Chapter 4 – Port Sazan and the Guild

Author: A lot of explanation.

After exiting the forest and heading south for an hour, Port Sazan finally came into view.

As we made our way there, Kosuinen started to grate on my nerves, constantly asking me about the item I had used to heal Nellie. I ended brushing him off saying that I had received them as a reward for saving the lives of some nobles and had used just used up the last of my stocks.

Although I had already spoken at length with Nellie and the three guards, finding out more about the world without giving myself away proved to be quite difficult. Eventually, I remembered I had learned Advanced Conversation and Advanced Seduction, and upon activation, conversation proceeded so smoothly that I wondered why I was even worried in the first place. Though to be fairs, these were skills only used to deceive NPCs of enemy nations back in the game.1

From our conversation, I learned that the three guards belonged to an organization called the “Adventurer’s Guild.” The Guild was responsible for dispatching adventurers to perform a kind of contract work. It mainly commissioned monster neutralisation, escorting, exploration, etc. The trio had taken on the request to accompany Kosuinen as guards.

Additionally, one’s class referred to the fundamental job knowledge and skill information that the guild would impart via magic to those who satisfied the necessary requirements. No wonder they thought “kunoichi” was a one of the rare hidden classes. Incidentally, the guild also had basic slave as a class, Nellie being such an example, because some were already paying out of pocket to buy slaves to use as meat shields for Guild work.

“Is that so?” said Quinn. ”So you arrived here from another continent?”

“Yes, so there was this magic research institution that was conducting an experiment on teleportation. And at the time, I happened to be escorting some big-shots by the area when I was unfortunately caught up in the explosion… The next thing I knew, I was in the middle of the forest.”

“That sounds… really rough,” Quinn said, offering her sympathies while making a pained expression. “Here I was thinking your items and your appearance didn’t seem around from these parts. So it was because you were from another continent… I’m a little shocked.”

Yeah, even I felt it was a lame justification, but thanks to having activated my conversations skills, she didn’t seem to doubt me in the slightest… Well, even if I had told them the truth that I was from a different world, they’d likely have an even harder time believing me.

“In that case Shino-dono,” Quinn continued, ”you should think about registering with the Guild in this town! If you plan on travelling, it would serve as a good replacement for an ID, and with your abilities, even reaching A-rank wouldn’t be far off.”

“Hmm, why not. I do need to secure our finances too.” Thinking about it, I didn’t have any money that could be used in this world since all of Sengoku Online’s currency was in kan.2

As our aimless chatter filled the air, we at some point arrived at Kosuinen’s end destination, Port Sazan.

*karma*

“Right, good work you all. Get out the commission completion certificate, and I’ll sign.”

Govack took out the paper, “Here you go.”

“Ah, yes,” writing on them, Kosuinen handed them back, ” this seems all good. Here you go.”

Looking it over, Govack’s face twisted, “Kosunien, sir, what’s the meaning of this ‘C’ evaluation? The cargo was unharmed?”

“Hmph, though you could say monsters’ appearance was more than we had budgeted for, I still lost my beastkin girl’s arm… She was still my property then. Of course I’d subtract off my evaluation.”

“… Tch, no helping it then.”

“Ha, be grateful that I didn’t mark the request incomplete. Hahahaha.” With an evil smile curled on his face (or so I was convinced), Kosuinen left us and headed towards the merchant district. Likely on the way to deliver his cargo.

“What an aggravating guy…” I spat out, glaring at the air in the direction he had left in. ”Just thinking a bastard like him was once Nellie-chan’s master ticks me off.”

Nellie quietly pulled at the sleeves of my tunic, “But Goshujin-sama… now I belong to you.” Like the very embodiment of a cat, Nellie nuzzled her neck against my back.

Ahh! Nellie,” I turned around immediately hugging her tightly with both arms,” you’re just too cute! But you know Nellie, could you call me not by Goshujin-sama, but by my name?”

“Uhm… uhh… Shino, sama?”

“Yes, yes, one more time.”

“Shino-sama…”

“Mhm, you’re so adorable.”

*karma*

*karma*

“Uhm… Shino-dono?” Govack’s voice brought me back to my senses. I had almost lost myself in a world of just Nellie and I.

“Pa-pardon me… I couldn’t help myself.”

“What are your plans now? If you’re planning on registering with the Guild, we could take you along yeah?”

“Ah, yes, if you could.“

Although it pained me to, I extracted myself off of Nellie’s cushy body, and, without letting it show on my face, followed after Govack’s group.

“Oh, so it’s like a proper place after all,” I said to myself, ”almost like a city hall.”

“Well, this is the second largest town next to the capital after all,“ said Govack responding to my offhand remarks with sincerity, ”not really sure what a ‘city hall’ is though. Come in this way.”

Following after his party, Nellie and I entered the guild. The inside was an area with several windowed counters, much like a government office, placed alongside a dining hall.

“New recruits should go to that counter, if I recall.”

As if hearing Govack’s words, the lady behind the counter replied, “Yes, this counter is fine.”

“Ah, not for me. This lady here would like to register.”

“Very well. Please fill out this form with your name, age, sex, and class you are applying for. Place of birth is optional.”

“Understood.” I took the paper form and began to fill it out. It seems the writing is the same as Japan’s. Thinking about it now, people could understand what I was saying, though perhaps it was to be expected of the world closest to my own.

“About that, the lady told me she’s from another continent, and her class is something called a kunoichi… Will that cause any problems?”

“A, kunoichi? Please wait a moment…

We have no records of a kunoichi class here. It would be a completely new class. We won’t be able to grant you any skills with magic, but if you still would like continue, we can register you and your new class.”

“Yeah, I’d fine with that.” I already had more skills than I would ever need anyway.

“Thank you very much. Should you provide us with information regarding your class’s skills, we will waive the registration fee.”

“Hmm, would I have to reveal all my skills?”

“Not at all, just one skill exclusive to the class would be sufficient. Or five non-class-exclusive skills.”

“Then that’s no problem, I’ll share the information. What do I need to do?”

“Thank you very much. Please place your hand on this divination stone,” taking out a pure white, mousepad-like stone, she continued, “and bring to mind the image up of the skill you would like to share.”

Deciding on a which kunoichi skill, I placed my right hand on it.

“The scan is now complete. The skill you offered is:

Shadow Bind, mana cost 0
Able to cast after a shuriken or similar weapon is lodged into a target’s shadow.
Once cast, it seals the target’s movements.
Relevant Attributes: Mid, Dex
Resistance Attributes: Mid
Base Success Rate: 80%

Is that corec— eeehhh!? Paralysis effect, 0 mana cost, and a success rate of 80%!? I-i-is it really alright!? Are you really okay divulging this ultimate-like skill to us!?”

“I don’t mind at all.”

“Unbelievable, what a crazy skill,” said Govack, wholly impressed.

But it wasn’t as if anyone over here were familiar with what ninjas3 could do, I myself had resistance to it, and it wasn’t even my strongest skill. And indeed, in Sengoku Online, it was a skill that didn’t see much use.

“Tha-thank you. Now then, I only need transcribe the information from your form onto your guild card… Just as before, please place your hand over here.”

Compared to the stone before, I put my hand on the much smaller… plaque the size of a smartphone she handed me.

“Please wait one minute… It is now ready.”

In that minute, the smartphone-sized plaque turned pitch black.

“Depending on your class, your card does change color, but such a dark black is really quite unusual… Please hold your card and imagine the words ‘open status’.”

“Alright.” Open status… hmm.

Somehow, I get the feeling that it’d be unwise to show anyone else the contents of this card.

My MP is ‘N/A’!? And what’s with this ‘Equilibrium of the Cosmos’ title!? Though the Character Change skill is was probably there so I could make use of my alternative characters…

“Uh, uhm.”

“Yes?”

“When I want to use this as an ID, must I show everything?”

“Ah, no, you are able to hide everything but your name, class, guild rank, sex, and age. In that minimal state, it will still serve as an ID without any issues. Additionally, Guild staff are also unable to view hidden sections except under extenuating circumstances. We guarantee your privacy.”

Alright, I should be safe for the most part then.

“If everything looks in order, then I would like to continue explaining each section.”

“P-please do.”

“Ahem, in that case…
Name, sex, class level, and age all mean what you expect,
total level is calculated from the experience gained from all your classes,
your guild rank is your rating within the Guild,
ranks range from EX, S, A, B, C, D, E, to F highest to lowest,

because you just joined Shino-sama, you are an F-rank,
incidentally, C-ranks are veterans, B-ranks are the elite, A-ranks are the top elite, S-ranks are the equivalent heroes, and EX-ranks may as well be legends,

HP is your life force,
MP is your possed mana,
Str is physical strength,
Vit is vitality or robustness,
Dex is dexterity,
Spd is speed,
Int is intelligence,
Mid is willpower,

for all stats except HP and MP, the average for adults is between 8 and 12, and for humans, the max is 18 in each stat,
the higher your level, the more difficult it becomes to raise it,

titles are like second name given at the will of the gods,
special skills are specific to the individual or to the class, and will persist in effect without needing ever to equip them into your skill slots,
type affinity affects your attack power and damage received for the associated type,
positive affinity is of course more desirable, and those who possess any affinity of over +20% are quite rare,
and blessings refer to divine protection granted by gods or beings of equal stature.

That should be about everything to give a rough idea.”

“T-thank you for taking the time to explaining everything to me…” Amazing, she said everything in one breath without stopping.

“Should you wish to take on any requests, please proceed to the next counter to apply.”

“Okay, thank you.”

“Great, it’s seems you’ve registered. Next is this counter.” As if waiting for me to finish registering, Govack led me to the counter next door in charge of commissions.

“It’s already this late, so I’d like to leave looking for work for tomorrow.”

“Ah, that’s not it, Shindo-dono. Actually, the scale vipers you defeated are the target of an ongoing neutralization request, and if you bring what was designated as the kill proof, you can receive guild points and other rewards in exchange.”

“Is that so?”

“This is your share of five gems… The gems on the scale viper’s head serves as the proof for them. Try handing them in to the counter along with your card.”

