Reika-sama – 095

Everybody, please check the FAQ first before asking me questions.
If it’s not on there, please feel free and ask. I only get annoyed at questions when the same one has been asked 10+ times, and by then I’ll have updated the FAQ. Thank you for your consideration, guys!

School began again, and the results for the term-end exams were back. Students who did particularly well had their results posted up, and in the midst of all the scholarship students (Wakaba-chan included) were those two, as well as Fellow Stalking Horse again. They really were amazing~
Wakaba-chan seemed really happy about it. Good for her.
Thanks to all of these guys, the rest of us Zui’ran kids could save face. Thank you, thank you.

Not long after, it was time to elect the new Student Council President and Vice-President. It was a little lonely when I realised it was finally time for Tomoe-senpai to step down.

Despite it being officially an election, there weren’t really many candidates and the majority were previous members of the Student Council. Because of that there wasn’t much excitement.
This year’s election wasn’t any different. Our new StuCo President was pretty much who we all expected.
The new StuCo President didn’t have Tomoe-senpai’s charisma but he was a good enough leader amongst the second years. As for the Vice President, it was a diligent-looking senpai in glasses. Usually you’d expect the Vice President to be a scheming four-eyes, but this one seemed like the earnest sort.
Finally, Fellow Stalking Horse did as Tomoe-senpai suggested last term, and entered the StuCo as a 1st Year.

“Okay everybody! We are now choosing the participants for the Athletics Carnival!”

It was the next big event after the StuCo elections. I felt a bit sympathetic for how busy the new StuCo members would be, but they had veterans to help them so I hoped that would be enough.
This athletics carnival was going to be the first experience of the sort since I had become a high schooler. I was a little nervous too. I had to be careful not to make an idiot out of myself. Thankfully nobody in my class seemed to be too hung up over victory, so at least I wouldn’t be hounded for a mistake.

“Next is the baton relay,” I announced.

Satomi-kun was the first to volunteer for it, with others following behind him. We all had to participate in at least one event, so there was a lot of demand for the easy ones. I was going for the ball-toss as always.

“Next is the cavalry battle.”

Suddenly all the males looked grim. Thankfully, however, the legendary Emperor Kaburagi had already announced his retirement from the cavalry battles. It probably wouldn’t be the bloodbath it was in middle school.

“Well, if the Emperor isn’t participating…”

Eventually some of the more athletic boys started discussing the idea with some enthusiasm. Among the topics discussed were who were going to be the riders, and who the strong enemies from other classes would be.

“Mizusaki is definitely gunna participate.”

“He’s strong. Remember last year? He squared off against Emperor near the end.”

“Satomi! You join too!”

“Hmmm. I’ll think about it.”

The boys seemed really excited now. This school really was filled with cavalry battle maniacs.
Anyway, eventually we managed to get our ‘elite cavalry squad’ picked out, so it was onto the next event again.

“Next up is a dance available to all grades. This year, participating students are to be performing the quadrille,” I read.

For some reason a number of them looked up at me and then suddenly averted their eyes. Eh? What?
Anyhow, the dance event was included for the less athletically inclined so it wasn’t surprising that I immediately got volunteers. But the quadrille was supposed to get faster near the end. Were these guys going to be okay?

One of the boys falteringly raised a hand and asked,

“Umm… Kisshouin-san, you won’t be participating in the dance?”

“No. I plan on competing in the ball toss.”

“…I see.”

He looked a bit disappointed. Eh, why did he look so let down. Huh? Some of the other boys looked the same way. How come?
…Don’t tell me they wanted to dance with me?
Well, with my upbringing I wasn’t totally unfamiliar with dancing after all.
I wouldn’t be totally surprised if somebody asked me to dance.

…Maybe it was finally my time to be popular.

I signed up for the three-legged race as well. That’s why I was here to train with my partner, Ikoma-san.

“I’ll give it my everything to avoid letting you down, Reika-sama!”

“Please take care of me.”

Thus we began running around the yard, calling out a rhythm. It was more important to avoid falling than to go fast in this event, so the key was a lot of practice and synchronisation.
Other people were training too, in particular the people doing the baton race, which was the main event, really.
Tsuruhana-san was confident in her abilities, so she was amongst the ones running right now. She was as fast as you’d expect. Some other Outers weren’t bad either, so they were competing against each other. Gee, I wish I could run that fast.
Some shrill squealing broke me out of my reverie. I looked over to find Kaburagi and Enjou running. So fast!
In lieu of the cavalry battle, Kaburagi was going to join the relay and the sprints this year. The guy was staggeringly fast. Just before the goals though, Enjou pulled out ahead.

“Shuusuke! One more!”

“C’mon! Again!”

Enjou went along without a break. It was hard work being a friend to somebody stupidly passionate about athletics carnivals.
I got off my break, and then the two of us began practising again.

My legs were exhausted from all the practice.
I was walking down the hallway, complaining to my friends about it, when suddenly Katsuragi “Bird-Brain” Birdboy came sauntering down the other way.

“Ah! The Violent Woman!”

