Because Miss Camille was taken away by Achille… right now, only His Highness and I are left in the room.
What an incredibly awkward silence.
I wonder if this is His Highness’ office or something.
There are documents in the corner of the tidy desk, but a large amount of documents are stored away on the bookshelf.

“Welcome to my room, Beatrix.”

With an unreadable smile, His Highness Royce caled out to me.
Kuh- …It’s come!

Beautiful blonde hair, and azure-coloured eyes.
Just by standing there, the place becomes more gorgeous. …It’s that sort of feeling.

“‘My room’ you say?”

This is… His Highness’ room? I got myself brought to his room?
Hey, Miss Camille! What do you mean by this!? Come back!
Even if I blame my friend, I’ve already been brought here. There’s nothing I can do now.

“You don’t have to be that nervous, you know? I won’t do anything after all.”

“…! I-, I have no such worries-!

“I seee.”

What’s with this? Even though I was prepared to lay on one or two or three or four complaints… I had my enthusiasm stolen from me.
I better pull myself together and really let him have it!

“What do you mean by this-? T-, To do something like getting engaged to me… And what’s more, in a completely arbitrary way!”

“Ahh, that. You didn’t hear anything at all, I see.”

His Highness gave me a pitying look with a troubled expression.
Why are you making such a face!
Even though the one troubled here is me.

“I honeslty wanted to go through the proper steps for this, but the situation wouldn’t allow me, you see. I’ll apologise for taking a slightly forceful approach to it… Sorry.”

“This does not fall in the boundaries of ‘slightly’! I-, I do believe that I told Your Highness that I could not answer your feelings.”

If I remember correctly, I certainly did tell him my feelings.

“Hmm. I don’t think that I said a word about giving up though.”

His Highness flashed the same smile that he did at the time.

“Wha-…”

He didn’t seem to have the slightest intention of backing down.

“Your love was unrequited, right?”

“W-, Well yes, but?”

It seems that he hasn’t been able to narrow it down to who the person actually was.

“I have no intention of becoming your wife. Even if you keep me with your authority, please know that my heart won’t act as you want.”

“Could it be… that I’m really hated? This sure is troubling.”

A complete change from before, now he was looking at me with an expression that didn’t look troubled in the slightest.
His clear, blue eyes were very beautiful. Those irises of his alone are just like his cousin’s…
(gasp)Hah-! …This isn’t the time for escapism.

“…”

I don’t know what he was thinking about, but His Highness was observing me with a stare.

“U-, Umm.”

“It’s already late, and I’m sure that you’re tired. A room has been prepared, so feel free to rest there.”

“Hah-, eh-, umm.”

While I was feeling nervous, I was brought out of the room by the maids, and was moved to the neighbouring room.

“Please rest as you wish in this room.”

It was a neatly arranged room. It was probably prepared just for me.
With white as the base colour, small things in light purple were placed here and there.
When the dor closed, the room was instantly filled with silence.

“I wonder what I’m going to do from now on.”

No, well, becoming His Highness Royce’s bride is a given though. I’m feeling kind of really depressed.

“Even though things weren’t meant to turn out like this.”

There’s nothing I can do at this point.

I’m regretting the fact that I didn’t abuse him as much as I wanted earlier.
Even though I should have cursed him more, for some reason when I’m in front of the person himself, my enthusiasm gets dampened.
Apologising to me like that… It’s cheating.
Even though it would’ve been great had he been more villainous.

While feeling gloomy with no place to run to, I lay down on the wide bed.
It doesn’t feel like I’ll get any sleep tonight.

Ah, I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this before, but anime girls go ‘mukiiiiiiii!’ when angry. I think it was originally a sound effect that was a corruption of ‘mukatuku’, but not entirely sure. At any rate, it’s an onomatopoeia that represents ‘getting pissed off’, but anime characters are weird in that they actually read out such onomatopoeia so yeah. The monkey-esque ones do this in particular (like Catherine or Wakaba for example).

Ah, also, the ‘Mm~mn’ is a sound that goes ‘mm(high)-mm(low)-mm(mid)’ also written as ‘Uun’. It’s basically the opposite of the English ‘Mhm’, and is a sound that you make to signify a ‘no’. You hear it sometimes in English as well, but it’s nowhere near as standard as in Japanese.

“How depressing.”

I gazed at the gradually darkening sky from inside the palanquin.
Neither the luxurious Topagerian styled clothing prepared for this day, nor the various ornaments I was wearing offered my heart any consolation.

“Huu, in the end I wasn’t even able to see Baka-sama’s face, huh…?”

This alone couldn’t be helped. As nothing more than a noble girl, I’m not in a position to give my opinion after receiving an order from the state.
Both Baka-sama and my groom are royalty, so I might be able to see him again.

I wonder if it’s about time that we arrive at the castle.
The surroundings have suddenly gotten noisier.

“Beatrix-sama, please do not leave the palanquin.”

The maid that accompanied me said this in a voice filled with tension.

“Why? What’s going on?”

Unable to bear with it, I flew out of the palanquin.
The moment that I did, a nearby man charged at me with a blade.
An assassin?
Troublingly, I wasn’t wearing my sword at the moment, so I took up a stance to fight barehandedly.

“Beatrix! Go back!”

The moment that I was about to take a step forward, a familiar voice called out from above.
And at the same time, a bolt of lightning struck right into the apparent assassin.

“Miss Camille?”

“Looks like you aren’t injured, huh. Sorry, something a little annoying came up. I’ll immediately fix it up.”

Saying that, Miss Camille landed nearby. Her pink hair fluttered in the night wind.
In her left hand was an enlargened quill. She was probably using this to fly in the sky.

“A part of the Royal Prince Faction has been running rampant you see.”

“…Am I, being targettined?”

That man had turned his blade against me.

“Mn. There are some idiots thinking that they’d hurt you, and drag the King Faction’s name through the mud.”

They certainly are idiots.
I wonder if the Royal Prince Faction is trying to drag the Topagerian King’s name through the mud instead.

After a while, the calm returned to my surroundings. It seems that all the assassins have been apprehended.
A number of burly Garnet knights came towards me.
Leading them was…

“Ra…”

Raiga Transbaal!
With silver hair and blue eyes, there stood the prince that I worshipped.

“Sorry. Some of my father’s subordinates did something stupid.”

“Y-, Yeah…”

The real live Raiga, just now, spoke to me!
I know that he’s Mei’s Danna-sama, but my heart fluttered despite myself.

“Are you alright?”

“Y-, Yes-!”

“Geez, Raiga-sama. If they’re your subordinates then at least keep a proper eye on them please~”

Miss Camille is actually complaining to that Raiga-sama!

“So noisy. I can send this words right back at Royce.”

“Mukiiiiiii!”

It seems that Miss Camille and Raiga are close. They’re cracking jokes at each other.

“Beatrix, let’s go.”

“Miss Camille? Eh-…”

She suddenly pulled my arm, and sat me down on the quill.

“Hold on tight, okay? Raiga-samaaa! I’ll leave the rest to youuu.”

“Ah-, oi! Tattoo woman! Are you trying to push all the bothersome stuff onto me!?”

Ignoring Raiga’s scream, Miss Camille flew towards the castle, with me on the broom as well.

“Don’t worry. I had the bridal procession continue all the way until the castle. As though nothing happened, you see.”

Camille smiled cheekily.
It seems that after I flew away, the bridal procession carried the empty palanquin to the castle.

Our surroundings are already completely covered by the darkness of the night.
It was a luxurious outfit, but the Topagerian bridal costume I was wearing had a lot of exposure, so the night wind was cold. The outfit I was wearing today was the one for welcoming the bride, and on the day of the wedding, I’ll be wearing something different.

“Aren’t you cold, Miss Camille?”

Under her robe, she was wearing a vest, blouse and skirt; the common clothing for female magicians in this country.

“Hmm, it’s cold but I guess I’m used to it. Ahh, you’re cold, aren’t you? Wear this.”

With that, she tried to give me her robe.

“That won’t do. You’ll get cold, Miss Camille.”

“I see.”

After saying that, Miss Camille lit up a number of flames around the quill in succession.
Seeing them float in the dark night felt a little fantastical.

“Is the cold any better?”

“Eh-, yeah.”

It certainly does feel warm around the flames.

“I have magic for blowing warm and and stuff, but they have the downside of drying your skin. Should I try mixing in steam with it?”

“Nah… This much is plenty.”

I grew up in the desert, so It’s not like I’m that sensitive to the cold.

After intruding on the castle grounds, she headed for the window of a noticably high tower.

“It’s fine. The assassins are all finished after all.”

“That’s not what I was worried about.”

All the assassins or whatever were probably caught back there.

“Hey, Beatrix?”

“What’s up?”

“It might be weird coming from me, but…”

It seemed that Miss Camille was struggling to pit the words out, but eventually those small and pretty lips parted.

“Royce-sama is a good person, you see. Get along, okay?”

“…”

Royce Garnet.
My biggest worry at this moment.
The hated man that basically used a sneak attack to have me wedded into Garnet.
Sorry to Miss Camille, but I don’t feel like getting along with him in the slightest, so I gave her a vague smile.
Still on the broom, she headed through the window into the building.

“I have returneddd! I spotted Beatrix-sama, so I kind of brought her along as well!”

“Thanks, Camille.”

Standing next to His Highness Royce as he thanked Camille with a broad smile, was Achille who was giving off an incredibly dark aura. Scary! Since I knew what he was like in the game, it was incredibly scary!

“Achille, I’m back~”

I gazed at Miss Camille with a look of respect, as she ignored his aura and ran over to him.

“You said that you wouldn’t get involved in any fights, right? So then why did you attack the enemy?”

“Mn~? What are you talking about~?”

“It’s pointless to try and fool me. Thanks to that ring, I know all the things that you’re guilty of.”

“Geh-! You can tell that much?”

As Miss Camille tried to run for it, Achille caught her by the scruff of the neck…

“You broke our promise, didn’t you?”