“You took the time to gather my share as well?”

“Well, you did save our lives, so we had to do something in return, though it’s not much… We didn’t get much off this job, so please let us off at just that.”

“No need to worry, this is already plenty. Thank you.”

In contrast to his outer appearance, he was quite attentive to the small things. Much appreciated.

In short fashion, I went to the commissions counter to submit the five gems, “Can you process these?”

“Yes, these gems are… from scale vipers? And five of them! … Please wait a moment.”

The lady behind the counter disappeared deep inside and, after some rummaging, returned holding two bags.

“This small one contains two gold coins, and this large one contains 50 silver coins. One scale viper is 5,000 kram totaling to 25,000 kram.”

“Thank you very much,” I replied to the counter lady. Then I asked Govack next to me, ”By the way, about how much is this worth on this continent?”

“Let’s see, with 10 kram, one could buy a meal at quite an appetizing restaurant. With 100 kram or 1 silver coin, you could spend a night with two meals at a middle-grade inn.”

“… It’s quite the amount then.”

“It is. But adventurers have a lot of expenses between weapons, armor, and medical treatment… It’ll be gone before you know it if you’re not careful.”

“I’ll keep that in mind.”

But at least now I found a path to the life together with Nellie.

So many things happened today. I felt exhausted, especially mentally. Can this day just be over so I can find an inn to pass out in squeezing Nellie like the lovely mass of pillow she is.

Author: Shino-san is walking straight down the path of a degen at a terrifying pace (lol).

1 Non-Player Characters (NPCs) are citizens of the game world that do not have a player behind their actions. Typically not used to refer to monsters.

2 Kan, also known as kanme, is a unit of measurement for weight in the context of the real world. As of 1891, following the Japanese government’s efforts to standardize it, the kan is equivalent to exactly 3.75 kilograms or 1000 momme (the standard unit of measurement in the pearl industry).

3 For those forgetful, kunoichis are a gender-specific term for female ninjas.

Goodbye

Hey guys, I’m sorry to say that I will be leaving OCY.

I may eventually repost Sheep Evo on my own blog (as I will be taking it down), but that will depend on how busy I am in real life.

Thank you all so much for putting up with me, and I am very grateful for the likes and comments my story received because I was actually expecting none.

Haha, funny thing, many of you probably never even noticed I was here, but hello! I was an editor! \o

Thank you for your time, sorry this wasn’t a chapter. . . . Guess this is goodbye.

EDIT: As a side-note, Sheep Evo was a story that I was writing and I’d prefer not to directly link my blog as it feels impolite to do so on a blog I’m no longer a part of.

THE REINCARNATED VAMPIRE WANTS AN AFTERNOON NAP – 04

The Adorable Bandit-san

“HYAAAHAAAA! HAND OVER EVERYTHING YOU HAAAVE!!”

The reason I can understand this world’s language is thanks to the Language Translation skill. It’s a really convenient ability since my words are also translated and delivered to the other party, so I don’t have to worry about having any issues while conversing. As expected of the daily special.

If I focus with this ability, I can even communicate with animals, but as expected, there is really no need to go that far. Let’s just limit the effectiveness to humans as it had been up till now. It’s an ability that can be configured like that too.

…Be that as it may, what’s with this cliche?

The bandit’s lines seemed like they had already been heard by half of humanity.

Despite thinking that, for the time being, I decided to stage a showy entrance in order to make my existence known.

I rushed to the location between the horse drawn cart and the three bandits before abruptly stopping with all my strength. The sudden deceleration whips up a flashy dust cloud.

I sprinted here barefoot and even though my feet have gouged a hole in the ground, it doesn’t hurt at all. Vampires sure are sturdy.

If I were still human, it would have been impossible to create this meteorite-like impact like circumstance with a regular human body. Vampires sure are amazing.

“W-What the-!?”

Even in the cloud of dust, I could comprehend that the three bandits and the horse drawn carriage have stopped. Thanks to my enhanced sense of smell I can understand what’s around me.

…Ah, there’s an amazing smell coming from the carriage.

Some kind of sausage or preserved meat…also the sweet smell of bread and vegetables. The more I focus on it the hungrier I become. Having a strong sense of smell can also be a problem.

… Let’s finish this quickly and claim a reward.

While I was thinking about such things, the cloud of dust dispersed and I confronted the three bandits.

The bandit facing me on my right pointed at me with a trembling finger,

“B-Boss! A pervert came out of the dust cloud!”

Oh, that kind of reaction huh.

Certainly, I’m not wearing any clothes right now. Looking at my body once again, I have long silver hair that seemed to wrap around my body mostly covering the important parts, but no matter how you look at it  I’m naked. It probably can’t be helped that I’m treated as a female pervert.

Well, that doesn’t matter right now anyway. What’s really important now is that I satisfy my hunger.

“Umm, excuse me bleeding forehead merchant-san”

“Y-Yes!?”

I turned around and the merchant bleeding from his forehead replied while covering his face with his hands.

To not look at a naked woman’s body, how very gentlemanly…or so I thought, until I saw him staring at my butt through the gaps between his fingers. Huh, he was just your typical closet pervert.

“If you give me food I’ll help you out, so what will it be?”

“Huh…what?”

“ No, I’m saying if you give me food I’ll save you. If you don’t want that I’ll immediately go somewhere else, so what will it be?”

“Err, then, please…”

“Okay, your request has been accepted.”

Obviously the other party was confused, but he agreed to my offer. I got him to agree, so it’s my win in this situation. *Grin*

Well then, let’s help him as promised.

I’m passionless but I don’t like to break promises. Promises are something meant to be kept. Because I’ve made one, I’ll properly keep it. Swallowing a thousand needles is scary anyway.

“Well then…From the right, you’re Overgrown Leghair-san, Caped Baldy-san, and Semi-visible Nosehair-san.“

“““WHAT’S WITH THOSE NAMES!?”””

They splendidly harmonized. The three of them actually harmonized their dissatisfaction. I thought the nicknames captured their unique features, but it looks like they don’t like them.

Good grief, whether it’s these guys or Loligramps-san, they’re such selfish people. Be like bleeding from his forehead merchant-san and show me you can obediently accept the name.

“Overgrown Leghair-san, Caped Baldy-san, did you want Semi-visible Nosehair-san’s name?”

“““THAT WASN’T THE PROBLEM!!!”””

Again they harmonized. They sure do get along~.

While I was thinking about what to call them, the three bandits simultaneously jumped off their horses. As they did so, they somersaulted in midair and landed on the ground elegantly. Each of them took a strange pose and started to give a speech.

“I am the chain and sickle, Chihuahua!”

“I am the explosive, Dachs!”

“And finally there’s the amazing me, the knife thrower, Terrier!! All together we three are the Terrier Bandit Troupe! “

“…Pff-“

“““IS THERE SOMETHING FUNNY!?”””

“S-Sorry, just give me a minute…Pffhaha”

…Don’t you all have names of small dogs?

Since it’s another world, the meaning might be different. From my perspective though, all three of them are dogs! And small dog breeds at that!

The three all look tough, but their names…Ah, this is bad. I’m completely stuck on the dog thing.. To make matters worse, the three of them seem to be pretty honorable; they’re just watching me laugh at them while their shoulders shake in anger. That barely contained trembling looks just like a puppy’s…

“Aha, ahahahaha! I can’t take it anymore, what’s with that? It’s so cute…Ahahahahahha!”

“You bastard…Don’t get so cocky!”

“Kyaan!?”

Chain and sickle Chihuahua-chan, in accordance to his name, used a chain and sickle to attack me.

The sickle that Chihuahua-chan was holding has a chain attached to its body and a counterweight on the other end. A pretty typical chain and sickle appearance.

The horizontally swung chain wrapped around my body. As Chihuahua-chan pulled the chain, it constricted and the counterweight got caught in the chain, completing a lock.

… Ahh, so this is how the chain and sickle catches its opponents.

I’m surprised. And then since my surprised voiced sounded unexpectedly feminine, I became even more surprised.

As expected, even though I have the consciousness of a male, my body is that of a female. No way, I’m being forcefully turned into a girl…!

“Guhehe…I don’t know why there’s a pervert in this place but what a fine jewel this is. Acting all carefree…After we thoroughly enjoy ourselves, we’ll sell you off to the slave dealer!”

I’m sorry, but losing my virginity only three days after being born is a little bit too much for me.

There was a part of me that was still going with the flow, but if it becomes like that, then at least be a bit cooler, have stable income, let me roll around without having to do anything, and smile with a friendly grin while accepting anything I ask, that kind of person is good! As a parasitic target, I mean, lover!

“Oi oi, haven’t you become rather calm? Ahh!? Do you understand the situation you’re in?”

“Ah, Yes yes, I understand perfectly, Chihuahua-chan”

“Calling me with –chan…You bastard, it looks like you won’t understand till I seriously violate you at least once! “

Chihuahua-chan’s veins stood out as he pulled tightly on the chain. He started to draw me in, or so he had planned.

“Hng-!?”

… It’s not good to think that I’m that powerless okay?

I only lightly put some power into my legs, but with Chihuahua-chan’s degree of strength, I didn’t budge. A look as if something unbelievable just happened settled onto Chihuahua’s face.

“W-Why…!?”

“You also, can you see the situation you are in?”

In the first place, three mob characters challenging an opponent without thinking is quite a stupid thing to do.

The reason why I decided to appear in front of them is quite simple. It’s because from the people standing in front of me, I don’t feel any wonder or amazement.

For example, it feels like I’m looking at hamsters in a cage. See, there’s no sense of danger to be felt right? Rather, you’d think it’s an adorable thing to look at.

Somehow, it seems I can currently grasp the strength of my opponents just by looking at them. Specifically, by smelling them.

This is the “Blood Reading” skill. With this skill, I can grasp information on my opponent’s ability through their blood, but somehow, from the smell of their blood I can also get a general understanding of how strong they are as well.

My opponents haven’t spilt any blood yet. But even still, at this distance, my nose can tell approximately what kind of blood they have every time. This is thanks to the Enhanced Olfaction skill.

