Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 17

There’s this term called ‘haki(覇気)’ that you might have heard before if you’re a One Piece fan. Normally I would translate it as like, force of will or presence something like that, but since this novel is pretty chuuni, it might even be used in attacks and stuff later, so I’m going to leave it transliterated as ‘haki’, the same way I might leave 闘気(fighting ki) as ‘touki’.

Chapter 17 – “Illusion magic, how fearsome!”

An invasion by the Demon King Army!

When I got the report from Pervert(Nielsen), I immediately headed to the site. I sent Timu and the others a message to come later. For now, I want to tell them this myself: “Timu isn’t at fault. I’m the one who forced her to leave.”

This time, it seems the one that’s come to complain to Timu is called Garm. He’s apparently also one of the people in the Six Demon Generals. I guess it might really be to complain about Timu turning them into the Five Demon Generals.

Anyway, my duty is to soften Garm’s attitude to make it easier for Timu to apologise when she comes later.

Alright, for my beloved sister, it’s time to make full use of my skills in the hospitalities industry!

I ran happily out of Beruga Town, and past the bottom of Mt. Mishinga.

Umm~ According to Pervert(Nielsen), it should be around here, but…

I looked around. There was nothing in sight but thick forest and small animals. There wasn’t any sign of anybody else.

They aren’t here, are they.

It’s Pervert(Nielsen), so I shouldn’t trust the information too much. After I searching around for a while,

“Guu… Gkue… Gwrr… Fshrrr!”

――Mn!? I can hear some kind of beast!

When I turned around, a man riding a huge beast had appeared. The beast had tough green scales and giant wings.

T-, This is…

“Are you the Evil God? I’m one of the Six Demon Generals, Garm; I’ll be taking your life!”

“…”

“Mn, where are you looking? ――Hmph, is my mount that unusual? This is demonic dragon Gyangu; I’ll have you taste an attack from a man who’s become one with his dragon.”

“It-”

“”It” you say?”

……
…………
………………

“IT’S A DRAGONNNNNNNNNNNN!”

I bolted back along the path that I came from.

Eh? Eh? What? Eh? Why is there a dragon there?

When I went to have a conversation with them… of all things, there was the thing that appeared in games or novels; a western dragon.

E-, Even though he came to complain, he brought a dragon along?

No matter how you think about it, isn’t that overdoing things! Did you plan on killing Timu!

W-, W-, What do I do? What do I do? I have to do something! If he brings that along, the town’ll get blown to pieces!

T-, The guard? Nonono, unless they borrow a a rocket launcher from the JSDF――Wai-, B-, Bizef-saaan, SAVE MEEEEEEE!

I rushed into the only guard station in town.

“Bizef-san! Bizef-san! Bizef-saaan!”

“Why if it isn’t Tilea-chan. You don’t look too good. What’s wrong?”

“S-, Something outrageous has happened. I-, it’s a disaster. It’s a disaster!”

“Disaster?”

“Y-, Yes. S-, Somebody’s using a dragon to attack. They’re going to attack the town!”

“A dragon? …Pfft, HAHAHAHAHA!”

“Bizef-san, this isn’t a laughing matter. You have to hurry and tell everybody to evacuate!”

“Tilea-chan, calm down. Relax. There isn’t anybody in the modern age that can use a dragon.”

“Eh? Really?”

“Really. Even using a normal magic beast requires quite a lot of training. So using a divine beast like a dragon would need an outrageous amount of mana.”

“I-, I see.”

“To begin with, there aren’t any dragons in the world anymore.”

“Eh!? There aren’t any dragons in the world?”

“They apparently used to exist in ancient times, but they went extinct. In this age there are only small winged-drakes, or the dragonoids who inherited the blood of dragons.”

“Eh? Eh? B-, But I really did see a dragon… Eh?”

“It was probably a type of illusion magic.”

“Illusion magic?”

“Yeah, you can use illusion magic to confuse people. It’s likely that they used illusion magic on you to make you see a dog or cat as a dragon.”

“Really!?”

“Probably. When it comes to illusion magic, if there isn’t a gap in ability between the caster and the target, it won’t work. You aren’t even an adventurer; I think a normal girl like you would be the ideal target.”

Well certainly my magic resistance is probably zero. If they used illusion magic, it’d work on me in one go.

Shitt! Tricking me like this!

“Muuu, then I was completely fooled wasn’t I.”

“Huhu, seems so. But using illusion magic for a prank really is going too far. I’ll give them a warning. Tilea-chan, could you lead me to the person who cast it on you?”

“Understood.”

I ended up leading Bizef-san to the place from earlier.

Phew~ So thats how it was…

As expected of Bizer-san. He was a C-rank adventurer wasn’t he. It was precise advice. If it was just me, I would’ve been panicking.

But still, Garm-san is nasty, isn’t he. Even though he just came to voice his complaints, he ended up pulling a prank like that. He’s probably thinking “PUNKED!” right about now. After all, I gave such a splendid reaction, didn’t I. This is so frustrating!

Ah~ Hang on. The situation I’m in is like somebody being pranked on those prank shows, and then actually going and calling the police, huh. It’s not really being an adult about it, or rather, it’s not being able to read the atmosphere. If I bring Bizef-san there, I might be able to shock Garm-san back in return, but it wouldn’t be a joke.

“Umm~ Bizef-san, please don’t take this too seriously, okay? It was a nasty prank, but he is one of Timu’s playmates, so please don’t arrest him or anything.”

“I know. I’m just going to give him a warning. I’m not going to arrest him. But you know, using magic in this way is a problem. As somebody else who can use magic, I need to teach him manners, you know?”

“I understand.”

Mn, just a warning should be fine. Or rather, if he doesn’t do at least that much, I won’t be able to feel better about being tricked.

And so, after a few hours of guiding Bizef-san, I finally returned to the base of Mt. Mishinga.

Um~mm, it should be around here. Garm-san, are you still here?

As I was looking around,

“Kuu… Gkue… Gwau… Fshrrr!”

I heard the sound of a beast. It was the same as the growl from earlier. Could it be!

I turned around and… there it was!

Standing behind me was Garm-san riding on his dragon again, glaring my way.

But still, that overwhelming size and presence – I thought this before as well, but it really does seem like a dragon no matter how you look at it. Is this really just a simple chihuahua…?

“B-, Bizef-san, it’s your turn. Please give him a good warning!”

I moved my hand to poke Bizef-san in the shoulder.

-poke, poke, poke-

Huh? I’m not hitting anything?

I turned my head here and there――where did he go?

I looked left and right, but he wasn’t there.

