Reika-sama – 045

Everybody, please check the FAQ first before asking me questions.

Thank you for your consideration, guys!

Right after the excursion was the mid-semester exam.
I studied for my life.
I found out from Aoi-chan that the amount people study in prep-schools was even more than I imagined, so I gave it my all.
Whenever there was something I didn’t understand in the middle of the night, I would invade Oniisama’s room to ask.
Because I was studying so desperately, my family started to worry.
But I can’t let my ‘As expected of Reika-sama’ reputation go to waste after all this time, you know~!

After cramming as much as I could, I faced the mid-sems.
The moment that the two-day examinations finished, I could feel the vocabulary and formulas spilling out of my head.

I can’t study any more. I’m burnt out…

*imouto*

*imouto*

Today is the day that the exam results are posted.
While pretending that I didn’t care at all about rankings, I went to have a look with my friends.
My heart was pounding hard.
God, O God, please give me results for my efforts! Please have pity on me!
I desperately ran my eyes over the names.

…………
Ah-. It’s there.

18th – Kisshouin Reika

“Goodness! You’re amazing, Reika-sama!”

“18th place, Reika-sama!”

“Congratulations, Reika-sama!”

18th place.
The girls around me started clapping and congratulating me.

…I did it.
I really did it!
It was worth it! I studied so hard that I had nightmares about it, but it was worth it!

“Thank you.”

Despite myself, a relieved sigh escaped my lips.
But I definitely can’t let them know how much I studied.
I don’t want to be labelled a swot.
Hahhh. Looks like I’ve somehow managed to defend my ‘as expected of Reika-sama’ position. Thank goodness.
18th place out of 200 people. I tried pretty hard, didn’t I.
Aahh, really, thank goodness.

Everyone started squealing ‘Kyaaa!’ all of a sudden.

“Look! Kaburagi-sama and Enjou-sama!’

1st – Kaburagi Masaya
2nd – Enjou Shuusuke

“To be able to hold back the External Students and take 1st and 2nd place! As expected of them!”

“They really can do anything~!”

…Truly~!
The girls are in a trance again.
Unlike me, those two didn’t seem to have studied much either. Is this just the difference in talent?
Normally in the first middle school test, the top ranks are the External Students who passed through examination hell just to get in here.
Geez, as expected, I suppose.
In the end, a faker like me can’t compare.
I didn’t know any of the names 3rd place and below, so I guess most of them were Externals.

Ah-! I found a name I do know.
Hm~mm…

I looked here and there for the person I wanted, but couldn’t find anything in the sea of black hair.
Well, I guess there’s no way he has silver hair now. If he did, there’s no way he’d pass the interviews to get in here.

…Well, whatever.

*imouto*

*imouto*

Today I’m going to Fukioka-san’s house.
It might be the first time I’m going to a friend’s house to play. I’m so happy!
Fukioka-san is an Ojousama that goes to an ojousama school, so even when I asked Okaasama for permission, there wasn’t any problem.
I don’t think it’s good to discriminate friends based on class, but…
Since it was my first time visiting, Okaasama gave me a present to bring. It’s cookies from a western confectionary store that even needs an introductory from a regular customer to buy from. A standard present for the Kisshouin family.

After I greeted Fukioka-san’s mother, she led me to Fukioka-san’s room.

“Could you sit on that sofa please?”

“Yeees.”

Her room was girly and cute.
I did as asked, and sat down on the cute, flower-patterned sofa.

“It’s been a while, huh. Have you been well?”

“I have. Haven’t we already gone through this by email and phone?”

Fukioka-san started giggling.
Even though it’s only been a few months, now that Fukioka-san is a middle schooler, she somehow seems more mature than before~

“By the way, I heard from Takumi. Apparently you did very well on your exams. Congratulations.”

“Thanks. But it was just a fluke, you know?”

He even tells her about that?
Also, Fukioka-san showed me earlier through the window. Akizawa-kun’s house is diagonal from here. They really are neighbours.
Apparently he’s busy with Track and Field Club today.

“Fukioka-san, have you entered a club?”

“I’ve been considering maybe the Koto Club or the Wind Instrument Club, but I’m not sure.

The Koto instrument.

What about you?”

“In the end, I haven’t entered one either. There isn’t anything I really want to do, and I’m pretty busy after school.”

“Truee. I have violin practice too.”

The two of us nodded in agreement.

“But aren’t you a member of that whatever club at Zui’ran? I forget the name though.”

“Ahh, you mean the Pivoine.”

“Yes, that one. It’s a club that only chosen people can enter, right? People talk about it a lot at my school too.”

“Eh-, why?”

“Because it’s filled with people who are powerful, even amongst Zui’ran right? Yurinomiya is a girls school. We pay quite a lot of attention to good men from other schools.”

“Hm~mm.”

She mentioned the names of a few boys from grades above me, but they were all people I didn’t know. That’s pretty amazing…

“And as you’d expect, amongst them, the Two Tops in our cohort are by far the most popular.”

“Ahhh…”

I don’t even need to ask for their names.

“The young master of the Kaburagi family is called the Emperor right? There are people in my school that call him Emperor as well, you know.”

“EEHH-!? Could it be that the origin of that name is…”

“Yes. As I recall, Takumi told me that it started after the Athletics Meet.”

Uwahh, this is bad.
Even people from other schools knows about the Cavalry Emperor name. Does the guy himself know that?
I’m starting to sympathise a little…

“What’s wrong?”

“Ahhh, welll, I was just wondering whether it’s okay that his Emperor nickname comes from a children’s cavalry battle.”

“My. Is that so? Anything is allowed as long as they’re a hot guy, you know. Who cares where the nickname came from.”

“Is that how is it?”

“That’s how it is. The girls at my school are all happily saying stuff like ‘”The Emperor” is such a dreamy name’ you know.”

“Ohh?”

So that’s how it is?
Well, it’s true that back when I read Kimidol, I did say something like ‘Emperor, what a cool name!’ without really caring how it came about.

“By the way, about the way you’ve been addressing me.”

“Yes?”

“You don’t need to call me Fukioka-san. Just Sakurako will do, you know.”

After saying that, she turned away in a pout.

OOHHH! FUKIOKA-SAN IS GOING DERE ON ME!

“Ummmm, then, let’s go with ‘Sakura-chan’.”

“…Fine.”

Geez, your lips are always so proud, Sakura-chan you tsundere.

“But if I’m not calling you Fukioka-san, then you have to call me Reika!”

“I see. Then let’s go with Reika-san.”

EHHHH! If I’m calling you ‘-chan’, wouldn’t it be normal to call me ‘-chan’ back!? I want my friends to call me something casual too.

Maybe she could tell that I was sulky, because after a sigh, she said,

“Fine then, Reika.”

WHA-!? Suddenly jumping over the ‘-chan’ altogether and just using my bare name!?

*imouto*

At Sakura-chan’s house, we quickly became closer friends.

A Tenugui (手拭い) is a thin Japanese hand towel made of cotton. It is typically about 35 by 90 centimeters in size, plain woven and is almost always dyed with some pattern. It can be used for anything a towel could be used for – as a washcloth, dishcloth, but often as a headband, souvenir, decoration, or for wrapping items such as bottles. Towels made from terry cloth have largely replaced it in household use. However tenugui are still popular as souvenirs, decorations, and as a head covering in kendo, where it functions as a sweatband, as extra padding beneath the headgear (men), and to identify the participants by team color.

Nerima Daikon is one of Japan’s main daikon radish breeds, named such because it was once cultivated in Nerima, Tokyo. Shougoin Daikon(聖護院大根) is one of the traditional daikon radishes of Kyoto.

Daikon-Ashi(lit. daikon legs) is the Japanese equivalent to ‘thunder thighs’, in reference to the shape of daikon radishes.

Aodakefumi is simply a piece of smooth, hard bamboo that is naturally and ideally cut and shaped to provide the bottom of your feet with an amazing massage, simply by gently stepping on it. Believed by some to encourage weight loss.

The cram school I’d been going to had been focused exclusively for primary school, so now that I’m in middle school I needed to find a new one.
For my middle school one as well, I picked one that Oniisama used to attend. I’m not with Akizawa-kun and Fukioka-san anymore, but Aoi-chan was with me instead!
Aoi-chan had been attending a primary school that was attached to higher-tiered schools. Because of that, even though it was a primary school attached to a bigger school the same way Zuiran’s primary school was, the system it used wasn’t an escalator and unless you passed the entrance exams, they would mercilessly expel you. Thanks to that, Aoi-chan had bags under her eyes since New Year’s.
Now that she’s made it into the associated middle school without a problem, she’s been chatting with me about Tarow the Taro just like we used to. Apparently there’s this new tenugui merchandise for him. Why a tenugui instead of a handkerchief or hand towel?

I’m still talking to Fukioka-san by email and phone calls. People with a sharp tongue like her are surprisingly rare, so I want us to stay friends.
Last time we talked we mentioned going somewhere together. It’s so friends-like! But wouldn’t it be better if she spent time with Akizawa-kun? Or so I thought, but it seems that Akizawa-kun is busy that day. Thought so~

*imouto*

Now that I’m a middle schooler, I’m allowed to walk outside by myself now. Only during the day though.
On weekdays I have classes, so I don’t have much free time. But the fact that I have a few hours to wander about during the weekends now makes me pretty happy.
Now that I can just go to the convenience store to buy snacks, I don’t need to use cram school as a cover anymore. If I bring a large bag with me to bring home snacks and sweets, I doubt Okaasama will find out.
Okaasama thinks beautiful skin is a girl’s life, so she definitely wouldn’t allow me to eat snacks with cheap oils in them.
And what’s more, my next goal is eating fast food.
I really want some. It’s the embodiment of junk food. Why do chips taste so good. And I definitely want ketchup with it.

