Tomorrow is going to be the start of a rough two weeks of work, but hopefully I’ll still get some translation progress going.

I’ve decided to put in more photos of the places she’s talking about. I figure that if I leave the captions blank, they won’t be too intrusive.

Then I realised that I like London better than Paris, so I went back to Chapter 223 and added photos there too.

Our second destination was Paris, France.

Goodbye, London! I’ll come again!

And bonjour, Paris! Paris!

Paris was the Rococo Queen’s second home. Wah, it was stylish everywhere I looked!

Even though the people walking on the street wore normal clothes, somehow they looked stylish too.

This was some French magic at work.

But even though Paris was supposed to be my second home, for some reason I felt a little out of place each time I came here.

London was populated and tight, and its pace of life somehow reminded me of Tokyo. When I was in London I felt comfortable.

In Paris though, how could I put this… The way the Parisians, or perhaps the French, seemed to think that their fashion, food, and arts were the best in the world rather reminded me of Kyoto.

Ah, naturally I loved Kyoto as well, though.

Anyhow, just like our day in London, Paris began with a structured tour.

Amongst the places we visited were the Eiffel Tower,

the Arc de Triomphe,

the Notre-Dame,

the Sacré-Cœur Basilica.

Just a photo of the Eiffel Tower was a bit like saying “I was in Paris!” wasn’t it? That was France’s fame for you.

Tokyo Tower couldn’t even compare in stylishness.

Oh, and there was the Palais Garnier opera house!

The Palais Garnier (pronounced [palɛ ɡaʁnje]) is a 1,979-seat opera house, which was built from 1861 to 1875 for the Paris Opera. It was the setting for Gaston Leroux’s 1910 novel The Phantom of the Opera and its subsequent adaptations.
Phantom, this is where you are!

Lahlalah~

Everybody who’d seen the Phantom of the Opera in London were as excited as I was.

And little wonder~

The setting of the musical we’d seen only a little while ago was right in front of our eyes.

It was like the excitement from watching the production was coming back to us.

The inside of the building was so gorgeous that I was enchanted.

Ah, so this chandelier would fall then~

The whole place was just so resplendent that I think it would have been worth visiting even without the musical. But after the musical, the place just had so much more appeal.

Since we’d seen a musical in London, it would have been great to see some theatre in Paris. It was just a shame that I couldn’t fit it into our schedule.

The Place de la Concorde was where the Rococo Queen had been beheaded.

Eeek~

I unconsciously placed my hands around my neck. Guillotines were scaryyy.

It must have been pretty crazy seeing people beheaded in public…

A person’s head flying off became some kind of sideshow.

What a fearsome people these French were.

I definitely wouldn’t be able to watch something like that.

Uoohh~ Just thinking about it was making me shiver.

Ah-, Satomi-kun was coming my way. You’re here to say something scary again, aren’t you!

“Did you know, Kisshouin-san? Apparently the guillotine was still used for executions until very recently~”

Saaaatooooomiiiiii!

What was I going to do?

What if some headless person visited me at night!?

Thanks to Satomi-kun I was going to have to salt this hotel room too!

The Pont des Arts bridge that ran across the Seine was also known as the Lovers’ Bridge.

The Pont des Arts is a pedestrian bridge which crosses the River Seine, linking the Institut de France and the Louvre. Since late 2008, tourists have taken to attaching padlocks (love locks) with their first names written or engraved on them to the railing or the grate on the side of the bridge, then throwing the key into the Seine river below, as a romantic gesture.

Couples would write their names on padlocks and attach them to the fence as a vow of love. In other words, this bridge was straight-up picking a fight with me.

Keh! Why were we even here?

Let’s just walk faster and head to the Louvre already!

Eh? There were people just standing still!

Don’t tell me every one of them was a member of the Fulfilling Romance Village!?

Hey! Are you seriously running off to buy a padlock!?

You’re not supposed to walk off during the first day, damnit!

“Kaburagi-sama seems to be in a good mood.”

Apparently people were talking about it.

“Do you think he did something fun?”

“He went to see a soccer match in London, so perhaps his team won?”

“Ah, that might be it. Kaburagi-sama loves his sports.”

The reason Kaburagi was in a good mood was probably, no, definitely, thanks to his plans to tour Paris with Wakaba-chan tomorrow.

He was probably completely giddy about it.

The damned idiot was like an open book.

Kaburagi, you’d better not have bought a padlock for this.

On the other hand, I noticed that my maiden friend Class Rep had bought one but couldn’t work up the courage to mention it.

The focus of my free day in Paris was shopping.