Achille who was whispering in an elegant and sexy voice sounded somewhat happy, contrary to his words.

“I-, I’m sorry! I’m very sorryyy! I won’t do it againnn!”

On the other hand, for some reason Miss Camille’s eyes were getting more and more teary.

“Shall we go?”

Just like that, Miss Camille was dragged out through the door…

“Hang on, Achille. I said that I’d be borrowing Camille for the evening, didn’t I?”

“You did borrow her. The time limit has passed. Please work something out on your own for the rest.”

Achille ignored his lord’s orders… Since this was also different from the game, it was refreshing.

“R-, ROYCE-SAM-…”

-BANG-
…The shutting door cut off the rest of Miss Camille’s cry for help.

“My my, Camille might end up useless until tomorrow evening now.”

So muttered His Highness Royce as he looked at the door with a complicated expression.

The Bathroom Goddess – Chapter 2

Chapter 2

Teo Keh couldn’t calm down, and paced around the pavillion.

Although the thick pavillion was blocking the sun above his head, the temperature inside the pavillion was still quite hot.

However, Teo Keh neither opened a window, nor pulled up the hanging curtain that covered the entrance, and merely traced a circle on the floor, as though following the pattern of the carpet with his foot.

―――――They still haven’t? They still haven’t found him?

His forehead ran with sweat, and his prided moustache had lost its lustre.

Teo Keh had served under the first king of the Kingdom of Yohk’Zai, Tenuhg, before he had revived the country, and had supported him.

When Tenuhg had revived the country he was 31, but at the time Teo Keh was only a youth in his teens. However, seeing through Teo Keh’s exceptional talent for politics, Tenuhg appointed him as prime minister when he was only halfway through his twenties.

The newly revived young country continued on vigorously to absorb ten odd clans, and two small countries in its surroundings, and in a flash had risen to become a great nation that controlled almost all of the Zaharya.

Tenuhg was a hero. At the very least, he was a hero to Teo Keh and the citizens of Yohk’Zai.

Tenuhg possessed a tenacious body and powerful vitality that matched his status as a hero, and he continued governing Yohk’Zai as a strong king, until he died at 71 years of age in the bed of his favourite, and 48-years junior, concubine.

However, a hero does not necessarily have heroes as children.
The 46 year old successor of Tenuhg, Iyoh, was merely a kind-hearted man.

Had he been born to a commoner in the city, he would probably have lived a fortunate and happy life.

Unfortunately, Iyoh was born as the son of Tenuhg. There was no way that a recently risen, and still unsettled country was suitable for a kind and gentle ruler.

The result was that in only four years, the kingdom was meeting its decline.

Had Iyoh been a fool who hadn’t noticed the disaster of his nation, or an unrepentent man who had grown cocky from becoming the king, the situation may still have been better. However, he was neither of these things. Lamenting his own weakness, unable to bear the pressure, growing thinner in a flash, and then finally succumbing to illness and leaving this world too son.

His reign had only lasted 4 years and a few days. It ended when Iyoh had just turned 50.

What was worse, was that Iyoh had no son.

Naturally, there was a dispute over the successor. It seemed that a struggle for the throne would break out between the two son-in-laws of Iyoh, and the sons of Tenuhg that were the younger half-brothers of Iyoh. You could say that they were on the eve of such a war.

――――――FOOLS!

Teo Keh could not believe their stupidity.
If it became an internal war, then even the dissatisfaction of the affiliated clans and nations would turn towards them. To him, it was obvious what future a scattered and separated country held.

While days went as he continued to kick away and reject invitations to each faction, one day, he recalled a certain servant woman that he had driven out from the palace a long time ago.

Despite being a servant who did the laundry, perhaps as a prank of god, when she was 14, of all things, she began a relationship with Iyoh.

By the time Teo Keh had realised it, she was already with child.

A child with a woman of no standing. What’s more, Iyoh was not an adult yet.

Teo Keh gave the woman money, and expelled her from the castle.

And like that, Teo Keh told Iyoh that she had happily accepted the consolation money, and left after having an abortion.

However, the truth was different. She did not abort the child.
Teo Keh had been prepared to even use force to make her do so, but the woman cried and clung to him.

She didn’t want power nor riches. She just wanted to give birth to the child conceived between her and the person she loved. She wouldn’t cause trouble for Iyoh or anybody else. She just begged Teo Keh for permission to give birth.

Seeing the crying woman holding her belly, Teo Keh couldn’t bring himself to do it.

After promising to never name the father, and to live in a faraway land, he let the woman go.

Had that child been a boy… thought Teo Keh.

It was the child of a woman he had driven from the castle himself.

He knew that he was being selfish. However, he had no other plans left.

And so Teo Keh followed the woman’s footsteps, and discovered that she had given birth to a boy.

Whether it was fortune or misfortune, the woman had passed away ten years ago. Hearing that the boy with Iyoh’s blood was working as a member of a desert merchant group, Teo Keh secretly sent soldiers to find him.

But this was the result.

The ray of light that he had found after much trouble had had his merchant group attacked by bandits, and by the time the merchants were located, their remains were buried beneath the sand.

When Teo Keh received the news, he began planning the escape of his clan to outside the country.

However, no matter how they dug up the sand, they couldn’t find a man like him. The only bodies they found were those of men in their prime, and in the end, they couldn’t find the man who should have been 35.

Though out of character, Teo Keh wanted to thank god.

However, the circumstances being what they were, he couldn’t predict the result, and their time was limited. What’s more, the only clue were the earrings that Iyoh had given the woman. Inherited from his mother, they were earrings made of the blue rock lip’se, that he had never parted from in these past ten years. If they hadn’t been taken by bandits, then they should still have been hanging from his ears.

Teo Keh prayed. He prayed with all his heart.

After continuing his silent prayer with his eyes closed, when he parted his eyelids again, he doubted his eyes.

“…Again? Give me a break…”

And then, he doubted his ears.

“Woman… What are you doing?”

What he saw before him was a strange, strange, scene.

As though a rectangle had been cut from it, a certain part of the pavilion scenery had changed, and inside it, was a woman with honey coloured skin, but in an appearance that was basically naked, she was standing there with bubbles dripping from her, clenching tightly a pink object.

“Well, I’m cleaning the bath. Problem?”

“Cleaning the bath? Is that a bath over there?”

“That’s right. A bath. What are you doing? You don’t seem to be stranded, do you.”

“I am not stranded but… What exactly is going on? Are you a user of the dark arts?”

Teo Keh noticed that his own voice had trembled when he asked the question.

“Huh? Dark arts? As if I can use something like that. Isn’t this something that you did?”

“Absurd!”

When he accidentally raised his voice, the woman’s shoulders trembled with a start.
The woman looked frightened, but in the next moment her expression turned angry.

“Hey! Don’t raise your voice like that. I don’t know what’s going on either! I mean, just last night a stranded man appeared, and now there’s a full-bellied and arrogant old man. What’s going on…”

Her vigour was only there for the beginning, and her voice quickly wilted. Seeing the confused and frowning woman who seemed like she would cry at any moment, Teo Keh became flustered. He was fundamentally somebody weak to the tears of women after all.

“S-, Sorry… I got a little excited, didn’t I? Apologies.”

After giving her face a wipe with her slender, bare arm, she tightly pressed her lips together.
Seeing that she wasn’t going to start crying, Teo Keh felt relieved.

“But still, what on earth is this?”

It was a scene that seemed stranger the longer you looked.

This space had suddenly appeared in the dark red pavillion.

This space that opened from his hips to above his head looked just like a painting floating in the air.

However, a painting where the person in it moved, and talked. And what’s more, where the person was a woman in a strange appearance.

Teo Keh stared hard at the woman.

Her pale skin was similar to the people of the north, but despite that, her facial features were quite flat.

The clothing she was wearing was also quite strange. A light blue cloth covered only her chest and hips, and only a string covered her shoulders. As for her legs, everything from the thighs down were laid bare. Despite that, this woman showed no signs of embarassment, and was calm.

“Heyy, could it be that you’re troubled for water?”

“…Water? My water supplies are not particularly troubling, but…”

Teo Keh frowned. While tilting his head and wondering why this woman thought he was troubled for water, he suddenly gasped.

“Did you say that something like this had happened before? You said “again” earlier, did you not?”

If his memories weren’t mistaken, that was her first line.

The woman had experienced this before. And that person was somebody in need of water.

Teo Keh was agitated enough that it felt like the bottom of his guts would jump up.

“What type of person… What type of person was the one that you met!? Was he not wearing a pair of blue earrings!?”

It felt like he was being pulled by a fine thread.

Teo Keh leaned forward in excitement, and tightly gripped the silver frame of the rectangular hole.

“Y-, Yes. He was, but?”

It really was him!

To he who hadn’t believed in the gods even a little, in this moment his faith had taken a 180 degree turn.

“Ohhh! God! I thank you. What were the earrings made of? What kind of design were they? Please tell me in detail.”

“I don’t mind, but…”

Seeing Teo Keh’s breath getting more and more wild, the woman leaned backwards, and raising her arms, she showed her palms to try and calm him down.

“Um, well… could you not get mad?”

Perhaps feeling guilty about something, the woman suddenly looked away from him.

“W-, what’s the matter?”

The woman took something from a clear, rectangular shelf that was attached to the wall, before slowly presenting it to Teo Keh.

“This is-!?”

Teo Keh’s eyes widened.

Those earrings were undoubtedly the ones he had been looking for. Tenuhg had given these to Iyoh’s mother, the queen, and after she passed, they were passed to Iyoh, and from Iyoh they were passed to the girl that he loved, and from her, they were inherited by the child she had given birth to; it was unmistakably those pair of lip’se earrings.

But something had happened, and those earrings were only half their original size.

“Ohhh, ohhhh, what a thing to have happened.”

Receiving the earrings from the woman, Teo Keh shut his eyes.