Then, let’s try looking down next… There he was!

Lying on the ground. Mn…

――Wait, DON’T GO FAINTINGGGGG!

There lay a loser(Bizef-san), eyes rolled back, sprawled across the ground.

Eh? Why are you unconscious? Aren’t you a C-rank adventurer. In the past, didn’t you brag about beating some famous monster? Was that a lie? Was your C-rank just for show? Or could it be that you had illusion magic cast on you?

IF YOU’RE A FORMER ADVENTURER THEN DON’T GET SCARED FROM JUST AN ILLUSIONNN!

Huuu, huuu… I never imagined that he was such a loser. All this time I’ve been listening to this losers'(Bizef’s) adventurer stories with glittering eyes, but now I want him to give me back my excitment.

“Unconscious from my pressure, huh, you frail human.”

Okay. Chuunibyou over there, don’t spout off pretentious lines. Are you trying to say you used your haki or something?

Honestly, I can’t rely on this loser(Bizef) anymore. I need to warn him myself. In place of Loser(Bizef), I confronted Garm.

“Evil God. Earlier you showed nothing but the speed of your legs. Someone like you is comparable to Zorg-sama? It seems that Viceroy’s eyes have been clouded too. I’ve lost interest. Demonic Dragon Gyangu, devour her!”

At Garm’s instruction, the dragon came and attacked me. It opened its large mouth, and pointed its sharp fangs at me. The jagged teeth looked painful. They looked like they could easily bite off something as frail as a human’s arm.

Uheh! Even if I know the trick behind it, it’s still scary!

And then that dragon bit into me. With a bite, those sharp teeth stabbed into my shoulder.

Kuah! I-, It bit me. I-, I’M DEADDD!

――Wai-, it doesn’t hurt!?

Huu, so it really is illusion magic? I won’t be deceived by looks anymore. Visually, it seems like a dragon is biting into me, swinging its tail at me, and charging at me. But my pain receptors are telling me that a “chihuahua” or some other small animal is frolicking with me.

Huhu, how strange. Even though my eyes are telling me it’s like a real Jurassic Park, there’s no damage. And well, of course, since in reality it’s just a playful chihuahua.

In that case…

“Hey, hey, doggie. Good boy, good boy♪”

I decided to think of the attacking dragon as a small animal. I decided to give patting the chihuahua(dragon)’s head and stomach a try.
But the chihuahua(dragon) just kept biting and butting into me, and wouldn’t really come to like me.

Hmm~ It’s no good. For somebody who’s never had pets before like me, the hurdle is a bit high.

“W-, What!? For Gyangu’s attacks to be ineffective…”

“Yeah. I’m having trouble getting him to like me.”

“Ku-! Speaking nonsense. In that case, take my Secret Technique, Jet Star![Super Demonic Demon Dragon Strike!]”

――Mn, what?

The playful chihuahua(dragon) retreated backwards for a moment.

And then…

TOBIEEE!

Of all things, the chihuahua(dragon) charged at me with its mouth wide open from three different directions, like it had suddenly spawned clones. Is this that dog anime’s Battouga or something!

Although it was a chihuahua, as you’d expect it was scary. I immediately backpedalled.

“Idiot! You won’t escape from my Secret Technique! After her, Gyangu!”

Oohh, just as I thought I had escaped, it unnaturally changed directions and came after me. A homing-type, huh. The pursuing chihuahua(dragon)’s big mouth came down on my arm.

O-, OWW-, OWWWWWW!

I was bitten defencelessly.

“I-, Impossible… Taking on my Secret Technique uninjured…”

Nono, I’m not uninjured. My hand is hurt, you know.

Blood is dripping from it. Apparently my hand was bitten by the chihuahua(dragon). My hand is bleeding. Because of the illusion magic, it was really intense, but basically Garm sicced his dog on me.

Ahhh, shit. Injuring a cook’s hand like this! It isn’t that serious an injury, but as you’d expect, injuring a chef’s hand would make them angry.

I’m mad now. I’m mad. Fucking doing something like this because I felt bad and acted modestly!

First of all is this chihuahua(dragon). Although it was its owner’s orders, it’s a problem that it has a habit of casually attacking people. I’m not going to be soft on it just because it’s a puppy.

“Doggie, you can’t bite people you know! SIT!”

I grabbed the chihuahua(dragon) by the neck, and forced it to the floor. The chihuahua(dragon)let out a cry of anguish, and collapsed. A roar like the sky collapsing resounded through the area.

What an incredible vibration. So the illusion magic affected my hearing too.

Anyway, I succeeded in holding down the chihuahua(dragon). But the chihuahua(dragon) struggled in a rage to escape my hands. It isn’t really doing as it’s told.

How should I train it… I know! If I remember correctly, I’ve heard that dogs have a hierarchal system, and won’t listen to anybody except those above it in the hierarchy. In other words, I need to show that I’m stronger than the owner that sicced it on me.

Hmm. It’s somebody else’s pet, but he’s a bad owner that set his pets on other people, so it’s fine, right? I glared at the chihuahua(dragon). And then, threatening the chihuahua(dragon), I suddenly put power into the arm that was grabbing it.

“Doggie, cut it out already. I’ll seriously get angry, you know!”

I tightly applied pressure to the chihuahua(dragon)’s creaking neck. The sounds made it seem like the bones in its neck were about to break.

“Kyuuu! Kyuuu!”

Whether it was because my threats worked, or whether it was because it thought its neck was going to break, the chihuahua(dragon) lay belly up and showed its submission to me.

Haha, did I go too far?

I accidentally committed a little animal abuse. I’m reflecting on it.

“It-, It can’t be. My mount… my legendary demonic dragon…”

Yes, yes. A legendary demonic dragon, huh? It was a pretty cute puppy. Anyway, the dragon seems to think that I’m above its owner. I’d better give Garm his punishment now.

Punishment, punishment… What should I do…? I know!

Although it’s a puppy, if you sic it on people, they’ll get injured. Garm doesn’t understand this. That’s why he so casually played a prank like that.

Alright, I’ll have Garm taste the same thing. People really don’t reflect unless they feel some pain themselves.

“Doggie, this is an order. Play with your owner.”

“W-, What! Y-, YOUUUUUU!”

At my command, Doggie went and vigorously played with its owner. Opening its big mouth and biting Garm, or using its claws to scratch him up.

“S-, Stop it. Gyangu, i-, it’s me, Garm. W-, Wai――GUEH-!”

Uu~ Thanks to the illusion magic, it looks more like a dragon attacking Garm, rather than a puppy frolicking with him. This is really terrible to look at.