Meaning, this information was obtained by using Blood Reading and Enhanced Olfaction together.

… Well, I already maxed out Blood Reading anyway.

It was a little unreasonable, but the fact that it became unusually convenient is not a laughing matter. Reaching this effect with just smell every time that is.

For example, even if they all teamed up against me, I wouldn’t receive even a scratch. Because I have such confidence, that’s why I have been so carefree.

“Heave-ho.”

Since the chains felt annoying, I turned the upper half of my body into fog and slipped out. This is the “Fog-Form” ability. I can even turn each of my body parts into fog individually. Very convenient.

“W-Wha…!?”

“Tch…Dachs!”

“Got it, boss.”

Unlike the dumbfounded Chihuahua-chan, Terrier-chan calmly gave Dachs-chan instructions.

Dachs-chan took out a round object from his breast pocket. The round object had a cord-like substance connected to it, and Dachs-chan lit it on fire with a match.

Since it seems your name is “Explosive Dachs,” that is without a doubt a bomb right?

“How about this!!”

Dachs-chan took up a clean pitching position, and with an overhand throw, he tossed the bomb.

Isn’t this, a pretty tight situation I’m in?

“What will you do if you damage the goods…Wind-san, I’ll leave it to you”

Wind Magic.

I only have one point allocated in it so I can’t do anything amazing but, summoning some wind is no problem.

As I wanted, a sudden gust appeared and blew the bomb back to the source, the perpetrators; goodbye… Ah. The fire didn’t go out.

““Uheeeee!?””

“Get down, men!”

Thanks to Terrier-chan promptly pushing the two down, it seems that the three of them didn’t take any damage.

The sound of the explosion resounded fairly impressively, but looking at it, the power wasn’t that much. Since I decided to take them alive, I should use something with less gunpowder huh.

“Ku…You bastard, you aren’t an ordinary pervert are you!”

“Ehh, well…I’m not a pervert though”

Since my feelings are that of a male’s, molester…No, that also has a bad implication to it.

Anyway, it’s not like I’m not wearing clothes because I like it or anything. Being called a pervert is upsetting, okay?

“If it’s become like this, then I don’t care if there’s some injuries. With my knife throwing-”

“Wind-san, please”

“““UWAAAAAAAAA!?”””

Since I’m going to get really hungry soon, it’s time to end this.

I abundantly gathered my magic power, and with it, I summoned a sudden gust of wind.

Even though what I did was simple, if I increase the input, the scale of the spell becomes bigger; it seems like this is one of the rules of magic in this world. The manual in my head doesn’t seem to be false so with peace of mind, I confidently made use of my power to fully charge the magic.

Once I gathered up a vast amount of magic power to create a gust, it became a giant vortex, swallowing up the small breed dog-guys and blowing them away.

Splendidly harmonized screams were heard as they left their horses behind and the figures of the Terrier Bandit Troupe disappeared from my view.

“Haaa, I’m really hungry now”

They were pretty interesting so I wanted play with them some more, but right now, getting some food is my top priority.

Well I more or less went easy on them, so I don’t think they’ll die.

Probably.

The Seventh Story – On the Night of the Storm

So, I’m looking for manga cleaners/typesetters to help me translate manga/doujins on the side. You can find me on Discord (ping @Toki at http://discord.gg/0uufyDAsTZbg67TU ).
Thank you, and please enjoy the chapter~.

A woman in a hat appeared, wearing a white muslin apron over blue cotton dress. That woman was Agnes.
Her hair was styled in her usual braids, and the long ribbon that dangled from her hat swayed gently.
At first glance, her clothing suggested that she was a servant. However, her elegance and grace suggested otherwise.
Her dress lacked puff sleeves and was long enough to cover her ankles, and although her apron was popular amongst the servants for being light and easy to dry, it was so thin as to be translucent and was made of cheap materials.
Though there were those among the nobles who put up appearances by preparing expensive clothes for their servants, Bernard was not one of them. Basically, he left any concerns about garments and such to the head of the servants, Gigille.

Though the outfit was a complete anachronism, when Agnes wore it, for some reason, it appeared elegant.

–It’s hopeless, she won’t look like a servant this way!!

Bernard had thought that if she just had the appearance of a servant, while he thought about her service, she would somehow continue to be concealed.
Nevertheless, Agnes, who was dressed in a servant’s attire in front of him, could only be seen as a noble’s daughter.
There was no servant so refined as this.

“Um, Master, your overcoat……”

Agnes approached without a sound.
Because he was deep in thought, Bernard was so astonished that his shoulders shuddered.
Though his heart had flown out of his chest just from being greeted, Agnes immediately drew much closer.

“L-Like I said, you’re too close!!”
“I-I’m sorry.”

He accidentally yelled at her to come back after learning the distance servants should keep from their master.
Quickly taking off his overcoat, he threw it to Agnes.
Though he started heading toward his room dressed in that fashion, a voice from behind came to his attention.

“Master.”
“You still need something?”
“Yes.”

To catch up with his rapid strides forward, Agnes followed in a trot.
Because he felt a bit of pity at her now uneven breathing, Bernard came to a stop.

“From now– Kyaa!”
“!?”

Agnes had bumped into the now stopped Bernard’s back.
Because it was only a light impact, it didn’t hurt or anything, but at this absolutely careless situation, he became irritated and turned around with an angry look on his face.

“Y-You……”
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

Agnes apologized earnestly. Bernard looked down at that girl while furrowing his brows.

“–––?”

Even here, a question floated into his mind. Whether this girl was actually that Agnes Le Verges.

Agnes, who was born into a distinguished earl’s family that was said to have a long history, had debuted in the brilliant high society.
Called the resplendent rose, he had thought her to be a very prideful noble daughter who looked down upon lower class nobles.

“Master?”
“!”

Once again, he had fallen deep into thought in front of Agnes.
Shaking his head furiously, he inquired what her business with him was.

“It’s about the plans from now on, but–“
“Ahh.”

After properly straightening her back, Agnes asked her question with a clear voice.

“Would you like to take a bath? Would you like to eat a meal?”

A bath or a meal.
It was what Eric had always asked.
Because the inside of his head was still hazy, he thought it would be good to go take a bath to clear his head up.

“Or–“
“You still have things left to say!”

After hearing that, he came to his senses and remembered. Previously, by chance, he had heard Gigille jokingly telling her husband, Dominic, those words.

–Would you like to take a bath? Would you like to eat a meal? Or, would you rather rather have m~e~?

The moment that came to mind, Bernard’s face flushed a deep red.
Though he felt like yelling at Gigille, who had taught her unnecessary things, before that, he thought he should respond to Agnes’ words first.

“A bath!!”

Saying that, he returned to his room at a quick pace. Agnes, upon hearing the reply to her question, did not continue following him.

◇◇◇

Washing his sweaty body, he relaxedly settled into the bathtub.
Before he knew it, rain had started to fall.
It wasn’t a gentle, weak rain, but a rain that poured heavily and loudly.
The raindrops that intensely hit the ground interfered with Bernard’s thoughts.
Resigning himself to the fact that he wouldn’t come up with an answer even if he continued to think long and hard about it, he exited the bathtub.
At the same time, he heard Eric’s voice from outside the bathhouse.
Hanging his towel on his shoulder, Bernard responded.

“What’s up?”
“Master, on the third floor, the roof has started to leak.”
“What are you saying?”

The history of the mansion Bernard owned numbered around a hundred years. While doing the biannual inspection, they used every trick in the book to live there.
Frankly speaking, it was a run-down mansion.
Though he had from time to time heard from Gigille’s daughter who lived in the attic that there were leaks in the roof, it was the first time he had heard that it had leaked to the lower floors.
Eric said that because it had hailed during the day, that might be the cause.

For now, Bernard commanded him to take make temporary repairs so the second floor did not get ruined any further by rainwater.
After drying his hair and body off well enough, he put on new clothes.

When he ran up to the third floor, he heard the loud noises of the servants running around.

“Ah, Master!”
“Wah, Master!”

The ones who noticed Bernard were Gigille’s twin daughters, Carol and Celia. They were beauties with black hair and blue eyes.
The twins were placing buckets under the dripping rainwater and swapping them out.

“Master, it’s a disaster!”
“The attic is submerged!”
“!?”

Speaking of the attic, he had heard it was the room that Agnes was using.
Leaving the third floor to Gigille and the twins, he headed to the place where the roof was leaking intensely.

When he ran up the stairs, he witnessed a person cowering in front of the door made of two sheets of paper.
It was the teary-eyed Agnes. Her hair and clothes were only a little wet.
The thing she was embracing as if to protect it was a dripping wet suitcase. It was the object that contained the only private property she had left.

“You–“
“Ah……”

As soon as she saw Bernard’s form, Agnes hastily stood up and bowed.
She apologized in a trembling voice.

“T-The room h-has f-flood-ded.”
“What are you saying.”

Brushing aside Agnes, who was in the middle of the doorway, he entered the room.

It was the first time he had entered the attic.
Because the eldest daughter of the previous master, Gigille, had stated that the room was “My private castle,” even just looking at the room would have been considered an atrocity.

Currently, in the middle of the room, it was drizzling.
In the middle were Dominic and the second son who was in charge of the kitchen, Aaron. They were in the middle of patching the roof up with planks.

“Hey.”
“Master.”

After he had called out to the two who were working, Eric came around from the back.
His business was asking if he should go to request the aid of a carpenter for the rest of the work.

“In this forest with such rain in the night, there’s no way he’d come.”
“Well then, the repairs.”
“It’s useless even if we put the planks on the roof!”

If they patched it up with boards, they would have to do it for the room as well.
“Then, I’ll leave it to Dominic.”
“If a big man like him got on top of the roof, it would break.”
“Aaron has acrophobia. And as such, I will-”
“It’s fine. I’ll go.”
“However.”
“This is my house!”