Also known as french fries in certain places in the Anglosphere.
Chips. Also known as french fries in certain other places in the Anglosphere.

Zuiran has students coming from all over, so even if I head far away from home to buy snacks, there’s still a chance I’ll get spotted. Because of that, I still can’t let my guard down.
Also, I want to eat at the food stands in festivals! Because festivals happen at night, it’ll be hard for me to get permission, so at the moment it’s nothing more than a dream. But festival yakisoba is yummy isn’t it~

Yakisoba. Fried buckwheat, flavoured with a sauce that is more or less a mix of oyster sauce and thickened Worstershire sauce.

Ah-, and I want to eat takoyaki as well.

*imouto*

Even though I thought I’d be released from it after leaving primary, I ended up being nominated as vice rep again.
And my partner, the class rep, is Class Rep. He’s in my class again. For some reason it feels like we’re just the ‘class rep’ pair, but huh~ Unlike Class Rep, I’m not even a stereotype class-rep character.
Class Rep feels like he was born to be a class rep. Everybody calls him Class Rep like it’s natural. What was his real name, anyway?

*imouto*

In May, we have the customary excursion. And it’s mountain climbing.
Ugh. Mountain climbing. I really don’t wanna go.
Apparently the idea behind it is to help the Internals and Externals bond through agonising physical activity, but rather than mountain climbing where everybody is too busy going ‘hahh hahh wheeze wheeze’ to even have a decent conversation, wouldn’t it be better to have an outdoors cooking session or a barbeque at a camp site somewhere? At least I think we’d bond a lot better that way.
It’s unfortunate, but I can’t understand the appeal behind mountain climbing at all.
Apparently Class Rep actually quite likes mountain climbing. When I asked him what was fun about it, he listed the nature, the clean air, and the feeling of accomplishment for reaching the summit, but sorry. I still don’t get it at all.
We’re all a bunch of weak-limbed ojousamas who get chauffeured everywhere, so please don’t make us do something as harsh as mountain climbing.
Speaking of which, for a while I used to do squats in primary school, but I ended up stopping at some point, didn’t I. I still do my stretches before bed though.
You know, lately, I’m getting the feeling that my legs are getting fatter than they used to be. Well, compared to my last life they’re still totally thin though.
In my last life, when I stopped growing taller in middle school, I started growing sideways instead, which was horrifying.
The ruder boys called me ‘Nerima’. When I went to Kyoto, they called me ‘Shougoin’. I cursed all of them to stop growing.
Even though there were plenty of girls with thicker legs than mine! Even though my weight was average! Even though my legs weren’t fat, they were just a little swollen!
Why are middle school boys so insensitive. Cause they’re idiots I suppose. It’s definitely because they’re idiots, yep.
I also cursed them to be unpopular. This cursed worked quite well, kekeke!
I also tried a diet to make my legs skinnier, but they sure didn’t work at all. Tsk. All these unpleasant memories are surfacing.
I think I’ll buy an aodakefumi the next time I have a break.

*imouto*

During the mountain climbing, my group fell behind. Class Rep, I’ll leave the rest to you. I’m struggling just taking care of myself here. My lungs are making a weird noise.
I’m suffering. I have to keep watching my feet so that I don’t fall, so I can’t look at the scenery at all. Just what the heck is fun about this.
Whenever I look behind me, here and there I spot other kids on the verge of death. …Thank goodness, I’m not the only one.
When I finally made it up to the mountain somehow, kids who arrived way earlier were already eating their lunches.

Oi! Weren’t we supposed to be deepening our bonds today.

I was so tired that I couldn’t even find the energy to eat. Us weaker kids are all hunched over, exhausted.
While I was sitting there, I could hear the girls around Kaburagi and Enjou happily kicking up a fuss.
Even though my group hasn’t even opened our lunch boxes yet, those guys are already done eating.
There’s this somewhat gyaru-group that’s been forming since we entered middle school that’s for some reason full of athletic girls. I’m jealous.
After resting for a while, just as I regained the energy needed to eat, I saw some of the External boys chatting amicably with some Internal girls.
Goodness! While we were here dying, some of the Externals and Internals got closer together! Could it be that the mountain climbing worked!?
Nothing so wonderful happened for me. Is it because I look weird sporting drill hair with a tracksuit?
Oh? Isn’t that Miharu-chan over there?
Miharu-chan is the vice class rep for another class. She also fits the image of a class rep to a tee.
Anyway, there she was, chatting with an External boy. Ah! She laughed.
I wonder if Class Rep felt jealous seeing that. Even at normal times, he’s already so panicked about Enjou being in her class.
Before long, he’s going to come for more advice, I bet.

*imouto*

Aahh… When it’s time to leave the mountain, I wonder if it’s possible to have the Kisshouin family send me a helicopter.

Chapter 7 – A Certain Pope’s Plans

The Holy Anri Thearchy.
A young religious nation formed from one of the corners of the Kingdom of Fortera, it had two national symbols.

The first was the temple-cum-dungeon, the “Holy Land of the Evil God”.
With five terranean floors and thirty-one subterranean floors, it was a massive labyrinth where each day, adventurers would risk their liv-… risk their money.
Even following the conclusion of the Three Gods War, the number of challengers saw no end.
To begin with, a dungeon was a chance to get rich quickly for adventurers. Not only did this dungeons contain numerous treasures, if they defeated the dungeon master, further fame and fortune would result.
Naturally, high risk accompanied that high return, but this particular dungeon boasted safety so great that to date, not a single person had ever died there. At the same time, it was also the most difficult dungeon in the world.
As a result of the Gods of Light and Darkness ordering their respective races to conquer it, its fame or perhaps infamy had skyrocketed. Now, adventurers from across the world gathered to challenge it.
Of course, you could say that for the merchants and inn owners in the vicinity of the temple, this crowd was a group of suckers.
And so, the Holy Anri Thearchy whose main industry was tourism, continued to grow at an abnormal speed.

As for the other symbol──

“OHHH! Anri-sama! Our God! Please listen to our prayers!”

A blonde young man in luxurious vestments was kneeling in fervent prayer.
And the one he was praying to was the figure of the nation’s patron god, Evil God Anri.
Indeed. ‘Figure’. Not the person herself.
The man was kneeling in prayer before a statue of Evil God Anri.
Because worshipping an idol was not outlawed in this nation, praying to a statue was not particularly strange. However, the problem was the size of the statue in question.

Its height rivalled that of the five story temple next to it.
A statue swiftly constructed in the Pope’s zeal, the Giant Anri Statue.

Incidentally, it goes without saying but the man currently praying to the statue was the very Pope who constructed it.
Every morning and night, without fail, he would offer his prayers to this statue.

This statue was surrounded by a fence, and drawing near it was strictly forbidden. This was a direct order from Evil God Anri herself, and even the Pope was not permitted to approach the feet of the statue.
Because the Giant Anri Statue was based on Anri clad in her Black Rose Dress, standing at its feet would give them quite an eyeful.
Because the Pope had carefully reproduced even the finest details.

“Phew, any morning where I can pray to Anri-sama is a refreshing one. Huhu, building this statue was the right choice.”

Wiping away his sweat, the Pope gave himself a thumbs up.
Like he said, the nations’ reception of this statue was exceedingly positive. To begin with, the country was a gathering of devout worshippers, so they rejoiced at the construction of the statue, and even without this piety, the statue itself was brilliantly made.
It was so brilliantly made that a certain girl could no longer walk about unmasked.

“Now then…”

The one who had created the plans for this perfect statue was none other than the Pope, and now that the Giant Anri Statue was complete, it was time to move onto his other plans.

“It’s time to bring the Grassroots Anri-sama Plan to the next stage.”

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

“Aaannnnriiiiiisaaaamaaaaaa!!!”

Hearing the voice from outside, Anri unconsciously brought a hand to her brow.
There was no need to even guess who the man running her way was.
Rather, there could only be one person.

Perhaps because meeting with the divine Anri was difficult, at every matter the Pope would come rushing to report at the Black Rose Mansion.
Because he helped with the construction of this mansion, she would feel uncomfortable about being too cold with him and never turned him away, but it seemed that it mightn’t have been the best decision.

“Pleaaseeeee haaaaaveeee aaaaaaa looooookkkkk!!!”

She could feel a headache forming.
His reports could be roughly grouped into three: the status of the country, the status of the missionary work, and then miscellaneous reports. Amongst these three, the last one was the root of the most problems, as she had painfully experienced herself.
And from how he was behaving now, it seemed that today’s report would be one of the troubling ones.

“Please have a look, Anri-sama!”

Opening the doors and making himself seen, that was the very first thing he said.

“What’s going on?”

Under her mask, Anri’s face had cramped up, but she tried to sound as calm as she could.

“Huhuhu, it is finally ready! The main force behind the Grassroots Anri-sama Plan, the Miniature Anri Statue!”

With those words, the Pope produced a palm-sized sculpture. The design was the same as the dress-clad Giant Anri Statue, but despite its small size the details were delicately reproduced. Truly splendid quality.
So high was its quality that any art enthusiasts in this world would have surely paid top price to obtain it.
But to Anri who had knowledge of another world, she could only see it as a figurine.

“How is it? Is it not splendid?”

“What exactly are you planning to do with this?”