While I was suffering from the scene before me,

“Oneesama!”

I heard Timu calling for me.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Timu and the others were coming later, weren’t they. But this isn’t really a situation where Timu should apologise anymore.

“Ah-, Timu. I’m a little busy at the moment and――wha-, GEH! C-, Could it be that that’s Gargan?”

“Yes, Oneesama.”

When I turned around, I found that to my surprise, although it was a different species than Garm’s pet, Timu had brought yet another splendid dragon. It seems that I really did get hexed by an illusion magic that makes me see cats and dogs as dragons.

Illusion magic, how fearsome!

Aahh, what a disaster… Even Timu’s Gargan looks like a dragon now. This really is a bit too surreal. This magic isn’t going to be permanent, right? I don’t think I’ll be able to handle the stress if things stay like this forever.

“Oneesama, things have taken an amusing turn, haven’t they.”

“Mn――a bunch of stuff happened, so I had Garm’s pet frolic with him. But still, I see that you’ve brought Gargan, Timu.”

“Yes. Garm is a demonic dragon user, so I thought that my own mount would be necessary.”

Mn? I see!

It seems that Garm is quite the pet lover. He brought his chihuahua along, after all. Did Timu think to help their friendship by bringing her own pet? If pets get along, then their owners would get closer too, after all.

“Well done, Timu. You really gave this some thought, didn’t you.”

“I am honored to receive your praise. Well then, would it be all right if I had Gargan play as well?”

Hmmmm, would it?

I’m getting the feeling that just his own pet is too much for him but…

No, I’m sure it’s a pointless worry. Garm loves pets after all, so I’m sure even if it’s two puppies now, he’ll be able to handle them.

“Mn, that’s fine.”

“Thank you for your permission. Go, Gargan. Bite off his head!”

Oi, oi, Timu. Even if it’s only a puppy, if you give it an order like that, Garm’s going to die, you know.

But well, Timu is a chuunibyou. It can’t be helped that “go play” ends up as a line like that. But still, what an incredible sight. It’s almost like Garm is being tormented by two dragons.

“UOOOOH, GAH, GAGAH!”

“GYAN, GYAGAAAAAAAN!”

“Haa, haa, mu!? Even Gargan is here. S-, Shit, haa, haa, GYAAAAHHH!”

………………

A roar rang through our surroundings. A cloud of dust flew into the air. And amongst it all, Garm’s occasional screams.

――what a tragedy!

A-, Are they really dragons? This scene has kind of become so realistic that I’m finding it hard to believe that it’s just an illusion anymore.

I’d better ask somebody else.

“T-, Ti~mu. H-, How does that look to you?”

I pointed my finger at the scene of the two dragons tormenting him without restraint.

“Huhu, Oneesama. Damned Gargan. It seems he’s really taken a liking to him. He’s playing so happily after all.”

Mu, if Timu says so, then it must be true. The members of Timu’s praetorian guard that were standing around were grinning at the scene, after all. So they really were just seeing two chihuahuas frolicking about. It’s probably just my senses that are weird.

I’m sure that in reality, the scene is like,

『Woof, woof. Master, woof.』

『Hey, cut it out. It tickles, Patrasche!』

『Me too, woof.』

『Hey, you’re being too cheeky, Lassie.』

or something like that. But because I had illusion magic cast on me, I ended up seeing something I really didn’t want to. I mean, it really looks like Garm being tormented by two dragons after all.

A-, Anyway, I think I’ll go home early today. I’ll go home, and after having a good sleep, the illusion magic will wear off too, right?

“Anyway, I’ll be going home, okay? Timu, I’ll leave the rest to you.”

“Understood. Please leave the rest to me.”

Yep, yep. There’s no animal lover who’s bad at heart. It seems that things will work out amiably as well, this time.

“Is this that dog anime’s Battouga or something!”

Rather important rant about translation quality and integrity

This is important. It is long, but please, please read it all.

So, I know this is rich coming from a shithead like me who rarely actually translates anything, but there’s no rule saying that you have to be perfect to criticise other people! (lol!) Basically, not one, or two, but a great number of so-called translators don’t understand BASIC Japanese grammar.

To illustrate just how basic it is, it’s basically the same as not understanding the difference between,

“I ate the cat.”

“I was eaten by the cat.”

It’s that bad. And they’re translating without knowing something so basic. Learning a language is like learning anything else – it’s diminishing marginal returns to effort.

That means that 30 minutes of learning for a complete beginner might improve the translation by 500%. 30 minutes of learning for these guys would be the same as a year or two of improvement for me. But they don’t do it. Why? Don’t they just lack integrity?

For people who don’t understand how Japanese verbs work, basically you have a ‘stem’ that’s like a key word, and the shit tacked on the end determines the tense, whether it’s passive or otherwise, and sometimes whether it’s transitive or intransitive.

Basically it fucking determines everything. If you don’t understand this, it’s the same as somebody throwing a bunch of key words at you, and you making up your own sentences with it. Does this sound familiar to you? It should; this is exactly what machine translators do.

There’s a certain blog that had been translating things decently up until now. Then a ‘translator’ joined the team and created an atrocious translation. In three lines of dialogue, it got everything 100% wrong. I’m not going to name them, because it’s nasty. I’m not going to contact them and tell them off because that’s being high-handed and arrogant. But you guys are the readers; if anybody can justify themselves for complaining about translation fraud, it’s you guys. I know you’re afraid of upsetting the translator, but surely there’s a gentle and supportive way of pointing out easy ways they could improve. There are a LOT of readers out there, and surely somebody is socially competent enough to do so.

And it’s not like nobody knew that the translations were wrong. On reddit, somebody illustrated how the translations were completely wrong. The project head even commented “I think this is correct”. And yet the guesslation is still up there.

Fucking, why?

Why are you even translating when you don’t even understand grammar that you’d learn in your 4th lesson of Japanese? It would take you 30 minutes to google a verb conjugation table, and it would improve your translations so much, but you don’t do it.

Instead, you spend god knows how long on completely guesslating this series. People all have their own circumstances, so I’m not here to complain about how some people are less dedicated to improvement than others. But something as basic as verb conjugation is literally 30 minutes of learning.

As far as I can tell, the project in question is completely free, so they aren’t even doing it for money. But in that case, I just can’t understand.

And like I mentioned earlier, it isn’t this one project. Plenty of people are ignoring grammar, and I don’t understand it. If you want to build a car, surely it would be more important to have an engine and wheels than having a frame.