He gave the order to put as many buckets, bowls, and such out to catch the water in the attic.
Snatching away the three boards, hammer, and nails that Aaron was holding, he opened the window.
Outside, it was stormy. A strong wind blowing against them, the rain was blowing sideways.
Seeing the state of affairs, he quickly went to stop Bernard.

“Master, I’m telling you, it’s dangerous!”
“Though if we leave it like this, the house will flood completely! It’s fine so you guys just do something about the leaking rain! It’s an order!”

If they were told so by their master, it couldn’t be helped. The manservants went to the first floor to grab bowls.
Bernard hung the hammer on his belt and put the nails in his pocket. Carrying the planks at his side, Bernard, placing his feet on the window frame, climbed up on top of the roof.

“……Fuck!”

Because the rooftop was pitch black, he couldn’t see anything. He needed a lantern. After he hurriedly turned around, he lost his balance after slipping on a wet roof tile. However, somehow, he held on, and instead of heading down from the roof, he calmed down.

If he were in a panic, he would get hurt. It would be natural to instruct someone to be composed in this situation.

Bernard put the boards in the roof’s gutter and, while hanging down from the roof requested that someone to come bring him a lantern since he felt the presence of people.

As a lantern was immediately held out to him, he extended his arm and received it.

“Hey, close the window! The room will get wet.”

After he said that, the window was shut.

He was on top of the roof a second time, with the lantern shining at his feet.
As Eric had said, the terracotta tiles were broken in a few places.
While wondering how big the hail that had fallen down was, he unintentionally creased his brow.
Tearing off the broken roof tiles, he hammered the replacement planks down.
As the three planks were insufficient, Bernard lowered his lower body from the edge of the roof and knocked on the window with his heel.
Thereupon, the window opened.

“Hey, bring more planks!!”

At the instruction, a single plank was held out toward him.

“One plank isn’t going to be enough! Bring more.”

He extended his arm, and upon receiving the plank, he saw three trembling planks being held up.
Bernard picked them up with one hand.
In total he had seven planks, and he said to close the window.

Happily, the roof tiles were damaged in only ten places.
After hammering the replacement boards, the roof leak problem was solved.

After finishing patrolling the roof, Bernard descended.
There, servants were cleaning the floor in every direction.
Gigille had brought towels.

“–That was awful.”

After murmuring that, he noticed Agnes, who was cleaning.
He tilted his head at the girl who was wetter than anyone else. Though when he saw her earlier, she shouldn’t have been this wet.

“You, why are you so wet. Did you slip somewhere or something?”
“N-No.”

Agnes looked up at Bernard with teary eyes. Her shoulders were trembling, and he thought that she looked like a kitten who had been abandoned in the rain.

During that time, Gigille forced her way through.

“Miss Agnes had been carrying the planks for Master’s sake.”
“That was you?”
“Yes.”

He understood why the three planks that were held out were shaking. To the powerless noble’s daughter, the three thin planks must have been heavy.

“You’ve done enough.”
“Eh?”

Pulling Agnes’ arm, he made her rise.
After that, he turned her body right around and pushed her back toward the doorway.

“Um, I–“
“Go down.”
“B-But”
“Gigille, Carol, and Celia too.”

Saying that the men should clean up the room, he ordered the women to change into dry clothes.
Gigille, rising up, bowed.

“Then Master, I’ll take your word for it.”
“Thank you!”
“Thank you!”

The twins happily said their thanks and started tidying up the cleaning equipment.
Agnes stood there alone, all shaken up.

“Miss Agnes, let’s go. It’s Master’s order.”
“Eh? Ehhh……”

Having her back pushed by Gigille, Agnes left the room.

In the attic that had lost its showiness, Dominic, Eric, and Aaron resumed Bernard’s ordered cleaning activities.

Chapter 3 – First Battle

“What… What on earth is that?”

“We were almost out of the forest—what’s a C-rank monster doing so close to the city! Any normal serpent would have been fine, but a scale viper…”

“Hurry up and rescue me! I’m paying top coinage for the lot of you!”

“We’ll do as much as we can… but please be prepared to abandon cargo and flee in the worst case.”

“Don’t be ridiculous! There’s forty rainbow ipomoeas1 in there! Just how much do you think…”

*Karma*

By the time I had arrived at where I had heard the scream from… the battle was already at its peak. Backed up against the the two-horse wagon stood a slightly plump man hiding in its shadow… and a group of three with weapons drawn trying to protect him. Against them were serpents that measured what could easily be over two-meters tall. Five to six strong with outward shells that shone like armor.

I called out to the the plump man who was closest, “Hello~… Would you like some assistance?”

“Woah!? Where did you pop out from…“ He nodded immediately, ”Well, whatever. I’ll reward you so hurry up and dispose of them!”

Hmm, a reward huh? Duly noted.

Let me activate Stealth and see what I can do. Sneaking behind a large one, I activated Surprise Attack.

Oh, I hadn’t equipped my weapon yet. Ah whatever, they looked weak anyway.

I moved in for the attack and sank a blade-hand chop. Its head detached from its body with a satisfying snap, rolling to the ground. It seemed like my Surprise Attack had triggered Critical Strike too.

“Wha—”

“Where did you— Who are you even?!”

“You did that… barehanded? Were the necks of scale vipers sliceable barehanded?!”

Though Stealth had faded as soon as I had begun my attack, it didn’t seem like it would pose any problems for me against an enemy of this level. Though the four remaining vipers had simultaneously turned to their attention to me as if having recognized me as a threat (the last was being kept in check by the sheer size of the male guard), they weren’t able to lay even a single scratch on me. Master Evasion seemed to be doing work.

“Ah, just leave them to me. You guys go help the tall guy over there.”

“Don’t be ridiculous! One against four—huh, you haven’t even broken a sweat… Alright, I don’t know who are you are but thanks! Quirley, we’re back to Govack! Be ready with healing spells for us!”

“U-understood Quinn!”

So their names were Govack, Quinn, and Quirley. The towering muscle of a man wielding a greatsword must be Govack, the glamorous silver-haired lady in snug-fitting leather armor and wielding something like a shortsword must be Quinn, and girl with chestnut hair the one garbed in a vibrant green manteau with must be Quirley. As I ruminated over the matter, my body was automatically dodging the vipers’ every attack and responding with Master Counter landing critical hit after critical hit.

“Yaaaa!!! Take this! Rock Cleave!!!”

Gale Slash!!”

”Bless us with good fortune! Minor Heal!”

Around the same time I beheaded the last viper on my end, the trio also seemed to have finished dealing with their one.

“Huff, huff, serves, you, right!”

“Hah, hah… They did have the ‘Rough’, ‘Evasive’, and ‘Paralysis Poison’ attributes after all… Even out of C-class monsters, three-attribute ones are particularly difficult.”

“Thanks for backing me up guys. As for the rest of them… Wait, those corpses, don’t tell me you…?”

“Yeah, the one who saved us earlier. By herself, she took out four alone in a flash.”

“Woah, unbelievable. And they’re all practically one-hit kills.”

“What astonishing prowess… thanks traveller, you really saved us.”

Just hearing those words born of the heart of praise and gratitude, I couldn’t help but feel prickly and uncomfortable…I only happened to land a chance to cheat my way into getting this power. Really a grade far from the skills they had risked their lives to forge.

“You’ve really outdone yourselves you dogs! Now stop dawdling—we’re heading out. We need to reach town and make the delivery before the day is out.”

I see, so the chubby man was the merchant and the three who fought were his guards he hired.

“Ah, wait a moment please… The gem located on their foreheads serves as proof of their neutralization. We should at least take those before leaving… Quirley, go to our driver and tend to her wounds in the meantime.”

“Okay.”

Huh? So they had a fifth with them. I following after Quirley to the back of the wagon… and saw a petite girl collapsed by the wagon.

Ohh, cat ears and a tail. The devilishly cute— Wait, her arm was on the verge of falling from its socket. How painful.

“Hmph, leave her! Her arm is already in tatters. Even if we were to heal the wounds, she wouldn’t be able to drive the wagon with just one hand.”

“… She’s your slave,” said Govack.

“That’s exactly why! What use is she! I can’t even sell her to a brothel because no one would bed a beastkin… I had only hired her as a guard and to take care of chores and yet she’s already become useless in blink of an eye. Nothing but a wasted expense.”

“… You—”

“Stop it Govack. Master Kosuinen, could we at least us take her with us to town? If you think about it, abandoning her here would serve only to spread bad rumors.”

“Hmph, I guess it can’t be helped.”

Quinn was appealing to the sensibilities of that merchant, Kosuinen’s was it (lol). Good job!

But wasn’t there something I could do for her? At the rate things were going, even if we took her to town, her fate would be left to the streets, a death sentence for sure. What’s more, it seemed she was valued bottom of barrel even among slaves, and, with just one arm left, she likely hadn’t many prospects.

Wait, maybe there was something. I called up my inventory to look over what I still had from Sengoku Online. If I could make use of these

I readied myself and called out to Kosuinen (lol), “Uhm.”

“Huh, oh! It’s you again! What you showed back there was quite the spectacle. What a display of prowess! You have my thanks… What do you say, rather than those three fools, how does becoming my company’s personal guard sound?”

“Ahaha, my apologies, I’m a little busy with other things at the moment… But as I was saying.”

“Hmm? What is it?”

“You had mentioned a reward earlier if memory serves?”

“Huh? Ahh, did… I?” his face stiffened.

“You, had, mentioned, it, did, you, not?”

“Ahh, I-I did! But I’m currently still mid-delivery, so I don’t have any coins on hand.”

What stubborn fat-ass. “Worry not. I request not money, but her. Would you entrust the girl to me?”

“The… girl? The beastkin girl? Just her and nothing else?”

“Indeed, however in consideration of possible future disputes over ownership, I would like all formal produces for an official transfer be conducted. Would that be acceptable?”

“Ahh, if that’s all you want then… Nellie! Come here!”

Under Quirley-san’s healing, it seemed the bleeding had stopped for the cat-eared lass, Nellie-chan. Her white hair that drooped to her shoulders was dyed in blood. Just looking was hard to  bear.