A lot of things weren’t being sold in Japan yet, so we got up nice and early to start.

Bags, shoes, accessories, trinkets, sweets… Les Champs-Élysées was a battlefield…!

Champs-Élysées is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops. When I went to the McDonalds here a few years back, it was the biggest one in the world. I think I also had garlic butter escargot on this street…

Ah!

Thanks to Satomi-kun, his group was going shopping with some girls! Thanks to that same guy, I spent last night trembling in fear!

And yet there he was, happily walking down the street surrounded by women!

Unforgivable.

Deadly Sin “Envy”, activate.

Just see how I put a curse on your love-life as you walk away from me, Satomi-kun.

Hmmmm, a lot of these cosmetics were sold for a lot more in Japan. Like this hand cream that I really liked.

I decided to get some for Sakura-chan, Aoi-chan, and the girls at cram school.

But then what about the boys that I knew from there?

I was easy to get presents for girls, but the boys had me stumped.

I mean, there was a reason I was the village chief.

And speaking of boys, Imari-sama was always bringing me souvenirs. I definitely had to get something back.

As the Chief of the Casanova Village, Imari-sama’s demeanour might resemble an Italian, but his taste in clothing leaned towards the elegant fashion houses of France.

Which is why while it would be easy to decide to get him something from Paris, picking something that met his fashionable tastes was a bit too high of a hurdle~

Thanks to our many years together I had a pretty good idea of Oniisama’s taste, but I was at a loss when it came to anybody else.

Again, there was a reason I was the village chief.

Before I left Japan I had asked Oniisama what he thought a good gift for Imari-sama would be, but all he said was, “Consumables.”

So curt!

Oniisama, can’t you put a little more thought into it?

Do you want your best friend to think of your little sister as unfashionable!?

I thought about it though… It wouldn’t do to give Imari-sama sweets, but what about wine?

But I didn’t know his palate, and it probably wasn’t as easy as just buying an expensive one.

I was collecting wine labels for when I was old enough to drink, but honestly I had no idea what was good.

And apparently the famous brands had good years and bad years too.

Plus, a lot of this was coming from my idea that Wine = France, but Oniisama drank California wines quite often.

Actually the first time I saw him drinking some I was shocked, but it turns out that recently California wines tasted better than French wines. Oniisama told me this story about how during a taste test in Paris French wines lost to California wines, and now they called it the Judgement of Paris.

Since it was too profound for me, I was getting more and more reluctant to go with the wine~

Mmn, I think I would just stay away from Wine-sama for now.

After a good bit of shopping, we decided to enter a café for some lunch before we continued.

Since we were taking a break, I decided to ask my group what they thought.

“Presents for a boy, is it~?”

“Yes. I find myself unsure.”

Mmmmm! The French bread was yummy! As expected of its country of origin!

Unlike London, the food was great everywhere we went here.

It was so nice to be in a country with good food~

Naturally I ordered the crème brûlée which featured in Amélie.

I was in a different café to the one in the film though.

I felt a bit like Amélie as I cracked the caramel. Ehehe.

“I think neckties may be the right idea.”

“I’ve bought neckties for my family too.”

“Neckties, hmm?” I hummed.

I had considered those as well. That was why I had chosen Paris to get the souvenirs.

“Well then, after we finish eating how about visit some mens’ stores so that Reika-sama can find a souvenir?” Ru’ne-chan suggested.

Waah! Thank you!

*

*

*

Hmmm. Here I was in a men’s clothing store, and yet I was nowhere closer to a decision.

I had this feeling that neckties were something men cared about. It wouldn’t be nice if he was given a tie he didn’t really want to use…

Lapel pins weren’t much easier to choose.

But cufflinks could just be hidden by your suit jacket, so maybe those would be fine.

Still… Maybe clothing was a bad idea.

Hmmmm…

“I think it may take me some time to decide, so could we meet up afterwards?” I suggested to the girls that came with me.

I’d feel bad if their shopping time was taken up by my indecision in picking souvenirs. I didn’t think I’d be picking something anytime soon.

“But then you would be on your own, Reika-sama.”

“Isn’t shopping on your own just tragic?”

It was nice that they were worried for me, but I was sure they still had places they wanted to see, and they had to be getting bored looking at mens’ clothing.

“I will be fine. Let us pick a time and meet up then.”

“But…”

“Oh, Kisshouin-san?”

“Eh?”

The owner of the voiced was revealed to be Enjou, who entered the store with a group of boys.

“Enjou-sama!” the girls cried.

Enjou walked our way as his sudden appearance caused a few whispered squeals among the girls.

