In order to maintain Mao-chan’s image of me, I was going to work hard at cram school once again.
Next time I was aiming for rank 25. For now I was just taking little steps. But one day…
With renewed determination in my heart I opened my exercise book. It was around that time that Umewaka-kun and his friends arrived.
“Hey Kisshouin-san,” he said, “I just heard but apparently the guy over by the door, second row from the front, is actually from Zui’ran too. Do you know him?”
“Eh?”
This was the first I’d heard of any Zui’ran student going to my cram school. I squinted to get a better look at him but I had no idea who he was.
“I cannot say that I do… I suspect that we have simply never had a class together.”
“Really? But he seems to know you, Kisshouin-san.”
“Truly?”
“I hear he only started coming to this cram school this year. If you’re from the same school, maybe you could talk to him?”
“I suppose I could.”
Since he was from Zui’ran I decided I should at least greet him.
It wasn’t possible now that our teacher had arrived but I could do so during the break.
When that break came around, I walked over to him but when he saw me his expression turned obviously frightened. Eh? How come?
“I have been told that you attend Zui’ran. Might this be true?”
“Ah! Yes…”
Apparently this diligent and somewhat plain-looking boy was named Tagaki-kun, and had entered the high school as an External.
“My name is Kisshouin Reika. May we get along.”
“Yes, I know who you are of course…” he said oddly fearfully.
Come on, is there really a need to be like that?
“What class are you in, Tagaki-kun? Who do you attend Zui’ran with?”
“Ummm… I’m in Enjou-san’s class…”
“Enjou-sama?”
Didn’t that mean he was in the same class as Wakaba-chan?
“Then that would place you with Takamichi-san. Are you close with her?”
“Eh!? No, not particularly…”
“I see. What is she like in class? Does she have friends?”
“Ah… I think she does…”
So she made friends too. Thank goodness. I was worried she would be completely isolated. It made sense though, since it wasn’t like the whole school hated her. Only some people hated her. Some rather troublesome people, though.
Before I returned to my seat, I told him to talk to me if he had any questions since he was attending here alone.
“He was from Zui’ran, right?”
“Yes. But because our classes are different he is honestly little more than a stranger. He seems to know of me, however.”
“What’s this? Kisshouin-san, are you famous at your school?”
“Kisshouin-san stands out after all~”
“Actually,” I explained, “I have been attending Zui’ran since primary school, which is why I am better-known than those who joined later.”
By some chance my eyes passed over Tagaki-kun’s back. Maybe he noticed somehow because he turned around and our eyes met before he quickly turned away. Hmmm~ I wonder how he saw me…
“Oh? Kisshouin-san, could he be scared of you?”

Later at home I got an email from Bea-tan.
“Do your best! I’m your friend, Reika-tan! Your confidante, Beatrice.”