“Now listen carefully, that lady there is saying that she’s going buy a useless deadbeat like you. Be grateful you even got this chance.”

Gulping, Nellie-chan nodded.

“Then let us begin the contract transfer procedures… Place your hand on the beastkin’s collar.”

“Like this?”

“That is sufficient. Now that I think about it, I didn’t get the chance to hear your name.”

I briefly thought about using an alias but said, “It’s Shino Kagura.” Considering that it was a formal ritual, I thought better of it and gave my real name instead.

“Alright then, let us begin.” Kosuinen also placed his hand on Nellie-chan’s collar, “God of Contracts, Promys, I pray to thee. I, Kosuinen, one of Secovytch’s merchants and owner of the slave Nellie, hereby transfer her ownership to Shino Kagura-dono for no required compensation. Shino Kagura-dono and slave Nellie, do you acknowledge?”

As if in response, a light began to permeate the room centered around Nellie’s collar and drew me in. Fascinating.

“I acknowledge,” said Nellie, shaking me from my stupor.

I see, so this is an “official transfer.” Then I too ought to reply, plus the two of them seemed to be waiting for it, “I, uh, acknowledge.”

“Excellent. With that, we’ve completed the transfer. You can now use her in whatever way you please.”

“How could you say that? How could one think to do anything but fawn all over her,” I said, my voice resounding clearly, still quietly gazing into the light as it settled. ”Such a bewitchingly fluffy tail! And these blissfully cushy ears! How could one not shower her in love?!”

“Well, uh… to each their own I guess… ” said Kosuinen, a little startled by my sudden outburst of love for the likes of a beastkin, a single-armed one no less.

“Shino-dono was it?” said the blond-haired man as he offered his hand. “Thank you so much for… for well everything. My name is Govack, level 18 warrior.”

Sturdy-looking and carrying a greatsword upon his back, a warrior… He probably was also extending his thanks for taking in Nellie. A good person unbecoming of his grim-looking face. Wait, he said level 18 right? So this world has a level system? First magic, now levelling, this really is an RPG world.

“My name is Quinn,” said the silvered-haired lady. “I’m a level 15 ranger. Allow me to also express my thanks Shino-san.” She saluted with her shortsword.

Glamorous with leather armor that fit her to a tee. Ahh, now that I wasn’t distracted, wasn’t she drop-dead gorgeous. This lady. Even as a woman, I could feel myself getting a little light-headed.

“While I don’t have any money, for now at least, let me offer you this as a token of my gratitude,” wrapping me in both arms, she kissed me on the ear.

Oh my god! This was too much for a village lass like me. If I were to go down this yuri route, just what else could be awaiting me!

She giggled and said, “You’re so cute when you’re embarrassed.”

Running to my side, the girl with chestnut hair looked up at me, her eyes full of respect, and said, “Uh, uhm, thank you very much. My name is Quirley. I’m a level 13 healer.”

The girl in a vibrant green manteau, Quirley. If Quinn-san were a luscious red rose, then she would be an immaculate white chrysanthemum. Though appealing in a completely different way, Quirley too was incredibly adorable.

If it weren’t for her ears, even Nellie would be incredibly attractive among humans. Were all girls in this world beauties by default? Then wouldn’t that basically rate my charm at weed level status in this world? How depressing.

“Uhh,” she said with a voice devoid of emotion, probably due to the shock of losing an arm, ”my name is Nellie. I’m a level 1 common slave. Pleased to meet you… Goushujin-sama.”

Just wait a little longer, don’t worry.

“Kagura Shino… though perhaps, it would be better to introduce myself as Shino Kagura over here. Kunoichi. My level is secret.” Not knowing what my Sengoku Online level would mean for this  world’s levelling system, I decided to leave it ambiguous.

“I understand. I imagine it can turn out to be quite the hassle to deal with the flood of job requests that come once they find out you’re high level. No offense at all. But kunoichi huh? I’ve never heard of it. Quinn, have you?”

“It’s a first for me too. But judging from the battle earlier, it seems to be a light-armor class that focuses on speed and use of skills yet is a tier above light-class warrior at the same time… perhaps it’s even a hidden class.”

… I didn’t quite follow. Tier above? Did she mean like an addable crafting profession? Perhaps the system worked the same way how RPG’s let you change professions.

“Y-yeah, something like,” I said, trying to pass it off. I’ll be sure to ask Nellie-chan about it later. Hastily changing the topic, “A-anyway, we should first focus on healing Nellie.”

“… My apologies,” Quirely said on the verge of tears, “this is the best I can do with my skills, anymore is…”

“It wasn’t my intent to blame you! Rather, I just so happen to have gotten my hands on a quality healing item, but I won’t know if it’s effective or not until she tries it…” Wait, why was everyone making such surprised expressions? Especially you Kosuinen.

“Y-you’re going to use something so expensive on a slave… A magical item that could restore lost body parts?!”

“Ah, well like I said, I’m not sure it’ll work without trying.” Whoops, was it abnormal to use healing items on slaves?

Looking through my inventory, I spotted some pills I had made while on my herbalist while replenishing my stock and took a few tablets out.

Panacea, cures all abnormal effects.
Analeptic, completely revitalizes one’s stamina.
All-recover, restore lost body parts (only one part per use).

Though town shops sold each for quite the price, I could make them for free ignoring the labor time costs thanks to my kunoichi’s gathering and herbalist’s production skills.

That self-proclaimed world’s overseer did mention they would try their best to recreate my Sengoku Online data, in which case… Moving my arm to make it seem as if I had pulled something from out my pouch, I placed one of each tablet into Nellie’s left hand and told her, “Please swallow this.”

“Ex, excuse me! One such as myself cannot possibly accept such expensive medicine!”

“… Nellie, aren’t you my slave?”

“Y-yes.”

“Then be quiet and swallow. I am not one to skimp on looking after that which is mine.”

“Al… right,” finally conceding as if having resigned herself, Nellie swallowed all three tablets.

The effect was immediate.

Aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!”

Nellie whole began to shine brightly, and, one by one, all of her bruises began to disappear.

“It burns! Goshujin-samaaaaaa.”

Everything was going to be fine, r-right? Though she probably was overreacting a little, perhaps she would calm down a little if I hugged her?

“Don’t worry Nellie, everything is going to be alright.” I hugged her and gently patted her back.

“Ahhhh…”

Once the light had faded, I looked over to see if Nellie had calmed down, The skin that regrew on right arm is looking glossy and wonderful.

“… Oh man,” said Govack, ”isn’t that amazing! For it to have such a dramatic effect, as expected of an elixir-level item.”

“… If you were to sell this,” said Quinn, ”you’d be rich in an instant. Nevermind common slaves, you could even buy a cream-of-the-crop sex slave.”

“Sob, I’m a familiar of a healer.”

I was surprised at the guard trio’s words. I’d never thought that healing items in this world would be that valuable. Although I could opening a business selling them and secure myself a lucrative income source if it came down to it, I think I’d rather pass except as a last resort… I wouldn’t want myself to stand out too much.

“Nellie, are you alright? Does anything feel out of place?”

“Yes, Goshujin, sama, there doesn’t, seem to be…” she said, staring blankly at her restored arm. “Goshujin-sama, it’s a bit strange. I can see the flow of mana even more clearly than before. And… I know I shouldn’t really possess that much mana, yet now it feels like I’m overflowing with it.”

Hmm? A side-effect of the item? I thought to myself when I heard the ding of a message received.

‘You are now an output gate for mana, even something innocent like a well-intentioned hug will bestow mana, magic in other words, to the other. Please proceed prudently.’

Geez, I thought you said we wouldn’t be in contact again… Oh—so what was happening to Nellie wasn’t because of using the item but because of me!

“Goshujin-sama…”

Those eyes are too full of temptation, Nellie-san.

“Goshujin-sama, I vow to devote my entire life to you! Even should this contract be revoked, this body is yours now and forever…” Bending to her knees, she kissed the top of my foot.

“Y-you don’t have to do such things… but well, I’m not too familiar around these parts since I’m not from this continent, so I’d be overjoyed if you would help me out.” I extended my hand to help her back to her feet.

“Of course! Goshujin-sama, please feel free to ask anything of me!”

—I’ll keep it secret that she had slipped straight into my heart with that pledge and set it on ablaze.

Chapter 2 – Within a Forest

“Ugh…”

The sensation of the ground and the stench of summer grass open shook me awake.

“… What?”

Scanning my surroundings, all I saw were trees. Grass. A vast sky.

“Huh?”

I couldn’t make heads or tails of what was going on.
Just a second ago, I was inside the ninja mansion playing Sengoku Online…
And now, I was outside… collapsed, in the middle of a forest?
My village was fairly rural, so further down towards to the mountains one could find many places quite this wild…

“Even I wouldn’t go outside still wearing my ninja outfit.”

Right, weren’t these clothes I was wearing during the show we held for sword battle? All of my outfit was exactly as I had left after having taken off the the headband and the hood.

“I haven’t been kidnapped, have I? But then again, they wouldn’t just leave me alone outside without tying me up… Ah! My phone!”

I had just realized something incredibly important: the phone that had just been in my hand was nowhere to be seen.

“Ugh, all my personal information… And if my Sengoku Online account gets stolen, that’ll be the end of me!”

I better hurry back home and first thing get that phone frozen, I thought, when I heard a ding.

“Eh?”

A familiar sound. The ding of receiving a message.

“Huh, am I hearing things? But my phone’s nowhere to be seen—” A ‘message received’ window popped up before my eyes.

It was without a doubt the front screen of my smartphone, semi-transparent, floating in the air.

“Wha…”

As I stood lost for words, the message on that screen opened itself.

‘Dear Kagura-sama:
Though this may come as quite the surprise, you are now in a different world from the Earth where you once lived. This is not Japan but Falyias, an alternative world as you might call it.’

“Not only is this transparency hard to read but the message lacks an ounce of concern for my wellbeing! And what’s with this cringe chuuni setting! Straight out of a notebook of delusional fantasies that even the most angsty nerd would keep locked away.”1

“Not only is this transparency hard to read but the message lacks an ounce of concern for my wellbeing! And what’s with this cringe chuuni setting! Straight out of a notebook of delusional fantasies that even the most angsty nerd would keep locked away.”