“What are you doing in a place like this, Kisshouin-san?”

“As you can see, I am shopping.”

“Ahh, a present for your oniisan.”

Ah-, hey!

Did he think Oniisama was the only person I had to gift mens’ clothing to!?

Dah, this bastard was looking down on me!

I know I’m unpopular, okay!? Damnit!

“No. In fact I have already bought my brother’s present while in London!””

“Ah, really?”

“Yes. The present I am picking now is for somebody else.”

Ohohohoho! Don’t think the Reika you know in Zui’ran is all there is to me.

“Hmmm.”

Enjou looked at me with an amused smile.

Kuh, don’t look into his eyes, Reika.

He’ll see through your bluff!

“Well what might you be doing here, Enjou-sama?”

“As you can see, I am shopping.”

Tsk.

So Enjou liked expensive brands, did he?

Now that I looked at him he was wearing a fashionable scarf right now.

This store was filled with the kind of elegant clothes that matched his style.

“Ah, umm, Enjou-sama,” began Kikuno-chan, “is Kaburagi-sama not with you?”

Enjou had come in with a group of boys, but we didn’t see Kaburagi amongst them.

“Hm? Masaya is busy with something else right now. We’re meeting up later.”

Enjou suddenly threw a glance my way.

Ah, touring the dessert shops with Wakaba-chan, huh?

According to Wakaba, this morning she would have gone to see the Palace of Versailles, just outside of Paris. Then, after lunch, she’d be hearing back this way, meaning that it was about time that she’d arrive.

It was a pretty long time, but then the Versaille was rather far away.

As the Rococo Queen it was a place I had to visit, but since shopping was our focus for today it was too far for us to consider.

Besides, everyone in the group had already been before.

Still, if time permitted I’d like to have gone.

“Oh, I know! Reika-sama, why don’t you ask Enjou-sama for advice!”

“Huh?”

What the heck are you saying, Ayame-chan!

“Advice?” Enjou inclined his head in question, still smiling gently.

“Yes! Reika-sama has been having a lot of trouble deciding on a gift souvenir. Do you think you could help her, Enjou-sama?”

Hey, come on now.

“My, that will not do, Ayama-san,” I chided. “Enjou-sama has his own…”

“If you’re alright with me, why not, Ojousama?” he interrupted me with a bright smile.

Geeeehhhhh!

I looked back and the girls were all cheering.

What the hell!?

The conversation just advanced without me!

“But Enjou-sama, your friends are…”

“They’re going to shop across the street, so it’s no problem if we split up.”

Uohh, is that so?

“Isn’t that great, Reika-sama!”

“Enjou-sama will know for sure what the best choice is!”

Ahhhh~ I mean, I guess that could be true… But it’s Enjou.

“Kisshouin-san, am I not good enough?” he wondered aloud.

Guh!

The way he said it would make me look like an ingrate if I turned him down now! So sneaky!

“…I will be in your care, then.”

Kuh, I lost…

But since the girls had been dreaming of spending time with Enjou today, I supposed I had no choice…

Or so I thought when they suddenly told me,

“Well then, we’ll be going to another store now~”

“Please take care of Reika-sama, Enjou-sama~”

and left me behind with strange smiles.

What the heck!?

“It looks like your friends are gone.”

“…So it seems.”

So mean…

“Well then, shall we find that present of yours?”

“…I suppose we shall.”

Mn, fine then!

Now that it had come to this I would at least make the best of Enjou’s good fashion sense.

“Do you have anything concrete in mind?” he asked me.

“No, nothing so specific. I am finding it hard to decide…” I admitted. “He would have his own taste in neckties, no?”

“He probably would,” he confirmed.

“But cufflinks and lapel pins are difficult to choose as well…”

“How old is he?” Enjou asked.

“The same age as Oniisama.”

Enjou hummed. “If it’s too difficult choosing clothing, then what if you bought him a business card holder, or a business card case?”

“I see!”

That was a good idea!

“The problem is that some people match them with their clothing line.”

“I see~”

It was quite possible, since this was Imari-sama we were talking about.

“You didn’t consult Takateru-san?”

“Oniisama was adamant that consumables would be best.”

“Ahaha, as expected of him.”

What was expected? Well, whatever.

“Hm, as far as other gifts that don’t need much thought, I guess there’s ball markers?”

“Ball markers?” I asked.

“In golf, there can be a lot of other players’ balls when you’re close to the flagstick. Since they roll around and get in the way, people place ball markers down in their place until it’s their turn to put,” he explained to me.

Ohho~! That was an option too!?

I’d never tried golf, after all, and I didn’t have much interest either, so I had no idea these things even existed!

