Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 4

Chapter 4 – “I was hit by my little sister”

I turned to Timu and sternly scolded her, but for some reason the atmosphere is a little strange.
The members who were about to leave earlier all turned back and began surrounding me.

Their stares are painful. Are they angry?

No, it would be better to call it bloodlust.

Why?

――――Ohh, crap!

Today’s gathering was for the Demon King Revival Event. Everyone had completely changed into their characters for the event. You could say that all the participants were acting as realistically as possible. In particular, that armoured man’s speech had enough impact that it wouldn’t be strange even if you called it the real thing.

In this perfectly acted world, I barged in with reality. With this many people attending, there’s bound to be some chuunibyou participants mixed in, but the majority of them might actually be people who normally work seriously, and who participated as their only enjoyment.

And among the participants are dragonoids and birdmen as well. They’re not races that live in this area. They probably travelled from far, far away for this event. In the face of these people, my remark just now was clearly a breach of manners.

What do I do…?

I’ve really wrecked the world they’ve created, haven’t I?

While I was regretting having caused everybody trouble,

“Human. You have done well finding this place. For you to have broken through two layers of barriers is…”

said the armoured man to me.

Ohhh! I see!

He’s making it so that my intrusion here is part of the event too, isn’t it?

Good job, armoured man!

Geez~ When I first saw this man in armour I was thinking “So much cringe…” but then why is he…

From his attention to detail and his demeanour, it might be that this armoured man is actually a wholesale store manager, or the president of a company. Even in an event like this he’s taking his role seriously, so there’s a good chance of it being true.

“Kill them! Kill the human!”

“Kihihi… I’ll make you cry nicely.”

“Hyahhaa, my first human meat in a while!”

In response to the armoured man, the people around made an uproar. The event participants had begun acting as the Demon King Army’s soldiers.

Mn, mn. It seems that everybody has understood the situation, huh? Everybody can read the mood. And the acting is amazing. This atmosphere really feels like I’m going to get torn apart. In particular, that beastman drooling with his mouth hanging open looks like he’s going to bite into me at any second.

I can’t lose to them either. Right now my role is that of the hero who entered the barriers of the Demon King Army. Given that, how should I act from now on…?

While I was considering various lines, Timu walked briskly before me.

“I don’t know how you found this place, but you sure are a fool!”

“Timu…”

If I remember correctly, the setting was that she was the Demon General Camilla, right?

Huhu, her realistic acting is so cute. But you know, playtime is over. It’s time to go home now.

“Human, even if only temporarily, you were my elder sister. I will at least give you a painless death.”

“Heh? What do you mea――wh-, wah?”

Timu drew a knifehand to my neck at a speed that seemed to leave a flash.

The sound of an impact resounded through the room――――

But, the knifehand was stopped soundly by my neck.

“I-, Impossible!? The strike that I put my mana into was…”

Timu panicked as though something impossible had happened.

“Surely you did not show mercy to them?”

“Viceroy, that is an insult to me. I put in enough power to even bisect a dragon!”

“Is that true?”

“I-, Impossible…”

“Camilla of the Flash is pathetic!”

The people around us began to loudly make a fuss.

I could feel something fall straight to the ground inside me.

Timu hit me.

And it hurt quite a bit too. It might have left a bruise on my neck.

With my little sister acting violently towards me for the first time, I was stricken with shock.

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 3

Chapter 3 – “I am the Demon General Camilla”

My name is Camilla Bo Malferand, one of the Six Demon Generals who serve Demon King Zorg directly.
With Zorg-sama as our leader, we, the Demon Army, destroyed many living beings in the previous war, and dropped people into the deepest depths of terror.
The soldiers of the royal capital, S-ranked adventurers, the various heroes, those called rulers; we killed them all. The people wailed in despair, and we believed that the glory of our Demon Army would forever continue, but――――

Ku-, to think that we would end up being sealed by those detestable gods!

Indeed, on that day, the gods all worked together and turned their blades to us, and not only Zorg-sama, but all powerful members of the Demon Army had their souls sealed by the gods.
Moreover, our bodies as demons were destroyed, and our souls were sealed in the bodies of humans, beastmen, and other exceptionally inferior species.

What disgrace!

And those who were not sealed were destroyed even to the soul, and our Demon Army was literally erased.

Hu hu, it has been several thousand years, and even those sealed souls escaped from their bindings. Many fell victim to those detestable gods in the previous war, but we’ve finally revived.

Thinking back on it, ever since the time that I lived as a frail human, there was a sense of discomfort in the corner of my mind. My memories as a demon that I tried to, but couldn’t recall.

And then, I finally remembered. I was not a puny existence such as a human. I was a demon; an absolute conqueror, an existence who could with but a brief show of their power, crush and destroy any and all beings.

I had woken up a few days ago as Demon General Camilla. At any rate, I have only just awakened.
So that I could get used to this body, and collect information about the outside world, I stayed low and acted with my temporary family.

But, I have reached my limit!

Despite being a puny existence, that Tilea human knew no discretion. She would readily touch me. I even considered killing her, but I was concerned about the state of the gods so it wasn’t prudent to be conspicuous, and so I suppressed my anger.

These last few days, I had been sneaking out in the shadow of the night, and getting in touch with my earlier awakened kin. According to their information, those gods had not lived through the war unscathed, and lost a great deal of their power, and presently those gods are as good as powerless.

It is a good time, isn’t it. My retainers have all awakened.

It seems that today, as the right hand of Zorg-sama and the one who controls the Six Demon Generals, Viceroy Hidler will be giving everybody their orders in Pinedelia Cave. Under the banner of Zorg-sama, it is the revival of the Demon Army.

My heart dances with joy. While I was unable to suppress the excitement in my heart, that human touched me again.

“Ti~mu, is this where you were? It’s time to help out at the shop, you know?”

And overfamiliar voice. I no longer have any reason to hide my identity.

“Human, choose your words wisely! I am one of the Six Demon Generals under Demon King Zorg, Camilla!”

Fear me! Shudder as much as you like!

I let out my overpowering killing intent.

“Timu…”

Hmph, it seems that she’s petrified from my overwhelming power. There is no human that can take my killing intent and stay themselves. I am surprised that she did not die from shock on the spot, but I have only just revived, so I am probably not at my best.

“Hmph. Well, no matter. Today is one that should be celebrated, for my kin have all awakened. Out of mercy, I shall spare your life!”