‘Even if you put it that way, this is your reality now, delusional as it may be.’

“Responses come in real-time?! A chat client?!” I no longer knew what was going on anymore.

‘For starters, as Falyias’s overseer, I would like to offer my sincerest apologies. This sequence of events was truly just an unfortunate coincidence, and the fault indirectly lies with this world’s side.’

“…And?”

Thinking things through, even if supposing one did have the technology to create this air-like window, it wouldn’t be anyone in out in a forest like this in the middle of nowhere. Something definitely was abnormal about the situation. If that was the case, then gathering information was top priority.

‘Originally this world, Falyias, existed on the same wavelength as yours on practically the same phase. But just as your world proceed down the path of science, Falyias proceeded down the path of magic.’

“I see I see.”

‘… But constant use of magic and sorcery by humans and monsters slowly began to exhaust the mana supply of the world… and we were but a hair’s breath from complete destruction.’

“Mana?”

‘The basis of magic and sorcery, a type of energy present throughout the world. You could even call it the force through which the world exists as the world in reality.’

“And if depleted, what would happen?”

‘The power for existence itself would be depleted. It would be as if the world called Falyias had never existed in the first place.’

“… And don’t tell me I’m to do something about it? Talk about cliché summoning…”

‘You are mistaken, everything has already been taken care of.’

“What?!” I yelled. If everything has been taken care of, then just send me back already. Why even explain?

‘To be exact, the fact that you are here in this world is the very proof that everything is proceeding far better than we could have imagined.’

Wait, that makes even less sense.

‘I wrote earlier that the two worlds exist on closely related phases… But precisely because of how close, as if being pulled in by a magnet, Falyias drew ever closer to the mana-abundant Earth.’

“But mana seems like something so out of fantasy. I wouldn’t have thought that Earth would have any.”

‘The structure of your world’s reality do not allow magic to manifest itself given the way that things shook out. With mana having no way to be used much less to show traces of its existence, it began to build as time flowed forward. So much so in fact as to have adverse effects on your world in much the same way as its deficiency has had on this one.’

“So you’re telling me to bring your dangerously barren world together with my dangerously abundant world… to do something about this mana situation?”

‘Should the worlds be left to the whims of the forces of attraction, forget salvation, it would be a one-way trip set straight for destruction… Thus, your world’s overseer and I decided to each designate a part of reality as a point of contact through which to allow mana to trickle over, however…’

“However?” I had a bad feeling about this.

‘… All the conditions for said point of contact aligned on you… Kagura-san, it has been decided that you are to be byway through which mana will flow from Earth to Falyias.’

“What the heck is this!!”

‘M-my humblest apologies.’

“Precisely, on, me… You mean I can’t return home?”

‘At the present time, it is impossible considering the current violence of the influx of mana through you… But in approximately a thousand years, it should be possible.’

“A thousand years?! Not even the smallest speck of dust of my dead body will remain!”

‘Ah, that’s right. You now have essentially eternal youth due to the influx of mana. Nevermind 1000 years, you may even live to be 10000.’

“……”

‘Well, uh, how about this! I’ve taken the data from the device your hand was in physical contact with when you came over… your smartphone, and have created a pretty faithful copy of your Sengoku Online profile. With that, I thought you’d be able to acclimatize smoothly to life over here!’

“Wait? My Sengoku Online profile?”

‘That’s right. As your character’s name was the same and appearance already similar, it was but a simple task. Take it as a freebie.’

“Even if you say that… Well, if it’s all it does is help me to acclimatize then sure… Besides, wouldn’t be an angsty teen’s chuuni fantasy without it.”

‘No doubts or lingering regrets?’

“Well… I no longer have family there anymore after all. If you say I can’t return, then I’ll just move on looking forward—”

“Eeeeeeeek!” came a sudden scream interrupting us. It was a female voice from the middle of the forest. Yup, definitely textbook chuuni.

“So I guess this is where I go save her…?”

‘I merely oversee. It is not my place to tell you what to do. But, given your stats, it should pose you no challenge.’

“Alright, alright, I get it. I’ll get on it. Wouldn’t want this leaving me with nightmares…”

‘Incidentally, your skills can be used in the same manner as before, so… good luck… I cannot interfere anymore, so I doubt that we will be in touch.’

“Hey! Wait-”

With a click, the message’s window closed. What an irresponsible bloke.

“Sigh… He mentioned I could use skills right… Lemme see, Edit Skills… Woah.”

My phone’s screen popped up again, this time displaying the skill menu from Sengoku Online.

“Let me go with the ‘Trash Mobs’ preset for now.”

All the skills I had entered into ‘Trash Mobs’ were still as I had left them.

Selecting it, “Ohh, my body feels light. Looks like the movement effects of Gust are working.”

Gust, Fleet-Footed, Master Evasion, Critical Strike, Triple Strike, Surprise Attack, Fire Breath, Master Counter, Stealth, Dual Wielding.

I could feel the notifications of each skill being set steadily roll into my head.

Though there was still much to think over, I put those aside for the moment and set my sights on clearing this upcoming event.

1 The actual phrasing here is just chuuni setting ignoring the last sentence. Chuunibyou is a term now is used to describe those that mistakenly believe themselves in possession of magical powers or special attributes. Second-year middle school syndrome.

Karma – 01

Chapter 1 – Prologue

Author: My name is Aoeh
This will be the first time I’ve written a story this long.
The story may involve a bit of yuri, violence, and cruelty.
You have been warned.

“… Be thou Mutou Jinnai-dono?”

Under the midday sun, a woman dressed in a typical ninja uniform greeted the ronin-looking man walking on the highway by the outskirts of town, haired in a knot.

“A shinobi huh…2 An agent of the Eichigo3 family no doubt. It is indeed Mutou Jinnai speaking.“

“Quick on uptake, admirable. Then nothing more need be said… I shall be claiming that head.”

The woman bent forward ever so slightly, gripping her shortsword4 in reverse, and rushed at the ronin.

“As if I would hand it so easily!”

He drew out his katana into a slash to intercept the woman’s shortsword. As the blades clashed, not the high-pitched screech of grinding metal but—

A disappointingly faint click could be heard instead.

*Karma*

“And that concludes the sword battle performance for this afternoon’s segment.”

The announcement managed to make its way in as far as the female staff room in the ninja mansion where I taking my break. I nodded and said, “And with that, today’s work is over.”

After double-checking the closing hours, I took my hood and headband off and hung them on the hook inside my locker.

*Karma*

Normally, wearing these pitch-black ninja clothes from sunrise till sunset would be highly impractical. What’s more, catching whiff of the news that a shinobi was approaching a samurai in broad daylight for a duel would cause any real shinobi to writhe in their graves. But if it was for visitor event for a tourist attraction, then it’s a different story.

Our small village, or rather tourist attraction, was located in Niigata Prefecture somewhere between Joetsu and Itoigawa. This ghost town, whittled away by depopulation chip by chip and but a hair’s breadth away from complete desertion, decided to rebrand itself as a ninja village to attract the youth and tourists in an attempt to revitalize itself.

Though our main sell was of course seeing ninjas, it wasn’t as if we had made them up and had no history of actual ninjas. This area used to be under the domain of the daimyo Uesugi Kenshin. And legends have it that the Nokigiru, a group rumoured to serve under the daimyo Kenshin as a secret intelligence agency, once resided here.

Two years ago, I, Kagura Shino (now 21), had been searching for a job in Niigata city since graduating from high school when I received news that my hometown had reinvent itself as a ninja village. Rejecting any pending tentative job offers, I returned to my hometown.

Now one might wonder why a young lass full of future would jump at the opportunity to work at ninja village. But even in a nothing-to-do village like my hometown, as its one saving grace, I still looked back fondly on watching the rebroadcasts of the historical dramas like Mitou Koumon5 and Hissatsu Shigotonin6 with my grandfather.

And to me who, like grandfather, like granddaughter, had proceeded smoothly down the path set from youth to become a full-fledged historical drama nerd, this news and working here were godsend.

“Kagura-san, I’ll be heading back first~,” said Kai through the door, one of the part-timers who had acted out the sword battle earlier with me.

“Take care~”

I ought to have a word with him, coming all the way to the women’s changing room, where someone just might be changing, only to say goodbye, but I guess I couldn’t really blame him as there was severe lack of young women in the village. If someone of even my looks is getting attention, I probably should cut him some slack.

“Well, putting that aside…”

I took out my smartphone out of the locker and started up an app.

Sengoku’s Ambition Online

An online game set in fictional Japan at the time of Sengoku era, the Warring States period. Although the phone version was released only recently, I had transferred my account and characters from the PC version, which I had already sank a lot of time into, so my level was quite high.

Level 85 ninja, level 76 exorcist, level 60 blacksmith, and level 77 herbalist.

One was allowed up to four characters per account. All of my characters were well past the so-called “master level” of 50. Because I had my blacksmith, I never ran into issues when it came to gearing everyone out. Even in a one-on-one fight with a boss class like those of Nobunaga or Ieyasu, I was confident I could win. But in actuality, I would have had to deal with those annoying minions that come with bosses so genuinely doing such a thing wasn’t realistic.

“Well then, which one you lovelies should play as today~”

Regardless of the character, I had decided to name each using my real name Kagura Shino. Because it by itself already sounded somewhat old-fashioned, I thought it surprisingly fit the aesthetic of the world quite well.

“Kunoichi-chan it is!”7

As I touched my phone to tap the picture of my kunoichi—

Just like that, the phone began to suck in my finger.

1 Ronin, a type of samurai. In this case it is not modern use to refer to a salaryman in transitional unemployment or student that failed exams for the next tier of education, but is reference to master-less travelling samurai vagrants.

2 In the feudal era assassins were generally referred to as ninjas, whereas Shinobi were specifically those that practiced Ninjutsu, the way of the ninja.