On a clear, beautiful morning, I bumped into Enjou at the entrance to the school building.
“Morning, Kisshouin-san.”
“Good morning, Enjou-sama.”
And then for some reason we ended up heading to class together. We passed by a number of girls who stopped to stare at him in a daze.
I was so jealous… I wasn’t even doing anything but pretty much every boy averted his eyes from me in fear…
“What’s wrong, Kisshouin-san?”
“Nothing.”
“I see,” he smiled brightly.
Some of the girls watching on began squealing.
“Are you not with Kaburagi-sama on this morning?”
“Well it’s not like we go to school together. Wait, don’t tell me you think that each morning we happily ride the same car here? Wouldn’t that be pretty creepy for two high school boys? We go to school at the same time, so I guess we bump into each other a lot.”
“My, is that how it was?”
But I’ve seen you two get out of the same car a few times, yanno.
Maybe he noticed something from my expression because he added,
“Speaking of which, there actually was a period when I went to pick him up. I couldn’t really take my eyes off him at the time. I still have to thank you for your help back then.”
Enjou flashed another smile.
…Back then, huh.
“It was thanks to you risking life and limb that we somehow got Masaya to cheer up. Thanks again.”
“You are welcome…”
The way he worded that particularly annoyed me. So he was the one who made me out to be a reject woman!
“And it looks like my brother has been in your care too. The other day he brought home this toy that he said you taught him to make.”
“Oh, the snow rabbit!”
Yukino-kun. He was a pure-white little angel-chan, unlike his wicked black-hearted older brother. I prayed that he wouldn’t be led astray by Enjou’s evil influence.
“So it’s called needle felting. I had no idea you had that kind of hobby. My brother was quite happy about it.”
“I see. Then it makes me happy that he enjoyed it.”
I thought back on his innocent smile and couldn’t help but smile myself.
“It seems that the snow rabbit had special importance to him. He told me about how you and Kaburagi-sama built snowmen for him. You really spoil him, Enjou-sama.”
“Well, we’ve got quite an age difference after all. And he hasn’t got the best constitution either. Doesn’t your own brother spoil you quite a bit too? Why according to the rumours, you’re practically a brocon, Kisshouin-san. Although lately it’s been leaning towards fathercon instead.”
Tanuki!
“It is certainly true that my brother and I have always been close, but I have not the faintest idea how the accusations of being a fathercon came about.”
“Ohh? I see.”
Enjou gave an amused smile.
Still under the gaze of other girls, we walked together as far as the front of his classroom, before he stopped at the door-frame.
“Oh, by the way,” he muttered, “Is it because you love your much older brother so much that your taste is also for older men?”
“Eh?”
Enjou grinned at me and then headed inside.
…Scary. Who was he talking about just now?
Feeling gloomy despite the nice weather, I headed for my own classroom when a small racket caught my attention. It was an excited-looking Nonose-san and Miharu-chan.
“I told you that the chamberlain wasn’t suited for the princess! A princess needs a prince!”
“But I was rooting for the chamberlain.”
“Why not console him?”
Whatever it was, they seemed to be having fun chatting about it.
Nonose-san and Miharu-chan went and called out to Class Rep. He seemed delighted that Miharu-chan was coming over to talk to him.
As for me, Ru’ne-chan and the others mobbed me and asked what Enjou and I were chatting to happily about.

Forgive my excitement. Perhaps reika’s lack of romantic moments make it EnjouxReika moment much stronger in its appeal (considering recent addition of Yukino into the picture). Yep im aboard this ship, aye captain aye.
Even if this ship is actually Titanic, do not forget Enjou is smart and Reika has high survival instinct. They would survive better than The Power of A Plank could provide them with!!!

I suspect he means someone different. Remember when Reika made up the story how she liked a friend of her brother in cram school (I think it went like this). Maybe her friends in cram school and the new boy were gossiping and that’s how Enjou heard.

it isn’t automatically creepy. He could’ve heard that by chance. Just like Reika was aware of where Enjou and Kaburagi spent their summer vacation (mediteranean sea) in year 1 of elementary school by her followers. They refer to each other by their last names. It’s a polite way to adress one another, if you’re not close as friend/family. Which would be them calling each other in a more friendlier term: by first name, nickname or etc.

It is quite a familiar emotion for boys, I think, that there is not only a pretty girl that catches your attention, but you suffer under the perception that she is far beyond your league. Worse still, as far as anybody in high society is concerned, Reika *is* out of your league. You filthy unwashed peasant.
And watcha going to do about it? You live by the same rules and have internalized them your whole life. So yes, far much saner and politic to keep your tucked down.

I think I can see why. She’s repulsed by Kaburagi because she doesn’t see him as being all that mature. And she was formerly a ~20 year old woman trapped with bratty grade schoolers. Small surprise that she swoons for mature older men.
I’m remembering a certain chapter where they’re at a really upscale traditional Japanese dinner on a field trip and the other girls are leaving their seats and being rowdy — big breach of etiquette. You sometimes forget that Reika must’ve looked really mature and put-together when growing up.