The place where it had been cut was more beautiful than he had ever seen it. The one who had cut this was surely a person of great skill. If there was a person like that amongst the bandits, then…

Teo Keh conjectured that the prince had died, and sank to his knees defeated.

He, no, Yohk’Zai, had lost their hope.

“Umm. I’m really sorry about this. I didn’t think that you’d get this depressed. Um, it wasn’t on purpose, you know? I have no idea how it happened either, after all. To think that it would disappear once you brought it out of the bathroom. Nobody would have expected that, right?”

“…Hah?”

Hearing the woman’s words, Teo Keh lost what he was going to say next.

“It disappeared. When I tried to take the earrings out of the bathroom, the parts that went past the boundary of the door disappeared! Ah-, don’t ask me “WHY!?” okay? I have no idea either, after all.”

The woman frantically tried to explain, in an anxious voice. It was an incredibly unbelievable story, but the woman didn’t seem to be lying.

“It disappeared…”

If this was true, then it was something for Teo Keh to celebrate.

“Then the one who was wearing these earrings was safe then?”

Teo Keh gulped.

“Yeah, he was. For a stranded person, he was pretty lively.”

“Truly!?”

When he bent his body through the window, the woman took a step back as though overpowered, and quietly nodded.

“And what of that person? Where did they go?”

“Where? …Ah-, if I remember correctly, he said that he was headed to an oasis town in the east. And the place that we met was the Zaharya. He said that he had left the desert, and certainly, that place was more a wasteland than a desert, but sand flew in from that window and it was pretty rough cleaning it up, so maybe he had only just left the desert, huh?”

“Did he have a ruba?”

“A ruba? What’s that?”

Teo Keh couldn’t answer the woman’s question.

From the woman’s reaction, there didn’t seem to be a ruba with him.

Had he been pulling a ruba along, the woman’s reaction would have probably been different after all.

With his eyes shut, in Teo Keo’s mind he projected the dizzying map of Zaharya. Zaharya was huge. There was probably no merchant stupid enough to walk through it during the day without a ruba, nor sufficient water or food. For a man to go by foot from the place of the bandit attack, walking only at night, it would take him 3 or 4 days to leave the desert. After that, walking for a whole day without stop, he would reach a major trade route. If he sought help on a trade route with many merchants coming and going, then there was no mistake that he would be reaching the oasis town around now.

“Girl! I thank you. Because of you, the lives of the innocent people in this nation may have been saved. No, rather, we will save them.”

“Ha-, hah… That sounds like a lot of work. Ummm, please try your best.”

The woman’s mouth twitched in bewilderment.

She didn’t know about the circumstances of Teo Keh’s side after all, so it couldn’t be helped. Teo Keh lowered his gaze to the earrings in his hand, before fixing his stance, and looking at the woman.

“I am the prime minister of Yohk’Zai, Teo Keh. Won’t you give me these earrings? I am willing to compensate as much as you want for them.”

There were a clue towards the prince that he had finally found. Teo Keh couldn’t help but feel that if he parted from these, the ray of hope that he had finally found again, would once more be lost.

“Eh-, that’s totally fine. To begin with, it was something I traded for water after all.”

Teo Keh was on guard, wondering if she would complain for an extravagant sum, but the woman readily agreed.

“What do you wish in return for this? Gold? Jewels?”

When Teo Keh said this, the woman frowned, and then sighed.

“I see. It wasn’t good to take something for free, right? …Ummm, well then, please bring me any old rock lying around.”

More than admiration, what Teo Keh felt was astonishment. What a greedless woman.

“Are you fine with that? If you so wish, we could receive you with an appropriate position in our country, you know?”

When they were too unselfish, it instead made you uneasy.

“Eh? I don’t need something like that.”

Teo Keh’s eyes seemed like they would fall out of his sockets. He couldn’t believe the words he had just heard. For a powerful nation such as Yohk’Zai to treated as “something like that”. She had a different skin colour, but he thought she was otherwise a regular woman, but as expected, she might really have been an employer of the dark arts. Teo Keh suddenly found the woman fearful.

“I-, I will immediately pick up a rock. Please wait a little.”

Teo Keh who had now wanted to end negotiations before the woman changed her mind, hurried outside the pavillion after leaving those words.

The sun was said to have been born from the breath of the Goddess Shawa, and in the Month of Onse, it relentlessly scorched the ground.

Teo Keh produced a cloth from his pocket, and after wrapping a rock that was small enough to fit in his palm, he picked it up and returned to the pavilion where the woman was waiting.

“Is this fine?”

He pulled off the cloth and showed her the rock.
Seeing the stone with a reddish-brown lustre, the woman nodded in satisfaction.

“It’s fine.”

“Wait!”

When the woman casually reached out for it, Teo Keh called out to stop her in a panic. And when he did, the woman exaggeratedly snapped her hand away.

“W-, What?”

“What are you doing touching a fire stone barehanded? It isn’t my business if you burn yourself, you know.”

“Fire stone?”

The woman tilted her head in confusion. Teo Keh was bewildered. If she didn’t even know of fire stones, then what did she know of?

“In the Onse Month, stones baked by the sun of Shawa will turn into fire stones. You said that that was a bath, didn’t you? Try filling it up with water, and putting this stone in it. With a bath of about that size, this stone alone should be just right to heat it to bath temperature.”

“Is that true!? Woww, so convenient.”

The woman’s eyes suddenly sparkled.

What did “This’ll cut down the gas bill!” mean? Seeing how extremely happy the woman was, perhaps even employers of black magic have their own worries. Or so he thought, as the existences he had thought of as nothing but fearful and abominable, suddenly felt closer to him.

“Our trade is complete. I thank you, Miss Magician.”

Teo Keh folded his arms and expressed his thanks.

“Ah-, wait, hang on.”

The moment he heard her call out to stop him, Teo Keh’s face stiffened.

As expected, was a fire stone not enough for compensation?

“Could I ask you a little something?”

It seems that the rumours about employers of the dark arts wanting information on occasion, were indeed true.

Just what kind of classified information would she seek? Teo Keh braced himself.

“That person you’re looking for. How long has he been wearing these earrings?”

“Hah?”

He involuntarily let out a foolish sound.

“I had received information that he had worn them ever since his mother passed away ten years ago, but…”

What did she plan on doing after asking about something like that?
That the employers of the dark arts truly were an entirely different existence, was something that sank deeply into his heart.

Having come this far, I’m suspecting that there was only one earring. Plurals and singulars are rarely specified in Japanese, and I kind of didn’t think too much about it. Thinking about it again, there was mn, probably only one earring.

“The heck are you? A peeper?”

“Would it be possible for you to spare me a cup of water?”

This conversation that was obviously mismatched at a glance, was the meeting between the Japanese company employee, Tamano Izumi, and the one who would later be known as the Sacred Kingdom of Yohk’Zai’s strongest and greatest king, Huuron.

..*

Baths are good.

Baths are soothing.

No matter how tired she was when she come back from work, once she got in the bath, half of it was forgotten.

Neither the nitpicking of her boss, nor the pressure of a crowded train could match the powers of baths.

Aahh, baths really are sublime.

Even though her room was messy enough that she couldn’t even find a place to tread, she never failed to clean the bath.

Today as well, the bath was polished to a sparkle, and filled with hot water and a refreshing aromatic bath essence, Izumi was enjoying herself in the tub.

The feeling of the prickling heat that her skin was gradually acclimating to was enjoyable enough that she couldn’t bear it.

In other words, it was worth it that she had come home with her face buried in the scarf in the terribly cold weather.

With her favourite tankoubon in one hand, she carried a slice of mikan to her mouth.

The juice in her mouth was an exquisite balance of tang and sweetness, and it was the moment when she swallowed it down seed and all that it happened.

-garari-

Just as she was wondering what the sound was, a hot wind blew in with a roar.

Caught by the wind, the pages of the book she was holding flipped about.

Aah-, even though I still have no idea what page I was on…!

The fact that she was still thinking about such carefree things might have been a form of escapism.

However, when she turned her head to see what the cause was, Izumi who always thought only of books, the bold and by no means sensitive Izumi, glanced towards the cause――towards the bathroom window in the northern side of the room.

There was a person who was wrapped from head to toe in a navy blue cloth, with only the exception of his eyes.

A MUMMY!? …or so Izumi initially thought, but around those slightly slanted eyes was youthful skin, and more importantly than anything, the colour of the cloth was blue.

While gazing at this intruder dumbfoundedly, the eyes gazed back with a sharp light.

First those eyes stared right at Izumi’s face, then they slowly moved downwards, stopped again by her chest, then once again headed further down… When they reached her feet, the intruder tilted his head, before returning his gaze to her face, meeting her eyes.

At this point, Izumi finally remembered. She remembered that she was in the bath, and that she was fully naked.

“The heck are you? A peeper?”

“Would it be possible for you to spare me a cup of water?”

“Water?”

“Yeah. I haven’t had a drink the whole day. It’d really help if you could spare me a cup.”

The man looked at the hot water that filled the bathtub, and gulped.

Of course, Izumi was sitting in that bathtub, and so whether that gulp was from seeing her naked body, or whether it really was because of the water, was something Izumi couldn’t tell.

But well, even if the man really did just want the water, asking for a drink from water that somebody else has just bathed might make him a pervert after all.

Was she supposed to scream “KYAAA” or “MOLESTER!” in this situation?

The man’s face was covered, but had it not been an oft-used blue cloth, and instead a stocking or a balaclava or perhaps a full-face helmet, then Izumi would probably have screamed without a doubt.

However, the unique atmosphere that the man had held her back.

“Umm, water, right?”

Having said that though, she couldn’t give him water that she’d bathed in.

Izumi picked up the cup that she used for brushing her teeth while in the bath, and filled it with water after turning the tap on.

The cold water flowed into the cup and filled it.

Around the time that the cup was filled to the rim, she turned around.

The man’s gaze was aimed at Izumi’s butt.

Maybe I really should scream.