I criticise quite a bit more than other translators, but it’s not because I’m angry or like having somebody to vilify. It makes me feel tired and dirty when I do so, but there’s something seriously wrong with our community when a retarded novice like me counts as one of the better translators. I like drama and starting shit up, but only when the people are nasty or mean. I don’t like criticising otherwise nice people like this.

To that project head, if you know who you are, please have a gentle talk with that translator of yours. Considering that your project’s quality just took a 100% drop in quality, this is arguably more your problem than theirs. You’re the manager after all.

Anyway, sorry for saying something unsightly again. I’ll try and get the next chapter of Tilea out tonight. Sorry. And yeah, I know that I’m being harsh and stuff this time, so justice knights, feel free to flame me.

Another girly novel translator

So this Tanuki commented 4 hours ago and told me about how they were translating a novel.

The um, author actually makes their own otome games. In particular, they seem to have made one called Magical Party about a normal 11th grader Japanese girl ending up in a world of swords and magic. It’s called Magical Party and can be found here.

…and that is not what I’m going to be talking about today.

Actually, what’s being translated is the web novel side story of that otome game, about one of the students from that world. She’s (allegedly) a normal girl, who somehow ended up involved with a hot guy. I haven’t actually read it yet, since I’ve been a bit preoccupied, so I can’t really say if she’s actually a normal girl, or a Mamiko-Normal girl, but the blurb does mention that it’s a really sweet story (meaning that it’s actually sickly sweet), so if you’re into sappy shoujo stuff, you might want to try out the translation.

About

Don’t forget to thank the Tanuki.

「千代ちゃん」49416075_p0

I read the raws of a cute girly novel, and it’s being translated

The reason I only released 1 chapter of anything yesterday is because K-Dawhg introduced the story to me, and I went and read the raws in one go.

Sorry guys.

But it was surprisingly good. Cute. And better than the synopsis might suggest. I guess the sort of stuff you might like if you enjoyed Kimi ni Todoke and other stuff with lots of tears of joy and stuff. Probably not the stuff you’d be looking for if you were looking for a cool non-dumb protagonist.

Ah, and apparently K-Dawhg joined MoonBunnyCafe as part of Alys’ harem, and we’re all talking on Skype now. That place is getting really big.

Book of God – 05

Yami, Bazooka, thanks for all the help in AK! You guys are the best!

Chapter 5 – The Meeting Unfolds

“『Authorities』 are things that we Administrators govern… there are 『Authorities』 for all things, phenomena and concepts. And to us, the 『Authorities』 are our 『power』, 『responsibility』 and 『duty』.”

“Each Administrator has a main 『Authority』 with a bunch of 『Sub-Authorities』, as well as 『Free-Authorities』 that don’t belong to any, so that makes up all three types.”

The gods of Light and Dark explained to me about the 『Authorities』 that were their main reason for visiting me. I wanted to take down notes, but it wasn’t the right atmosphere for that, so I decided to try my best to memorise it.

“An Administrator’s main 『Authority』 can’t be changed ’cause of their attribute. I’m 『Dark』, that overly serious woman over there is 『Light』, and as for you… Seriously? 『Fear』? That’s a pretty nasty one you’ve chosen, ey?”

I didn’t choose it. I didn’t choose it I say.
I can assent to their 『Main Authorities』 being 『Light』 and 『Dark』, but I can’t accept that mine is 『Fear』.

“In exchange for very few being able to choose a emotion-type 『Authority』, they can gain faith through that emotion, you see. It seems that you are only absorbing the fear directed at yourself, though.”

It felt like something from people my followers was flowing into me, but that was the reason? Just exactly how feared am I?
…Mn? There was something concerning in her words just now though.

“Can I absorb fear directed at things besides me too?”

“Obviously. 『Authorities』 are the right to manage the world, yanno. As long as you use their function properly, no matter who it’s directed at, you’ll be able to use it as faith. But well, emotions directed at yourself don’t need any conscious work on your half, so I guess it’s that much more efficient, ey?”

I didn’t know. I didn’t know. I decided not to use my power as an Administrator because I had no idea what might’ve happened, but is that why? As long as it’s linked to ‘gathering faith'[filling my stomach] this is pretty important, so I’ll have a look at it later.

“Anyway, the remaining ones are 『Sub-Authorities』 and 『Free-Authorities』, but they’re decided among fellow Administrators. Mains and subs become the Administrator’s specialty, yanno?”

“A specialised 『Authority』 cannot be used by other Administrators. On the other hand, free 『Authorities』 can be used by all Administrators.”

“Then couldn’t you just leave them all free?”

“If that was all it’d be aight, but you can’t gather faith from free 『Authorities』. And if you can’t distinguish whose responsibility is whose, the response to problems gets slow, and it’s riddled with risk.”

I see. That’s why they’re 『power』, 『responsibility』 and 『duty』, huh?
So in exchange for gaining 『power』, you gain as much responsibility in exchange.

“Having said that, if all 『Authorities』 are specialised, then there would be none remaining for other Administrators to use. As a result, those that have a high degree of risk are used as 『Sub-Authorities』, while the rest are left as free.”

“Anyway, here comes the main topic; up ’til now, all the 『Sub-Authorities』 have been split between me and her, but suddenly this new Administrator pops up. So we need to choose how to divide the 『Sub-Authorities』 again.”

I understand why they came as a pair now. It was to hold an important meeting about how the world would be from now on.

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

With the general explanation finished, after brewing some more tea, the meeting resumed. Also, since I would feel bad about calling Tena to such a dangerous place, I steeped the tea myself. The two were making doubtful expressions, but I wouldn’t accept any complaints.

“Well then, guess we’ll quickly get to it. First of all, I’m taking 『Demon Race』. No discussions.”

“I too will not concede 『Human Race』.”

T-, The way this is going is… The so-called ‘taking-all-the-good parts-to-yourself-and-leaving-the-newcomer-with-the-remains-newcomer-bullying-scene’!?

Are they going to say stuff like
“『Goblins』 or 『Vulgarness』 would fit ‘a person of low birth'[an embarrassment to the divines] like you.” or “You ain’t thinking that an accident like you could be on equal terms with us, right?” to me?
They carefully explained various things to me so I let my guard down, but thinking about it, there’s no way that a human that messed up their territory by becoming a divine──although I didn’t wish for it──would be accepted by them.

But I can’t just take things sitting down either.
If I lose this power struggle, then it’ll also mean that this country will be looked down on by its neighbours. It’ll threaten the peaceful lives of Tena and the others too. I don’t want to recklessly abuse my influence, but I need a minimum amount of power as a foothold.