The Pope had happily asked for her impressions, but she simply felt her face cramping up further.

“Naturally we will distribute one to every follower so that they may offer prayer whenever they want. In the future, I plan to have these sent beyond our borders as well.”

Finding that her hunch was dead-on, Anri shook her head and decided to stop his crazy plan early in its tracks.
Having a figurine of herself distributed to thousands, tens of thousands of people was nothing but a nightmare to her.

“I won’t all-…”

“The preparations are ready to produce a hundred a day. I suspect it will not be long before every believer has one.”

“You’re already at the mass-production stage!?”

Because it had progressed so much further than she had imagined, Anri let out a rare scream of shock.
But perhaps the Pope took her surprise to be pleasant surprise, because he smiled proudly.

“I cannot continue at such a snail’s pace. I must quickly prepare for manufacture of more designs…! Well then, please excuse me!”

“Wai-…”

With that declaration, the Pope left as quickly as he had come.
Left behind, Anri could only let out a sigh of resignation.

Side Story 6

Hello guys, it’s Estelion. The second volume and final volume of Evil God Average is coming out soon. To be honest, given how much I disliked Summoning At Random, and how almost nobody liked EGA enough to support the author (you could chop off most of my hand an I could still count the number of people who sent me a photo), I wasn’t sure if I even wanted to finish the last few short stories…

But hey, might as well, and what better time than the upcoming release of Book of God. After I finish the last two side stories in Book of God, I’ll get around to translating the holiday specials that they wrote as well.

Side Story 6 – A Certain Demon King’s Dinner Gathering

At present there were four girls living in the Black Rose Mansion.
Anri who was the lord of the estate, Tena who was her kin as well as the head maid, Lili who was like a younger sister that helped with the housework despite her age, and finally Leonora who was a sponger.
Among these four, Anri, Tena and Lili were permanent residents but in the end, Leonora was simply staying here temporarily.
As the daughter of the Demon King and the successor to his throne, once her moratorium journey was finished, she would be returning to the Demon Race Territory.
To begin with, there was no fixed date for the end of her journey, but she couldn’t continue it forever.

She herself had placed the conditions for return as “obtaining some kind of merit”.
And objectively speaking, she had already accomplished this.

She had helped with the establishment of a neighbouring nation, and had deep bonds with its VIPs. Additionally, this neighbouring nation shaved away land from the enemy nation, Fortera, and was constructed like a buffer. Furthermore, trade with the Human Race that had been previously deemed as impossible, was now possible through this new nation.
She had gained plenty enough merit as a successor to the throne.
As a result, it could be said that the message she had received was natural.

“You’re returning to your country?”

“Yeah, they’re starting to press me, you see.”

At dinner, Leonora told Anri and the others about her motherland’s inquiries about whether she was ready to return.

“It’s pretty sudden.”

“No, that’s not really true. They’ve implicitly brought it up before. I had decided to leave it alone until they straight out said it, but as you’d expect, I probably can’t stay here much longer this time.”

“I see…”

Because it was akin to Leonora admitting herself that she still wanted to stay here, she flushed a little red with embarrassment.

“So when will you be leaving, Leonora-san?”

“Let’s see. I’m planning on departing tomorrow.”

“T-, Tomorrow, you say?”

“Yeah. We’re pretty far from the Demon Race Territory after all.”

Leonora’s reply had shocked Tena. Certainly, this did seem quite sudden. But as Leonora had said, it would take a number of days to the Demon Race Territory. On top of that, it would take even more days from the border to the Demon King Castle. Because of that, it made sense that she needed to depart as soon as possible.

“And so, there’s something I want to ask… Won’t you come with me to visit the Demon Race Territory?”

“? Us?”

“Yeah. I’m inviting you as a friend. Naturally, you’re VIPs in a neighbouring country, and will be entertained as state guests.”

At present, Anri had no official power in the Holy Anri Thearchy, but realistically considering her connections, it wasn’t necessarily wrong to call her a VIP.
But in that case, they should have sent a request through the Holy Anri Thearchy, and not directly invited her like this.
In the end, the truth was that Leonora was simply inviting a friend to her house.

Leonora Romariel… As the heir to the Demon King’s Throne, she had always been friendless.

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

The next day, Anri and Leonora visited the Evil God Temple.
Leonora had planned on inviting Anri, Tena and Lili, but Lili was still too young, and the long journey would not be good for her. Because of that, Tena was forced to stay back to look after her, and in the end only Anri would be going.

“Hey, Anri… Are we seriously riding that thing?”

“It’s faster this way.”

“Well, sure, but… but, you know…”

The two of them were here at the Evil God Temple to secure their means of transport.
Going by foot or carriage like normal people would take almost a month there and back, but now that Tena and Lili would be waiting at the Black Rose Estate, Anri didn’t want to take so long.
And so, she had chosen the fastest method of getting there. And she could find that method here.

Still, when Leonora had heard, she frowned unhappily.
She had told them that she would be departing today, but she never mentioned how she would be getting there. After all, she only found out today.
When Anri told her that they would be getting there in a day, she carelessly thought it would be teleportation magic or the like. That optimism had backfired on her. Thinking about it carefully, the divine race Anri aside, there was no way that the human Anri could have such a power.
There weren’t any more appointed communications with her country, but it was still possible to send an emergency communiqué to let them know first. While Leonora was agonising over whether or not she should do it, it was already too late.

Having given up, Leonora sighed and muttered her faint hope.

“It’d be good if this didn’t cause an uproar at home, but…”

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

Demon Race Territory, Demon King’s Castle

Deep within the Demon Race Territory lay a castle. It belonged to the Demon King who reigned supreme within the Demon Race, and served as their supreme headquarters.
Although the war between the demons and humans had continued for a long time, the battles all took place near the borders, and not once had a human invaded as far as the Demon King Castle.
Despite this, its security showed no signs of negligence.
Many layers of large security nets protected the castle, and if an enemy army was ever spotted, the demonic forces were ready to intercept them at a moment’s notice.

One day, an urgent message arrived at the castle from one the ‘net’ closest to the Human Race Territory.

“Your Majesty! Urgent news!”

“How noisy. What is going on?”

Eligor Romariel, the incumbent Demon King, had been in his office when a guard suddenly stormed in.

“Just a moment ago, we received news from one of the border forts! According to the report, a gargantuan dragon is making a beeline towards this castle!”

“A dragon, you say?”

“Yes, Sire! An ominous, jet black dragon.”

The report silenced the Demon King, who had seemingly fallen into silent recollection of something. But before he could organise his thoughts, a question from the guard scattered them.

“What shall we do, Sire?”

“If it is navigating the skies then our security nets will be of no use. Have the troops gather in the direction of the dragon! Also, have Renarve, Vikuto, and Ijido come as well. I shall also head there immediately.”

Giving a passing glance at the guard who hurried away, the Demon King began preparing his equipment.

*imouto*

By the time the Demon King had appeared in the castle’s eastern quadrant, the guards had already finished preparing.
Troops with shields stood on the ground, and formed the vanguard to oppose the dragon’s aerial attacks, whilst the mage troops stood within the castle walls. The frontline troops were to serve as a decoy, and the mages were to concentrate their attacks while the dragon was distracted.
Although they had suddenly been gathered here, the soldiers showed no signs of panic, and calmly arranged themselves. Their actions reflected the preparedness and level of training of the Demon Race.
And the ones who directly commanded them were the Four Heavenly Kings who served as the Demon King’s close aides.

“Vanguard, how goes the preparation of your shields!”

“They are ready, Renarve-sama!”

“Mage Unit, I assume that all of you are here?”

“Yessir, everybody is present!”

Violent Gale Knight Renarve was commanding the frontline, whilst Bloodfrost General Vikuto was in charge of the backline. On the other hand, Adamantite Earth Demon Ijido was using earth magic to form a protective wall for the decoy frontline.

“How is your wall coming along?”

“Yeah, I’m all done here.”

Ijido answered Vikuto with a smirk.
After that, the Demon King came along.

“Have you all finished preparing?”

“Why if it isn’t His Majesty. Yes, we are all ready.”

The Demon King responded with a nod, before looking up towards the Eastern skies. Renarve, Vikuto and Ijido too, had their eyes pinned to the skies.

“By our fastest estimates, it should be arriving any time now.”

“Honestly, on the day that our Princess is coming back…”

“Speaking of which, she’s leaving for home today, isn’t she.”

“Indeed. We received her message last night.”

“………”

“Your Majesty? Is something the matter?”

“No, only, I feel as though I have forgotten something, and yet…”

Once again, the Demon King fell into thought just as he did the time the guard interrupted. But once again, something interrupted him. This time however, that something was also the answer to his questions.

“!? We have a visual!”

Renarve spotted the incoming black mass and yelled to warned the troops.

“Is that it? …Hm?”

“That’s… Don’t tell me…”

That dragon!?”

“Hahh? The heck are you guys on about?”

Because the Demon King, Renarve and Vikuto were all familiar with that figure, they immediately guessed the situation. It was the Black Dragon that they had once battled in the dungeon known as the “Holy Land of the Evil God”. And if they considered Leonora’s homecoming plans, it was simple to guess what was happening.
On the other hand, only Ijido was panicked from having no idea what was happening.

“Renarve-sama, Vikuto-sama, please give us the signal to attack!”

“W-, Wait a moment! You mustn’t attack!”

“Huh?”

“Riding that dragon is──”

The black shadow approached with incredible speed, and in no time transformed from a dot into a massive silhouette, and before long it easily crushed Ijido’s prided wall and landed with a boom.
The frontline soldiers hurriedly formed an arc before the dragon, but because their superiors had given no attack orders, they were standing there confused.
However, that confusion was met with Vikuto’s next line.