After clearing her throat with an ‘ahem’, the man raised his face as he suddenly realised what he was doing. When Izumi’s half-open eyes met his gaze with disdain, the man quickly lowered his eyes.
While using her book to discreetly shield her chest, Izumi got up.

“Here you go.”

“Sorry for this.”

As expected, with the exception of his fingertips, the man’s hand was covered in that blue cloth.

No, it wasn’t only his fingertips. His shoulders and hips were wrapped in a large navy cloth as well.
Right, it was like he was somebody travelling in the desert with a camel.

Izumi who was often gazing at the man’s outfit noticed that her cheek was being stroked by a hot and dry wind, and turned her eyes to what was behind the man.

“What the heck?”

Izumi widened her eyes and took in the scenery that spread out behind the man.

It was not a desert. Though it wasn’t a desert, you could tell that the land was dry from a glance, and that this desolate land continued into the distance.

Sparse grass, and a glazing sun. There wasn’t a single tree, nor any buildings. In this great expanse with nothing to block your view, the distant horizon was visible.

“Ummm?”

The man had drunk the water in one gulp with just the cloth around his mouth lowered and a line of water running down his lip. Izumi timidly called out to him.

“…What is it?”

The man gave a forceful wipe of his mouth.

“Where, are you?”

“Zaharya. Is there a problem?”

The man tilted his head in confusion, and held out the cup straightforwardly.

“You saved me. …I’m sorry to ask this, but may I have another cup?”

“Hahh. Sure.”

When she did as she was asked and filled the cup with water, the man once again drained it in a gulp. He seemed to drink it as though it were delicious wine from the heavens, and Izumi felt that he really hadn’t had any water the whole day.

“Um, and so, what are you doing in that Zaharya place?”

“I was stranded here.”

“I see…”

“It’s not funny.”

“Mn, sorry. I just wanted to try saying it.”

The man was looking at Izumi with cold eyes. Izumi obediently apologised.

“Do you have any containers? I’ll fill it with water.”

“Ah, that would help. Could you fill this?”

What the man held out to her was a withered bag that seemed to be made of tanned hide.

When Izumi took it, the sand that had covered it fell into the bathtub.

When she slowly moved it so that no more sand would fall, she rinsed the inside before filling it with water.

After filling the bag that held more water than expected, Izumi turned back to the man.

This time, it was Izumi’s turn to send a cold look.

The man’s gaze was once again turned to her butt.

“Ah, umm… Sorry.”

Quickly turning away so that he wasn’t look at Izumi’s naked body, the man received the bag.

His rather suntanned skin had turned just a little red.

“Don’t worry. It’s already too late for that. By the way, you’re stranded right? Do you have food?”

“Yeah, I have hard biscuits and salted jerky, and dried fruits as well. I’m fine for food.”

It was a menu that seemed like it’d make you incredibly thirsty.

“Hahh, then… can I close the window yet? Sand has been blowing in for a while now, you know?”

“Y-, Yeah… Ah-, please wait!”

The man’s large hand grabbed her hand as she touched the windowframe.

“I’d like to thank you.”

“Nah, it’s fine. It’s was just water after all.”

“Where I come from, there’s a saying that things you receive without paying back for will end up hindering you, you see.”

“Ahh. Like ‘there’s no such thing as a free lunch’? But even if you want to thank me, …you know?”

Izumi gazed at the man closely.
What kind of thanks could you get from a person stranded in a wasteland?

“How about this?”

The man took off the cloth that was covering his face.

“Oh? A handsome one…”

Looking at the man’s face again, his finely chiseled features overflowed with a wild manliness.

“I am honoured to receive your praise.”

The sharp-eared man who picked up on her accidental compliment, flashed her a grin.

His mouth was wrinkled in a cynical looking smile. He might have been older than the impression she got from his lively eyes.

“Please take this.”

After taking off the blue stones that decorated his ears, the man dropped it onto Izumi’s palm.

They rang out with a refreshing sound as the man placed his hand on Izumi’s.

“They’re earrings made of lip’se.”

“Oh-, na-, nah, it’s fine. They seem kinda super expensive. I’m not going to accept such an extravagant gift! All I gave you was water, you know?”

“What are you saying? That water saved my life. If you consider their values, these earrings are still lacking by far.”

“Well, I guess if you think about it that way, you’re right, but…”

“Our trade is complete. Sorry for disturbing your bath.”

The man unilaterally ended the conversation in a way that kept Izumi quiet.

“Then… I’ll accept them. Ah-, wait a minute!”

Izumi called out to stop him as he was about to shut the window.
The man raised an eyebrow, as if to ask ‘What?’.

“Water, is that enough?”

Wouldn’t a stranded person always be in need of more?

“Yeah, it seems that I’ve already left the desert, you see. There’s an oasis city to the east. If I continue walking, I’ll probably get there at some point. I’ve been in your care.”

..*

After the window shut, the scene in the bathroom went back to normal.

An orange wall. A white floor. A yellow bathtub. A shower, a mirror, and a shelf with bathing items, and a bath sponge that hung from that shelf.

It was the scene of her bathroom that she was used to.

Amongst all of this was just the earrings that gave off an uncommon light, and seeing this, Izumi came back to her senses.

What the heck was that? What happened just now.

Hearing the ring of the earrings in her hand gave her this unsettled feeling, as though she had awoken from a dream, yet she hadn’t.
Izumi stared hard at the earrings. Embedded in a well-crafted gold base were deeply coloured stones. The area like a curved needle meant that this was a hook-type earrings, and the dark stains attached to the hook section gave this a strong sense of reality.

Slowly, a strange anxiety crept into her from the tips of her toes.
When Izumi threw the earrings away at the edge of the bathtub, they floated up.

She hurriedly dried herself, put on her clothing, wrapped her wet hair in a towel, and hurried into the genkan.

Throwing on some sandals, she went around to the back of the house.

There was the bathroom window.

The scenery around her was, unmistakably not a wasteland. There was only a plain concrete block wall, and the hedge from the neighbouring house peeking over the wall.

Between the block wall and the wall of her house was a small path covered with gravel.

While observing her surroundings so carefully that she wouldn’t miss an ant, she walked slowly forwards until she was in front of the bathroom, and then forcefully ripped open her window.

From the bathtub filled with hot water, rose steam that filled the room.

In her misty field of vision, she found a shining blue stone, and Izumi leaned against the window. Her legs had lost their strength.

Just what, was going on…?

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 13

Chapter 13 – “I defeated the enemy general.”

“Nielsen, how goes the battle?”

“Milady. Our forces number a little under 200, whilst the opposing Kira Unit have a little over 300. Although there is a difference in numbers, as Mühen’s guerilla unit carries out its duties, we maintain a status quo. And at last, we have lured that damnable Kira himself.”

“Hu, that damned Kira is surely exasperated.”

These past few days, Mühen’s unit have been attacking the Kira Unit. By exhausting Kira with guerilla warfare, it seems that Kira has grown tired of waiting. A move to be expected of a single-celled organism like Kira.

“Controlled by his anger, Kira has charged into the frontlines. They are all heading towards headquarters.”

“All right, I shall kill Kira! Nielsen, you round up the surviving members of Mühen’s unit and after Kira’s death, bring them to hunt down the remaining enemies!”

“As you will.”

Nielsen and I headed promptly to the battlefield. We ran with the strength of the demon race, enhanced with body reinforcement magic. That type of speed was not something common.

-ZAZA-
-ZAZA-

Leaving only footsteps behind on the plain, our two figures flashed by.

“Speaking of which, Nielsen, have you grown used to controlling your mana?”

I asked Nielsen, as we sprinted.

“Milady. Even now I can not properly suppress it, and the mana rages deep within my body.”

“I see. Mastering it at once is impossible. Even I have been struggling, and at last, have been able to reduce my mana to a tenth.”

“As expected of Camilla-sama.”

“Something at this level is still far from comparable to Oneesama.”

“No, no. Being able to suppress your enormous mana to a tenth is already a splendid accomplishment.”

“Pfft. Nielsen, you must try your best as well.”

“As you will. But still, Tilea-sama’s training methods were admirable.”

“I had also not believed that Oneesama was doing nothing but cooking, but to think that there was this kind of training method――”

The day that Nielsen also became Oneesama’s subordinate, Nielsen and I received orders to work in the kitchen.

Why did we receive such an order?

Even though with Oneesama’s power, the world could immediately be brought into her grasp. Why were we made to take such a detour? Could it be that she did not intend on walking the path of the conqueror?

…And then, I remembered.

Earlier, did Oneesama not say that she would guide me!?

Indeed. Oneesama wanted to train Nielsen and I before advancing on the path of the conqueror.

What a waste on two people like us!

But what kind of training is kitchenwork?

I agonised over it. I had considered asking Oneesama about her true intentions, but I did not want to discourage her by letting her know that I could not comprehend even this. And so I pondered on it desperately.
And then, I noticed something. Wasn’t I unable to feel Oneesama’s mana? Although Oneesama had that much mana, I could feel none of it surging from her.

Why?

However, when I carefully searched for mana, I discovered that deep within Oneesama’s body, lay an enormous mana. Oneesama was performing kitchenwork while suppressing that mana.

Mana is the source of power. Without mana, combat is unthinkable. Oneesama was keeping her mana suppressed so that it would not leave her body. Almost none of it did.

Why was she doing such a thing?

The time when Oneesama kicked Nielsen made me clearly understand it.

After Nielson came back from clearing out the scouts and had a few words with Oneesama, he suddenly suffered a kick.

In that moment, her mana rose to an incomparable level.

I felt that the scales had fallen from my eyes. Indeed; simply increasing our mana is not enough. Even with enormous mana, unless you can properly control it, you will be unable to demonstrate any satisfactory power.

Huhu, as expected of Oneesama. We demons thought of nothing but increasing our mana, and saw the control of the mana is secondary. Oneesama kept silent to have us realise this ourselves.

After that, Nielsen and I began suppressing our mana at all times, and endeavoured to reach the point where it was natural thing to do for us.