Indeed. I care not for the life of a single human. Here begins the Demon Army’s trampling of the world. It is merely a difference of dying today, or dying tomorrow. Without spending my fangs on some puny existence, I headed for Pinedelia Cave.

Hu hu hu, running once in a while is nice too. In the previous war, I rode my kin, the magic beast Gargan and rampaged freely in all directions. My magic beast Gargan has revived as well, and I can ride it, but it is on standby. From now on I will work them hard whether they wish it or not. I shall let them rest for today at least.

――――After running for a while, I strangely felt a gaze.

Am I being tailed?

I turned my head, but nobody was there.

Am I being targetted by an S rank adventurer or the like?

No, unless they are a demon like me, and moreover at the level of a Demon General, following me would be impossible.

Is it my imagination…?

Hmm. I have only just awakened. The pressure I emitted earlier was lacking after all, so I am probably not in my normal condition.

Having come to that conclusion, I headed to the cave where my companions awaited.

When I entered the cave, some familiar people appeared. The demonic birdman Bard, and the demonic dragonoid Drag were there as well. The distinguished upper members of the Demon Army had gathered.

“Camilla, we’ve been waiting!”

The powerful voice of the Viceroy resounded through the surroundings. As always, it is a majestic voice. And moreover, overflowing mana is being emitted from the Viceroy’s armour. Even though the Viceroy has only just awakened, he has more mana that in the previous war. Without using mana to probe I can’t really say, but my guess is that he has over 50% more power than at the time of the previous war.

“Your mana is powerful as always, Viceroy.”

“Our dearest wish is almost here, after all. My training has been enthusiastic.”

“Then it is truth that Zorg-sama’s revival is close at hand?”

“Indeed. With good timing, everyone has gathered. I’m about to speak of the details.”

The Viceroy gathered everyone in the clearing. I quickly lined up as well. The Viceroy spoke of how Zorg-sama’s revival was close, and how with the revival, we would need human sacrifices.
Finally, the Viceroy gave a command, and the many demons departed to attack the important locations of the human side.

And then, my Camilla Unit was given the mission of destroying the most important location of all; the royal capital. My subordinates and I can run wild for the first time in thousands of years. While I was secretly excited, one human suddenly came and stood before us.

“Ah~ Hello, I’m Timu’s older sister, Tilea. It seems that lately you’ve been kind enough to let Timu play with you.”

“…”

Because of this sudden situation, even the Viceroy and I were lost for words. And then, that human turned to me, and,

“Timu! What happened to helping out at the store!? I’m not saying that you can’t play at all. But you need to do the things you’re supposed to!”

of all things, she began to lecture me.

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 2

Timu

Chapter 2 – “Demon General Camilla? Who’s that?”

“Timu…”

My beloved little sister suddenly suffered an outbreak of chuunibyou. I froze from the shock.

“Hmph. Well, no matter. Today is one that should be celebrated, for my kin have all awakened. Out of mercy, I shall spare your life!”

After spewing out that arrogant line, Timu walked outside looking extremely disinterested.

This is bad.

What did Timu say?

Demon King! And Six Demon Generals!

And it seems that she’s even come up with a position for herself that cuts straight to the point. From my experience, Timu is probably obsessed with this right now. If I don’t immediately take action, Timu’s future is in danger. To chase her down, I leapt out of the house.

Where did she go?

I looked around to find her.

Found her! She’s gotten pretty far, huh~

Timu was already about to leave the town. I thought I had immediately jumped out of the house, but it seems that was wrong. The time probably passed while I was in shock. Having figured it out, I observed Timu. It seems that Timu is going somewhere.

Should I chase her down and call out?

No, wait. If I’m not wrong, she said ‘kin’.

Is she meeting with somebody?

Maybe Timu has made friends with some other chuunibyou. Rather, it might be the influence of her new friends that caused this…

Mn, that’s definitely it.

I decided to stealthily follow her. If she has friends with chuunibyou as well, then just lecturing her isn’t enough after all. I need to fix those friends as well, or else!

I followed Timu from a few hundred metres back so that she wouldn’t notice. Once in a while Timu would look back though, and making sure I didn’t get caught was really tough. I constantly hid in the shadows of buildings while I moved.

But gee, Timu sure is fast, huh~

While I was maintaining the distance, it seems that we’d crossed over a mountain before I’d noticed. I’ve never gone past Mt. Beruga like this, you know?

No matter what, isn’t this too fast?

In terms of car speed, I feel like we’re going 60 kilometres an hour. Could it be, that we’re actually doing something really ama――――no, no, no, there’s no way that’s true. I almost had a relapse.

Mm~n, I accidentally had a chuuni kind of thought just like my old life.

This is one of those!

Where I’m thinking it’s strange because I was considering things from my old life’s sense of values. That’s it. In this world, isn’t it obvious that everybody is fast!? We don’t have any cars after all, and our movement is basically all on foot, so it’s natural that our legs are trained. And 60 kilometres an hour is just how it feels. It’s not like I’m actually using a machine to measure it. It’s probably actually an ordinary pace. Because I’m stuck with the sense from my old world, it feels fast to me. After assenting to this, I followed after Timu.

Even so, Timu probably counts as one of the faster people in this world. Even though Timu is only 14 years old and doesn’t move much, she’s running as fast as me; a cook that trains hard every day. If she trained, she might make it in life as an athlete.

Only, I’m not sure if this world has the concept of sports. At any rate, my lifestyle involves nothing but cooking so I’m quite ignorant about this world. My parents are both completely into cooking as well after all, and in this small town, which would really be better called the countryside, there’s no good flow of information.
If this world does have sports, then I want to make Timu do it. I think that exercising healthily will cure her chuunibyou after all.

While I was thinking about all this, it seems that we’ve arrived at the destination. Timu just walked straight into a large cave.

Ohh~? So there was a cave in a place like this…

From a glance, it seemed to be just a normal cave. What’s different was that there was a gorgeous door placed in front, and on each side were ominous statues.

Mm~mm, from what I can tell, it completely smells of chuuni. There’s no doubt that Timu’s companions are in here. And what’s more, it seems that these companions of her are rich. The hobbies of the rich…

I’m sure they’re selfish ones. I’m going to break my back convincing them.

But, I can’t get scared here. For Timu’s sake, I gathered my courage and entered the cave. The inside of the cave is dim and looks exactly where a monster would live. They did an excellent job in finding such a suitable place. I’m honestly praising the proactivity of this chuunibyou patient.

I searched further into the cave. When I got further in, just how many hundreds of people were there? A huge crowd of people was lined up before one man. With everybody’s attention on him, the man was clad completely in armour, and this too was an extremely cliched appearance. I stealthily eavesdropped on the fully armoured man.