“──Princess Leonora!”

As though responding to his shout, a girl made herself visible from the blind spot on the Black Dragon’s back.
But unlike Vikuto’s words, that girl was not Leonora.

Naturally, everyone there had been looking at the Black Dragon.
And because of that, you could call it natural that everybody there turned to look a the girl.
The Demon King, Renarve, Vikuto, Ijido, everybody without exception looked at the girl. Or rather, they were forced to see her.

Glossy black hair, and a bewitching black rose dress. Light armour at her chest, and noble features on her face. Yet, what made far more of an impression were her eyes. Those black, murky eyes, so ominous that they caused hallucinations, were now overlooking everybody on scene, and gripping their hearts with terror.
It was because these troops were the elites of their race that they so deeply sensed her power. The Demon King had always been the strongest existence in their hearts. The mastodonian Black Dragon emitted an unbelievable sense of pressure. And yet the despair that the girl’s eyes elicited easily surpassed them both.

And the Demon King and his adjutants were no exception. Leaving Ijido aside, all the other members knew that this girl would be coming, and they knew from Leonora’s reports about the girl’s mystic eyes. But although they knew, they still found themselves unable to suppress the instinctual horror that their bodies felt.

Given the circumstances, anybody faint of heart would have immediately fled in panic. The fact that they were not a single soldier less was worthy of praise.
But their strength of heart instead cornered them. Their minds were telling them not to run, but their instincts were telling them to flee. The contradictory born from this wore away at their minds.

And eventually, unable to bear with the terror any longer, all of them naturally took the same pose. It was a pose where they placed both hands and knees on the ground, and lowered their head to match; the posture of greatest apology, passed down since ancient times.

“O-, Oi, Anri!? You’ve forgotten to put your mask on!”

“………Ah.”

Anri’s Mystic Eyes of Wicked Authority fully demonstrated the ‘average’ power that was capable of forcing a Demon King to dogeza.

◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆◇◆

Things started with some trouble, but Anri put on her mask, and the dogeza festival came to an end.
The gathered troops dispersed, the two girls were invited into the castle, and just as originally planned, they had dinner with the Demon King. The participants were Anri, Demon King Eligor, Leonora, and the Heavenly Generals Renarve and Vikuto.

*imouto*

*imouto*

Around that time, Ijido was busy repairing the damaged eastern grounds.

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

“Fumu, it seems that as long as one does not look directly at them, the eyes have no effect.”

“I’ve put a mask on, so there it’s all fine now.”

While drinking the soup from the full course menu, the Demon King chatted with Anri. Because her mask was the type that covered only the eyes, there was no problem eating her food. The mask was an extraordinary item, designed so that although things were invisible from the outside, she could see clearly from within.
Because her mystic eyes only displayed an effect with eye contact, as long as she wore this mask, nobody would suddenly prostrate or run away from her.

“When you have that mask on, you seem just like a normal girl.”

“I am normal.”

“Heh. So a VIP of a thearchy who used to be an Evil God, and is still acquainted with the divines, is what you would call a normal girl, huh.”

Like this, the dinner continued peacefully as the Demon King and Anri enjoyed their chat together.

*imouto*

*imouto*

Around that time, Black Dragon Vardneel had begun to help Ijido fix the ground. Making use of his huge body, he stepped down on the ground to harden it.

*imouto*

*imouto*

“Speaking of which, there is something I must thank you for.”

“Thank me for?”

“Umu. It is about my daughter, Leonora.”

“Fath-! Your Majesty!?”

Leonora had been quietly eating dinner on the side when she panicked from the topic suddenly changing to her.

“I was unable to prepare Leonora any friends. Even if I ordered somebody to, they would only be a retainer. You could hardly call them a true friend.”

“Father…”

“I wished to thank you for becoming her friend.”

“It isn’t something to thank me for. I’m the one who asked.”

“Heh, is that how it was.”

The Demon Princess, the Demon King, and the girl who was once an Evil God.
Each of them had unique positions in the world, but for this moment, they were simply a girl, her father, and her friend who had come for dinner.

*imouto*

*imouto*

While this was happening, Ijido and Vardneel’s cooperation had somehow succeeded in restoring the eastern grounds.

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

It should be noted that though Anri’s mask was the best method of sealing her mystic eyes, nothing came without a price. In exchange for the powerful effect of its enchantment, it also came with a curse.
Unlike the Tantou of the Wicked Demon, or the Black Clothes of the Evil God, it wasn’t as though she couldn’t take it off, but this mask──the Black Mask of Unsealing──had the annoying effect of unsealing the limiter on one’s emotions. To put it plainly, it made it difficult to control one’s feelings. Because of that, it had the result of blabbing out all sorts of things that one wouldn’t normally.

“I’m really glad that I met Leonora. I want to stay by her side forever.”

“A-, Anri!?”

“Muu… Isn’t that going a little far? Leonora is the heir to the throne, and so she must bear an heir, but…”

And so, although you would feel nothing about saying such things while the mask was on, the moment that you took it off, you would be assaulted with shame.
It was arranged for Anri to stay the night in the castle, but that evening she would end up writhing about atop her bed for quite a while.

*imouto*

*imouto*

Around that time, Ijido and Vardneel had begun to drink happily together.

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

*imouto*

“Umm, would it be all right if I asked a question?”

“What a coincidence, Renarve. I too had something to ask…”

Waiting for a break in the conversation, the previously silent Renarve and Vikuto suddenly spoke up together.

“Mn? What’s the matter, you two?”

The two of them were looking at Leonora’s chest together.

“W-, What’s with you two…?”

Because they were so openly staring at her, by reflex she covered her chest with the thing on her lap. But what they were staring at was not her bountiful breasts, but the thing that she used to cover it.

*imouto*

*imouto*

“”Why have you been holding that doll all this time?””

“Huh!? So I was! I’ve been carrying it all the time lately, so I forgot I even had it! Y-, You’re wrong… This isn’t by choice! There are some compelling circumstances behind this!”

What they were staring at was the doll that had been in Leonora’s hands, and that she was now using to hide her chest. Ever since she had returned here, she had always been carrying it around with her, so naturally passerbys had all noticed and wondered. Because of her status however, it wasn’t possible for them to casually ask her about it.
To be specific, the doll that she was carrying was the Symbol of Capture from the battle of three gods, the cursed Tena doll. Ever since she carelessly touched it, Anri had left the curse alone as punishment. Because she forgot about it and left the temple, afterwards it was harder for her to meet with the divine Anri, and the curse was never lifted.

“Fumu, I did tell you to find some more womanly hobbies but… is that your taste?”

“You’re wrong! You’re wrong, father!”

The cursed Tena doll was creepy no matter who you asked, and couldn’t be considered girly no matter what.

“Leonora’s become so fond of it that she won’t part from it.”

“Fumu, I see… But well, I will not do something as boorish as commenting on my daughter’s taste and past-times.”

“I said that was wrong…! Or rather, Anri! This is nine-tenths your fault, isn’t it!?”

The rumours of the doll-carrying Demon Princess had quickly spread through the demons’ lands, and by this point it was already impossible to suppress the rumours.
And this was how the legend of the Doll Princess began.

TL Note:

<Magic Flame Princess, Leonora>

With the achievement of establishing diplomatic relations with the Holy Anri Thearchy, she inherited the throne of the Demon King at a young age.
She became the mediator for the two nations, and was adored by even the humans, who were originally the enemy.
In addition, due to the fact that she was forced to continue holding the doll and was unable to part from it, she gained aliases such as “Doll Princess” and “The Truth Is, the Doll Is Her Real Body” etc.

“I told you that was wrong, didn’t I!?”

Reika-sama – 043

Everybody, please check the FAQ first before asking me questions.
If it’s not on there, please feel free and ask. I only get annoyed at questions when the same one has been asked 10+ times, and by then I’ll have updated the FAQ.

Thank you for your consideration, guys!

It’s been a while. Sorry for the wait! With this chapter begins Reika’s adventures in Zuiran’s middle school section. (:

I’ve entered Zuiran’s middle school section.
The blazer jacket has changed from navy to white, and is quite a cute design. The wine coloured striped ribbon just accentuates that cuteness, and even though it’s only been a month since I’ve entered, just changing the uniform makes me look like quite the oneesan. How mysterious.

*imouto*

Now that we’ve entered middle school, 30% of our cohort is now new students who entered after taking an exam, the Externals.
And this new group of students managed to get into our school after rigorous examinations, so they’re all really smart.
In general, Zuiran students just ride the figurative escalator up from primary school, excluding special circumstances. Because of that, people sometimes talk about how the Internal Students are less bright than the Externals.
Once we enter high school, there are going to be even smarter kids coming in. In fact, by the time we’re in high school, with the exception of a small group of students, it’s the kids who have been here since primary that people take to be the dumbest.
But then usually the Internals themselves don’t really mind, so I guess that’s fine. They’re at least not dumber than your normal kid after all.
From the staff’s perspective though, it wouldn’t be good for the traditional and prestigious Zuiran to be seen as a den of idiots. That’s why they gather smart kids from outside to make up for it.
Thanks to Zuiran’s brand power, as well as their splendid facilities and teaching content, we’ve got strong popularity, so it’s not a problem gathering gifted students at all.
Particularly exceptional students are even taken as scholarship students, so they’re exempted from school fees. And amongst them, those that perform above a certain level in the national mock exams are even given scholarship money that doesn’t need to be returned.
In other words, they’re buying academic ranks with money in order to preserve the school’s honour, right?