Working in the kitchen whilst controlling our mana was extremely difficult. It was work that required a high degree of competency. While concentrating on our mana, we often blundered. Just how many times had Nielsen accidentally overturned the cauldron…?

To regulate one’s mana while controlling one’s strength. I had never even dreamed that working in the kitchen would become such training.

Nielsen and I trained desperately each day, but could not manage to do things skilfully like Oneesama. Oneesama regulates her mana as naturally as breathing. And what’s more, she has her mana lowered to the level of a human.

Mana at the level of a human…

Because of that, I had also mistaken Oneesama to be a human at first. Holding down such powerful mana within herself and lowering it to the level of a human, and then performing her duties in the kitchen. It would require a huge amount of skill.

Oneesama is amazing. I must also learn from her example! Oneesama’s humongous mana may be one thing, but what will I do with myself if I cannot even suppress as little mana as mine!?

Even magic beasts so ferocious that they destroy boulders and tear up their prey can control their mana and sooth the babies they have given birth to. If the ignorant magic beasts can do so, then there is no way that we demons cannot.

Running for a a short while, whilst pondering the training over these last few days, I could suddenly hear a roaring sound.

“Are they close?”

“Yes. We will come into contact with the Kira Unit very soon.”

“I see. I am itching to test my arm against――Mu-!?”

At that moment, together with the sudden sound of an explosion, a huge hole opened up in the ground. It was a hole of 3 metres diameter, and deep enough that a normal person could not see its bottom. I could tell the power of the explosion.

“Tsk, I missed!?”

“Kira, huh? A surprise attack? A sly one as always.”

The demonic birdman, Kira…

One of the Six Demon Generals. Feared as Kira the Impaler, in the previous war, he skewered many humans on his great spear, and exposed their bodies to the air. His large wings, and those shining and ferocious eyes of his are his special characteristics.

“Heh heh, Camilla. To think that you would betray the Demon King Army. In other words, I can kill you openly now.”

“Hmph. You think that you can kill me?”

“You never change, ey? Arrogant enough that you could call it overconfidence. I really will have a good time killing you.”

“And you haven’t changed either; still a single-celled organism. However, single-celled though you may be, we were once comrades, and so I will personal perform your last rites. Feel grateful.”

“Kuh-, insisting on having the last word! You lot――! While I’m killing Camilla, make sure you don’t let any of the small fry escape. We’ll skewer every one of her comrades without fail!”

Having received their orders, the hundreds of Kira’s subordinates surrounded my unit.

Hmph, no matter how many smallfry you gather, they still aren’t anything worth mentioning!

“Nielsen, we proceed as planned. I will tidy up that fool.”

“As you will.”

After I gave Nielsen his orders, I turned to face Kira. He was tightly gripping the great spear in his hand. It isn’t a simple great spear. It is a great spear that is famed for hitting its target without missing, and striking through target and all at lightning speed; the divine weapon Gae Bolg. Because of all the blood it sucked in the previous war, it has gotten even sharper.

“Camilla, I’ll bring you down with one shot; you won’t be able to run!”

Kira drew out all the strength he could muster as he held up the great spear. Even if a defective one, he is still one of the Six Demon Generals, so the mana that he put into the spear far exceeded a normal demon’s.

“The throw of an idiot who only knows once trick, is it!?”

“Too much prattle! Secret Technique, Skymark![Super Demonic Sky Gap Slasher!]”

Kira threw the great spear at lightning speed. It happened at a speed that a human could not even see, and at a speed that by far surpassed a mid-class demon’s reaction speed. Even if a high-class could see it, they would probably struggle to dodge it.

However, I would be troubled if you group “Camilla of the Flash” together with any regular demon.

“Hmph.”

I twisted my upper body to avoid the incoming spear.

“Idiot. Did you think you could escape? No matter how one runs, my spear will always change its trajectory to stab you.”

The spear changed its trajectory to pierce me through the heart.

――GAKIN!

However, before it reached my heart, it stopped.

“Wha-!? What’s going on?”

“Fool. Did you forget that I am surrounded by my magic barrier at all times?”

“E-, Even so, to stop my surefire kill…”

“Something like this may have been impossible for me in the past. However, now that I have learned mana control, something of this level is no trouble.”

“M-, Mana control, you say?”

“That’s right. I bring my mana under control, amplify the mana in one section, and concentrate it into one point. I knew that an idiot like you would aim for the heart as usual, after all.”

Indeed; I knew that it would come towards my heart. Even in the previous war, this idiot would single-mindedly aim for the opponent’s heart. If you know where it’s going to hit, no matter how fast it is, dodging it is easy after all, and you can even concentrate your barrier into one point to meet the attack.

After grabbing the spear that had been stopped by my barrier, I threw it away with all my power. The spear drew a parabola in the air, and disappeared deep into the forest.

“Given that you have no use other than spear throwing, this is your loss now.”

“DON’T MAKE FUN OF ME! DIEEEEEEEEEE!”

Kira let out an angry scream before amplifying his mana and shooting magic bullets at me. Countless magic bullets appeared from his hands.

“Oh? You want to compete with me in magic? How amusing!”

I shot magic bullets as well, not losing to him. The bullets of we two Demon Generals collided. Together with an incredible roar, the nearby trees, rocks, and earth were all gouged away, one after another.
There were even soldiers injured by the blast. Dozens, hundreds, of bullets flew each way.

And then…

“Hahh, hahhhh, hahhh… W-, Why are you―― so-, so relaxed…?”

Kira was wheezing due to our exchange of magic bullets. His face was pale, and his whole body ran with sweat. Because he fired magic bullets without pause, there is no doubt that his mana has run dry.

“When you go all out with your mana in the beginning like an idiot, this is what happens. What’s important is mana control. Here comes the finisher, Kira.”

In order to fire my secret technique, I began to chant. And then a magic circle appeared.

“P-, Please wait!”

“I won’t wait. O magic bullets, become countless stars. Star Freya![Super Demonic Star Magic Bullets!]”

“Hi-, HIEEE!”

Kira flapped his wings and rose into the air to escape the bullets. He shouldn’t have had any energy left, but I suppose this was his final struggle to live. He frantically flapped his wings up and down.

“Foolishness. My magic bullets track their mark. You may die now!”

The countless magic bullets followed the rising Kira, and struck into him. One of those magic bullets has enough power to erase a low level demon. And hundreds, thousands, of those were raining upon him.

“UGYAHHHH!”

Together with his death throes, the sky resounded with an explosion, like fireworks.

“Hmph. That was too good of a technique to waste on you.”

Tilea’s Worries – Chapter 12

All I translated tonight. Throbbing headache, and feeling irritable …because of the throbbing headache. Also wow. Syosetu has finally implemented ruby text. Maybe machine translators will stop getting confused now.

Also uh, I think I might translate some of the ‘ha-!(sir)’s as ‘milady’ instead of ‘understood’ where appropriate. I didn’t want to use ma’am, so I guess milady should do fine.

Chapter 12 – “This dog is a hardcore NEET.”

It’s been a week since I hired Pervert(Nielson). Even now, I haven’t seen Pervert(Nielson) work seriously. Or rather, he can’t even bring himself to stay in the shop during opening hours.

Belnandes, was it…?

Probably one of Pervert(Nielson)’s unemployed buddies. Anyway, he frequently comes to the shop to bring Pervert(Nielson) away.

Pervert(Nielson) then spouts stuff like “Tilea-sama. It seems that the scouts of the Demon King Army are lurking nearby. Hmph, please pay it no heed. I shall immediately tidy them up.” before leaving.

Each time, I have no choice but to clean up after him. I bow to dad, and do the work set out for Pervert(Nielson) in his stead. As Pervert(Nielson)’s boss, being unable to properly guide him is something I take responsibility for.

I thought about scolding him harshly.

And obviously! Who on earth would just ignore an employee who randomly ditches work!?

But this is the first time that Pervert(Nielson) has worked in his life. There’s no doubt that his willpower is soft like tofu. If I scold him, there’s basically a 100% chance that he’ll give up. I mean, after all, having never worked in his almost 60 years of life, Pervert(Nielson) is a hardcore NEET. Looking at this in the long term, I have to bring up Pervert(Nielson) properly. I shouldn’t be scolding him, and instead praising him and raising his ability. This is something I resolved myself upon when I hired him.

――Alright. Let’s have a talk with him. First off I’ll look for Pervert(Nielson)’s few good points, and praise him to bring out his will to work!

“Niel, there’s something I need to talk――”

“Mu!? It seems that scouts have appeared again. Well then, I shall head off to clean them up.”

Pervert(Nielson) flew out of the shop again.

Huhuhu, this is the first time――the first time that I’ve met a dummy that’s made a fool of me to this extent…

After that, when Pervert(Nielson) returned, I properly gave him a harsh scolding.

..*

A few days later, while racking my brains about Pervert(Nielson) who hadn’t shown any growth, I could hear a voice calling for me. The source of the voice was the source of my recent worries, Pervert(Nielson).

“Tilea-sama! Tilea-sama!”

“What is it this~ time? Did the Demon King revive or something?”

“No, things are still all right on that front.”

“Then what?”

“Milady. The offensives of the Kira Unit have been intensifying as of late, and before long I will need to take command on the front lines. Please forgive my absence from headquarters for a while.”

Huu~ In other words, you want to take a break, huh? Even though you’ve been ditching work that much, working is still painful? I guess even if I tell him no at this point, he’ll just lose motivation and it’ll have the opposite effect.

――Can’t be helped. For now I’ll just let him do things at his own pace, and ask him how often he can work.

“Then, how often can you come to work?”

“Milady. It depends on the development of the battle, but I believe that I will be able to return to headquarters once a week.”

Yep, there it is. A working week with a 6 day weekend; you’re making light of working, aren’t you!? In what universe is there a company that allows people to rest 6 days a week!?

And what’s more, saying that you’re fighting the Demon King Army…

That’s like saying you’re not going to work because you’re going off the play!