“Everybody, the long-awaited day comes to us at last!”

” ” “YEAHHHHHH!” ” ”

Because of the armoured man’s words, the surrounding people all screamed excitedly at once.

Huh? Huh? Could it be that some sort of hobby event is being held today?

I judged the crazy enthusiasm to be as intense as the concerts in my old world. So there were these kinds of cosplay parties in this world as well, huh?

When I looked about the inside of the cave, I found that beastmen, and birdmen and people of all types of appearances were gathered here. But still, just when did Timu find out about this event? Lately I’ve been immersing myself in my cooking after all… I’m reflecting on the fact that I didn’t notice Timu’s change.

……

…………

………………

The man’s speech continued.

“Zorg-sama’s revival is at hand. We must reform our armies immediately.”

” “It is as you say. Please instruct us!” ”

“Very well. Then go forth! Offer living sacrifices to Zorg-sama! We will destroy the humans!”

” “Sir! All for the sake of the great Zorg-sama, Milord!!” ”

Once the speech was finished, most of the people around the armoured man left. The ones remaining were just the armoured man, Timu, and about ten others.

“Yose. How is the present state of the Six Demon Generals?”

“Sir. As of present, among the Six Demon Generals, only Luxembourg-sama and Poe-sama have not awakened.”

“Hmm. There are individual differences when it comes to the awakening. It cannot be helped. The destruction of the royal capital will be carried out by Camilla.”

“My unit alone is plenty!”

Timu declared this, brimming with ambition and power. That remark, that tone, and more than anything, that bewitching smile as she flicked her hair back pulled her surroundings into a whirlpool of charm.

――――Hah-! No good, no good!

They spoke so believably about everything that I ended up getting drawn in. It seems they’re planning some kind of interesting event, huh. There’s magic in this world after all, so I’m sure it’ll be even more fun than the events in my old world.

Timu seemed somewhat really onboard with it, so for a moment I even ended up thinking that it really wasn’t Timu, but the Demon General Camilla. Timu definitely has talent as an actress.

…But, right now as her older sister, I have to clearly scold her. Skipping out on helping with the store, and playing around at this hour is a problem. As I thought, when chuunibyou gets too extreme, no good can come out of it.

I stepped forward from behind the rock, and gallantly headed down to the clearing where Timu’s group was gathered.

“Ah~ Hello, I’m Timu’s older sister, Tilea. It seems that lately you’ve been kind enough to let Timu play with you.”

“…”

I gave the armoured man a light nod, and conveyed my thanks. And then I turned to Timu and,

“Timu! What happened to helping out at the store!? I’m not saying that you can’t play at all. But you need to do the things you’re supposed to!”

told her that very clearly.

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 1

Tilea

Chapter 1 – “My little sister became a chuunibyou!”

Right now it’s been over ten years since I was reincarnated. I was reincarnated as a female. My name is Tilea. This year I’ll turn 17. Because I have memories of being a man, there were a lot of inconveniences, but I’m already used to it. As for my appearance, you could say that with the silky hair that runs down to my waist, my big double-eyelidded eyes, and a somewhat dignified atmosphere, I’m a bishoujo.

And my family runs a restaurant. The name of the shop is 『Berum』. The name comes from playing around with the name of the town I was born in, Beruga. Restaurant 『Berum』 is the only restaurant in town, and everybody in town says that it’s delicious. That reputation is all thanks to Dad. Dad’s skill in cooking is exceptional. I want to hurry up and be able to cook food that people admire as well, so each day I exert myself in my cooking training.

In my old life I was a super useless guy that didn’t even do his housework properly, but right now a few dishes in the restaurant are being left to me. It’s because of Dad’s strict but warm guidance. Dad is a respectable person who’s not only reliable, but has good cooking skills. And Mum is somebody you can respect as well. She supports her inflexible cook of a husband, and is a gentle person who is considerate of others.

And, I have a younger sister who’s three years younger than me. Her name is Timu, and I’m not sure if it was a sudden mutation, but unlike my parents and I, she has silver hair.

Anyway, her silver hair is beautiful. Sometimes it catches the light of the sun and sparkles, and I unconsciously end up looking at it in a daze. I’ve been taking care of Timu since she was young. Timu goes “Oneechan, Oneechan” at every chance, and anyway, she’ s just cute! I’m not sure if it’s the recoil effect from being an only child in my previous life, but I’m particularly affectionate with Timu.

I love my family right now, and I want to master cooking. That’s why even though this is a parallel fantasy universe, I don’t think about going on adventures or anything at all. There’s no meaning to that.

And moreover, there’s no demon king in this world. It seems that there was one in the distant past. He was called Demon King Zorg, and he was ripped into pieces and was destroyed by humans, beastmen, dragonoids and the other people who lived there. It’s a completely standard story, and is what you’d call a fairy tale. I guess even in parallel worlds, you get things like this.

In my old world as well there were stories about oni and kappa after all; things you’d call myths and folklore. The people of this world seem to believe in the demon king, proportional to the amount of scientific advancement they’re missing, but because I have the knowledge of science from my old world, it doesn’t really fit with me. It’s probable that a powerful elf or beastmen was called the demon king.

That’s why there’s no fantasy-esque setting of the hero defeating the demon king. Adventurers don’t go dungeon raiding either, and their main job is hunting wild animals called magic beasts. It might be more on the mark to call them hunters, rather than adventurers. No matter how much magic we can use, there’s not much romance or dreams in this world.

But well, had I suffered an outbreak of chuunibyou like I had in my previous life, I’d have probably gleefully become an adventurer and travelled the world though, huh? Right now my dream is to be a normal cook who loves her family, to continually refine my cooking, and to help Restaurant 『Berum』 prosper.

And I was living a fulfilling everyday life and heading towards that dream, but…

Lately something’s been troubling me.

Actually, it’s about my cute little sister, Timu. Even though she used to go “Oneechan, Oneechan” so much, these last few days she’s been oddly distant.

I do think that I went a little overboard with the skinship as well, yesterday, but anyway, when I was rubbing her cheeks and saying “Timu, you’re so cute and healthy today as well!”, she wordlessly brushed me away.

Is this what they call the rebellious phase?

Kuh~! This is too sad!

What do I do if Timu ignores me today as well? The more I think about it, the worse my anxiety is getting. Would it be better if I gave her some room for a while? No, at times like these, you have to act normally, right?