*imouto*

Kimidol’s protagonist also entered Zuiran as a scholarship student.
She entered Zuiran because she didn’t want to pay school fees. What’s more, if she tried hard, she could even make money from the scholarship system there, which is why she wanted in. But when she entered, their sense of money value was just too different from hers, and she suffered quite a culture shock.
And well, yeah. Normally a school wouldn’t do things on such a crazy scale.
I know how she felt because I experienced the same thing when I entered as a primary school student.
‘What the hell is this!? This isn’t how I remembered primary schools!’ I thought with my mouth agape.
But she’ll definitely get used to it, so three years from now, I hope the protagonist will give it her all.

*imouto*

*imouto*

The biggest difference between the primary section, and the middle-high sections is the existence of the Student Council.
The Student Council is a meritocratic organisation formed from good students.
In comparison, the Pivoine stresses lineage, pedigree, and assets more than individual power, and only people who can fulfil these and have been purebred Zuiran students since primary are allowed in.
The Pivoine think of themselves as the true embodiment of Zuiran, and because of that the Student Council are an arrogant and loathesome group of outsiders. On the other hand, the Pivoine’s power doesn’t come from their members as individuals, so the Student Council thinks of them as a harmful group that only knows how to abuse their power.
Although the traditionalist Pivoine and the meritocratic Student Council don’t butt heads on the surface, friction between them goes back a long time.
I don’t know what kind of person the incumbent Student Council President is, but I hope they don’t kick up a fuss while I’m here.

*imouto*

*imouto*

The middle and high school students belong to the same Pivoine. The Petite Pivoine in primary is in the end just an extra, and the middle-high section Pivoine is the real thing.
When I opened the door to the salon, I was met with furniture known for its beautiful curves, as well as flower arrangements of moth orchids and other spring flowers.

A flower arrangement of 胡蝶蘭(kochouran; lit. butterfly orchid), known as Phalaenopsis or moth orchids in English.
A flower arrangement of 胡蝶蘭(kochouran; lit. butterfly orchid), known as Phalaenopsis or moth orchids in English.

There was even a grand piano by the window.
I became particularly fond of this one-person sofa by the wall, with this cute art noveau style lamp next to it, so I ended up sitting here most of the time I went to the salon.

cs-1009a

How nice. This lamp is so cute. I want one for my room too.

Since the salon was shared by both middle and high school students, Yurie-sama was naturally there too. Emperor seemed incredibly happy, since it was the first time in years they had been enjoying school together.
He tried to hide it, but the corners of his mouth would curve up. He’s pretty easy to understand.
Lately he hasn’t been acting like a stalker either, and perhaps as a result of Yurie-sama’s teachings, apparently he can think about others too now. I guess he matured as a human, huh~
As long as he’s with his beloved Yurie-sama, Emperor is always in a good mood, so I’ll probably be able to relax for another two years. Thank goodness.

“Reika-san, have you gotten used to the middle school section?”

Aira-sama came over to talk to me with some sweets in hand.
Today’s was sachertorte, a type of chocolate cake with apricot jam.

sachertorte-airport-a

Seeing the lustrous chocolate made me gulp.

“Yes. Being able to go to the school cafeteria instead of being given a school lunch was quite a fresh experience.”

Once you enter middle school here, you can choose whether to go to the cafeteria or to bring lunch from home. The cafeteria seems like your normal fancy restaurant. Pretty much everything on the menu is over 2000 Yen. Quite expensive for your average student. It’s delicious though.
I’ve actually got this secret goal of conquering every item on the menu, so for now I’m one of the kids that goes to the cafeteria.
And even in the cafeteria there are exclusive seats for the Pivoine. They’re seated by the window in this well lit area.
Speaking of which, in Kimidol there was this one scene, wasn’t there. The protagonist had no idea that it was Pivoine exclusive, and tried to sit down there, displeasing them.
Yeah. Try your best, protagonist. Although, the one who was the most angry and shouted “A commoner would dare!? Know your place!” was actually Kisshouin Reika though.

“Are things going well with the External Students?”

“Well, there is still a wall between us, you could say.”

“Well, I suppose there would be.”

There are roughly ten External kids in each class. Unlike the scholarship students that will enter in the high school section, the Externals in middle school are still kids from families who can pay Zuiran’s expensive school fees. Because of that, there isn’t too much of a difference in their sense for spending money.
That’s why I think we’ll all settle down after a while. Probably.

I’m still thinking about whether or not to enter a club. There isn’t anything I really want to do after all.
Oniisama suggested that I enter the cooking club, but the activity days overlap with my lessons.
I also have my cram school and lessons with Karin-sensei as well. The first test since middle school is coming up soon, so I’m pretty busy at the moment.
Lately I’ve sort of been getting a lot of “as expected of Reika-sama” so I’m secretly struggling really hard not to let my true colours show.
Especially maths. Maths is suffering to me.
I remembered the word ‘factorisation’ but I’d completely forgotten what it entails. I just barely remembered that it has something to do with x and y. What the hell is going on with my memory.
Did I really learn this in my last life? I did, right? I mean, it’s part of the compulsory curriculum.
Since I felt a huge crisis impending, I had Karin-sensei drill it into me.
I’d already decided to stop expecting anything academic from the past me. I should have already known as much after my experience in the primary school section…
But I just keep having these faint hopes.
There’s no such thing as miracles though.
I guess I’ll just keep trying my best from scratch…

Raid on the Capital – Chapter 9

Everybody, please check the FAQ first before asking me questions.

Chapter 9 – Jessica and the Start of the Death Game

“Tilea-san, will you really be okay with a game?”

“Leave it to me, Jessica-chan. I’m bad with fighting, but using my head is my strong point.”

Tilea-san was filled with confidence, but I was terribly uneasy. So terribly, terribly uneasy. I couldn’t even picture her winning against these guys.

The demons in front of me had more to them than just their incredible mana. I could see the intelligence in their eyes.

My mana might not be that great, but I have a little bit of confidence when it comes to using my head. But if you ask me if I can win against these guys without losing, then the answer would be no. Depending on the contents of the game, there’s more than enough of a possibility that I would be horribly beaten.

Mm mm, I can’t think such cowardly things. Otherwise I’ll even lose games that I’d normally win. Anyway, I need to ask for the details of the game and then form a proper plan. It looks like Tilea-san was curious as well, because she ran over to Horus and asked,

“Well? What’s the game about?”

“The game we have prepared is called Element Predict[Element Prediction Attack and Defence].”

“Elem…?”

Her expression turned blank at the unfamiliar word. Are we really going to be okay? I wonder if Tilea-san can follow his explanation… I’m feeling really uneasy.

“I will explain from the basics. Though you are a feeble human, no doubt you know of the elements of magic, correct?”

“E-, Elements? Y-, Yeah.”

“And of course you know of the compatibilities and relationships between the elements?”

“Compatibilities? Relationships?”

“What? Don’t tell me you don’t even know that much.”

“N-, No no, of course I do… It’s umm, yeah, that thing. Yeah, compatibilities. Yep, yep. Compatibilities and relationships, that stuff is like common sense, you know.”

Oh geez, Tilea-san nodded, but her expression told me that she was just pretending and had absolutely no idea. Horus also gave a suspicious glare.

“W-, What’s with you? A-, Are you doubting me? It’s no problem. I totally get it.”

“…Well, fine then. Element Predict is a game that involves the affinities and relationships between the elements.”

“Hmm~ I don’t really get it. What are the rules, specifically?”

“For the rest of the explanations, seeing it yourselves would be faster. Human, follow me.”

Horus brought Tilea-san and I into a small room in the ruins. From what I heard, it’s going to be a game about the magical elements.

The elements are fire, water, wood, earth, wind, lightning, light and dark; eight of them in total, and each of them with their own compabitilies. Fire is strong against water. Wind strengthens fire. That kind of thing.

For example, a sword with the fire attribute would do less damage to a fire element magic beast. So using water attribute magic or weapons would be more efficient. One of the popular opinions is that we should be fighting with elements in mind.

“We’re here. Enter.”

When we entered the room, I was assaulted by such a strong smell of blood that I felt like I choked. Guh-, it’s true that I was on the battlefield earlier, but I can’t help that I’m not used to it yet.

I felt like I was going to throw up any minute, but I desperately endured.

“Ku ku, little girl, do you hate the smell of blood? You’re smelling the blood of all the earlier victims to this game. Naturally, we were not the losers.”

“…”

“What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue? Your blood is going to join theirs, you know. HUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!”

Horus laughed with a cruel smile.

I’m scared. I knew it, but demons really are scary. How can we play a game with somebody so…

And what’s more, a game of life and death. Even at best, we’re already being exposed to their demonic pressure. Is it even possible to think clearly like this?

I don’t think so. At least, it’s impossible for me.

But Tilea-san is here with me. No matter how terrifying they might be, she never yields. She’s like the sun. Even when Horus intimidated us a moment ago, she was completely firm. Here I am, trembling pathetically instead. You can’t even compare the two of us.

Tilea-san, help!

I turned to the side, and begged Tilea-san with my eyes.

“Hii-, i-, it’s blood. Everywhere, blood… Wa, wa, wa, wa, aah, I got ahead of myself… Oh god, oh god, a death game is completely, completely impossible. Somebody help. Myuu, Maira-san, Remilia-saaaaan! Hahh, hahh, of course nobody’s here… Jessica-chan, help.”