Huu~ Huu~ Calm down. CALM DOWN, TILEA!

I squeezed out all of the maternal instinct that I had. If I can feel like a mother watching over her child, I’ll be able to calm down.

……

…………

……………………

――Okay, I’m calm. Right. It isn’t time to rampage yet. Although it’s only once a week, Pervert(Nielson) still intends on working after all. I can just instil the common sense of a worker into Pervert(Nielson) from here on.

But wow, that event is still going on…?

It seems that Armoured Man-san, I mean, Hidler-san is still going at it. I’ve heard this from Pervert(Nielson), but apparently Armoured Man-san’s name is actually ‘Hidler’. It sounds totally like the name of some Demon King.

But still, the offensives of the Kira Unit?

It’s not the Demon King Resurrection Event anymore.

“What’s Kira?”

“Milady. With Camilla-sama’s cessation from the Demon King Army, the cautious Hidler may be a different matter, but as for the belligerent of the Six Demon Generals, we had predicted that they would begin to move. Amongst them is Kira. To begin with, he did not think well of Camilla-sama, and had been looking for an excuse to quarrel with her.”

…Oi you. Do you really think that anyone would know what you’ve been talking about?

Only I can understand your chuunibyou, you know. It’s really lucky that I was somebody reincarnated, huh?

In other words, what Pervert(Nielson) wants to say is this!

『Hey, hey. Hidler-san. Is Camilla-chan really quitting?』

『It’s true. Her older sister came to bring her home.』

『Ehhhh? Serious? Then won’t the Six Demon Generals just be the Five Demon Generals? It loses its ring.』

『Honestly, for the sake of this event I had to slave away at work without holiday, you know!』

『Yeah, yeah! We can’t just change our members at this point!』

『Calm down now, everybody. We can’t trouble her family.』

『You’re too soft, Hidler-san! Just as we were thinking about how she suddenly barged in, now she’s suddenly quitting? I’m going to go complain a little!』

is probably how the conversation went.

Thinking that Kira was coming to complain a little to Timu about suddenly quitting, I guess Nielsen isn’t just thinking about playing about either. He’s going to convince Kira after all.

“Got it, Niel. I’ll leave this matter to you, alright?”

“Understood-! I shall risk my life to serve.”

“Oneesama. From a long time ago, that guy and I have had our fates crossed. I would like to ask for permission to head to the battlefront as well.”

Oohh! Timu, you were listening too, huh? Timu suddenly joined the conversation I was having with Pervert(Nielson). Well, there’s no reason that the chuunibyou Timu wouldn’t get onboard with Pervert(Nielson)’s chuunibyou.

But I wonder if it’ll be okay for Timu to go. Will the chuunibyou Timu be able to apologise properly? If things go wrong, it might get more complicated…

No, doing nothing but pampering isn’t real love. This matter is something that Timu should apologise for herself. Timu caused them problems while she was playing with them after all. You have to properly apologise to the people that you trouble, after all.

“You’re right. Timu, you should go too. Make sure to properly take responsibility for this,”

“Of course, Oneesama.”

Yupyup. Timu has also gotten stronger before I knew it.

Cthulhu Average – 21

Chapter 21 – Evil God Average

Holding my hand to the dungeon core, for the first time in a while I added a floor.
However, what I was doing this time was different to what I’d been doing up until now. So far, I’d just been adding floors normally, and since this was a cave-type dungeon, the floors were added underground. In contrast, this time what I was doing was adding floors contrary to the nature of this dungeon.
The first time I needed to pay 30,000,000 extra, like some sort of harassment, but with that, I could build floors both below and above ground. …Aahh, even though I’d finally saved up that much. The dragon I wanted is moving away from my reach.
After adding a special floor one time, after that I was able to add on more surface floors just by using the normal floor-adding function. The surface floors weren’t just rooms, and so I needed to choose how to have the exterior as well which was a bother, but since most of the settings were already set, I finished it quickly.
Leonora was standing next to me with a cramped expression, but I paid her no heed and finished processing the final floor.

There weren’t any changes to that room, but with this, I felt that I would be able to give a good performance, and so I turned to look at the scenery reflected on the mirror that I had left beside me.

The Kingdom’s soldiers who had completed their formation, the cultists who were ready to martyr themselves in opposition of the Kingdom; all of the people there were frozen in shock and awe, with their eyes fixed on that one spot.
On the thus far empty clearing that had been created to serve as the base of the temple, suddenly appeared a gargantuan building, as though piercing the heavens.
That mostly black palace was designed with an exquisite balance of holiness and dreadfulness, and the building itself was like a work of art.
Everyone there had surely realised it instinctively; that this was the temple in which the Evil God lived.

That’s right. On the top of the 5th surface floor, I established a temple.
Because it requires too many mana points, to begin with no other dungeon master would build a surface floor in an underground dungeon. Because of that, people don’t know that the act in itself is possible, so it’s probably quite flashy enough.
If they misunderstand this as a power I have because I’m the Evil God, then it’ll be even more effective.

For the cincher, I brought Leonora and Tena up to the top floor with a teleport.
From the balcony of the spire, I could see the dumbfounded and frozen figures of the Forteran Army and Evil God Cultists.

“Leonora, Tena, if you’d please.”

“Yeah, got it.”

“Understood, Anri-sama.”

Leonora and Tena began chanting magic together.
I’ve asked the two of them to help set the stage for my show.

What Leonora chanted was a spell that forcibly changed the battlefield to nighttime, in order to heighten the effectiveness of darkness magic.
What Tena chanted was a foothold creation spell used for aerial battles.
An area of a few kilometres radius with the temple at the centre was engulfed in the shadow of night, and in the midst of it all with Leonora and Tena in tow, I walked off the balcony into the air.
Normally doing this would send me tumbling to the ground, but right now because there was a staircase of black smoke that Tena created, I slowly went down the stairs.

Because my foothold was fluffy and unreliable, even if I knew that I wasn’t going to fall, scary things were still scary.
Inside, my heart was beating faster than it ever had since I was born.
If possible, Leonora, Tena, either was fine, so I’d have preferred to have held someone’s hand, but that wasn’t possible in this situation.

The stairs continued all the way to the ground, but I stopped at a landing situated halfway down, and once again overlooked the surface.
In my vision, the various soldiers and cultists were all looking up at me without exception.
Now then, it’s time for the finishing touches.

I quietly closed my eyes, and began moulding my mana.
Let’s use all of the mana that I’ve preserved by even asking Leonora and Tena to set the stage, and shoot it into the sky as one big, flashy firework.
I’ll have them think that there’s a massive difference in power, and make sure they never dream of attacking me again.
My eyes flashed open, and my chant────

…*

…*

…*

────Wha-, huh? The Forteran Army isn’t even here. Where’d they go?

…*

…*

…*

With the stage missing the people I was supposed to perform to, unsure of what to do, I froze up.

“Um, Anri-sama? It seems that things have already ended.”

“If you’re looking for the Forterans, they ran away right after they saw you, you know?”

What did you say?
Wai-, then what do I do about all this mana I’ve moulded?
I ignored stuff like the maximum limit, so it’s about to explode, you know?

“Come now, how long are you going to stand there? Let’s return already.”

Whatever, gunna fire it.
It was supposed to be a harmless firework, but because I stopped the chant it’s turned turned into just your normal attack magic, but it should be fine as long as I fire it somewhere without towns and stuff.

“Wha-!? What do you intend to do!?”

Sorry, it can’t be stopped now.

“I-, Idiot! STOOOOOOOOOOP―――!!!”

(¯¯¯-¯¯¯)
Chudooon.
(eyes closed, facing up to the sky)

Why did things turn out like this?

No, I mean, it’s my fault for acting without thinking so it’s nothing except reaping what I sow, but even so, who could have predicted that something like this would happen? It might be pointless to say anything after all this time, but the reflection that I’m doing is even deeper than the ocean.
I’m reflecting, so──

“Can’t you forgive me already?”

“No. Stay in seiza.”

──You’re heartless.

..*

After I interrupted the showdown between the soldiers and cultists with my once in a lifetime farce, despite feeling shocked at the sudden 『voice』, I somehow managed to keep a hold of myself and returned to the dungeon, but what awaited me was punishment from the furious Leonora.
Overwhelmed by her threatening attitude, and spent the last few hours in seiza, without even being allowed food or the bathroom. But the fact that for some reason I’m not getting hungry, and that I’m fine without going to the bathroom even once, is a mystery.
Incidentally, the reason that I was being punished like this by Leonora who shouldn’t have even known what seiza was, is because it was Tena’s suggestion. Tena… you definitely held a grudge over that. And that being the case, just imagining what awaits me after this is enough to send a cold sweat down my spine.
Although I’m a Japanese person who’s used to seiza, as you’d expect, after bearing with this for hours I’ve already lost the feeling in my legs, and just trying to move a little sends prickles throughout my body.
If I get poked in this state… -tremble tremble-

..*

Also, regarding Leonora’s anger, becoming an Evil God was… not why she was mad, and it was instead because I fired the gathered mana in a random direction.
At first I had planned on just using a harmless and flashy spell to threaten the soldiers, but I ended up losing focus due to the soldiers that had run away before I knew it, and having lost my timing, the mana that had gone beyond the limit was on the verge of going out of control.
Since I couldn’t hold it back properly, I had no choice but to fire it, but there’d be damage if anything was hit by that no-longer-harmless mana, and so with at least that much reasoning left, I fired it into a direction with no towns.

..*

And well, of course there were no towns. Because it was in the direction of the “Demon Race Territory”.

..*

Having realised what I’d done, Leonora began using magic to check with the Demon Race Territory and how much damage was done, while beginning to lecture me at the same time. She really didn’t need to do such a good job of multitasking. I wish she would just focus on confirming the damage.

“Are you listening, Anri!?”

“I’m listening.”

I was thinking about something else, but at the very least, it did enter my ear.
While Leonora’s lecturing was entering my left ear, and exiting my right, I stealthily chanted “status” under my breath.