I need to be stubborn here.

“I won’t accept──”

“Leaving the rest to you.”

“I shall leave the rest up to you.”

T-, These guys… They’re planning on pushing all the work onto me?
Right. Even if I take Leonora’s story with a grain of salt, they were a pair that didn’t care about the details as long as they were loved by their respective races. At the time, the conversation was about the Light God, but from what I can see it applies to the Dark God as well.
The Dark God called her overly serious, but just what part of this is overly serious?
Up until now, they’d be reluctantly working in order to protect their races, but now that there was somebody they could push all the work onto, they were planning to only take responsibility for the things they cared about, and were plotting to push everything else onto me.

This isn’t a joke.
I want the bare minimum power to prevent myself from being invaded, but I don’t want everything pushed onto me. What I want is to relax in peace; there’s no point if my schedule is so busy I’ll die.

I need to be stubborn here.

“I won’t accept this.”

“Ah?”

“Ah?”

I’m being glared at. As I thought, the Light God is scarier. But I can’t give up here.

“If you’re pushing all the other 『Authorities』 onto me, then I can also destroy the humans or the demons with 『Epidemic』. Are you fine with that?”

“─────!”

“─────!”

The moment I said that, the two gods stood straight up. I was being glared at just like before, but the pressure now was on another level.

“You have sure some guts, eh.”

The Dark God was gathering mana in his hands, but the Light God waved him to stop, and spoke to me.

“Did you say, that you would destroy the Human Race?”

“The fact that I’ll be able to is the problem. If one god has all the 『Authorities』, they’ll be unstoppable.”

“I see. So you wanted to say that there is a need for the three of us to be in balance. You have a point. However──”

The Light God stopped her sentence midway, before pulling out a massive sword as tall as she was, and slamming it into the table. A thunderous boom rang out through the room, and the round table was split in half.

“──the next time you speak nonsense like that again, I will destroy you.”

Scary… Yes, I will definitely keep that in mind.
I raised my arms face-height in surrender, before stating my defence.

“It was just an example; I have no intention of doing it.”

“I sincerely hope not.”

It seems that I somehow got her to sheathe her sword.
Of course, I never had any intentions of destroying the humans or the demons to begin with, and it was because there was that risk that I wanted to give an example of why we needed balance, but from now on I’m going to be careful not to say anything stupid about messing with the humans in front of her.

I can sort of understand now why the Dark God calls her “overly serious”. But if she’s going to be serious, then I would’ve preferred her putting that into a different outlet.

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

After repairing the bisected table──the one who broke it was the Light God, so why was I…?──we resumed the meeting.
However, the discussion dragged on and we didn’t make progress. Although I prevented everything being pushed onto me, both the Light God and Dark God were trying their best to push things onto somebody else. In the end, it became something like “Even if one of us does something destructive, the other two can just cooperate and stop them.” and we just kept pushing things onto each other.
If I relaxed I would’ve just gotten things pushed onto me instead, so I also objected, but because of that, we eventually fell into a completely unproductive cycle of pushing things onto each other.
The old and new, male god and goddess, positive attributes and negative attributes; a frenzied 2 vs 1 battle that continually changed positions continued on, and along the way we lost track of who was objecting to what anymore.
Because we didn’t need to eat or sleep, it just meant that the argument continued endlessly.

“Hahh… Hahh…”

“Huu… We are not making progress, are we?”

“Seriously, you two are freaking stubborn.”

Even though we didn’t even need to breathe, we glared at each other breathless.
I wanted to tell him that he was just as stubborn as we were, but as the Light God said, we weren’t making any progress.

“Alright. I’ve got an idea that’ll definitely decide things.”

“Hmm, please do say.”

“Or rather, if you had something like that then say it to begin with.”

Dark God. Shut up.
I only just thought of it, so it couldn’t be helped.

“We’ll have a match, and the winner gets to decide on how to divide things. However, with the balance between the three of us kept in mind.”

“Ohh? Ain’t that interesting.”

“I see. Even if we continue the conversation, there does not seem to be an end in sight, so I think that idea is fine too. However, just what kind of match will it be?”

Naturally, I have no plans on simply battling it out. It won’t be a game or anything either. It’s clear that I’d completely lose in both.

“The match will be… a dungeon.”

Precepts for having an efficient meeting; as learned by Anri-san.

1. Decide on the length of the meeting beforehand
“An endless meeting is dangerous.”

2. Make sure to have somebody in charge of the direction of the meeting.
“Without one, everything gets out of control.”

3. Make sure to take minutes
“If everything is recorded, you’ll be self-conscious and pay more attention to what you say… probably.”

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 16

Chapter 16 – Hidler Appears

This was the castle of the Demon King Army; a citadel in a small country. Although even if it was called a ‘country’, it was merely the size of a small city, and was an insular nation isolated from its neighbours. A few weeks earlier, the Demon King Army had invaded here, and it became the headquarters of the Demon King Army.

Hidler sat down heavily upon the throne in this castle, and overlooked the surroundings with a glare. Lined up before him were the demons who had survived the life-and-death struggle of the earlier great battle.

“Hidler-sama, I cannot agree with your decision to suspend the human clean-up!”

“I feel the same. We of the Demon King Army have waited earlier for this very moment, you know!”

“Indeed. Why have we been recalled from the Royal Capital Extermination? My subordinates are now desperately eager to drink the blood of humans and devour their flesh.”

The demons whose duty was to exterminate the humans were now kicking up a fuss. The battle instincts of the demon race was tremendous. It seems that there was quite a lot of resentment from being forced to hold back.

“You lot, this is disrespect to Viceroy Hidler!”

The one who roared at the noisy demons was the Chief of the Demon King Army Intelligence Division, Yose. Although he was a small man, he was the brains of the Demon King Army, and the power of his intelligence analysis was critical to the army.

“It’s fine, Yose.”

“H-, However…”

“It is fine.”

“Yessir!”

Hidler stood up from the throne, and gave a sweeping glare over the clamouring demons. The pressure was extraordinary, and the people around all curled themselves up to a degree incomparable to when they had received Yose’s roar.

“You are all aware of Camilla’s betrayal, are you not. Settling that issue takes precedence over the humans.”

“Ehh! Camilla-chan betrayed the Demon King Army? Betraying Zolg-sama? What an idiot. Let’s kill her♪”

The one who made a slitting motion at her neck was the recently awakened demon, Luxembourg. She was one of the Six Demon Generals, and a demonic beastman. She had an appearance like a cat, had four flexible limbs, and had a red eye like burning fire, and a blue eye like ice. Unlike her lovely appearance, she was the host to a brutal and wicked personality.