Tilea-san muttered to herself in a small voice. It didn’t look like Horus and the others heard, but she begged me for help. My eyes and her eyes met as we tried begging each other for help.

Haha, Tilea-san, with your power, why are you looking at me like that? You’re acting almost like some feeble town girl.

“Tilea-san, why are――”

“Jessica-chan, I’m sorry! Of course. You must be scared, right? And you’re still so young… I’m such a pathetic adult. Asking you for help just made you uneasy… Everything’s going to be okay, now. So don’t make that face anymore, okay?”

With those words, Tilea-san faced off against Horus. None of the fear from before was left on her face.

Huhu, what a strange person. At first I thought she was a dreamy oneesan, but after travelling with her, that fantasy completely collapsed. She’s stubborn and childish, and often she just sort of drags me around. But then, just like a moment ago, she’ll also take the attitude of a reliable guy.

Haha, I can’t understand her at all.

But there’s something I do know.

Tilea-san is determined now. So there’s nothing left for me to be afraid of.

I don’t know when, but the fear inside me disappeared.

“Horus, you called yourself? Your little threats are pointless. Because we’re going to win.”

“That’s the spirit. It’s a death game, so it’s not interesting if you’re petrified.”

“Well? What kind of game are we going to be playing here?”

“There are eight swords, and eight helmets in this room. Each pair belongs to one of the eight elements. You can find the labels on the sword handle and underneath the helmet.”

“Can I have a look?”

“Very well. See for yourself.”

Taking a sword and helmet from Horus, Tilea-san checked them over. There really was a label there.

“Jessica-chan, was he telling the truth about them being attributed?”

“Yes. I’m not that great at using Trace Magic[Investigation Magic] either, but I can tell that the labels are correct.”

“I see. Are there traces of anything suspicious?”

“It’s probably… okay, I think… I’m sorry. I’m not good with these sort of analyses, so I can’t say for sure…”

“No, no, that’s fine. Thank you. I just wanted to see if they were tricking us.”

Nodded to herself, Tilea-san handed them back to Horus.

“Are you satisfied now?”

“Yes. Well then, what are we using these for?”

“Let’s say you have the fire attribute helmet on, which has resistance against fire. Because of that, even if I attack with the fire attribute sword, you’ll take almost no damage. This holds true, even taking our mana into account.”

To demonstrate, he struck the fire helmet with the fire sword, but there was just a metallic echo, and not a single scratch on the helmet.

“On the other hand, if we instead do the opposite and use the water sword…”

When Horus struck down with the water sword, to say nothing of the helmet, even the metal table below it was pierced.

T-, This is…

These aren’t just your normal compabitilies. When the enchanted items interact, they synergise to the extreme.

“T-, This isn’t your normal elemental weaknesses――”

“Indeed, girl of the Academy. These items have been made with their elemental enchantments brought to the extreme. So even if a feeble human uses it, they can accomplish what I just did.”

“Are these created just for the game?”

“That’s right. Eight pairs for each of the eight elements. We guess each other’s choices. The attacker attacks with a sword, while the defender defends with the helmet.”

“Then this isn’t any different to just fighting normally! It’s obvious that the demons have the advantage!”

Tilea-san objected after hearing Horus.

“Relax, blonde girl. We have specifically made seperate sets for humans and demons, with the elemental enchantments adjusted for fairness. If the game isn’t balanced, then it would hardly be a battle of wits.”

“I see. Well, I’ll trust you on that for now, but…”

“We will alternate between attacking and defending after each turn. And then, ku ku ku, we continue until one helmet breaks and somebody dies.”

“…Then because of your tougher bodies, you demons have the advantage.”

“I do not deny it. However, we could simply kill you without the game. I think you should be grateful to us for the small chance to prevail. What’s more, you said that using your head is your strong point, didn’t you? If you predict well, you can just continue getting ‘no damage’ for yourself, and ‘critical damage’ for our side.”

To confirm, I asked,

“Can we expect that the other elements behave the conventional way that I learnt in class?”

“Yeah. That’s exactly right.”

Horus then continued on to further explain the relationships between the elements. Just as he said, the compatibilities were just like what I learnt in school.

I see, so if you use the fire sword against the fire helmet, it’s no damage. But changing to wood, earth or wind swords will multiply the base damage. And using a water sword will maximise the effect for critical damage.

“Your first opponent shall be I, Gesu-sama, the Captain of Horus-sama’s Blitz  Unit. Now then, which of you will start?”

With those words, a very cunning looking man stepped forward.

His attitude is arrogant, but he seems the careful type, and seems to have a rather determined personality. A match with him is going to be quite difficult.

Even if we’ve been given a handicap, it’s impossible for me. Just how many critical hits would I need just to break through a demon’s defence…?

I had considered being the one to play depending on the game they presented, but for something like this I’ll leave it to Tilea-san.

“Tilea-san, could you go please?”

“Y-, Yeah. That’s fine, I guess…”

Tilea-san seemed a bit unsure. Could it be that even with her power, she’s still nervous in front of a demon?

“I’m sorry. My power isn’t enough to handle a demon. But with your――”

“No, no, there’s no need for you to play, Jessica-chan. Like we agreed earlier, you just keep a look-out for cheating.”

“I understand. Then, is there something else that you’re worried about?”

“Well, I just kinda wanted to say…”

“Yes?”

“I don’t really remember the rules, but ummm, what’s wood strong against again?”

“U-, Umm, excuse me. Could we please get a pen and paper?”

W-, Well, I guess it can’t be helped, right? Tilea-san never took lessons in this sort of stuff. Deep down I’m still feeling uneasy, but I’ve placed my hopes on her raw fighting strength.

Chapter 8 – Jessica and the Hope of the Capital

“A group of vampires has been spotted 2 kilometres behind us. Class Seven, prepare to chant!”

“”Yes!””

“Class Three is to shelter and treat the wounded. If anything happens, use my name!”

“”Understood!””

Under the President’s leadership, the other students and I have been repelling vampires and directing the citizens to shelter. All of them were terrified. After all, friends they chatted happily with, and even beloved family members suddenly bore their fangs and attacked.

People with skill wielded their prided weapons against the vampires, but the tide of the battle wasn’t to our favour. Not only did vampires have the numerical advantage, but their physical abilities were strengthened too, which made things that much more difficult. Had it not been for the effort the students put into fighting, and the President’s skilled instructions, we would probably have been overwhelmed in no time.

I’m just a novice with no real experience, but President rounded up students like me to hold the frontlines.

We were at a huge numerical disadvantage, and needed more fighters.

It was my first time. My first real battle.

At the beginning, my legs trembled and I was stiff with tension. But when my mana ran dry, I would drink a potion, and continued to jump back onto the battlefield. I was determined to keep going.

I repeated this over and over again.

While I was preparing for the next wave of attacks, the President came over.

“Nichol-kun, are you okay?”

“Yes. I’m a lot calmer now than I was in the beginning.”

“You don’t need to overdo it. Even if potions recover stamina and mana, there’s no helping mental exhaustion.”

“Thank you very much for the concern. But really, I’m fine.”

“This type of exhaustion is one that can go unnoticed. Just listen to me, and take a small break.”

“U-, Understood.”

At his half-forceful suggestion, I ended up nodding along.

I wanted to keep going, but it’s true that I was exhausted. Taking him up on his suggestion, I decided to rest in the base. We set up simple beds in the base, so we could take naps, and have simple meals too.

Entering the base, I looked around. Everyone looked incredibly weary.

It was hard to blame them.

Our absolute guardian Remilia-sama was absent…

The unending battles buried our hope with despair.

I sat down on a bed, closed my eyes, and had a light rest.

Ahh… I wonder what’s going to happen to me.

There was the problem with Edim and Lyris, and above all, there was the enormous pressure from the demons.

Demons…

A race with mana reserves and physical strength incomparable to humans.

Could we even win against them?

People who could beat them…

Adventurers? The Public Safety Force? Or if not, Demon Hunting Specialists?

Hmm, it’s just my intuition, but I think that even if they could defeat the small fry, people like that wouldn’t be able to beat the real demons. Is the world going to be taken over by demons at this rate?

I didn’t know if it was because of the accumulated fatigue, but my mind was filled with negativity.

Ah-!? Speaking of which, there was a person who beat the demons. Strong enough to overturn common sense.

I wonder what Tilea-san was up to right now. Did she find  Timu-chan?

Tilea-san, what a mysterious person…

She said that she was just a normal chef, but it didn’t look that way at all. With that unbelievable power, I couldn’t imagine anybody being a match for her, demon or not.

Honestly, who on earth was she?

She said that she wasn’t a hero’s descendant.

Then could it be that she was a demon? ――Hmm, but I didn’t get a negative aura from her. Should I call her simple? Or perhaps pure? The aura around her was warm and bright. She was the complete opposite of Arcyune, who was like a bundle of negativity.

I know! Tilea-san!

If it’s Tilea-san, who was bright like the sun, it would definitely be possible to clear this depressing mood.

I should go find her!

I stood up from my bed, and was about to head straight for the exit when suddenly, happy cheers broke out all around me.

“REMILIA-SAMA HAS RETURNEDDDDD!”

“Ohh, we’re saved!”

“If Remilia-sama is here, the demons are nothing to be afraid of!”

Remilia-sama returned!

Thank goodness. With this, everybody’s morale would shoot up.

“I am sorry everybody. My absence caused you trouble. I completely fell for the enemy trap.”

Saying so, Remilia-sama bowed to everybody in the base with a frustrated expression and her lip between her teeth. It was probably mortifying for her to have fallen into a trap set by the enemy.