I made up my mind, and decided to call out to Timu.

“Ti~mu, is this where you were? It’s time to help out at the shop, you know?”

“Human, choose your words wisely! I am one of the Six Demon Generals under Demon King Zorg, Camilla!”

H-, How could this be…

My little sister suffered a chuunibyou outbreak.

Tilea’s Worries – Prologue

I like misunderstanding comedies, but only when they have enough believability. Incidentally, the best done one I can remember over the last few years is this for me. That cafe scene.

https://mangadex.org/chapter/63588/1

Prologue

“Tilea, three fried rices please.”

“Comingggg.”

Receiving the order I headed into the kitchen, and brought out my carefully maintained, and favourite kitchen knife. It’s just a cast iron knife, but it’s my prided and beloved knife. Using this, I finely chopped vegetables similar to spring onion, lettuce, and carrots into fine pieces.
Next I spread oil in the pot, and mixed in rice and egg with the chopped vegetables from earlier, and put it all through the heat. The fire was strong and shaking the pot so that it wouldn’t burn was the trick to it. After putting in our secret spices for flavour, I completed my parallel world fried rice.

I can smell a delicious fragrance. Newly made and still piping hot, I delivered it to the customer.

“Thank you for waiting.”

“Oh! The smell is making me hungry.”

The guest received the plate and began vigorously digging into it.

“Ah, ah, hot, mn, yummy, yummy.”

Noisily and heartily wolfing down the food, the plate was empty in an instant.

“That was great. Today’s was delicious as well, Tilea-chan.”

“Thank you as always.”

I politely bowed, and tidied up the completely empty plate.

Phew, I’ve been working hard today as well, huh.

Seeing the customers happily wolf down the food I spent so much effort cooking makes me so happy that I can’t bear it. There’s nothing happier than being a cook.
You can say that right now I’m living a fulfilling life every day. It makes me keenly realise just how useless I was in my past life.

I have memories of my past life. As the slang goes in Japanese circles, I’m a reincarnater. I was called Shioda Tetsuya in my old life, and I was a Japanese guy born to an extremely normal household. But, as it often is with us reincarnaters, I lived an unhappy life, and passed away from the world in despair as a 33-year-old jobless virgin. I didn’t work, and lived as what you’d call a NEET, completely inconveniencing my parents.

Moreover, because I suffered from the Middle Schooler Syndrome; Chuunibyou, I was pretty hard to deal with. I always thought that I was a special human; that I had some special power and would be entrusted with a mission. So I never thought about studying hard for exams, or working to pay for food. I looked down on people who busied themselves working hard.

As you’d expect, I was bullied at school and then stopped going, and couldn’t even get a job. In the end I was abandoned by my parents, and having fallen halfway into self-abandonment, I was hit by a truck and died.
Even when I was hit, I half believed that because I was a special person I couldn’t die, so I really was beyond help. It was only when I was carried into the hospital with one foot in the grave that I opened my eyes.

I wasn’t special. I realised that I only convinced myself that I was special to run away whenever things got tough. I wanted to do it all over.

I wanted this time, to live a life that I wouldn’t regret.

With these strong feelings of regret, my consciousness faded…

And when I awakened, I had become a baby.

Eh? Huh? What is this?

is not what I thought.

Because I was a chuunibyou, I indulged myself in reading all sorts of manga and novels, so I was able to immediately understand my situation. I had been born again, with memories of my old life.

What an incredibly chuuni-esque development!

Moreover, I was even in a world of swords and magic as a bonus. But even if I reincarnated, I no longer thought of myself as special. Were this a novel then there’d be stuff like being born with OP powers, or a harem, or crap like that, but the reality isn’t that kind. In my old life, it was this kind of conceit that was why I had such a hard time.

God had even given me a second chance at life.

I told myself that this time, I would live seriously.

I’m Back in the Other World? – Chapter 12

Chapter 12 –  First Negotiations

“Please… buy my most precious possession(, the stationery that I brought from my old world)!”

The moment I finished saying this, the dining hall that had been noisy until now, fell quiet.
It seems that I was a little impatient with my money raising, and said it in a louder voice than expected.
When I looked at the Prince and the Squad Captain, the two of them were completely frozen for some reason.
Feeling gazes, I looked around the dining room, and found that all of the gazes in the room were focused on our table.
What’s the matter? While I was wondering this, I returned my gaze to the Prince who had finally broke free of his petrification, and opened his mouth a little panicked.

“S-, Sakura. You did certainly say that you were fifteen, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea. No, I’m not making light of your resolution, but I think that sort of thing should be, something you treasure a, little more you see.”

He began speaking about something I couldn’t understand at all.
The Squad Captain beside the Prince nodded anxiously as well.
Having seemingly heard our conversation, I could hear from the other tables,

“Fifteen? Can’t be. However you look at her she’s a child… But I don’t think the Prince would lie and…”

and the like.
This again? I am not a child.
Wondering what everybody was so flustered about, thinking it was odd I looked at the Prince when the innkeeper came running out from the kitchen, before hugging me.
What is this? Or so I was wondering, when I looked up at the innkeeper and found that they were glaring at the Prince like they would an insect.

“You. Just because you’re a prince, you were going to buy the body of such a small child!? Taking advantage of a person’s weakness and doing something so cruel to them, even if you’re a prince I won’t forgive you!”

Eh? What are they talking about?
By ‘small child’, they probably mean me. I look quite small after all. But buying my body? How did that appear?

“No, I didn’t say a thing about that! On the contrary, I tried to stop her!”

The Prince retorted flustered.
Wondering how the topic turned into this, I once more thought back on the conversation up until now.

……

………

Ah-…

“Wait, wait a moment! I didn’t say that I would be selling my body! My belongings! I only meant that I wanted to sell my belongings!”

I unconsciously screamed out in panic.
The Prince and the innkeeper turned my way.
If I don’t quickly wrap this up, I think it’ll get perilous.

“Like I said! The ballpoint pen and one of the notebooks I showed you! I want to sell them!”

I exchanged glances with the Prince and the innkeeper while blathering on.

“I have not even the tiniest intention of doing what the innkeeper talked about!”

Screaming, my face was probably bright red from the shame. It’s extremely embarassing. I can feel the heat on my face.

“Really? You’re not lying, right?”

The innkeeper peered in on my face in worry.
Did it seem like I was lying to cover it up?

“It’s not a lie. It’s all right.”

Seemingly assenting to my words for now, the innkeeper returned to the kitchen, still looking a little worried for me.