“But if he is already playing golf, then would he not already have markers that he likes?”

It was fine if he’d never played it before, but if Imari-sama was golfing then he obviously had one.

“That’s true, but you can have as many golf ball markers as you want, after all.”

“Really?”

“Yeah. A lot of people just pick one based on their mood for the day. That’s why they’re like cufflinks.”

“I see~!”

If people kept a lot of them then maybe they wouldn’t be uncomfortable being gifted one more.

“In that case, might it be fine even if there is a problem with his taste?”

“Ahaha! Don’t you have any confidence in your taste, Kisshouin-san? Well, should be fine though. Fashionable people often pick the most unique designs for their markers, after all.”

“Ah, I see! As a bit of a joke!”

This had a low hurdle!

It was settled then! My present to Imari-sama would be a ball marker!

Aaah! Then in that case shouldn’t I have looked for one in England!?

Golf was British!

What an oversight!

I wanted to go back now!

Bring me back to England right this moment!

“What’s wrong? You suddenly look down.”

“…I wish I had known about these golf ball markers back in London.”

“Ah, is that how it is? But I don’t think it matters, you know? Paris has some brands that are pretty famous for golf wear too, but he might appreciate it more if you pick him a brand he doesn’t know. Something he wouldn’t usually think to use.”

“I see!”

Enjou was full of good advice!

Alright, in that case I’d buy any golf ball markers that caught my eye in Paris and Rome, and then at the end I’d give the best one to Imari-sama.

Then the rest could go to Otousama.

Naturally I needed to find some for Oniisama too.

This store was using ball markers as decorations. Oho, cute.

I’d better check some other stores too.

But thank goodness.

With this, I’d addressed my biggest worry.

For once, I was grateful to Enjou.

“Enjou-sama, thank you very much for your wonderful advice.”

“You’re very welcome. It’s an honour to have been of use to you.”

Unexpectedly, Enjou might be a pretty good guy!

We smiled at each other.

Still smiling, Enjou placed his hand on my shoulder.

Hm?

“No need to feel indebted to me, okay, Kisshouin-san?”

He was telling me I was indebted to him…!

Enjou left to meet Kaburagi, while I went on that boat tour down the Seine that we agreed on in London.

And it was a stylish sunset cruise, no less! So dreamy!

Unfortunately we were surrounded by couples.

Ah-, those two were from Zui’ran! And they were holding hands! Didn’t they know that boys were supposed to keep a polite distance after seven!?

Ah-, and that foreigner couple were kissing right now! What did they take public decency for!? …So jealous.

…I suddenly remembered something that I heard once. That being surrounded by girl friends with no boyfriends would make it so that you’d never find one either.

Wasn’t that my situation right now?

Maybe I was unpopular because I was surrounded by unpopular girls…

“This is so fun, Reika-sama! Going on a cruise was the right choice!” Ayame-chan exclaimed with a smile next to me.

Uugh!

What on earth was I thinking!?

Wasn’t it fine to have unpopular friends?

We were on this cruise because I said I wanted to go on one, and we ate those fish and chips because I said I wanted to try some.

Serika-chan even turned into the Phantom for me.

Right! Friends before romance!

We weren’t unpopular, we just prioritised our friendships over anything else.

It’s not that boys didn’t want us, but that we were staying away from boys.

Right.

On another note though, while cruising down the Seine was wonderful and all, it was a little cold doing this in May…

    1. It was mentioned in a previous chapter that whenever her brother finds a wine that she might like, they save the label so she can try it when she comes of age. I believe that they were at a party, or maybe it was at their home.

      1. Hope they don’t mix fruits w/ grain, that would equal terrible hangover. Unless they do it intentionally to make her loathe alcohol it is a bad idea.

  2. Hahaha, the Great Onii-sama doesn’t want Reika getting any closer to the Despicable Cassanova Imari-sama. As expected of the Great Onii-sama!

Black-bellied prince Enjou strikes again!! Reika definitely owes him now!

Cute and unique ball markers for the Great Onii-sama and Imari-sama, but leftovers for the Old Tanuki… Reika, please be kinder to the Tanuki… (here’s to hoping for more Imari-sama and the Great Onii-sama scenes!

And yeah! Bros before hoes! Your girlfriends are great, Reika!!!