“It isn’t your fault, Remilia-sama. We are the ones responsible for not seeing though it.”

“No, in the end, I was the one who passed the decision. I hope you will let me take responsibility through my actions.”

“Understood. With you here, we can turn this situation around.”

“Umu. I will be counting on you all for your support!”

“”Understood! Please leave it to us!””

Remilia-sama’s words naturally caused the Public Safety Force to smile with joy, and the members from the guild did so as well. While everybody was being inspired by each other’s morale, the Student President approached her.

“Remilia-sama. I am Muvordelly, the President of the Magic Academy Student Council. I am truly relieved by your safe return.”

“Oohh, so you’re that rumoured prodigy. I have heard a lot about you. It seems that in my absence you kept everybody together. I am thankful from the bottom of my heart.”

“I’m unworthy of your words.”

“I am not simply flattering you. I expect much from you in the future. Continue exerting yourself.”

“Thank you very much. Also, about the demons you were chasing. The current crisis――”

“Indeed. In retrospect, they had a tendency to abstain from engaging in battle. It seems they truly were a diversion.”

“I see. The enemy leader is quite a schemer, isn’t he.”

“Umu. Continue to take care so that you do not end up manipulated as well. First I need to confirm the situation. How goes the battle? How are things at the moment?”

“The garrison in the fort down south has been annihilated. I believe that we should consider the area to have fallen to the demons already. As for the garrisons in the east, west and north, they’ve been building up bases and protecting their respective areas like we of the Academy have. As for the Public Safety Force and Adventurers Guild, their members have been sheltering escaping citizens, as well as working to destroy the vampires. Only, every frontline has just been barely holding on, and the battle has continued to be a desperate struggle.”

“I see. I understand the situation now. Well done. You can leave the rest to me.”

“Yes. I’ll return the command of every group to you. For now I’m going to go let them all know about your return.”

“I see. I’ll be counting on you.”

“Understood.”

“Well then, everybody capable of fighting, follow me! It’s time to clean up the vampires!”

“”Understood!””

People from the Guild and Safety Force cheered at her commands, and everybody’s morale reached their peaks.

“Remilia! Wait!”

“W-, Why if it isn’t My Lord, the King. What brings you to such a place as――”

At the sudden appearance of His Lordship, the King, everybody knelt on the spot.

“Be at ease, Remilia. I have already played my cards.”

“Oohh. And may I ask, what cards might those be?” she immediately questioned.

His Lordship was well known for his intelligence and ability. Because of that, everybody else seemed to be waiting expectantly as well.

“The elimination of the vampires shall be left to Decarabia[Demon Destroying Pentragram].”

“Please excuse my words, but what is Decarabia[Demon Destroying Pentragram]?”

“A secret institution of the Royal Capital. From this moment, the Public Safety Force shall defer to their command. I have already relayed this to all members of Decarabia[Demon Destroying Pentragram].”

“H-, However, something like this, and so suddenly is――”

“Remilia. There is no room for argument. I have already decided, and will not accept objections. Do you understand!”

“Y-, Yessir.”

Remilia-sama and everyone else were visibly shocked about this unheard of organisation. Had I not already heard of them, I’d have reacted the same way.

Lyris-chan, just who on earth are you…?

After His Lordship left the area, a man in priest’s clothing appeared before us. He looked about forty, and had a large build and sharp gaze. And he was equipped just like Lyris-chan and Vera-san were.

“I’m Gaban Alec. The King has probably explained already that you lot are under my command. I’ll have you listen obediently from now on.”

“W-, What was that!? I’ve never even heard of Decarabia[Demon Destroying Pentragram]. Even if the King said so, why do we need to listen to your commands!”

“Yeah, yeah. Our leader is Remilia-sama!”

It began with the Public Safety Force, but soon the members of the Adventurers Guild, and then students of our Academy began erupting in complaint as well.

“Hmm. I have no time to deal with your meaningless pride. From this moment on, all those who refuse to obey me shall be treated as rebels against the king, and punished accordingly.”

“Y-, You…”

“S-, So cowardly.”

“Everyone, it is as Alec-dono says. If you disobey the King’s orders, it cannot be helped if they label you a traitor. From this moment on, we will abide by Alec-dono’s instructions.”

Remilia-sama stepped in front of the blatantly unhappy group, and said that with prudence. Because of everybody’s trust in her, just her few words were enough to deal with the complaints.

“Your name was Remilia, wasn’t it. Well said. I’ll have you guys evacuate the citizens, and protect them from vampire attacks during the process.”

“Yessir. We will abide by your instructions, however, I would like to inform you that the demons that my team gave chase to have likely returned to the capital. I had my subordinates keep a lookout, but I fear that they will take action before long. If it happens, I believe it may be best if I tagged along.”

“No need. You have no idea of their battle power. It is impossible to defeat them in a frontal confrontation. Only we of Decarabia[Demon Destroying Pentragram] can kill them.”

“H-, However, would it not be better if you had more fighting power with you?”

“Enough. You lot lack the strength. At best you would just slow us down.”

“W-, What did you say to her! We Safety Force members protect the capital, and you’re going to insult us, huh!”

“Yeah! No matter who you are, that’s absolutely unforgivable!”

“Stop it, everyone! Alec-dono, please desist with your provocations! And moreover, if you are going to say that much, I would like to see proof of your strength. Though I, Remilia, am unworthy, I shall be your opponent!”

Remilia-sama drew her sword and swung it before his eyes.

“Honestly, this Public Safety Force is nothing but a short-tempered bunch with no real ability. Not only that, a bunch of novices are even calling themselves ‘Court Wizard’. And the best part is that a bunch of brats from school are mistaking a battlefield for a fucking festival!”

“YOU BASTARD! TAKE THAT BACK! Remilia-sama, pay his words no need, and please cut him down. It’s no big deal. The King will forgive us if he realises how weak this man is.”

“Exactly. In fact, Remilia-sama need not even go herself. I will――”

Aahh, why did this happen!

To defeat the demons we need to throw away our differences and unite. But instead these people were busy fighting amongst themselves. Even though at best of times, there was still a huge difference in ability between demons and humans…

These people wouldn’t do.

I decided to sneak out of the encampment and go look for Tilea-san.

I would bet the future of the Capital on her.

Tilea-san? Tilea-san, where did you go?

While shouting, I searched the Capital for her. But no matter how long I searched, all I found were evacuees and vampires.

There were so many people. It might be impossible to find her.

Mm~mmn, I couldn’t give up. Tilea-san was the hope of the Capital.

With renewed resolve, I continued to look for Tilea-san. While calling her name, I checked inside buildings, outside, and all around for her. On the way, I was attacked by vampires, but I somehow managed to fight them off with magic.

Tilea-san, Tilea-san…

Jessica-chan, Jessica-chan…

Mn!? I think I heard my name…

I decided to listen carefully.

“Jessica-chan? Jessica-chan, where are you? If you’re there, please say something!”

It was Tilea-san’s voice!

Thank goodness. I’d finally found her! And if she was looking for me, did that mean she had found Timu-chan?

“Jessica-chan, I’m so sorry. Hic-, have the vampires already gotten youu?”

“Tilea-saaaan! It’s Jessica! I’m here!”

I shouted as loud as I could in her direction, and waved my hands. It looked like she spotted me too, and she began running my way.

After we made sure of each other’s safety, for a while we just hugged.

“Jessica-chan. Thank goodness. Thank goodness you’re still safe.”

“I should be the one saying ‘thank goodness’. You found Timu-chan, right?”

According to Tilea-san, Timu-chan is under the protection of the Public Safety Force. And after the relief of Timu-chan’s safety, she remembered that she left me alone, and came looking for me. Even though we only met last night, she worried so much about me. It kind of makes me happy. She kept apologising again and again for forgetting me, but I told her there wasn’t anything to apologise for.

I mean, anybody would prioritise their beloved sister over a stranger. I could tell just how much she cared about her.

“Hahh~ But I’m really so glad that I found you, Jessica-chan. All that’s left is to meet up with Timu, and then wait out this mess.”

“Eh-? You aren’t going to fight the demons, Tilea-san?”

“Uu~ It’s true that I know their weakness but… I’m still just a regular person. I think we should leave the rest to the Public Safety Force.”

“There’s no way that you’re a regular person! Please, rise to the occasion. For the future of the Capital.”

“E-, Even if you say that… No, y-, you’re right. As a citizen of this country, I have to let the Safety Force know about the weaknesses.”

“N-, No, that’s not what I meant. You see, I want you to take the lead and――”

“FOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUND YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!”

“Wha-!? E-, Edim!”

“Heh? Edim, you say?”

“I’m here to avenge Arcyune-sama. DIEEEEEEEE!”

T-, This was bad. Edim was trying to suck Tilea-san’s blood. I needed to stop her, but I was too far.

I-, It’s no good. I won’t make it.

I saw her fangs close in on Tilea-san’s neck.

Aah-, Tilea-san was going to be controlled by the vampires.

This was the end. If Tilea-san became a vampire, there wouldn’t be any way left to stop them.

Just as I was stricken by despair,

“Jessica-chan, is this person your friend?”

“Eh-, w-, why? Ah-, yes, she’s my friend but, u-, umm, Tilea-san, don’t you feel anything? I mean, look, your neck is――”

“Huh? UWAH! Vampire! Ah-, I-, did I get bitten? Aaahh… Jessica-chan, before I turn into a monster, you have to throw the kukan―― Hm? It doesn’t hurt, though?”