3 Eichigo is also the old name of Niigata Prefecture, where the real world portion of this story is set.

4 The shortsword is actually a toutasu, a single- or double-edged dagger typically used by samurai.

5 Mito Koumon is a period drama that first aired in 1969–1975 for 1227 episodes and named after the titular protagonist. It is an alternate name for Tokugawa Mitsukuni andis also the name of several other films and series.

6 Hissatsu Shigotonin, which translates to roughly the ‘Perfect Assassin,’ is a period drama that aired from 1979–1981.

7 Kunoichi is a more modern term for female ninjas; ‘ninja’ itself is not gender specific. It is said to derive from breaking up the character for woman 女 into the three recognizable constituent strokes くノ一 (in the correct stroke order) which is read as ku-no-ichi.

CLEANUP – CHAPTER 16改二

Chapter 16:Experiments and Preparations – Q of Hearts (Part 2)

HEEEY, TEITO-, I mean, adMIRal. E-Eh? Wrong game?
Jokes aside, let’s start the Otoburi revival project!

Basically, Este dropped Otoburi because he’s a lazy ass loser, so I’m picking it back up. Also Este fucking sucks and originally linked me the wrong chapter, then ended up having a rough tl of this chapter already done that wasn’t listed on ToC, so I ended up (re)doing this chapter. Este says this is a better tl and it was good practice for getting a better feel for the writing, so I guess it’s ok. So, enjoy Cleaning 16 Kai2.

Also, have some skype logs.
[3:35:40 AM] estomiya-kun: is otoburi finally going to be revived
[3:35:46 AM] estomiya-kun: amazing
[3:35:51 AM] estomiya-kun: the most amazing part is that i dont have to do it
[3:42:40 AM] Toki: I’d be excited
[3:42:42 AM] Toki: but I’m translating
[3:42:43 AM] Toki: so I’m not

… It’s freezing.
Though it could be said it was due to the season being winter, no matter when I visited this place, it always felt dim and cold.
It was the castle’s dungeon.
Though it was still daytime, not even a single ray of light shone in here.

“Ah, Achille… about the experiment on the tattoo, though you said it was fine, over here is…”

At the stone staircase that was illuminated by the glow of a magic torch, I descended step by step while being pulled along by Achille.
Inside the dungeon, the temperature was regulated with flame magic so that prisoners did not freeze to death.
At any rate, the reason it feels a little chilly might be because it’s only warmed to the bare minimum.

Yesterday in the room, I talked to Achille about experimenting on “Forbidden Magic Defense Tattoos,” and as a result, it seems that he made preparations for the experiments this morning for my sake. As expected of Achille… he’s a fast worker.

“This is the place where the person who, out of the kindness of their heart, volunteered to help out with Camille’s experiments resides.”
“Is there really someone like that?”

This is suspicious, isn’t it?
After all, helping out with the experiments meant having forbidden magic cast on them, y’know?
These are the experiments with forbidden magic that Achille forbade me from performing on myself, the ones that I also hesitated to perform on Achille.
A person who would voluntarily offer themselves up to such danger…
What an extreme masochist!

While continuing to pull me along by my hand, we proceeded further into the depths of the dungeon.
On the way, we passed by the cells of Miss Claire and Count Tito.
Ahead of them were the commoner extremists who had been arrested; their imprisonment had caused the prison to reach max capacity.
As we approached the deepest depths of the dungeon, the dark atmosphere strengthened, and even the torch’s light slowly dimmed.

“Is it even further in?”
“Yes, that’s right.”

Uu… was that so.
Even though I’m so not good with dark places like this.
Loud dripping noises from droplets of some kind falling down echoed loudly.
The damp odor overpowered my nose.
If I were to be imprisoned in a place like this, I reaaally don’t think I could remain sane…

“Achille, we’re at a dead end, y’know?”
“This place will be it.”
“Eh…?”

At a dead end in the deepest area of the dungeon, Achille hung his hand on an enormous iron door.
The door was rusty in several places, and I could feel the dungeon’s history.
Achille took out an old-fashioned key from his breast pocket and put it into the keyhole.
With a loud, unpleasant creak, the door slowly opened.

“Come in.”

Though I hesitated a little bit after seeing the pitch black interior of the iron door, after strengthening my resolve, I took a single step forward.
As if he realized that I was a little bit scared… Achille immediately came to my side and wrapped his arm around my back.
Though it was natural for him to do so, I couldn’t calm down at all since in this stance, we were glued surprisingly close to each other.

Using magic to illuminate the darkness with our fingertips, we walked through the darkness, and after a few minutes, we arrived in front of a big iron fence.

“We’re here.”
“I-It’s here?”

It was even further inside of the strictly maintained dungeon than I expected.
So such a peculiar person was inside a cell in this pitch black place, huh.
If I was detained in a place like this for several days, I’d go mad… maybe, that’s what they were aiming for with this room.
W-Was it a torture room?
When I looked at Achille as if asking him that, he smiled at me as if telling me not to worry.
I’m not comforted in the least.

“Yo, if it isn’t Camille Rhodolite.”

All of a sudden, a male voice resounded from inside the cell. It was a voice I was familiar with.
The throaty voice of a hateful man who had caused a major incident a little while ago, the one who who had given me a hard time.

“Achille… I was wondering if maybe this was the case, but the kind-hearted person who volunteered to help out with the experiment was really…”
“… Though he was previously the leader of the commoner extremists who occupied the town.”
“W-W-Why Galaf Sharohm?”

Because it was too much, my voice went shrill.
Why did the enemy, Galaf, want to help out with the experiments?
Moreover, Achille said that it was voluntary. H… How strange!
When I timidly approached the cell, I could make out his figure inside.
Though his arms and legs were shackled in chains, in addition to this kind of environment, he hadn’t broken. Instead, he was full of vigor.
The Jack of Clovers… was the owner of this tenacious force of will.

“Ah…”

The chains that were restraining him were magic items specially designed to seal prisoners’ magical powers.
Ironically, these were made from the same materials used for the tiger traps that Galaf had used to trap me.
Because he was an opponent who used forbidden magic as if without a care, I think these were natural measures.

“Hey, the heartless person standing there! I’ll do my part of the bargain, but will you keep your promise?”

Galaf shouted as he faced Achille, who was standing behind me.
Achille scowled unhappily.

“… Isn’t that obvious.”
“I can’t believe you!”
“So you’re saying that it’d be fine to pretend this conversation had never happened… it’s fine if I interpret this situation like that, right?”
“…!”

At that moment, Galaf sunk into silence.
I wonder what the deal was…
Of all the people, picking Galaf as the target for experimentation, just what in the world was Achille thinking?
I was fixedly staring at him.

“Don’t worry about it Camille. I’ve gotten permission from the higher-ups, and he agreed to it too.”
“… But is it really alright?”
“It’s alright to do it to your heart’s content. And if by any chance you fail, it’ll be okay, rather, what if you failed on purpose once or twice?”
“Hey! Are you still carrying a grudge against me! Hey, Camille. Stop dating this vindictive boyfriend, how about swapping him with me?”
“Please don’t act too familiar with Camille. Also, I’m her husband.”

How was he not affected in the least by this…
Galaf Sharohm, who could leisurely converse even in a situation like this, was a guy you couldn’t make light of.
His massive nerves were impudent, and his spirit held steady.

“Achille, can we just start the experiment already?”

If the higher-ups gave the A-ok, there shouldn’t be any problems, right.
I was reluctant to use someone else as the subject for an experiment, but right now, I was determined to perfect the tattoo that would reliably defend against forbidden magic.
After Achille opened the lock, I entered the cell, went up to Galaf, who was bound and unable to move, and ran my finger down his right wrist as I used magic to draw a chain pattern..

“Heh, skillful aren’t you. So you used this kind of thing to invalidate my forbidden magic that time, didn’t you?”

Galaf, who was looking out of the side of his eye, raised his voice, amused.
Even though my tattoos caused his plans to fail back when we went to exterminate them, he didn’t harbor a grudge against this kind of thing, huh.
What in the world could be his objective in supporting the extremists…

The chains were instantly completed. After that, all I had to do was to cast forbidden magic to test the efficacy.

THE REINCARNATED VAMPIRE WANTS AN AFTERNOON NAP – 03

Re・Verse

“… Fumu”

I open my eyes as my consciousness returns and see that I’m standing in the middle of some ruins.

No matter how you look at it, it’s all in ruins. To top it off, it’s on the scale of a village.

There are buildings in decay as far as the eye can see. There isn’t even a single trace of a person.

It seems I reincarnated, however, my height is exactly the same as my previous life, so my viewpoint hasn’t changed. This, it seems more like I just came to another world instead of being reborn into it.

I thought that for a brief moment, but then I saw myself reflected in a piece of broken glass and changed my opinion.

Long silver hair and red eyes. A face that gave off the feeling of an unrivaled beauty reflected from it.

I tried making a peace sign and the girl also made one, so it’s definitely me, but I’m a 100% full-blooded Japanese. Also, while I did have a feminine face, I was definitely a guy.

In other words, I have been reincarnated. It’s just a guess, but vampires might be born as adults. Therefore, even though I have been reincarnated, I don’t feel any sort of discomfort. I open my mouth and see long, sharp canines growing there. Yup, it’s completely vampirish.

“Well, starting off as a baby is tiresome.”

My gender has changed… well, I’m in the wrong for not specifying, so I guess it’s fine. My crotch feels a bit sparse, but if it’s just that much, I can ignore it. Ah, my chest doesn’t feel strange at all. From what I can see, I’m flat. Still, to be born in a ruin…

… Loligramps-san, this is slightly different from what I had thought of.

Sure the weather is calm, the temperature is warm, and there’s a nice breeze. The air also tastes good and it’s the perfect environment for a nap. But seriously, to drop me off in these ruins.

… Well, it might be a little different from what I was expecting, but it’s not actually wrong, so I guess it’s fine.

The location fits my wishes. Let’s just say everything is fine for now.

Next would be that I’m naked. I was able to realise I had become a girl because of this. Since no one can see me, I guess it’s fine if I’m naked.