…*

Uwahh… Um~mm, uwahh…
It’s no good. I can’t find the words.
Just why have things turned out like this?
I knew it when I heard the 『voice』, but seeing it again is rough in various ways.

..*

<Evil God of Fearful Trembles>
The Evil God who governs the Fear authority.

<Third Administrator>
The one who takes the third seat of the administrators of the world.

<Administration>
The basic skill of an Administrator.
Manages the laws and environment of the world.
Level defines the reaches of one’s jurisdiction.
Lv.5 is the level where one’s jurisdiction encompasses everything except the World System and the authorities held by the other administrators.

..*

If I’m the third seat, then that means there are another 2 people (2 gods?), so if the legends that Leonora told me were correct, then they should be the God of Light and God of Darkness.
By ‘the fundamentals of the World system’, could they be talking about the power of the Creator God that was tasked with maintaining the world?
Thinking about it, these statuses and titles, skills, and the abilities of the dungeon are probably part of this system.
Even after being turned into a god, I’m not exempt from its management after all, so I can’t think of what else this could be.

…*

Name:  Tena
Race:    Apostle Race
Sex:       Female
Age:     14
Job:       Miko [New]

…*

I even smuggled Tena out of the realm of humans with me. Sorry.
As a bonus, she was released from slavery and became my miko.

…*

『…And that ends my report.』

“I see. Got it. If anything happens, contact me.”

『Understood.』

It seems that Leonora knows how the Demon Race Territory is now.
When I looked at her pleadingly, she averted her eyes whilst telling me what happened.

“Fortunately, nobody was harmed.”

Thank goodness. In my mind, I let out a sigh of relief.
I wasn’t seriously listening to her lecture, but that was because I couldn’t concentrate from the worry. I mean, even like this, I actually did worry. If somebody was hurt because of something stupid like that, I wouldn’t be able to apologise enough.

“However, apparently one mountain was half-destroyed.”

Are you serious? Certainly, by the time it was about to explode, there was a terrifying amount of mana packed in there, but to think that it was enough to smash a mountain.
But well, I guess that’s fine, as long as nobody was hurt. In the worst case, I could probably fix it with the skill I was granted after all.

While thinking about this, a shadow fell over me. Wondering what was up, I looked upwards and found that Leonora was standing in front of me with her head hanging. I couldn’t see her eyes because of her silver hair, but I could see that her mouth was clenched and twitching.
The atmosphere feels kinda dangerous.

“…It seems that you haven’t been listening to me, huh?”

“I was listening.”

“Then try repeating it back to me.”

“………………”

…I’m sorry.

“Tena. It looks like Anri wants a foot massage.”

“Understood, Leonora-san! Help out too, Lili.”

“Mn.”

I’m seriously sorry!?
Wha-, wait. That’ll be seriously bad right now.
Don’t wriggle your fingers as you sidle up to me!
Pikyaaaaaaaa――――――!!!

…*

Tena was laughing with a brighter expression than I’d ever seen.

…*

Lili who was playing together with Tena, as well as Leonora who should have been angry, seemed to be having fun as well.

..*

Even though I became something like an Evil God, they didn’t treat me any different.

..*

It’s a scene where I have no dignity at all, but I think that this is really happiness.

..*

Although I was supposed to be able to live an average lifestyle, I ended up as average with Evil Gods as my standard, and in the end I even became a real Evil God, but,

…*

if I can be with these girls, then I’m sure things will be fun.

..*

I’m just a novice Evil God, but in order to continue laughing with these girls, I’ll at least give it my all to become an average one.

“How does this spot feel, Anri-sama?”

“Tingly.”

“Alright, time for me to “help out” too, Anri.”

Really, just forgive me already…

Thank you very much for reading.
Now that Anri-san has become an Evil God, Evil God Average 【First Half – Book of Evil】 has finished.
Also, after this I will be writing 【Book of Evil – Side Stories】 where the events up until now will be told from other points of views.
The reason is because when writing in 1st person, there are just things that Anri-san can’t see, and so it wasn’t depicted enough.
Where those guys went, what those guys were thinking at the time, things that weren’t clear in the main story will come to light, maybe.

And after that, we’ll be jumping into the second half, the 【Book of God】.

“entering my left ear, and exiting my right”
Actually the other way around, but sounds weird in English.

Cthulhu Average – 20

Hi, sorry for the uh, close to one week delay. Last Sunday just as I was about to finish chapter 20, I got into a big argument with father again, and couldn’t find a chance to sit down at my comp for a few hours at a time. I could have done translations in parts, but my quality goes down a lot when I do so.
But mn, I basically resolved the argument by getting an interview/test thingy for teaching English in Japan and threatening to move there, lol. Of course, I don’t know a thing about english grammar due to Australian English curriculums so I’ll probably fail for sure, but as long as I show that I’m willing to change countries, it should pacify him for a while!

Oh yeah, Kitaseno-sensei has a twitter now, so you can follow them here: https://twitter.com/yunaki_kitaseno
It doesn’t matter that you can’t read moonrunes. I’m sure that just having a large number of followers is encouraging, so yeah! Go make an account and follow them.
[Wakes up to sudden influx of 200 foreigners.]
Ah, but if you do follow them, neeeever link to this blog please. I’m translating everything without permission, since I figure things will get annoying once they get published, so yeah. But well, at least I’m not making money off my piracy.

Kitaseno-sensei has written three parodies of fairytales featuring the cast of Evil God Average. I will be translating them. Just, not yet, since we haven’t even gotten through half of the main series yet. They’ve also begun writing the side stories for Arc 2, so yeah.

Um, mn. If things stay calm, hopefully I’ll get back to normal speed. I’ve been really itching to translate Tilea and Otoburi.

Chapter 20 – The Battle of the Evil God Temple

“Anri, are you in!?”

I turned in shock towards Leonora who had suddenly burst in while I was having tea with Tena and Lili.
Because we accidentally met eyes, she turned blue from the effect of the mystic eyes, and began to dogeza on the spot.
When I averted my eyes in a fluster, I asked Tena to brew some for Leonora too, after she had finished helping her up.

“S-, Suddenly going through a horrible time like that.”

“I-, I said I was sorry.”

“No, well, it’s my fault for looking at your eyes though.”

Leonora sighed, after having sat down to some tea and catching her breath.
We introduced her to Lili as well, who hadn’t been here the last time she stayed.
Lili’s shyness of strangers came into play and she hid behind Tena, but once she realised that Leonora was harmless, she was very quickly able to speak to her normally. …Even though I’ve been living with her for days now. This is unfair.
Also, it turns out that the reason Lili kept running away from me was because of the miasma filling the dungeon. It took me a while to notice since it had no effect on Tena and I, but even if I call this place the residential area, it’s just something I decided arbitrarily and it’s still inside the dungeon so of course there’s miasma here. Apparently the combo attack from my Evil God Aura and the fear inducing miasma makes me seem ridiculously terrifying. Of course, since the miasma is a characteristic of the dungeon, it’s not something I can stop even if I wanted to. That’s why I settled the problem by tampering with the circulation so that it’d suck out the miasma from the residential area and blow it into other areas. The miasma in the other floors might have gotten worse by the same amount, but well, I guess that can’t be helped.
Having understood the problem and expelling the miasma from the residential area, Lili finally stopped running away from me. Even so, whenever our eyes met, she’d run away as you’d expect though.

“And so, what’s up, all of a sudden? From how you were acting earlier, it seems like you have something to say, but?”

“Yeah, that’s right. While I was travelling I heard a disturbing rumour, you see, so I came back here in a fluster.”

“A disturbing rumour?”

Just hearing that was disturbing enough, and now I’m scared to hear the rest.
Speaking of which, didn’t I hear the Evil God rumour from Leonora as well?

“There’s a rumour spreading that there are Evil God Cultists gathering around Riemel town, you see.”

“Ahh, so it’s about that.”

I unconsciously relaxed.
Sorry to Leonora who journeyed all the way back here to tell me, but if that’s what this is all about, then I already know.
The Hero(lol) Party let me down and didn’t come, and though the construction of the temple that was arbitrarily set outside the dungeon entrance is still going slowly, it’s making progress.
It’s certainly troublesome, but it’s nothing life-threatening, so I’ll just relax and take my time to come up with a countermeasure.
But still, going by the way she said things, could it be that Leonora didn’t see the stuff around the dungeon herself? Since I told her about the back entrance as well, if she came in from there, it makes sense that she’d arrive here without passing through the blockade.

“Mu, so it was true after all? In that case, the rumour that I heard is seeming closer and closer to fact.”

“That wasn’t the disturbing rumour?”

“No, the fact that Evil God Cultists are gathering is nothing more than the precondition. You see, the disturbing rumour I heard is about the Order of the Sacred Light being gathered to subjugate the gathering cultists.”

Order of the Sacred Light?

“T-, That can’t be…-!?”

“…?”

It seems that Tena knows something since she turned pale, but as expected, perhaps Lili was too young to know, because seeing Tena she just tilted her head in wonder.

“You seem quite relaxed, huh. Even though you should know quite well what this means.”

“Uh, no, what’s the Order of the Sacred Light?”

Hearing my question, Leonora and Tena fell forward powerlessly.

“Y-, You… You don’t know of the Order of the Sacred Light? I’ve been thinking this for a while, but are you really a human?”

“Anri-sama… The Order of the Sacred Light is just as it sounds; a knight order formed by the call of the Church of Sacred Light. Only the Pope has the right to call them, and it comprises knights from various countries.”

In other words, something like the Crusaders of this world?
Also, Leonora sure is rude. It’s inevitable that I don’t know about this world.

“It seems that you don’t understand, so I’ll say this as well, but the state religion of all the human nations should be the Faith of Sacred Light. Becoming the target of the Order of the Sacred Light is in other words becoming the enemy of the entire human race.”