“Don’t use such misleading words, geez…”

The Prince collapsed into the chair in a slump.
It seems that I had stood up at some point without my knowing, and while hiding my embarassment, I sat down.

“So, umm, I want to sell the ballpoint pen and one of the notebooks I showed you earlier… I’m fine with whatever you’re willing to pay.”

I’ve managed to avoid the trouble born from my choice in words, but that doesn’t mean my original problem has been solved. I resume negotiations.

“I don’t mind buying that, but are you sure? It’s not something you can get here you know?”

Well, even if I have it I’m not going to use it here. If I get back to Japan I’ll be able to easily buy them, so there’s no problem.

“Yes, I am sure. And so, how much can I be expecting for it?”

I straightened my posture on the chair, and asked about the price.

“Let’s see… It’s impossible to create something similar in this world after all, but the money I have on hand is… Once we get back I’ll be able to prepare quite a bit of money but…”

He’s muttering again, isn’t he.

“I’m fine with the price you name, so please tell me.”

It didn’t seem like we would get anywhere if I waited, so I pressed him to give me a price.
After all, the two of them together didn’t even cost me ¥200, right? Just enough to buy the spices is plenty. If I remember correctly, just 5 silver coins is enough to buy me all the spices I need at the moment.
Thinking such things while I waited, the price that the Prince gave me far exceeded my expectations.

“Let’s see, how about 3 gold coins? Unfortunately I don’t have that much on me at the moment. I do think it’s too cheap, but would that be enough?”

The Prince said such words while looking apologetic.
I’m panicked. A ballpoint pen and noteboot that didn’t even cost ¥200 in exchange for ¥300,000? Is this a joke? How much times my allowance is that?

“Ha? No, I mean… isn’t 3 gold coins too much? Yes, it’s too much, isn’t it?”

“It’s something made from technology from another world. I think that even 3 gold coins is too cheap. If I had the funds with me I could pay even more but… And Sakura, you need money right now, don’t you? I don’t think there’s a need for you to say it’s too high, though?”

Between the Prince who said this naturally, and I who knew the original price, I could feel a difference in our sense of value.
Certainly I do need money for my immediate living expenses. However. However, money that the Prince owns, is in other words, tax money from the citizens. Is it really fine just to slap out that much tax money on such a cheap(, to me,) thing? With 3 gold coins, if I don’t spend extravagantly, it would be enough to let me live without doing a thing for half a year. As I thought, it’s not money that I can accept.

“No, as expected, 3 gold coins is too much. Your money was originally the citizen’s tax money. Even without that, you’ve already paid for my inn fees. Just enough money for my shopping is fine. And so, I think you should avoid needlessly spending that tax money.”

Right now I need to really make this clear. If I don’t, I’ll feel guilty later.

“Mu, well you’re right, but… But I think that technology is wonderful. I actually think that even 10 gold coins would be fine, you know.”

Wai-, 10 gold coins, meaning ¥10,000,000? Over 5000 times the original price!?

“But if you have a problem with me using tax money, then I wonder what I should do. If it’s only money that I’ve earned myself, then all I can pay is a single gold coin though.”

When I was panicked about the difference in our sense of value, I heard the Prince say such things.
Is this where I should just give up? Even one gold coin is 500 times the value, but…

“Then let’s make it 1 gold coin. I think that even that much is too expensive, but… even if I say that, you would probably not lower it further, and I did say at the start that we would go with the price you gave after all. But, I really do feel that taking a gold coin is too much, so how about this? I’ll cook everybody’s breakfast and dinner tomorrow. Even if I look like this, I’m actually good at cooking. The cookies from earlier were made by me as well, you know?”

For now, I’ll pay it back with what I can do. At the very least, they said that the cookies were tasty, so my cooking should have enough value as well.

“You did? Then can I expect this much from you in cooking as well? Hmm, lunch is going to be preserved food or army rations anyway, after all. Can I leave it to you then?”

It seems that we’ve reached a deal.

“Yes. I shall do my best. I’d like to go shopping right this minute, so would that be all right?”

I don’t know what time the shops are open until, but I think it might already be 7. If I don’t hurry, they’ll close.

“Yeah, I’ll take the ballpoint pen and notebook later. You need money for the shopping, right? Take this.”

The Prince produced silver coins from that generous pocket of his, and handed it over.

“This is all I have on me at the moment. The rest is in my room. As for the rest, we can trade when you get back.”

The silver coins in my hand numbered more than 20. With this, I’ll have no problems with shopping.

“Thank you very much. Well then, I shall be going.”

I gave my thanks as I left my seat, and then after asking the innkeeper where the shops were, I headed towards the general store.

EDIT: And they give readings for her name this time. Turns out it’s actually a slightly less common reading, Manami. Ahh, of course I don’t mean to say that 愛 being read as ‘mana’ is at all rare, but I mean altogether.

So, because of the middleman I use to buy light novels, I probably won’t see my book for another month or so. But! There’s a sample of the book available here which happens to come with an image. So here you are, guys (: Our favourite (mildly retarded) burikko-turned-heroine, and her merry friends. sample1043485-000 editedsample1043485-001

Just read the last 5 chapters of Mushoku Tensei [Series Review]

That was the final arc.

The feels, man. The feels.

1xreYkvLots of people hated it because he was a fat piece of garbage that fapped over his niece, but I think that was the point.

He had been hiding in his room since middle school, and was apparently an idiot even before he became a hikki. Basically he was a massive man-child. If you look at the things he thinks during the Demon Continent arc, you can tell that he’s missing a lot of things adults take for granted as common sense.

He’s a scummy man-child precisely because this is a growing up story. In the early chapters, he gets over his fears and starts moving again. And as time passes, and as he overcomes each crisis, he grows as a person. Which I think makes him quite a wonderful person. It sounds easy to change, but really, very few people actually do better themselves.

He started off as a disgusting deviant (and, well, arguably ends as one) but he definitely betters himself as a person. It takes a while, but as you follow him through the story, you really do notice that he takes these sort of sensibilities to heart.

Well, having said that though, there are still going to be people who scream “This is disgusting! It’s glorifying peedofilia, blah blah blah!” but I simply don’t agree with them. Growing up with Western sensibilities means that you get a knee-jerk reaction to certain things (and this includes me as well), but if you read it carefully, you’ll realise it’s not about that at all.

It’s about a man-child who gets a second chance to grow up properly, and learn the things that he should have learnt the first time. And yeah, he does fail a lot, and often realises incredibly obvious things, even as far as the Begaritto arc, but I personally found it all really believable.