    1. May he be tortured with insecurity regarding Reika forever more!

      A fanfic Enjou Pov…

I noticed an Odd sighting, across the road I saw Kisshouin san entering a Men’s apparel store, my interest piqued I decided to go look, my followers came with me wondering why I was suddenly motivated to check out clothing. This army of young men had often spoken of our Empresses entourage, many had unrequited feelings for Kisshouins top 2 generals, Reika herself was untouchable as the Empress whose love rumors were the stuff of legends. None of these lads thought they would be considered by her in the slightest, they better keep thinking that way…

My eyebrow twitched as I heard her telling friends that she was fine to look for her gift alone, it was then that he decided to interrupt and assist,

“What are you doing in a place like this, Kisshouin-san?” hmm I wonder who that gift is for? perhaps her brother?

“As you can see, I am shopping.” Hmm… is she trying to be mysterious? perhaps hinting that it is for a lover? lets squash that right now…

“Ahh, a present for your oniisan.” I tilt my head with a gentle smile…

Hah! that expressive face of hers really leaves nothing to the imagination, she looks rather indignant, as though thinking “He’s not the only man I buy presents for!!” oh she looks a little riled up, her fluffy hair was practically bristling, or was that just frizz, Kisshouin you should check your hair in the Mirror… but I was highly amused! she was getting even more fluffy, seriously I want to pat those soft curls, her head rose as she crushed my enjoyment abruptly…

“No. In fact, I have already bought my brother’s present while in London!”

Then perhaps it’s for her Father? but something warned me not to mention that this time round, she looked ready to step on me, not that I wouldn’t mind… hmm what did I think just now?… shaking such thoughts aside I was reluctant to find out more, yet overly curious at the same time…

“Ah, really?” I tried not to look invested, having an air of disregard is a must when dealing with Kisshouin…

“Yes. The present I am picking now is for somebody else.”

Oh dear her feathers are really ruffled now, she’s readying herself for the big reveal… why are my fists clenched?

“Hmmm.” But why do I get the impression that it is not a lover… but more like… hmmm something else… she has so many signs that she’s not being completely forthcoming, little tells that hint at something else, let’s test the waters…

I looked at her with an amused smile, watching her eyes dart around without looking at me directly, are you bluffing Kisshouin? suddenly I felt relieved, just why was I so tense a moment ago?

“Well, what might you be doing here, Enjou-sama?”

“As you can see, I am shopping.”

She gave me a surly look, it was rather cute… her little mouth pouted then mouthed a silent “Tsk”

I noticed her looking at my clothing, I felt like posing, nonchalantly, of course, I mean shes looking at me for once, not trying to run away…

“Ah, umm, Enjou-sama,” began Kikuno-chan, “is Kaburagi-sama not with you?”

Ah… I had completely forgotten there were other people with us… why do they fade into the background whenever I am with Kisshouin?

“Hm? Masaya is busy with something else right now. We’re meeting up later.”

I was aware that she and Masaya had spent a great deal of time in preparation for his Romantic liaisons with Wakaba… I was rather curious about what those meetings were like… I suddenly felt rather Irritated…that idiot got to spend so much time with her… I felt a sudden need to intervene somehow… I disliked being left out, anything to do with Kisshouin was always entertaining, … perhaps its time to get more involved? She had been rather resentful lately… but if I get too involved then she will certainly escape and leave me with that love sick fool…. hmm… what to do?

I looked at Kisshouin, she seemed deep in thought, no doubt thinking about that idiot’s romantic endeavors, hey! you’re here with me! I felt an urge to snap my fingers… how annoying…

“Oh, I know! Reika-sama, why don’t you ask Enjou-sama for advice!”

Well done, you are a fine General… no, my wingman… thank you for getting things back on track, Kisshouin focus on me now… forget that idiot… no wait… rumors have it that I and Masaya are after Reika… then what cruel and heartless girls to suggest that I find a gift for her lover!!

      “Huh?”

Do you have to make it that obvious how awful you feel that suggestion is?… am I really that repugnant? I struggled to give everyone a gentle smile, my face muscles might cramp…

“Advice?” I questioned, still smiling gently.

“Yes! Reika-sama has been having a lot of trouble deciding on a gift souvenir. Do you think you could help her, Enjou-sama?”

Kisshouin… if you saw your face right now… please be considerate even if it’s purely fake, stop looking so damn horrified! I’m the one that should feel bothered these callous girls want me, one of your supposed admirers to find a suitable gift for another man!

“My, that will not do, Ayama-san,” she chided. “Enjou-sama has his own…”

Don’t think you’re going to escape me Kisshouin! I have far to much invested interest in tracking down who this person is!

“If you’re alright with me, why not, Ojousama?” I interrupted her with a bright smile.

Shes squirming now, that absolute desire to refuse and be far away but unable to…

      “But Enjou-sama, your friends are…”

Enough with your excuses Kisshouin just give up! tell me who it is that you are spending money on!