“Goodness, why if it isn’t Bird-Brain-kun. What might a middle schooler be doing in the high school section?”

“None of your fucking business!”

“Oh, I see.”

“How dare you talk to Reika-sama that way!”

Birdboy was being outrageous as always.

“Reika-sama, what do you mean by ‘bird-brain’?”

“It is his nickname, of course. I bestowed it.”

“My! It fits him perfectly!”

‘Hohoho!’ laughed my followers.

Birdboy turned bright red.

“Shut up! You’re just a-! You’re just a girl with oversized screws attached to your head!”

Aah… I was feeling faint…

“Reika-sama, get a hold of yourself!”

Screws… Reika, the Rococo Screw-Head…

“Just how rude can you be! Reika-sama’s hair isn’t that curly!”

“Yeah! Damn you, Birdbrain!”

“…Calm yourselves, everyone.”

I was probably just shocked because nobody had insulted my hair to my face before.

“The boy is simple. Pay no heed to his words. I certainly do not.”

“As expected of Reika-sama. You’re so big-hearted.”

I left that idiot behind and continued on my way. The idiot continued to scream from behind me though.

…I swore that one day I would definitely have my revenge.

TL Note.

      1. Stop. Why do I get the feeling that you’re raising some flags. 😂Aaah. Sorry It’s prolly just me overreacting but it feels like you just did a curse or something. 😞 Please spare me the spiritual scary stuff or the crazy flags. I can handle bloody and gory stuff but just no to vodoos, curses and flags) 😋

            1. Danger approaches. The dolls will soon walk. Before long you’ll wake up to find them savaging you in the night. The only way to stop them is by taking a camera up into the attic before they fully awaken.

If you can use your camera on them, you can seal away their nascent souls in the photographs while they’re still weak.

              1. Okay the first line sounded so scary it almost fooled me into doing just that. Really, your amazing persuasion skills and writing ability just shows how wonderful you are as a translator. But thanks to the super adorable fan art of Reika-sama, I realized that it was your scheme all along. I will never go to the attic. Who knows what evil lurks in there!! And it’s not like cameras are Holy items nor does it have the blessings of a priest, that it will just magically use up the MP and use its holy attribute.

              2. If such things were real, then I’d probably want to make a scientific career out of them. What is a soul exactly? And why would they animate dolls? After all dolls only are passing resemblances to humans. If anything can have a soul, then what does that say about the nature of our own souls?

                  1. As I say, I like mythology. I like horror.
Nothing would thrill me more than to stare into the abyss and for it to wink back. Give me a frontier and I will want to punch it right in its smug face.

        1. And yet Science at it’s core is only an analysis of a series of results and tracing back to a cause is impossible due to the true foundation of everything being unobservable due to a lack of an apparatus with equal or greater potential being absent or in it’s similarity equally unobservable due to a lack of a similar aparatus. The distinction is that science is a bigger picture in a smaller picture’s systemized format that relies on observable details measured by constants and laws which introduce a digestible logic to the intended result from the probable cause. Magic is a series of results within a far bigger yet also smaller picture with gaps in distinction due to it’s nature being unmeasurable by conventional laws and constants.

BTW I just woke up from a nightmare in 4am and am feeling kinda sleepy so don’t ask any questions cause I probably won’t know how to answer you after I wake up a second time.

          1. Well, I was drinking by the time you launched into all that technobabble.

I’d say more that science is more like a recurring enterprise of empirical observation followed by rational model-making. Followed by trouble-shooting for more mistakes.

The notion of an absolute “cause” or a singular eternal and perfect truth isn’t so much the point as it is to create a model/theory which creates usable predictions. You are making a tool, not practicing a religion.

Magic is more an attitude or a state of emotion. It says simply, “This is too awesome for me to comprehend.” In its essence, it is a surrender to superstition. You cannot declare a thing to be supernatural or impossible without first telling the rest of us that your expectations were . . . how shall we say . . . narrow-minded.

  1. Hahaha. Birdbrain shouted something so true. Reika acts like a real ojousama in this chapter. Thank you for the translation!

  2. When did she give him the name bird brain? Though I assume it was just in her head before.

This is the first time someone has confronted her so forcefully so it’s kind of fun.

      1. He’s one of Enjou’s fans and is jealous of her.
She intimated that he was gay for Enjou and told him that she wouldn’t get in the way of their “love.” It’s likely that Enjou hinted at or showed he was interested in Reika and his nearest supporters picked up on it.

Katsuragi (Bird Brain, not Kaburagi) calls her Violent Woman and probably thinks Enjou doesn’t know her real self. Enjou does know, since he sarcastically told Reika that she was “graceful” when confronting her about Katsuragi’s complaints and also remembers being suckerpunched in the stomach after offering to let her punch him in the face after the whole Tsuruhana incident.

  3. Hey is there actually going to be a coupling in this series for reika or more like slice of life fluffy anyone know for those who’ve read ahead

    1. You’re asking for too much spoilers friend… there are 200+ chapters I’m sure there’s some vanilla stuff that happens. Don’t expect anyone who has read that far ahead to be willing to spoil you. Or you kniw learn Japanese? (: Then you can heed the call of others asking for spoilers?