And although I hated him when I first began reading this, I think I really like him now. He’s one of my favourite protagonists because he’s a kind person deep down, and he tries his very best to learn from his mistakes.

I’m definitely going to buy all of the volumes when they come out. I’ll definitely have a job by then, after all!

Edit: In the end, who the hell was the Bloody Kant? That guy’s apparently still alive and writing books.

I’m Back in the Other World? – Chapter 11

Chapter 11 –  The First Dinner

By punctured coin, I assume she means the old Asian/current Japanese style coins. Basically like American coins, but with a hole in the middle.

“Innkeeper, thank you for the tea. It was delicious.”

When I reached the dining room, I called out towards the kitchen.

“That’s fine. I’m glad it suited your taste.”

The innkeeper gave a light smile and took the tray from the Squad Chief, before heading back to the kitchen.

“Dinner for three, please.”

The Prince spoke to a nearby employee (the daughter of the innkeeper?), and sat down at an empty table.
The Squad Chief sat down at the table as well, so I also vaguely decided to sit down as well.
Somehow or other I ended up listening to them talk about the bandits from today, and the knight squad, before our food was carried to us.

“Tonight is bread with grilled herb chicken, and a vegetable and sausage stew.”

When I looked at the food, the innkeeper explained them to me.
Since I was hungry, I decided to immediately begin eating.
If you looked around, the other two at the table were already eating.

“Itadakimasu.”

After bringing my hands together in thanks, I tasted the food.
One by one, I took a bit of each of the foods, and chewed them.
After that, I took one of the pieces of bread from the basket in the middle of the table, and tearing off a little, I tried eating it.

“…”

I had forgotten…
The taste of the food was no different from in the knowledge of my old life.
In other words, it was not tasty.
It was by no means bad tasting. For the sake of protecting the honour of this shop, I have to say that it’s tasty for this world.
But to this tongue of mine that has gotten used to the food of Japan, it’s not food that can satisfy me.
MSG doesn’t exist in this world, but the way you use herbs and spices can greatly affect the taste of the cooking.
I know from the knowledge of my old life that the herbs and spices in this world are basically the same as those on earth.
In this world, most of those are used in medicine or talismans, and there’s no concept of using them in cooking.
The bread is also black coloured, and is extremely hard. It seems that there’s no bread that uses the fermentation of yeast. I must quickly reform this situation. If I remember correctly, spices and herbs should be sold in general stores or adventurer-related stores. Let’s have a look at them later.
While I was thinking this, perhaps because they had noticed that I had stopped my hand, the Prince and Squad Captain were looking my way.

“What’s wrong? You’re not going to eat? Does it not suit your tastes?”

“I thought that this place had pretty good cooking though.”

The Prince and Squad Captain asked me in confusion.

“No, it is fine. I was just a little shocked.”

While giving a small lie, I finished off my dinner. Whilst thinking about what I would do from now on.

After finishing dinner, I decided to try asking for a favour from the two who were now chatting while drinking fruit liquor.

“Umm, I’d actually like to go have a look at the general store and the stores that sell tools for adventurers after this.”

The two of them looked my way.

“Well, that’s fine but, did you need something from them?”

Well, if I suddenly wanted to go to a store, I suppose that’s a natural doubt.

“Yes, there are a few things that I want, you see. And so, umm, this is something difficult to ask, but…”

Indeed. Even if I go shopping, at present I have not a single one of the Golshu coins used in this world.

In this world, a single punctured copper coin is the lowest denomination ‘1 Golshu’, 10 punctured copper coins are 1 copper coin, 10 copper coins are 1 silver coin, 100 silver coins are 1 gold should. That’s how I remember it.
Above gold coins are treasure coins used for business dealings, which are worth 100 gold coins.
Comparing living expenses, 1 punctured copper coin corresponds to 10 Yen.
In other words, a punctured copper coin = ¥10, copper coin = ¥100, silver coin = ¥1000, gold coin = ¥10,000.
As for treasure coins, one of them is worth ¥10,000,000.
If I remember correctly, the living expenses of a normal commoner should be 5000 Golshu per month, so about 50 silver coins.

While recalling such a thing, I began negotiating to make money for my shopping funds.
“Umm, I have only just come to this world, so I have not even a single Golshu. It’s obvious, but I need money to purchase the things that I want. So… umm, Prince Sedrim…”

I cut off my sentence there, and looked at the Prince’s face.
What I have to negotiate with are my ballpoint pen, and the new notebook that I bought as a spare.
I’ll need the notebooks I’m currently using and my binder notebook for when I return back to Japan after all, and my permanent marker and mechanical pencil are probably not all that useful. As for my textbooks, they’re meaningless to the people of this world after all, so I’ve judged that amongst my belongings, the ballpoint pen and new notebook have the most value in this negotiation.

“Please… buy my most important thing(, the stationery that I brought from my old world)!”

蘇りの魔王(Yomigaeri no Maou) – Chapter 21

I just want to summarise all the normal stuff and skip right to the interesting parts of the story…

Now some of you may be wondering “Wat da FAACK is the Kingdom of Lezaad? You’ve been bloody writing “Renard” all of this time!”

Well, yes. Yes, BUT! BUT! I’ve actually been diagnosed with a severe disorder where when I misread a sequence of katakana for the first time, I will continue interpreting it wrong in my head for every time thereafter.

A good example of this is when I continually read the protagonist’s name as ‘Lurusliana’.

I won’t apologise. It’s the disorder’s fault. Blame the disorder.

Chapter 21 – Sightseeing

Fortress City Finale.
Historically it began as the royal capital’s first line of defence against the powerful monsters that descended from the mountain range to the north, but it seems that by now it was nothing more than an unimportant frontier city.
For a while after the founding of the Kingdom of Lezaad, large numbers of monsters on the Logsera Mountain Ranges were running rampant, but that situation had immediately changed when a few hundred years ago, an Ancient Dragon had settled down on the mountain.
Perhaps because the powerful monster had become a powerful source of leadership for the lower class monsters, or perhaps because they had become the prey of the Ancient Dragon and no longer had the leisure to move south, the numbers of monsters from the mountain ranges that headed southwards towards Finale dropped sharply.
Presently it was an extremely peaceful city, and although it wasn’t as though there weren’t any monster attacks at all, even so almost none of the powerful monsters that dwelt in the mountain ranges had been seen around Finale.
Right now it was known as a trade city that was right between the capital and a number of rural towns and villages, and there were more merchants than soldiers.
It’s title as a fortress city was a leftover from the past, along with the surrounding tall stone walls that gave the city its fortress designation.