“They’re going to shop across the street, so it’s no problem if we split up.”

She’s frowning now… you will get wrinkles if you keep that up….

“Isn’t that great, Reika-sama!” Ah these insensitive girls… my pretend wingmen…

“Enjou-sama will know for sure what the best choice is!”

You can just tell shes battling the sensible logic of her friends words in dismay…

“Kisshouin-san, am I not good enough?” I wondered aloud. lets put the nail on her coffin, give up Kisshouin you are mine… I mean you are in my clutches now!

Did she just give me a dirty look? it’s as though she thinks I did something underhanded.. her lips are curling… really, you are an open book! how unpleasant of a person do you I am! However, a small part of me was enjoying this tug of war with her… who would win?

“…I will be in your care, then.”

Hah! I won! my prize is yo… what am I thinking?… shoving such thoughts aside I grinned to myself triumphantly…

“Well then, we’ll be going to another store now~”

“Please take care of Reika-sama, Enjou-sama~”

That look of betrayal and abandonment clearly etched on her doll like face… those large brown eyes framed by naturally thick lashes stared mournfully at their retreating backs… my heart was hurting somewhat… she really knew how to smash a mans pride to dust…

“It looks like your friends are gone.”

      You’re mine now… I mean you’re trapped…

      “…So it seems.”

She hung her head in defeat… those curls framing her face as she looked up at me, my… she really is so very beautiful, even with that sullen expression…

“Well then, shall we find that present of yours?”

Smiling at her, I felt a curious sensation, I was strangely happy… but then I remembered what I was actually doing… helping her buy a gift for another man…

      “…I suppose we shall.”

“Do you have anything concrete in mind?” I asked

I felt strangely unsettled and restless…

“No, nothing so specific. I am finding it hard to decide…” she admitted.

“He would have his own taste in neckties, no?”

She doesn’t know his preference, that means she isn’t in contact with him often.. I felt glad..

      “He probably would,” I confirmed.

“But cufflinks and lapel pins are difficult to choose as well…”

He’s not young, nor near her age… these gifts are for a more mature man… I needed to confirm it…

“How old is he?” I asked.

      “The same age as Oniisama.”

An adult… possibly a friend of her brother… or an acquaintence? Perhaps someone related to her Father?… I had noticed she seemed rather friendly with older guys… but then again she was friendly with guys her own age as well, was it just me and Masaya who were shunned? hmmm if I recall there were a few others on her dislike list…

The tale of her crushing The sports jocks at the festival planning meeting was rather infamous, even now they still quake whenever she come, near… I too was on the recieving end of her Anger, I still remember the pain of that punch… while I did ask for it, I wasn’t prepared for the force or strength, despite looking so soft and fluffy, she has a powerful attack mode…

I hummed. Lets give her bland generic gift ideas while making them sound good… just who was that guy?

“If it’s too difficult choosing clothing, then what if you bought him a business card holder, or a business card case?”

      “I see!”

She seemed to like that idea… lets crush it…

“The problem is that some people match them with their clothing line.”

      “I see~”

I rather enjoyed seeing her face light up…

      “You didn’t consult Takateru-san?”

“Oniisama was adamant that consumables would be best.”

      “Ahaha, as expected of him.”

He seems to want bland gifts as well, are we comrades? it is known that Kisshouin is a bro-con, but it seems he is a sis-con as well… such a difficult rival to overcome, farewell former comrade…

She seems confused by my reaction, I like how clueless she is at times…

“Hm, as far as other gifts that don’t need much thought, I guess there’s ball markers?”

Perhaps he will also think she gave very little thought about this gift, I smiled inwardly…

      “Ball markers?” she asked.

“In golf, there can be a lot of other players’ balls when you’re close to the flagstick. Since they roll around and get in the way, people place ball markers down in their place until it’s their turn to put,” he explained to me.

There it is again, that delighted expression, it’s a shame its not directed at me though… but I caused it… so thats a win right?

“But if he is already playing golf, then would he not already have markers that he likes?”

Since she has no clue if he plays golf or not, then this present might be unused, I’m rather pleased she is so clueless about his preferences or knowlegeable of his activities… I would certainly hate to see cuffs bought by her on him, or lapel pins… I get the feeling this guy would definitely wear them…

“That’s true, but you can have as many golf ball markers as you want, after all.”

Yes Kisshouin, pile golf markers on this guy shower him with it, I was feeling rather good!

      “Really?”

“Yeah. A lot of people just pick one based on their mood for the day. That’s why they’re like cufflinks.”

      “I see~!”