“To think that Camilla-dono, who had both wisdom and talent, as well as deep loyalty would…”

The one who was lost for words was the recently awakened demon, Poe. In pure strength, Poe was foremost amongst the Six Demon Generals. His entire body was clad with tough scales, of a hardness that dragons couldn’t compare to. He had the nature of a military man, but was a demonic dragonoid who would become ferocious in battle.

“No matter what, betrayal is unforgivable! Why are you leaving a traitor as is, Viceroy!”

With brutal emotions clear in his eyes, the Demon General Garm howled. He was a demon that controlled a vicious dragon, and fought together with it.

“Your questions are all very natural ones. Were it only Camilla, I would have handed down punishment myself. The problem is the one that Camilla has sworn new allegiance to, the Evil God.”

“Viceroy, what type of being is this Evil God?”

“Evil God Dark Matter. Their strength may rival Demon King Zorg-sama.”

“I-, It can’t be! That kind of being…”

A commotion spread through the demons. That was natural. Zorg-sama held so tremendous a power that no other could compare. Hidler himself had believed that nobody could be powerful enough to rival him.

But that day, that Evil God had withstood a knifehand from Camilla, and easily defeated Iron Wall Nielsen.

What where they?

Hidler had secretly used mana detection on the Evil God. He had expected mana that was at the very least above the Six Demon Generals, roughly on par with himself but…

That prediction of his weakly crumbled away. Their mana seemed bottomless. Hidler himself couldn’t stop his cold sweat. When it came to that Evil God, even if the whole army attacked at once, it would be meaningless; they would probably just be killed. Now convinced of this, he decided to withdraw while the Evil God was preoccupied with Camilla.

Indeed. Although he felt bad, he decided to use Camilla as a sacrifice. For the sake of Zorg-sama’s revival, he couldn’t allow the Demon King Army to be annihilated. He believed that Camilla’s betrayal was also because she was abandoned by the Demon King Army.

However, when Hidler was retreating, he ordered Yose to stay there and solely gather intelligence. Because of that, he knew about how the intruder girl was the Evil God, and about Camilla’s defeat.

“It is unbelievable, but it is the truth. Because of that, I have decided that we will avoid fighting both the human forces and the Evil God Army at once, and prioritise intelligence collection first.”

“So that’s how it was. And so, what intelligence on the Evil God were we able to obtain?”

“Yose, explain the state of the scouting unit.”

“W-, Well――the Evil God Army was on guard, and our scouting unit was annihilated.”

Yose was deeply ashamed as large amounts of sweat ran down his forehead. The scouting unit had followed Yose’s command. Being annihilated was an unbelievable disgrace. It was natural that even the calm-headed Yose was panicked.

“Annihilated! You, hasn’t your skill gotten dull after reawakening?”

“Enough, Luxembourg. So Yose, what happened?”

Demon General Poe had stopped the angered Luxembourg and continued the conversation. Yose, whose commands he had followed fanatically in the last Great War, had suffered a failure. It meant that the Evil God Army was just that formidable.

“Y-, Yes. The final report from the unit stated that they were observing the Evil God stronghold, and had been encircling it, but they were discovered by their household guard, led by Nielsen, and were completely destroyed.”

“Iron Wall Nielsen, huh. How cunning. Viceroy, we aren’t just going to sit quietly after this, right? I can’t stand it!”

Demon General Garm yelled angrily with a frenzied look. Garm’s disposition was intense. It seems that hearing that his own forces were defeated made him unable to stand it.

“Garm! I forbid you to attack. Making a move now would only reduce our forces.”

“But is it fine being looked down on by the enemy like this!?”

“Garm-sama, it is as the Viceroy says. Kira-sama also shook off Viceroy Hidler’s restraints, and meaninglessly lost his life.”

“That Kira died?”

“Yes. Kira-sama ignored the Viceroy’s warnings, completely fell for the Nielsen Unit’s provocations, and tragically lost his life.”

“Hah! Looks like re-awakening did nothing to help his simple-mindedness huh. So then his Kira Unit was annihilated as well.”

“It is as you say. After losing Kira-sama, the members of the unit fell into a panic, and without acting together as an organisation, they were individually crushed by the Nielsen Unit.”

“And because of that you’re telling us to gather intelligence!? I can’t agree. And that Evil God? There’s no way they have power that compares to Zorg-sama. Viceroy, sorry but I’ll be doing as I please.”

Garm opened the door and left. Shining bloodlust was being released from but, and it was likely that he would now head on to attack the Evil God Army.

“Wait! This is the Viceroy’s order, you know!”

“That’s enough. If saying it won’t get through to him, then he probably won’t understand unless he feels it himself.”

“Understood. Then, what is the strategy for our next move?”

“Yose, you will continue to gather intelligence. This time, choose the best to bring with you.”

“Yessir.”

“Then what about us?”

“Luxembourg, you, Poe and the others are to come with me. There is something we must do.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“We will unseal the Demonic Evil Three.”

“Wha-!? V-, Viceroy, are you sane!? They’re so lawless that Zorg-sama sealed them himself, you know!”

Yose’s expression changed, and he advised Hidler. As the Chief of the Intelligence Division, and the strategist of the Demon King Army, it was something that he ought to oppose.

“This one is also opposed. Although we all belong to the Demon King Army, their way of thinking is completely different to ours!”

Demon General Poe also vehemently objected. Poe who always took care of his surroundings and would absolutely obey an order from above was now voicing his objections. You could infer from this just how lawless the Demonic Evil Three were.

“I am aware. I also find their disrespect towards Zolg-sama repulsive. However, their combat strength is on another level. There is nobody who can oppose the Evil God but them.”

“…If you go to say that much, then I understand. We will also help to undo the seal.”

The Demonic Evil Three; their battle strength was immeasurable. Without them knowing, the siege of the Evil God Army was on its way.

IMPORTANT: Regarding Light Novels and Web Novels

This is something applicable to all web novel readers, so please don’t dismiss this just because you don’t read Slime Datta Ken.

In case for some reason you haven’t already seen it on reddit, or the MoonbunnyCafe that is much more popular than my own blog, basically an annoying misunderstanding is causing my good friend Ran is snap. He usually has a very mild personality, but I suppose the repeated annoyance is grinding down on him.

I sincerely hope you guys can all see what the problem is here. Please have a look at his message here. I think it’s highly relevant.