He had brought Iris along, and talking a stroll through the city and finding everything extremely curious, he was enjoying himself.
Being known as a trade city, there seemed to be goods from various places, north, west, east and south, and it was enough that he wanted to spend a whole day killing time there.

“Ojisama… Please look at this!”

Being told that by Iris, he looked at where she was pointing and found that there were magic tools, ornaments, and even food.
Because she seemed to be having a lot of fun, he was glad that they came here.

Moreover, he found not a few magus machines being sold there, and went over with Iris to window shop, but contrary to his expectations there were a number of interesting things, so after careful selection he bought one.

The magus machine that he bought was not large; it was small and seemed to be handheld, something like a primitive magus gun (Magia Pistola).
Having said that though, it was different not only to the one that Yuumis brought, but to the one that Luru made as well, and you could actually say that it was almost a magic tool.

The different between a magic tool and a magus machine was whether or not you needed to insert magic, and whether or not it would run only with the insertion of mana. These were the two large differences, but there were also some differences in construction, and you couldn’t explain it simply. Moreover, there were also magic tools where you inserted mana, and there were also magus machines where you inserted magic. It was an issue of magnitude.
In the end, differentiating them was quite vague, but explaining it simply, their effectiveness was simply different. This wasn’t exactly correct, but with this way of thinking you could correctly distinguish most of them.
However, the thing that Luru had bought was something in-between a magic tool and a magus machine, not using that erroneous criteria of effectiveness, but in a true sense where it was in a transitional period in magical technology. Because of this, Luru found it interesting.
A magus machine was something that created phenomena different from the fundamental principles and ideas of mana and magic.
It relied not only on mana and magic, but used the understanding of natural laws and the construction of the tool itself.
Things built in such a manner were magus machines.

Incidentally, what Luru purchased was shaped like a staff, and on the end of the staff there was a large crystal attached. A shot of low class magic could be inserted, and that way you could fire a pre-prepared magic without any time required. An extremely questionable effiency.
It might be better to call it a magic staff rather than a magic pistola, but the concept behind it was the same as a magia pistola.
The difference in form was but a slight issue.

Being able to chantlessly use a single spell gave you quite an advantage, so you probably couldn’t call it useless. Moreover, because you’d have already inserted the magic, even if you didn’t have mana you could use it which was another advantage.

Only, in a battle between magicians, it was probably useless.
If it was just low class magic, it would probably be enough just to have chanted some of it in advance.
At Luru and Iris’ level, they could use it without chanting, so you could even say this staff had no use to them at all.

However, it seemed like it would be good use as an excuse for when they had to actually use chantless magic, and there was also the reason that using a staff seemed more magician-ey, so he bought one.
As for the problems in efficiency, he could just remodel it one of these days.

“…Ah-”

While they were wandering about the marketplace, they bumped into people a numer of times.
Luru did, Iris did, sometimes the two of them together.
Most of the time they bumped into raggedy children so their goal was apparent, and in fact, they slapped away the slippery hands that entered the crevices of their clothing a number of times.

“Wealth disparity is something that won’t disappear no matter the era, isn’t it?”

Each time, Iris would say that with a sad expression.
Both in the distant past and in the present, this was something that hadn’t changed. On the contrary, because in the past the world was embroiled in war, poor people and orphans just increased.
She was probably speaking with that memory in mind.
Luru felt the same on this point, and in the past he had tried his best to give them protection, but even so he had seen not a few children with blacked faces, wandering the battlefields looking for food.

“…That it can’t be helped, is something I don’t want to say, but… Speaking of which, the Church was zealous in giving shelter to orphans too, weren’t they?”

Luru suddenly recalled them.
The organisation they had continued to war with held extremely cruel and harsh ideas regarding the demon race, but they seemed extremely warm to humans, busying themselves extending the scale of their philanthropic activities.
One of the things they did was shelter orphans, but the orphans they sheltered often ended up as believers of the church or soldiers who fought on the frontlines, so their goal was clear.
It was much better than simply dying a dog’s death but… It was hard to put it into words.
Luru felt it a difficult topic.

“The Church, was it? It’s a nostalgic organisation but… why don’t they exist in this era? Even though the ones who won the war were undoubtedly the humans. Could it be that the Hero really did destroy them?”

Iris raised a doubt.
Indeed.
In the seven years that he had been investigating, there was nothing like the Church from those days.
They didn’t appear in the annals of history, and seemed to have been consigned to oblivion.
There were religious organisations that called themselves “the chuch” in this era as well, but they had no relation to the Church of that era, and Luru knew that they were different organisations.
From religions that worshipped extremely simple nature gods, to religions that worshipped a number of gods that were more like people, all the way to religions that prayed to rocks and mountains, there were a great variety of religions, building temples here and there. However, that Church from those days that worshipped a single deity, that talked of being saved by a Hero, and carried a slogan of completely eradicating the demons, there was no sign or trace of them to be found.

Just where on earth had they gone?
Had they disappeared in the waves of history along with the Ancient Demons?
Luru had no idea how he would investigate this though…

“…I’ll look into it one day. Fortunately, it seems that in the capital there’s a library with books from all around the world, huh.”

Besides that, they had no other leads.
It would be good if they could find out what happened to the Ancient Demons by searching the library as well, but his hopes were slim.
However, hearing Luru’s words,

“The past… It would be nice if we could find out what happened, wouldn’t it?”

smiled Iris.

◆◇◆◇◆

Wondering is there were any tourist attractions besides the marketplace, the two of them walked about.
He had wanted to see how developed a normal Lezaadian city was, so just walking about was plenty meaningful, but he also had the spirit of a tourist, wanting to see something interesting.
When he said this to Iris,

“I heard from Yuumis that there was an lake-floor city someplace. In a place like that there might be a lot of places to see, but if I had to say it, I think that Finale is more a place you would come for shopping.”

she replied.

Luru had also heard of a ‘lake-floor city’.
Having said that though, it wasn’t located in the Kingdom of Lezaad, and moreover it wasn’t a place that humans actually lived in, and was treated more like a den of monsters.

You could perhaps call it a historical relic.
Having said that though, it was apparently not Ancient Demon in origin.
At any rate, Luru had no memory of such a city, and Iris was the same.

“Since there’s a city at the bottom of a lake, it seems like there should be a city in the sky as well, huh.”