“W-, Why? Why won’t my fangs pierce!?”

Edim was trying to thrust her fangs into Tilea-san’s neck, but it was like she was being blocked by some thick wall. Could it be a mana eddy?

“Huhu, I see.”

“Tilea-san?”

“Edim, was it? I’ll tell you why your fangs didn’t pierce me.”

“W-, Why! Tell me why!”

“You see, it’s not that you couldn’t bite me. It’s that you subconsciously didn’t want to. That inner conflict is proof that you still have a human heart, Edim.”

“Impossible! That’s impossible! I’ve offered my heart to Arcyune-sama, to the demon race. Watch me!”

Angered by Tilea-san’s words, Edim swooped in and tried biting her neck here and there. But it didn’t seem to work at all.

“It won’t work. You don’t want to become a monster in front of your best friend. It’s because you secretly feel that way, right?”

“Eh-, is that true, Edim?”

“Haha, idiocy! You two have pissed me off. I’ll suck every drop dry.”

“Huhu, even if you say that, your heart is being honest. Have you sucked even a drop of my blood all this time? Come on, Jessica. You say something too. You need to make her remember your friendship.”

“D-, DON’T MAKE FUN OF MEE! DIEEE! W-, Why won’t it work. Who on earth are you…”

Edim became even more vicious, and tried biting down again. But her teeth couldn’t pierce Tilea-san’s skin, and the only effect was the sounds of collisions resounding throughout the area.

Tilea-san said that Edim was hesitating because she still had her heart as a human, but no matter how I saw it, it was just because Tilea-san was too solid.

And then…

“GUHAH-, AAHGHHH!”

I heard a scream. It looks like Edim’s tooth had finally fallen out. To think that her skin was harder than a vampire’s fang…

Haha, Tilea-san, you’re just too amazing.

“It looks like you’re finally being honest with yourself.”

“No, no, Tilea-san. Look down. Down. It’s because Edim’s tooth fell out.”

“Down? It’s true. There’s a tooth, isn’t there. Meaning… I see! So Edim’s finally free from the vampire’s curse!”

“Eh-? Tilea-san, I think that’s a little off.”

“No, no. I see this kind of thing all the time in manga and anime. Jessica-chan, isn’t that great? It looks like your best friend has become a human again.”

Mahn Gahh? Anni Meh? What’s that?

As usual, I had no idea what she was saying, but that aside, was it true that Edim was back to normal?

If something like that was true, could there be anything happier? But it was probably another one of her misunderstandings. Still, looking at Edim cry after having her tooth broken really was pitiful. No matter what she’d become, it still hurt to see my best friend sad like this.

“Uuu-, ah.. Uuukuh-… mai toofsh… mai faeng… uuu, thish is too much…”

“You don’t have to cry. Jessica-chan forgives you, you know. You were just being manipulated by the demons. Don’t blame yourself so much.”

“I… I hafsh no idea what yoor shaying… Uu, mai fang…”

Aahh, Tilea-san’s misunderstandings are endless.

“Tilea-san, we――”

“Yeah, you’re right. We should give her some time to herself. She’s probably filled with self-loathing right now. But I’m sure that with time, she’ll recover.”

“R-, Right. Tilea-san, thank you very much for stopping Edim.”

“What are you saying! I didn’t do a thing. Edim was freed from the curse because of her own strength, and the power of your friendship.”

“I-, I see.”

Anyway, I hope Edim would stay put like this. No matter what happened in-between, the end result was that Tilea-san stopped Edim from her violence. She really was so amazing.

“Tilea-san, about what I was talking about before. Please defeat the de――”

“O-, Oh no. Jessica-chan, hide over here.”

“What’s the matter, all of a sudden?”

“Look! Some kind of red monster thing is wandering about.”

“Y-, You’re right. And in huge numbers too… Are they… demons?”

“I’m sure they are. Hurry, before they find us… let’s hide in that ruin over there!”

“Y-, Yes. But if you would just fight them head on-”

“What are you saying! There’s just too many of them. I might have picked up a few kukanomi, but after I run out of them, all I have left is the cross.”

“I-, I see… Hahh… But…”

“Anyway, we need to go inside.”

Tilea-san urged me into the ruin.”

“FU HA HA HA HA! Gentlemen, it looks like another guest has come.”

“Here’s to hoping that the new ones have a bit more skill than the last.”

Wha-!? Demons!

A number of demons were waiting inside the ruin.

An ambush!

I turned around and was about to leave, but,

“Aahh, wait a moment. Even if you leave, only a boring end awaits you.”

“Jessica-chan, we should do as they say. For now, just keep your guard up. Here, I’ll give you a kukanomi.”

After accepting a kukanomi from Tilea-san, we turned to face them.

“Nice spirit. Had you still tried to run, I would have killed you on the spot.”

“You’re still going to kill us even if we don’t run, right? Well? What now? A battle?”

“Now, now, calm down. I am one of the Four Knights of the Malferands[Greatest Demons], Horus, the Wisdom General and my units governs over the wisdom of the Malferands[Greatest Demons]. I wish to play a game with you.”

“A game?”

“Indeed. But no mere game. A game of life and death. Of course, being a game, the possibility of death exists for us as well.”

“W-, Why would you do something with no merits for yourself?”

“It’s obvious that in a fight you would have no chance of winning. We fought with some humans earlier, but it was so one-sided that I lost interest. So I thought that we would give you humans a chance as well. But my subordinates and I are the unit known for its wisdom. As such, we will overwhelm you not with battle, but with wit.”

“I see. A bit of a time-killer for you demons, huh. Could you let me talk with Jessica for a little?”

“Very well. Come up with whatever strategies you want. Just make sure not to think of escaping or attacking us by surprise. If you ruin our game, we will show you no mercy.”

A threat from Horus. But if you looked at it another way, as long as we played their game, we would be safe from death for a while. We began to discuss the offer.

“Jessica-chan, this is our chance. Even if we have the kukanomi and cross, there are just too many variables in a battle and we can’t tell how things will go. But a game is a matter of the mind. It’s possible to outplay them. Let’s decrease their numbers through the game first!”

“B-, But, we have no idea what kind of game they――”

“Jessica-chan. It’s true that there’s a possibility that they’ll try to cheat somehow. There’s also the chance that they’ll attack us in a rage if they start to lose. That’s why while I play, I want you to keep a close eye as the lookout. If anything happens, use the kukanomi to give me a moment to get ready for battle as well.”

“Tilea-san, that kind of strategy hinges on the assumption that we’ll win the game. But there’s no proof that we will.”

“Haven’t I said this before? I’m in possession of some special knowledge. I’ve read all sorts of things, like Akagin or Kaijin the Gambler. Because of that, I don’t have any blind spots. By now, none of their plans are anything more than cute tricks to me. Poker, mahjong, I’m ready for anything.”

“Umm, I really do think it would be better if you just fought normally, but…”

“Huhu, Jessica-chan, games are my number one specialty, you know?”

Aahh, Tilea-san is running wild again. I have to stop her somehow! I absolutely can’t let her use her head.

“Are your discussions finished?”

“Yes. Im going to show you just how deep human intellect flows.”

“Ku ku. Very interesting. Then show me what you have.”

At the orders of Horus, the Wisdom General, his subordinates came down to face us. I had no idea what kind of game we’d to be playing, but a battle in Tilea-san’s number one weakness was already beginning.

OH WOW IS SHE PICKING IT UP WOW OH GOSH DAMN WOW!

Drop!! ~A Tale of the Fragrance Princess~
ドロップ!! ~香りの令嬢物語~

Short summary of the premise

A noble girl is born between an estranged couple, for the sole purpose of getting into the young Prince’s good books. When she’s about three years old, she suddenly regains vague memories of a past life.
Naturally(lol) she’s destined to be an executed villainess and whatnot, so she vows to stay the fuck away from the Prince.
Also naturally, this leads to her father slapping her in the fucking face, but using her isekai wiles, she charms her ruthless and cold father into completely doting on her.

And so like that, instead of socialising with the Prince like all the other girls and boys her age, she continues to reject invitations to the palace and spends her time researching the magical properties of weeds and herbs and stuff.

Why you should translate it

  • Despite some parts of it seemingly coming out of nowhere (for example, the whole magical weeds research stuff), the world is generally thought out pretty well.
  • The strict father and her interactions with him are pretty interesting, and he doesn’t seem to be that bad a guy. Just really devoted to his job as a noble.
  • It’s written in third person.
  • The tone is a bit less ‘bubbly’ and a bit more ‘serious’ as a result, although it still boils down to a little girl(?) exploring the new world.
  • Again, is a typical ‘reincarnated villainess’ story, that’s slightly atypical in that it isn’t a completely transfer of her previous life’s ego and memories, and more atypical in that it’s not 1st person.
Enough of her new self remains that she still feels the childish loneliness of being hated by her mother for example.
  • Kind of looking forward to her interactions with the prince and their mutual friend.
  • Looking forward to more of her interactions with her father. She starts off as a faker, but ends up really liking him. Apparently he’s her type now.

Why you might not want to translate it

  • It’s yet another ‘reincarnated villainess’ story
  • The whole ‘plant research’ thing feels a little random. I guess the author is just really into perfume and potpourri.
  • It’s written in third person, and isn’t at all bubbly in its tone.

Possible difficulties in translating

  • Simple 3rd person narration

TLDR; Mildly atypical reincarnated villainess story with a less hyperactive tone than many of its peers. The girl is really into perfumes and mints and stuff, and the setting was interesting enough that I wanted to learn more about her family and surroundings.