Anyway, as for my opinion, please don’t mix up light novels and web novels. Web novels are great fun, and they have the benefit of not being influenced by money-grubbing editors, but they can also be a huge steaming pile of shit. Sometimes rather creative shit that gets refined into uh… idunno, a paperweight of some sort? But still a pile of shit.

Please support people who translate the light novels. The pretty pictures that you love so much are from the light novels, and the light novels are generally just better overall. If somebody is translating the light novel because they’re interested in bringing it to the English-speaking world, please don’t say insensitive things about how XX is translating the “same thing”.

It’s really not. And this is especially the case for Slime Datta Ken light novels. The light novels balance out the time each character has in the spotlight, and brings a lot more Shizu-san.

The Bathroom Goddess – Chapter 6

Cough.

While having a light coughing fit, she opened the door to the now unused room.

It had already been a month since its owner had disappeared, but the inside was kept the same as the day he left.

The jacket hung on the chair, the leather armour and training sword leaning against the wall, the quill left lying atop the table, the worn shoes by the side of the bed. It was a waste to even clean the mud from the boots, so she left them as they were.

When she came here, it felt like she could meet him whenever she wanted.

“Utaseyu.” It felt like he would call her name like that, before gently embracing her.
It felt like he would tell her silly jokes to make her laugh.

Utaseyu approached the bed, and softly sat down.

“I’m too big, so I’m scared that I’ll crush you when I sleep.” he had once told her, so they slept in separate rooms.

Although she felt it a little lonely, Utaseyu agreed as well.

It wouldn’t have done to wake him up with her coughing in the middle of the night, so she was very grateful for the idea.

Utaseyu lay down atop the mattress, before pushing her face into the pillow.

She had placed a few bags of hahanero around so that she wouldn’t need to wash it, but his scent had long disappeared.

Finding it sad, Utaseyu let out a sigh.

How long had she been doing that?

Recalling the reason for her visit her, Utaseyu raised her sluggish body.

She stood by the window and tied the blinds up.

When she reached her arm out, she coughed again.

The reason it hurt less than usual was probably due to the rain that fell last night.

Small panes of glass were held in the wooden lattice frame of the window, which was an item specially ordered from the Capital. It’s clarity was high, and you could see the outside scenery without distortion.

He had ordered them from a workshop in the Capital for their future children. Even at the cost of putting off replacements for his worn boots and saddle.

She undid the lock and placed her hands against the window frame. And although she hadn’t even pushed, the window opened.

Utaseyu was lost for words.

Even though the outside greenery had been beyond the window until a moment ago, standing there right now was a woman she had never seen before.

She had honey-coloured skin, and glossy black hair that gleamed like like a croshinshu. Looking carefully, even her eyes were black.

Recalling a black-eyed demon from a picture book she read as a child, Utaseyu flinched.

But she immediately regained her senses, and smiled.

Ahh, so it’s time.

“I have been waiting for you, Angel.”

The angel stared with her mouth hanging.

“You were? For me?”

“Yes.”

It seems that the angel was surprised. “Well this is new.” she muttered.

She supposed that not everybody was prepared when the angel came calling.

“I have been prepared for a long time now.”

“Eh? For what?”

“Eh?”

“Eh?”

Utaseyu stared at the angel’s black eyes for a while.

The angel was looking back at her too.

“Um, did you not come here to pick me up?”

“Pick you up? Me?”

Their conversation was mismatched.

Utaseyu stared hard at the angel.

She had black eyes and hair that Utaseyu had never seen before, and was wearing an outfit of mysterious material.

Utaseyu could see what was behind the angel; she had thought for sure that the smooth yellow wall was a wall of heavenly judgement that only those allowed into heaven through, but perhaps she was wrong.

The angel frowned.

“Sorry. Because the weather was good, I opened the window to ventilate, so it seems that I’m not the person you’ve been waiting for.”

“My, was that how it was.”

Utaseyu’s shoulders slumped.

The news of him splendidly completing his mission had reached her.

As promised, he rose to the position of Knight Captain for the knight brigade in the Capital.

That’s why she had thought that it would be fine to leave whenever, but…

Now that he had become a hero, he would probably be courted by plenty of the refined ladies in the Capital.

She had wanted to depart before she heard news of him picking somebody.

The tears that she thought had dried up began to fill the brim of her eyes.

And then a drop ran down her cheek.

“Eh? Um, w-, what’s wrong?”

The angel frowned in bewilderment.

“I apologise for showing an unsightly… Guh-!”

When Utaseyu tried to wipe her tears, the moment she covered her eyes, a dull pain shot through her chest, and the taste of blood filled her mouth.

She tightly gripped the clothing by her chest, and crouched.

She couldn’t breathe, and sweat gathered at her forehead.

This pain that felt like a mortar grinding her insides was something that she had experienced many times already.

“Hey, are you okay!?”

The angel leant forward from the gate to heaven.

She felt like she was choking. The sweat ran into her eyes and blurred her vision.

And then, something raw smelling was thrust before her eyes.

“Here, drink this! It smells bad enough to kill, but anyway, just drink it!”

With her consciousness starting to blur, she reached out her hand to the thing offered by the angel. But her hands were shaking, and she couldn’t grasp it.

“Sorry if it spills!”

Perhaps panicking, the angel forced something to Utaseyu’s mouth.

A thick, warm liquid spread through her mouth. It certainly did taste dreadful.

It spilled from the corners of her mouth to her throat, before dripping down to her clothing.
A smell like rotten tamanekki boiled with ninik assaulted her nose, and Utaseyu gagged.

“Ghho-, goho-, u-”

Feeling sick, she quickly covered her mouth.

After somehow managing to force it back down her throat, Utaseyu looked at the angel.

“Uu-, ggho-, geho-,”

The angel seemed nauseated too.

“What was that just now?”

After waiting for the angel’s nausea to settle, Utaseyu questioned the angel.

“Trangorn blood.”

The angel twisted a white knob, and water came flowing from a silver pipe. While washing her hands, the angel answered exhaustedly.

“…Trangorn.”

Utaseyu’s eyes widened.

“Why do you have trangorn blood?”

“Somebody gave it to me. A person in armour. Or more like, he forced it onto me, and this is what I had left…”

After the blood came off her hands, the angel smelt her palms before grimacing.

“The smell isn’t coming off… Hey, I think you should hurry and change too.”

“Um, the name of the person in armour was…?”

It couldn’t be. she thought. But Utaseyu’s heart was trembling from expectation.

“Name? Ah!!”

After tilting her head, the vigorously stood up.

“I didn’t ask for his name! Aaah, I’ve done it now. Even if I meet his wife now I won’t even know!”