(As a side note there is a golf maker worth 10k…)

“In that case, might it be fine even if there is a problem with his taste?”

“Ahaha! Don’t you have any confidence in your taste, Kisshouin-san? Well, should be fine though. Fashionable people often pick the most unique designs for their markers, after all.”

Lets encourage her to buy the most gaudy looking one there is!

“Ah, I see! As a bit of a joke!”

      “I see!”

Ah she is in a good mood, her fluffiness is making her look radiant… the feeling between us was good as well…

“Enjou-sama, thank you very much for your wonderful advice.”

“You’re very welcome. It’s an honour to have been of use to you.”

      We smiled at each other.

Still smiling, I placed my hand on her shoulder.

      She looked at me questioningly

“No need to feel indebted to me, okay, Kisshouin-san?”

She looked down again… I think the message was clear, I had to punish her… She struggled valiantly to avoid my company, while amusing, was also annoying and irritating, at first I thought it was for her beloved Onii sama, but it wasn’t, it was for someone else, this unknown guy was making me feel strangely restless, is it any wonder that I wanted to punish you a little… you owe me now Kisshouin… but then again, I owe her far more…

I watched those delighted expressions with some amusement, but underlying feelings of annoyance and irritating grew, to the point that I couldn’t help turning a moment of shared comfort between us into retribution. I didn’t know why I would constantly put Kisshouin san at odds like this, but my irritation had grown over the years, she continually tried to avoid me, and Masaya, ever since we were young, it had gotten to the point that I thought she hated us.

However, I remembered clearly the first moment I saw her. Kisshouins Parents stood in front with her trailing behind. When they stepped aside, there she was, her features so refined and beautiful that it was difficult not to stare, while standing still she truly looked like an exquisite porcelain doll, but then she walked in with a slightly sullen expression her large brown eyes looked around, those soft curls that framed her face bounced cutely. Then her eyes met with mine, and that was the beginning…

I gotta say, Reika sama does tend to react poorly towards those 2, people can pick up on negative vibes, and Enjou would more than likely be aware of it, lets not forget that these 2 haven’t really done anything bad to her when they were young, but she had made it very clear she wanted nothing to do with them, while respectful and polite she made every effort to stay away from the both of them… they could have become friends if she wasn’t so vigilant of how they both crushed her family.

  5. Poor Reika… she really needs to find herself a good man soon.
I mean, with over 220 chapters or many years later in school with no man, that’s just had. Just how much of a sadist is the author?

  6. Have Enjou just dug a pit for Reika and she innocently jumped on it?……. I’m pretty sure that he said to get ball markers just because they are the most stupid gift, even more than consumables………….
And onii-sama…. for him to try to not let Reika-sama near Imari… does he thinks that his sister doesn’t know that Imari is a Casanova and would fall for him and pursue him? Or does he thinks that his Casanova friend might have feelings for his little sister and might be successful in flirting with her but because of his previous track he finds it troublesome for his sister?

    Thanks for the chapter!

    1. Also, if he keeps an eye out during golf, he can figure out who the guy Reika is buying souvenirs for, is.

Similarly, did you notice that Yukino warmed up to Reika the moment she said Enjou gave her souvenirs? I bet this is not a common thing with Enjou.

    2. Nah, I think Enjou is actually just being straightforward. I mean besides taking the excuse to hang around the girl he likes.

I just wish he’d make more of a spectacle for the ojousama peanut gallery. But I guess Reika might find that too pushy.

  7. Thank you for the amazing chapter! Good luck with your work! This one was soooooo sweet and Enjou was so romantic omg even his sadistic remark at the end was cute, when he came into the shop he totally only had eyes for Reika~ this gondola is shakily advancing~

  8. Another jab at English cuisine XDD I do like a lot of English food, but there are more than a few dishes that I have to side-eye. ;p

Reika, can you really talk about others’ taste in brand items when you go for those french hand creams -_-

    (Shipping glasses-ON!!!) A Paris shopping date!?!? Ooh la la~ A set-up date, true, but still. He seems to be doing well with helping Reika, at least, until the end there ^^;

    …Hmmm, I would’ve never thought of giving ball markers as a gift…

Anyways, I really, Really, REALLY want to see interactions between Oniisama and Enjou. Also, I wonder how “unpopular” Reika and her clique are~

Thanks so much for the newest translations! Best of luck with your work schedule!

  10. YaY~ a Reika-sama chapter. Midterms are coming up so I’m low on rainbows and fluff🌚😝 Reika-sama’s friends though are like the Reika-Enjou shippers and it’s really funny how it seems like Enjou’s been probing on the person (Imari) who’ll receive Reika-sama’s gift (΄◞ิ౪◟ิ‵) ufufu haraguro Enjou is still being sly.