I think it’s not just how old she was. It seems like Reika was into older guys even in her younger years in her previous life just by going off by the fact her first crush was her older cousin. I’m just going to insert my experience here and mesh it with my theory, but since in her previous life she’s been teased/bullied a little by the boys in her age group, compared to immature, mean kids vs older/kinder/calmer guys, I would (rather I prefer) pick the latter. So I’d think that older men has always been more to her taste.
Sometimes I forget that in her previous life she was about 20~ish but that example you made bout the whole etiquette thing as well as her disapproving thoughts on the girls who left their seats is actually a good example. I recall someone criticising on how despite being a former 20 ish year old Reika wasn’t mature/acting how old she was etc but I think moments like that show the subtlety of her age. Her general calmness too. Thinking about this makes me applaud the author even more for making such a fleshed, well-rounded character.

As for the actual chapter, man does Enjou sound defensive lol. He noticed that Reika didn’t believe him about not sticking to Kaburagi in the morning, so he deflected with the rejected woman comment. And over Yukino, he deflected with the brocon/fathercon stuff. Seems like he’s the one who noticed her first love was Tomoe-senpai, not Kaburagi (although she didn’t really hide it well, we only know of Chairman as the only other person who knew about it), and he alluded to Ichinokura, her potential second love. It looks like he’s pretty conscious of Reika’s love life, and that last comment from him comes across as a little bitter lol.

There is a lot of little things that hint he’s a major love interest down the line. I suppose it’s possible the author could throw in a twist, but I put long odds on that.
The most important bit is that Enjou is actually her type. She’s admitted to liking his face over Kaburagi’s if it’s just about the looks. She’s also basically described liking kind types who can get her excited. She says she doesn’t like Maiden-kun because while he’s a nice guy, he isn’t a bad boy or adventurous enough for her.
Reika’s interactions with Takateru actually mirrors her relationship with Enjou pretty closely for this reason. Enjou and Takateru like being able to see through Reika’s mask to the stupidity underneath and using it to bait, tease and prank her. If Reika is a cat, then they’re the guys that like dangling a bit of string at her or having her chase the laser pointer.
Secondly, Enjou is the only other boy besides maybe Ichinokura to take a personal interest in her. And he’s the only other apparent real contender for her affections. Besides Maiden-kun, these two boys are the only ones who know about the real Reika.

I wouldn’t say that Enjou is her type actually.
Regardless of what Takateru actually thinks, he treats her delicately on the outside and rarely overtly makes fun of her.

I’ve mixed feelings with Enjou. I actually like that he understands Reika’s true self better than everyone else at school, though he still doesn’t know enough. At the same time, since he understands she wants nothing to do with him or Kaburagi, I wonder why he insists in getting involved with her.
I will be so angry at him if he wants to use her… I’ll be even angrier if it turns out he wants her to end up with Kaburagi. Those two are so dense, they really aren’t compatible. As long as it isn’t the case, then I’m happy.

Read first sentence of your comment slowly. He knows she doesn’t want anything to do with him,but still doesn’t leave her alone. Always keeps track of what she is doing. What do you think all these are signs of.

He just tried to befriend her. that’s I ship! afterall he think of Reika as an interesting person. and although he seems a kind of man (whose personality like a wolf in sheep clothing), he’s actually a nice man that cares a lot about people who’s close to him (like his angel little brother or Kaburagi).. so I don’t mind if Reika befriend him, just as a friend though.. good friend maybe😊
and please Reika-Enjou shipper don’t hate me.. I just a fellow reader who expressed my own opinion..✌
and afterall everything is depend on the author whether she (I assumed she’s a she) is gonna pair Reika with Enjou or Kaburagi or with other nice older gentleman..😛

I’m definitely an Enjou/Reika shipper (or at least I own the glasses). And I’m okay with taking the glasses off too if he’s not what Reika should deserve or want. And I agree that it’s this dynamic they have and the people they are that makes it fun to read when they have scenes together, regardless of their possible future (although at the rate Reika’s going, she’s definitely going to remain the chief of the Forever Alone Village for a LOOONNGGG time XDDD).

My question is, if Enjou is so caught up with what’s going on with Reika. Does that mean he knows what happened at the Pivoine and will he intervene if there are misunderstandings about her bullying go out of control? Because that is how will know if he is interested/a nice enough guy or if his interest only goes as far as using her.