When Luru said this, Iris replied,

“It would be interesting if there was one, but… I don’t think there would be one on this continent. If there was a city on the Sky Continent that existed in the past, then perhaps you could call that a Sky City, but… in the end nobody could set foot there, so…”

What Iris spoke of was a continent that was discovered floating in the sky, in the past.

“The Sky Continent, huh… How nostalgic. I had wanted to try going there, but…”

That continent was once called the Sky Continent, and the continent beneath it that served as a base was called the Dark Continent, and nobody knew by what principle it floated above it. It was a mysterious land.
There existed magus machines for flying which people had tried to use to get there, but once you got close the operation of the machine would worsen, and you’d crash.
They challenged themselves to improve the magus machine a number of times, but in the end their wish to reach it went ungranted, and it was left in history as a mysterious continent.

Incidentally, in those days the humans, and in particular, the Church, had claimed that it was where angels lived, but however you looked at it, that was all talk.
Because at any rate, they hadn’t been able to go there themselves either.
There was also the problem of flying up there, but more importantly, between the Sky Continent and the Crescent Moon Continent that held the human headquarters was the home of the demon race, the True Demon Continent, blocking them off like a wall. Even when they tried to avoid the True Demon Continent by travelling by sea, they would be swept away by currents, and as for travelling through the air, the demons naturally had flying machines, so that was impossible. All this meant was that it was only something they knew about from afar, unable to do a thing besides sucking on their thumbs.
Had they just stopped the war and asked to be allowed pass to the Sky Continent that would have bene fine, but they wouldn’t stop so the Church in those days were probably all hardcore in their beliefs.
If possible, Luru wished for that kind of group to never be born again, but…

“I wonder if the Sky Continent is floating even now… I had tried to find out what kind of place it was, but… If it still exists, I’ll try researching it again.”

When Luru said this, Iris placed her index finger to her mouth and said,

“Ojisama, you tried going there once in a flying machine, but failed, didn’t you? …Speaking of which, is that when it first started? Your acrophobia, I mean.”

She casually mentioned Luru’s weakness.
He frowned.

“Acrophobia… I’m, bad with high places.”

What came to mind was the blue sky he had seen from the window of the flying machine, that time he had flown it through the sky.
And then flying from the True Demon Continent for half a day, and then the sudden appearance of the continent that treated the skies as its ocean.
The spectacle that was the highlight of the trip.

And, the moment it had come into sight, the sound of the alarms in the flying machine.
The altitude he was losing, and the mana that served as fuel disappearing for some reason…

“…That was, scary.”

“If I remember correctly, father had gone as a crew member as well, hadn’t he? Just hearing the circumstances is enough to make my blood run cold. No matter how much stronger than humans we demons are, dropping from such high altitudes is not something you’d escape from unharmed… Although, even if I can’t say you and father would escape unscathed, you would certainly survive.”

Although that was true, the chance of being grievously injured was not little.
In particular, the flying machine they had been riding on was a large model with stupidly powerful output, and if you made a mistake in controlling it, it was possible that it would cause harm equivalent to a number of large scale spells.
Even if they were the demon king and his close aide, it wasn’t thinkable that they wanted to sit in the middle of a large scale magic.

“I would think that battling with the Heroes would have been much scarier but…”

Iris tilted her head in wonder, and Luru replied.

“That kind of thing has its own terror…”

However, in the end Iris couldn’t understand.
When Luru asked her about it, it turned out that Iris liked flying machines, and was apparently fine even at high altitudes.
Luru felt somehow scared from the beginning, so he probably had the fear of heights in him to begin with.

There was certainly fears like ‘I’ll die so it’s scary’ and ‘I’ll get injured so it’s scary’ but… How should one say this? Perhaps you could call it a physiological fear.

Finding it difficult to find the best way to explain it, in the end Luru gave up on explaining it.

Chapter 22 – A Church and Priest (33%)

Chapter 22 – Church and Priest

While walking around, before they knew it the sky was dyed madder red.
In this orange world, the inhabitants of Finale’s marketplace were beginning to pack up, and one by one they walked home with happy expressions, probably to their awaiting families.

Luru and Iris were thinking to head back too, but along the way a church suddenly caught their attention.

“…I’m curious.”

So muttered Luru, before the entrance, filled to the brim with empty darkness, of a church that seemed uninhabited.
He hadn’t really had a chance to see a church institute up until now, and hadn’t gone into what you’d call a proper church until now.
In the days as a demon king he’d searched through the interiors of destroyed churches before, but both the construction style and exterior of the churchs in this era were different.
To begin with it was a different religion so that much was obvious, but that was exactly why he wanted to have a look at least once.

“If we do not stay for too long, we should be able to make dinner. Please do as you wish, Ojisama. I shall accompany you.”

So replied Iris.
Taking her up on her words, Luru slowly entered the church.
Probably not barring people from coming and going, the door was fixed open.

After taking a step inside, the lively bustle they could outside became distant, and Luru who wasn’t particularly religious towards the church, felt for some reason that he was getting in the mood to be so.

It seems that the inside of the church was extremely bare, and only had the bare minimum.
A number of tough looking benches were lined up, and further in the church was a podium that was higher than the rest of the floor.
Essentially this was all.

However, after having almost looked through the entire place, something surprisingly suddenly came to Luru’s attention, and his mouth opened in astonishment.

“Ojisama…!?”

It seems that Iris was feeling the same way, because she raised her voice as she stared at the one point.
It was further in than the podium.

She was looking where the light was seeping in through the colourful stained glass, and normally you wouldn’t find anything strange.

There, was a figure.

In contrast to the inside of this church that was dominated by grey, there stood a richly coloured, or rather properly coloured, statue.

It was the figure of a standing person.

His hair that should have been silver was by the protection of the flame spirits, dyed an exceptional burning red. And he wore a masculine expression, that seemed to symbolise his personality. From his slightly revealing outer clothing you could tell that his arms were, though thin, well built.
From a glance he seemed to be a youth, but those shining red eyes of his housed a calm and knowing expression, and had a gaze that seemed to look into the believers that came to the church.

That face, and that expression. And the colour of that hair.

Luru clearly remembered them.

Why, was in a place like this?

Why, was he standing like that in a place like this?

Luru wanted unbearably to ask.

But he knew that even if he did, there would be no reply.

For the man was not actually standing there.
It was nothing more than a statue.

And like that, Luru squeezed out a voice and called the name of the statue.

“…Bacchus…”

Indeed, the statue in the church was Luru’s friend long ago, the man who was not only the trusted confidant of the Demon King, but Iris’ real father.