And that cream brûlée though, such a deadly weapon…🤤 thanks for the chapter Este-sama!!

“Still smiling, Enjou placed his hand on my shoulder.”

I don’t want to know what Enjou is going to do with that hand later.

‘“No need to feel indebted to me, okay, Kisshouin-san?”

He was telling me I was indebted to him…!’

Lol’ed at Enjou showing some of that black belly we’ve been hearing about

  12. >Kuh, don’t look into his eyes, Reika.

    >He’ll see through your bluff!

No, you–that’s not how it works, Reika. Avoiding eye contact is pretty much the definition of being suspicious!

It’s innocent and cute that you still remember Onii-sama’s teasing from childhood, about how you look to the right when you lie, but…:*facepalm*

    1. The dignity of the queen must be maintained after all.

      – In all interactions, all petitioners for her attention may only enter or speak to the Reika by formal written invitation.
      – The queen is usually seated in a prepared room of her choosing. Supplicants must approach the throne and kneel at a respectful distance until given permission to speak.
      – Supplicants may only speak when spoken to.
      – When permission is given, a brief request is made, upon which the queen will consider the petitioner’s request. The silence is long and awkward in order to cause the petitioner to fret and worry.
      – The queen must be properly feared, for it is better to be feared than loved. Although it goes without saying that she is loved too.

    ===
I do not understand. The guillotine was a recent enough invention that it counts as part of the pre-modern period of history.
“Until very recently” says practically nothing.

  14. — Thanks for the chapter~ ^^.

Even though there is so many things I would have wanted to talk about or comment on, I’ll refrain since it’s too many, haha. Guess having so many good things to talk about isn’t always good huh, I have a hard time constructing my thoughts to an organized one, and it’s long.!!! So I’ll just make it short and pick some.

Enjou, hmm.. Wonder if we’ll be seeing more of Enjou starting from now.? or still the usual appearance rate? since I’m getting some weird feeling from the latest events/happenings with Enjou being mentioned here and there or appearing.

I’m getting stressed lately, really stressed, hehe. And reading this chapter and the previous one made me relax quite a lot, I have been able to sleep peacefully :)

With all the good events/happenings lately in Kenyo, I’m really desiring a POV chapter of another character, hehe. Well, that’s it, I guess? will get too long otherwise.

  15. “I was easy to get presents for girls, but the boys had me stumped.

I mean, there was a reason I was the village chief.”
    <– It* was easy…(spelling mistake)
<– Our Reika has some awareness of why she's chief of Forever Alone Village?!? *gasp*

“Oh, I know! Reika-sama, why don’t you ask Enjou-sama for advice!” <– here comes the friends setting the two of them up for a shopping date! Good job, girls!

“If you’re alright with me, why not, Ojousama?” he interrupted me with a bright smile. <– Enjou is probably thanking Ayame in his head for giving him this opportunity.

    “But Enjou-sama, your friends are…”

“They’re going to shop across the street, so it’s no problem if we split up.” <– Um…but Enjou's friends JUST entered the shop WITH him not two seconds ago. LOL that's some STRONG hint to them to leave Enjou and Reika alone!

“Hm, as far as other gifts that don’t need much thought, I guess there’s ball markers?” <– I can't decide if Enjou is being serious here or not. I mean, I've never heard of giving ball markers as a souvenir/gift. And do Imari and the other guys she's shopping for even play golf?!? -___- But he's actually giving her serious and detailed advice.

“No need to feel indebted to me, okay, Kisshouin-san?”

He was telling me I was indebted to him…! <– Enjouuuu, it was going so well!! WHY?!?

    1. I enjoyed reading your reactions! XD Ohh! You are so right! I didn’t even think about why his friends had literally JUST walked in as he announces they were just leaving. Why did they even come in then? XD I wonder if Enjou’s friends and Reika’s friends went off together somewhere while silently cheering the two of them on. And yeah, I think Enjou just loves to tease her too much. It was going so well, Enjou! DX

  18. Caught up with latest chapter yesterday. Thank you for tranalating this beautiful story. I enjoyed it sooo much, mainly because the translation is so good. I’d say its comparable to any light novel official translation, if not better, except they would probably omit some japanese words being used here. And thats the thing, none of those inserted japanese word sounds weird when I was reading it here, despite it being mixed with English sentences. Props to the translator team. Loved Reika and her friends :)

I also wrote a 5-star review at novelupdates so that more people will give this a try.