When I enter one of the nearby ruins, I spot a bed inside. It looks like it hasn’t been used in ages and is slightly falling apart, but it can still be slept on.

Well, the surroundings offset any complaints I have about it. Half the roof has caved in and some light and a breeze leak in; it’s very pleasant. Vampires are usually weak to the sun, so it’s a good thing I grabbed Sunlight-resistance.

“Ah~…

This, this is happiness.

Let’s sleep. Let’s drift off straight away. Right now.

Obeying my desires, I fell asleep. I continued sleeping to my heart’s content.

Ah, shoot, this is the best… Funya~…

A vampire’s need for food and water is weak, so I was able to sleep without a single worry in the world.

Because I haven’t ingested anything, I have no need for the bathroom. What wonderful days of slothfulness. Viva sloth!

I’m a bit upset there isn’t a bath, however, with high level healing magic, it’s possible to remove dirt from the body. I should’ve maxed out that stat.

The reason why I can understand the effects of my skills, is because it sorta just pops up in my head. It’s easiest to explain it as the feeling of an instructions manual in my head. Following the steps, I’m able to exert the skill’s effect.

“Become clean… Guu…” (Said like a maid blessing your omurice)

Normally, to activate magic, you need to concentrate and recite an incantation, but by pouring in more mana, you can omit it. Because I have the Enhanced Magic Power Skill, it’s only natural I can do this.

It’s a pain to concentrate and recite an incantation, so of course I omitted it and instantly activated the magic. You still need a short keyphrase to activate the magic however, so I randomly came up with one.

In that fashion I periodically woke up to clean my body with healing magic. Three days passed uneventfully. As expected, if you slept that long, your stomach would start to feel empty. My throat is also pretty dry. The dryness of my throat is especially bad, it’s at a point where I can’t quietly sleep it off.

“Ah-… it might have been better if I had become a race that didn’t need to eat.”

It’s kinda late to be complaining about it, so for now, let’s head out to find some water. This is my first time exploring another world, but I just can’t get excited for it. I have my mind preoccupied with images of a futon. Ah, I want to return quickly.

While I was thinking about how blindly searching around is suuuper tiresome… a strange aroma assaulted my nose.

“Now that I think about it, my sense of smell was also strengthened.”

I was forced to learn all my skills, so I remember them. I also have the instruction manuals floating around in my head for reference. It was a pain, but Loligramp’s nagging helped me learn. I was asleep half the time though.

Slightly focusing my conscious onto the aroma gave me a rough idea of what the smell was.

“… It’s the scent of blood.”

It’s not stench, it’s scent.

The current me doesn’t find the aroma unpleasant, instead it just sparks my appetite.

Ah, it looks like I’ve really become a vampire. I have a strong desire to drink blood and I can correctly recognize the scent of it. Being tempted by the pleasant smell, I ran after it.

“Woah, fast.”

Soon after I started running, I was surprised at how fast I was going. I wasn’t even at full speed, yet the ruins I slept in are just specks in the distance now. I was so shocked, I stopped and turned around.

I’m probably much faster than a car. Maxing out speed is amazing.

… With this speed, wouldn’t it be possible to do acrobatics?

Thinking this, I ran at a nearby wall… ohh. I’m climbing it, I’m climbing it.

While still being pulled down by gravity, I forcibly run up the wall and soon find myself on the roof.

Crap, this is pretty fun. It’s no match when compared to sleeping, but it sure makes your heart flutter.

“Well then, I think it came from that way.”

I stare hard at the place where the smell came from… like staring through a telescope, my vision zooms in and lets me clearly observe distant objects. This is the effect of the  Enhanced Vision skill.

Far away in the distance, I start to see the source of the smell.

“… It looks to be bandits chasing merchants.”

Three vulgar-looking men on horseback were chasing a large horse drawn cart.

Even while bleeding from their forehead, the one grasping the cart’s reins was desperately forcing their horses forward. It’s obvious that the ones chasing the cart are nimbler though. It doesn’t look like the cart can outrun them.

“… Might as well go.”

To tell the truth, it’s a massive pain, but it can’t be helped if it will quench my thirst.

I want to finish tiresome things quickly, so I sprint in a straight line for the area.

Everybody, please check the FAQ first before asking me questions.
If it’s not on there, please feel free and ask. I only get annoyed at questions when the same one has been asked 10+ times, and by then I’ll have updated the FAQ.

Thank you for your consideration, guys!

Today, at Kasumi-sama’s invitation, I was having lunch at the Pivoine seats. I feel like I’ve been eating nothing but sweet foods recently, so today I went with a healthy spring greens and bacon pasta.

“I heard that you planned a lunch event for your class,” she said with a teasing expression.

I’ll bet this is about how I used her name on Tomoe-senpai.

“Yes, both the Student Council President and the cafeteria staff happily agreed, you see. Thanks to that, everybody was able to have a pleasant lunch together.”

“My! Huhu,” she laughed.

Suddenly, some others joined our conversation.

“Was there any need to go out of your way to ask the Student Council? Why, it almost seems as though the Student Council is ranked above us.”

“Yeah. When everything’s said and done, it’s us Pivoine that’s the highest here at Zui’ran.”

Oh dear~ Things have become annoying.
The Pivoine Supremecists really hate the Student Council after all.
Kasumi-sama was hanging her head awkwardly. Considering their reactions, it would be impossible to come clean about her boyfriend.
Unlike middle school, the tensions between the Pivoine and Student Council are quite pronounced here.
It’s probably because the power of the Student Council is a lot greater in the high school section. Well, considering who our current StuCo President is though, I doubt it’ll turn into an all-out confrontation, but still…

“Because I am still only a new student, I felt that perhaps it would be safer to notify the Student Council as well. However, if my conduct has caused anybody discomfort, I am truly very sorry…”

“Ah, no, it’s not your fault, Reika-san. Sorry about that. Just don’t worry about it.”

Once I started acting feeble and pitiful, they backed down surprisingly quickly. Uhehe.
That was the end of that, and lunch progressed peacefully again. Both Kaburagi and Enjou occasionally joined in on the conversation too. Apparently they weren’t going to join a club. Although, it seemed that a lot of sports clubs invited them.

“Which club did you want to join, Reika-sama? I heard that you went to check them out.”

“Yes, although I am still having trouble deciding…”

Although, the truth is that there are a few cultural clubs that I want to enter. But all of them are filled with quiet kids, so it would be like a sudden wolf in a pen of little rabbits. They definitely wouldn’t welcome me.

“How about the Tea Ceremony Club or the Flower Arrangement Club?”

“I have teachers that I have been learning both under since young, so there is really no reason to join those clubs as well.”

“I see. Is there anything else you wanted?”

“At first I was interested in the sports clubs, but…”

Suddenly, Kaburagi and Enjou glanced my way. What the heck. So what if I wanted to join a sports club.
It’s true that I don’t have a good history with mountain climbing but my P.E. results are at least average, okay! And didn’t I do pretty well during the Athletics Carnival!
It’s not that I’m bad at sports. I’m just lacking the willpower, okay.

“I’ve heard that the Zui’ran sports clubs lean towards the intense side. Wouldn’t it be a little harsh for you, Reika-sama?”

“Yes. I realised that it was impossible for me after having a look.”

I heard Kaburagi and Enjou quietly stifling their laughter. Annoying.

“Huuuh~? These seats are free, guys~”

At that moment, Wakaba-chan suddenly came this way with a bentou.
No way! Why!?
I got careless because of how far into lunch break we were. Did her class get held back or something!?
The plate! Where’s the plate that says they’re Pivoine only!? It’s gonee! Who was it!? Who was it that removed it!?
As Wakaba-chan came over with an innocent smile, the atmosphere around the Pivoine senpais grew severe. This is bad… It seemed like the Pivoine Supremecists would explode at any moment.

“U-Umm! These seats are reserved for our use only, so normal students cannot sit here, you know?”

Before I knew it I had stood up and warned Wakaba-chan.
For a moment she stared blankly as our eyes met. Then she turned around and found her pale friends, and finally realised that she was in trouble.

“I’m sorry! I didn’t realise. I sincerely apologise,” she exclaimed as she bowed, low, before rushing back to her friends.

Safe!

“What was that meant to be. A new External? Let’s find her name later and issue a formal warning. She’s setting a bad example for the rest.”

“That girl did not seem as though she belonged here. Could it be that she was a scholarship student?”

“That’d make things all the worse.”

Gegeh-!

“Umm! There is really no need to go that far. I am sure she is simply still acclimating. Could you perhaps turn the other way just this once?”

“However…”

“Of course it would not do to simply leave things, so I will personally talk to her class representative to give her a warning, as well as properly teach her about the Pivoine. Please?”

“…Then just this one time, in deference to you, Reika-san.”

“…Yes. If Reika-san is willing to go that far, then…”

“My! Thank you very much!”

Scaryyy~ The Pivoine is so scaryyyy~
There’s no need to get so angry just because somebody wanted to sit in a chair, okay~?
And Wakaba-chan, you’re way too careless. The friends with you all noticed, didn’t they? And friends of Wakaba-chan, you’re supposed to tell her. Don’t just go pale and stand there.

Also, all throughout this little drama, Kaburagi and Enjou continued eating like nothing…

But wow, what happened just now was that scene when Kisshouin Reika got angry and screamed “Know your place!” at Wakaba-chan, right?
In the manga, the whole cafeteria went silent, and made Wakaba-chan rather infamous right at the start of school. It marked the beginning of a lot of troubles.
Still, I managed to avoid it, right? Although I did sort of stand up and warn her without much thought. I mean, things would have gotten extremely troublesome had I stayed still.
Aahh, but what happened was almost like the manga… Uu, my stomach is kinda hurting again.
But I’ll make sure to finish this pasta. Vegetables are good for you, after all.

*

*

I spoke to her class representative about what happened at lunch, and asked them to discreetly teach the new students what to watch out for.

It’d be nice if there was a Pivoine manual or something, though. Perhaps I’ll have a word with Tomoe-senpai about it…