NANI?
The degree of danger just shot to another level.
From what I hear, certainly the Evil God Cultists are the enemy of the Church, but didn’t things get blown up way too quickly?
Although it’s true that cultists are gathering, is all of the human race joining forces just for a group that’s only a few hundred at best?
When I asked this, Leonora nodded as though it were natural.

“Certainly, it does feel unnatural that they would mobilise on this huge a scale just for the Evil God Cultists. It makes sense that we should view them as having an objective beyond this, I suppose.”

“An objective beyond this?”

“The investigation of the rumoured Evil God, and then the subjugation, or sealing of it, I suppose.”

I see. If it wasn’t just the cultists, but the Evil God as well, then I can assent to this exaggerated mobilisation.
To get attacked by all of humanity like this, this Evil God person sure has it rough too, huhh~

“I think you already understand, but it’s you, you know?”

I know it’s me, dammmit.
At least allow me some escapism.

“I’m not the Evil God.”

“That isn’t the problem right now. Whether or not it’s true, if the human race recognises you as such, then it’s the same thing.”

Certainly, whether or not I’m the Evil God, as long as the top brass of each country and the Church recognise me as the Evil God, it won’t change the fact that I’ll be their target for elimination.
But why I’m being recognised as the Evil God is a mystery.

“The leaders of the countries and Church should know that the Evil God is imaginary.”

“Mu, now that you mention it, that’s true…”

According to what I heard from Leonora earlier, the Evil God was a fictitious enemy created to give authority to the Church of Sacred Light.
Normal people or those in lower positions are one thing, but the higher-ups know that the Evil God doesn’t exist, so they’d probably just laugh at rumours of the Evil God appearing.

“Or perhaps it’s because they know that it is fictitious. It is not strange to think that the subjugation will be easy since its just a fake and self-styled Evil God. And what’s more, fake though it may be, as long as ordinary people and believers think that it’s the real thing, they can heighten their authority by subjugating it.”

Even though I don’t recall ever calling myself that.
But I also think that Leonora’s train of thought is correct.
It’s nuisancing others, but as long as the people believe that it’s true, regardless of whether it is or not, they probably won’t be able to leave it alone.

“And so, when will the Order of the Sacred Light be coming?”

“I don’t know that much, but if you consider them as being gathered and prepared from various nations, at the very least a few months, and perhaps it might even take a year, depending.”

As you’d expect, once it gets to this massive a scale, they can’t mobilise that easily, huh?
It was quite a headache of a topic, but the fact that I still have room to think is great luck.
I really can’t relax with the situation as it is, but since I have time, I’ll carefully figure out which choice is best.

..*

..*

..*

…There was a period when I thought like that too.

“Leonora.”

“T-, This isn’t my fault, you know!?”

Using the crow from last time, the surroundings of the dungeon were projected onto the mirror.
And on that mirror were the marching forms of soldiers on the highway that led towards the dungeon.
Meeting the cultist barrier, the soldiers stopped to set up a camp, but they kept arriving one after another, and the difference in power was ridiculous.

“It hasn’t even been half a month… This isn’t what you said.”

“L-, Like I said, this isn’t my fault. To begin with, isn’t this strange!? Why were they able to mobilise soldiers so quickly!?”

Leonora exclaimed with vigour and anger, but it felt like she was just trying to direct the blame away from herself.
Well, I had her stay in the dungeon out of worry, so I have no intention of blaming her though.
Like she said, it certainly is too early, no matter how you look at it.

“No, wait. Can you make the image of the soldiers bigger?”

Leonora asked me this, as though having noticed something.
I gave a nod, before moving the crow closer to the formations.
Leonora stared hard at the soldiers reflected on the mirror, but finally, she gave a nod, having seemingly assented to something.

“I see. I understand the trick now. The ones marching right now are all soldiers from the Kingdom of Fortera.”

The ‘Kingdom of Fortera’ is, if I remember correctly, the country that this place belongs to.
All of them are soldiers of the Kingdom? Wasn’t the Order of Sacred Light a coalition force?
Or could it be that these guys are something other than the Order of Sacred Light?

“They’re probably the vanguard. The allied forces will take time to assemble, so they probably intend to have the soldiers that can immediately mobilise do the scouting and planning first. Given Fortera’s location, they’d get here quickly after all.”

I see. I don’t know if it’s something that Fortera wished for itself, or if it was pushed into it, but for the role of vanguard, it’s natural that it’s Fortera.
According to Leonora, the location of the Kingdom is adjacent to the Demon Race Territory, so in a place like that, it wouldn’t be strange to have a standing army to a certain extent.

“In that case, they won’t attack us immediately, right?”

“If they’re devoted enough to play their role, that is.”

Leonora spoke hesitantly.
As though asking for the true meaning behind her words, I gazed at the beautiful face of the girl with the flowing silver hair. …She averted her eyes.

“From Fortera’s point of view, this is something they should like to tidy up before the main force of the Order gets here. As long as this is the Kingdom’s territory, then by all rights, this is a problem that should be dealt with by the Kingdom itself. Although the Evil God may be the enemy of all of the human race, if a problem within their country is dealt with by the Church or the Order, they will come to owe them a favour.”

I see. If they owe them a favour, then in later negotiations they’ll be at a disadvantage, so it’s natural that they;d want to avoid that.

“What’s more, looking at the scene from earlier, its clear to anyone that they appear to have enough power to deal with it even without waiting for the main force. Would it not be difficult for them to sit still for months without doing anything?”

“Certainly.”

I don’t know exactly how many soldiers Fortera has, but they should have thousands even by a conservative estimate, and if I’m unlucky, they might even have over ten thousand.
And on the other hand, the cultists have stopped with the construction and taken up positions, but they only have a few hundred… There’s nothing to even discuss.
On top of that, if this is the standing army of the Kingdom’s military, then they’re all professional soldiers, but the fighters among the cultists number only a few dozen at best, while the rest are normal people.
No matter how hard the merry Sect Founder tries, it’s impossible for him to overturn this difference in war potential; he’s truly a drop in the bucket.

There’s no way to shake the military superiority of the Kingdom after all, and even I think it would be completely meaningless to wait for the Order.
On the contrary, if they waited in this situation, wouldn’t they be liable to be slandered as cowards?

“There’s a good chance that they will attack once their camp is complete. What will you do?”

“…”

‘What will I do’? That’s what I want to know.
I didn’t think they’d come so quickly, so I haven’t thought of anything.
I’m a normal person who likes to put off the unpleasant. (When it comes to food alone, I’ll save the best for last though.)
I was told that there would be a few months until this happened, so I thought it would be fine if I thought about this stuff next month.

I guess there are about 3 rough choices that I can make.

(1) Fight: For ye fools who hath roused me from my repose, I award ye with death! (fight to the bitter end)
(2) Surrender: P-, Please just spare me my life! (naked dogeza)
(3) Escape: Cya, Totssan! (making a break for it)

For now, let’s think in a direction where I won’t be doing (2).
I have no intention of doing a naked dogeza after all, and even if I did, what lies after would probably just be a tragic fate.
(3) is looking ridiculously attractive, but the problem is where I should run to.
It seems that I’ve made an enemy of the entire human race, so I guess the only place I could escape to is the Demon Race Territory.
I wonder if I can’t use Leonora’s connections to give me asylum.
I looked towards my only ray of hope, Leonora, but it seems that she interpreted my glance as asking for her opinion, because she continued speaking.

“It does certainly seem that with the difference in numbers, you’ll lose in a head-on confrontation, huh. Were it me, I think that using the geography of the dungeon to fight a siege battle would be effective, though.”

Ah. Seems like it’s no good. She’s completely in the mood to fight.
When she asked “What will you do?”, I guess she meant “How are you going to fight?”.
Speaking of which, although she was better than the Hero(lol) Party, Leonora was actually quite a musclehead too.
I’m thankful just that she’s staying by my side in a situation like this, but if I asked her to give me refuge in the Demon Race Territory, it feels like she’d abandon me in scorn.
If I can’t hide in the Demon Race Territory, then (3) is impossible as well… Is there only (1)?
But feeling pain, and being killed, and while I’m at it, killing someone as long as I’m in no danger, are things I’d like to avoid though.

No, thinking about it again, defeating the main force of the Kingdom or the Order isn’t my goal, so I guess there isn’t a reason to fight them head-on?
Now that it’s come to this, the best result for me would be to have them think of me as powerful and withdraw their troops, as well as holding back on making a move against me in the future.
Even if I use brute force to drive away the Kingdom’s forces today, if I continue to get attacked in the future, there won’t be any point.
I’ll put on a flashy performance and make our side look stronger than it is, and make them think that it’s impossible to fight me… This is the best way.

…It’s nothing but a bluff though.

If the idea that I’m impossible to fight against begins to spread, then peace negotiations should be possible.
Negotiations are impossible for me, so I plan on pushing this onto somebody else though.

Fortunately, I have an idea of something flashy enough. When I told Leonora about what I thinking, she immediately went to prepare.
Honestly speaking, I didn’t think Leonora would be very happy about it, but she was surprisingly willing to help. Although she was speaking like that before, even she should understand that frontal attacks are no good. If it’s just the Kingdom’s army in front of us then it might be another matter, but if the Order of the Sacred Light comes along later, we’ll be crushed by their numbers. The only chance at overturning this situation is right now.

Now then, let’s begin my one in a lifetime gamble.

“…There was a period when I thought like that too.” is a Baki reference lol
The whole scene is something like,
” ‘Boxing is an incomplete martial art because it lacks kicks…’ huh? There was a period when I thought like that too.”

Note: Lupin (of Lupin Third) often refers to Zenigata as Tottsan, a form of address that is usually translated as “Old Man” or “Pops”

I’m an incredibly shallow person, it seems.

Speaking seriously though, to me, those faces are about half-way to the spud-head children of Skyrim, so it really has destroyed my imagery of this story forever. I don’t think I can read this story anymore.

Hm, the dangers of LN adaptations…

Ah, and 21 (EGA) will be done soon.