      1. I just like guessing the trajectories of these things.
Spoilers don’t bother me as much as they do for others.

  4. — Thanks for the chapter~ ^^.

    Honestly, I want them to see Reika-sama’s greatness~! Whew~!
Hopefully that Birdbrain really become birdbrain, well, I guess he’s already a birdbrain as he is going against Reika-sama, so infuriating~!

    —– Thanks again for the chapter~ ^^

  5. I’m actually getting dizzy with excitement at yet ANOTHER update. Translator (Este? Idek what to call you there’s so much names) you’re the beast. That moment where the guys were disappointed Reika wasn’t doing the folk dance actually made me emotional and shed a tear internally. Finally…my girl is popular with boys (she probs always been but now she sorta knows?). Ha oh birdbrain….if there’s one good reason I could give anyone to ship Enjou and Reika it’s that birdbrain would be in despair. Get your revenge Reika-!

  6. Double release!! Thank you thank you Estelion-sama~~~

Awww… That’s cute. So Reika actually have some admirer? I always think the boys are scared to her, not because she’s scary but because she’s too perfect (at least in their eyes).
Please please let the birdbrain have some evolution this time, maybe become a catbrain or something like that. But according to shoujo manga rule, he’s the most possible person that will fall in love in Reika publically.

  7. You sure get my thanks again mate! Can’t believe the double chapter! Anyways, double thanks for the double chapter!

  8. Eehhh~, why do I have a feeling Enjou was showing off for someone? The last part with the Birdbrain was hillarious tho.

Thank you for the fast releases, truly made my week.

  9. “Hohoho!”

I would love fan art of Reika looking smug and laughing it up behind a hand. You all know the kind. The really campy noblewoman’s laughter.

  11. Thank you for the releases, it really made my day :) (Very surprised about the space-time thing, its the 21rst were I live).

  12. Bird Brain shouldn’t have insulted the hair. Now “Hohoho” will be the last thing he’ll hear…
But screws huh. Why have I never thought of that pffff. It’s fine Reika, I’m sure your hair looks cute pfff
    Thanks for the the chapter!

  13. Awww poor Reika! Pffft the drill girl doing the quadrille XD.
I tried to look into that ‘extra reading’ but I saw a big number and a lot of words; I backed out. I’ve already lost my brain to school XD

  14. Many thanks Fluffy-sama!
Since you’re updating so often, could it be you’re on break? Or have you already finished your masters degeee? Should we congratulate you? (How long has it been?)

Moving on… who was this bird brain person again? How dare he talk to Reika-sama like that? Hmmmmm?

  15. Right now I really need of character list. With that large friend and connection Reika has, it’s hard to remember which is which.

  16. Thnx for the chapter :3
and you sure are hard working, take care of your self.
    have a nice day.

btw i would have told the inusuals preferences(incredible reverence) of the boy towards another boy(enjou) in front of all the other girls (in a way that would be misinterpreted) and made gossip spread so far, that would afect his social live so hard lol.

  17. What I love about Reika is that she can be brutal to this little shit without being an asshole, she couldve implied he was on her gaydar, saying he was in team enjou, but she didn’t.

I can’t wait for this lil shit to get his just desserts.

  18. Starting to seem like instead of being the villain to wakabachan she is becoming the villain to katsuragi. XD.

  19. I mean if she really hated the hairstyle whenever she went for overnight trips and stuff she could’ve… not maintained it?? And then formed a completely new image of the soft goddess with long flowing hair that only people who went on summer camp with her saw??

Her pride over little things… she could’ve just admitted at least once that her beloved Okaa-sama wanted it and slapped a mother-con label on as well to complete the set

  20. “Hohoho!”

I left that idiot behind and continued on my way. The idiot continued to scream from behind me though.

…I swore that one day I would definitely have my revenge.

^^ Reika, dear. Your revenge is best served cold. It’s quite simple. Marry him. Enjou, that is. But years and years and years AND YEARS down the line. Let him woo you properly. He should. Probably. Don’t forget to tattle about rude bird-boy being mouthy on a regular schedule to Enjou. (Enjou, rein in your guard dog.) While sniffling pitifully. Teary eyes is a plus…if you can. I mean, you can just punch him but is he worth it? Don’t dirty your OWN hands when you’ve got some shady- umm, smart gentleman (men? Oniisama, is that you?) at your beck-and-call *cough* er, erm… to support you, a lady, a true oujou-sama in distress.

‘Sides, what if you end up with a +1 unnecessary bird-brain to your (nonexistent -as of yet) harem? No punches, unless you’re planning on keeping them. Like how your beloved onii-sama /keeps/ Imari-san (in line)(most of the time).

Ah, I just want more of Reika’s adventures. Dunno what’s worse. An incomplete story or a potentially dissatisfying ending. Who am I kidding? Reika will never be disappointing. (To the readers, or to me at the very least lol)