No less vigorously than the angel, Utaseyu got up as well.

“Angel. Could you please wait a moment? I will return immediately!”

“As long as it isn’t for an hour and a half, sure?”

Looking at Utaseyu, startled, the angel sat down on a small yellow chair.

Utaseyu ran. She vigorously took the portrait in the guest room into her hands, and returned to the room where the angel was waiting.

Although it had been a few years since she had run this much, oddly her chest wasn’t hurting, and she wasn’t short of breath at all.

“Angel! This person! Was it this person that you met!?”

It was a picture of him in knight clothing―――a picture of the man who had been Utaseyu’s husband.

Blonde hair and blue eyes like a deep lake. His fearless and prudent countenance had won not only her heart, but the admiration and longing of all members of his knight brigade.

“Ah, right right. It was him.”

The angel gave a light nod.

Seeing the portrait, her black eyes widened.

“Hey, could it be that you’re his wife!?”

Utaseyu smiled. A little sadly.

“Ex-… though.”

The angel reached out her arms from the gate, and took both of Utaseyu’s hands.

“I wanted to meet you!”

“Eh?”

Utaseyu fell into confusion.

The angel said that she hadn’t come to meet her.

But the angel said that she had wanted to meet her.

“So you really have come to pick me up?”

“Umm, for a while now, what have you been saying about picking you up? …It couldn’t be that you thought I was here to bring a dead person to heaven, right?”

Utaseyu nodded. The church had taught that it was the angels’ job to detach the souls of the dead from this world.

“Am I a shinigami…?”

The angel gave a tired sigh.

After releasing Utaseyu’s hands from her fingers, the angel corrected her posture.

“Listen carefully, okay? I met the person in the portrait by chance, and heard a lot of things from him. He said he wanted to celebrate the slaying of the trangorn with you. He told me that living together with you was important to him. He really regrets it, you know. And umm, hey, about, you know…”

The angel’s eyes swam as she found something difficult to say.

“About how he went to a brothel?”

“Y-, Yeah. About how he was sleeping naked in a brothel. That might be how things ended up, but it seems that it wasn’t his intention. The messenger from the king made him drink until he was drunk, so I think he was completely unconscious, you know.”

“I knew that he had gone to a brothel, but I didn’t know that he slept there naked.”

The angel wordlessly held her forehead.

“But I know that nothing happened.”

The angel suddenly raised her face.

Utaseyu gave a small chuckle.

“After all, when he gets drunk, he becomes ‘useless’ after all.”

After saying so, Utaseyu’s cheeks flushed red. What a thing to have said to a pure angel.

Hahaha, laughed the angel as she scratched her cheek.

“I’m sorry. What a thing to talk to an angel about.”

“No, it’s fine, but umm, hmmm, was it unforgivable to you that he stepped into a brothel?”

Utaseyu shook her head.

“No, after all, a messenger from the King isn’t somebody that you can refuse a drink from. I knew that he had been tricked somehow.”

Then why…? the angel seemed to frown in confusion.

Utaseyu brought her hand to her chest.

“I don’t have long to live. Right after we got married, I had my first attack when he was out subjugating monsters. At the time, the doctor had told this to me. That I probably wouldn’t last another year. He would laugh and say that he wanted children, so I couldn’t tell him. And then the messenger from the Capital came and said that after subjugating the trangorn, he would be promoted to Captain of the Capital’s knights. But he refused. For my sake…”

Tears had begun to flow down her cheeks before she had noticed.
She felt pathetic for doing nothing but holding him back. She felt resentment towards the body that wouldn’t do as she wanted.

“He’s amazing, you know. No matter what the monster, he would defeat it in one blow. Did you see him wield his sword? Wasn’t it beautiful? He isn’t somebody who should spend his life hidden in the countryside like this. But despite that, he was going to refuse… Even though I was going to die soon.”

When Utaseyu happened to raise her head, she found that the angel was watching her with a sour expression.

“Angel?”

When Utaseyu called out to her, the angel suddenly returned to her senses.

Seeing Utaseyu with her head tilted in confusion, the angel gave Utaseyu a difficult smile.

“How do I say this. I think maybe you two should have talked to each other a little more.”

Is that so? But if I spoke to him, then he definitely would have stayed here.

When she thought about how much he would grieve after her death, Utaseyu just couldn’t bear it.

“Also, you’re probably fine now.”

“Eh?”

Utaseyu tilted her head in confusion. what was fine now?

“It was trangorn blood. A panacea. All it did was cure my hangover, but your husband said that it healed his burns. And from what I can see, it looks like your attacks have stopped too, but, how do you feel? Doesn’t your body feel lighter?”

“…Ah.”

Utaseyu looked down at her body in shock.

She wasn’t struggling to breathe at all. The dull pain that had always plagued her, as well as the feeling of being grinded was gone as well.

“Am I, healed?”

“Probably.”

“Am I, not going to die anymore?”

“No, the illness you had is healed, but I think everybody is going to die someday… For me as well; once I drank again, I got another hangover after all.

“Am I going to be able to bear his child?”

“Ummm, were you listening to me? But well, yeah, I guess you probably can.”

The feeling of new tears filling her eyes was a terribly comfortable one.

Utaseyu sobbed in happiness.

“Umm, well then, that’s how it is, so, I think it’d be best for you to hurry to the capital. I’m sure the armoured man is waiting for you.”

The angel put her hand against the door.

Utaseyu suddenly came back to her senses and took the angel’s hand.

“Please wait. Please, please let me thank you.”

The angel tilted her head, looking troubled.

“Um, I was beginning to think that it was about time that I don’t get anything left behind, but…”

“Please. Won’t you allow me to thank you somehow?”

With Utaseyu almost clinging to her arm, the angel muttered “like husband, like wife, huh”.

“Hmmmm, then…”

The angel looked around the room.

“I’ve been wondering for a while now, but what are those round cloths on top of your mattress?”

“The hahaneros?”

Utaseyu picked up a hahanero bag that she had created by sewing a number of hahaneros into a brightly coloured cloth.

“Yeah, yeah. what’s a hahanero? Why do you have them spread out on top of your bed?”

“They’re a very hot spice, but when you grind them up and put them inside a cloth like this, they become insect repellants that prevent moulding.”

“Incidentally, they can be used as beanbags for children as well, you see.” she said, and the angel’s eyes sparkled.

“They prevent moulding!? That! I want that.”

“Are you fine with something like this? Then please take them all.”

To think that there would be mould in heaven.

Utaseyu felt just a little dejected.

It was apparently quite a different place than in the church’s teachings.