What if he doesn’t want to intervene? What if he wants to keep her out of the reach of all of the Suiran guys?
Birdbrain is one of the vectors of her reputation. While Enjou probably doesn’t have that much influence over Fellow Stalking Horse, he could probably reign in the rumors or talk with the Monk in a public place to help spread the word about Reika’s inoffensive nature.

Why did he conveniently walk down with Reika and pass along his classroom (which has Wakaba in it)? I mean, right after the Pivoines request?
(Possible correct answer: he helps indirectly showing proof of Reika ‘doing her job’ to regulate the students)

What I find most amusing is that Reika nonchalantly admitted that she is a bro-con and is into older guys. If poor Enjou,by chance, trying to hit on her then he was shot down subtly but savagely.

Im gonna have to make up my own Enjou PoV coz I dont think there will ever be one!
Yukino came home in high spirits, running up to his Onii sama presenting his latest project, Enjou smiled at his little brother who seemed to be happier lately, he wondered if he got a new friend, he hoped so.
“Well what is it?” Yukino gave him an excited grin pulling out books till he found his treasured possession,
“A rabbit?” Yukino nodded, “Reika Onee sama taught me how to do this” beamed Yukino proudly, “She said I was very good at this too!”
Enjous eyes widened, Reika can do handicrafts? a baffled smile appeared. Patting Yukinos head praising his hard work.
“So does Reika Onee sama come often to visit?”
Yukino nods, as he looked at the rabbit happily, look here little brother thought Enjou, focus on the question.
“To speak to you?” Yukino shook his head.
“She comes to see Mao chan, they are very close!” Enjou patted Yukinos head.
“So how did you both meet?”
“She came to visit Mao chan, and then, I got her something to drink and she thought I was a good boy!” his cheeks flushed, he seemed quite pleased.
“Yes, she gets on really well with all the other kids! shes really nice!, and Mao Chans Uncle really likes her too!”
“Mao chans … Uncle?” Enjous eyes narrowed, Yukino nodded.
“They even go out together, sometimes with Mao chan other times just the two of them, Mao chan always shows off about Reika Onee sama” Yukino pouted, hmm does he want a closer relationship with Reika?
So she likes older guys huh, maybe Ill find out a little bit of information about this “Uncle”

Enjou’s POV
I stepped out of the car into the driveway just in time to hear another car pull up behind ours. I could see its passenger emerge into the sunlight. You couldn’t mistake that curled hair for anybody else’s.
It goes without saying that Pivoine members are never more punctual than they want to be. Yep, it’s human nature to want to sleep in. Although it would be beneath their dignity as the elite of the elite to ever admit it.
That said, Reika-san is one of the diligent ones. When I still shared a class with her in middle school, she’d always come earlier than me to class and you could find her sitting quietly or reviewing her notes. She must really be running late today.
“Morning, Kisshouin-san.”
Reika notices me and immediately stiffens like a deer caught in headlights. She forces her smile wide until her dimples show.
“Good morning, Enjou-sama.”
She looks like she wants to run, but I’m not letting this rare chance pass. I can’t just casually approach any of the girls. And Reika herself is usually surrounded by her friends. The commotion would just be too big.
As it was, we were drawing a lot of attention on the way to classes. She glances at some of the onlooking girls and boys. Then turns a resentful glare on me.
“What’s wrong, Kisshouin-san?”
“Nothing.”
“I see.”
I smile and some nearby girls squeal. People usually forgive me if I just smile but Reika isn’t impressed.
“Are you not with Kaburagi-sama on this morning?”
“Well it’s not like we go to school together.”
The resentful glare turns into a disbelieving look. This girl. She’s definitely thinking of something weird again.
“Wait, don’t tell me you think that each morning we happily ride the same car here? Wouldn’t that be pretty creepy for two high school boys? We go to school at the same time, so I guess we bump into each other a lot.”
“My, is that how it was?”
She still looks as if she doesn’t believe me.
“Speaking of which, there actually was a period when I went to pick him up. I couldn’t really take my eyes off him at the time. I still have to thank you for your help back then.”
Well, I really do owe her. Masaya can be a handful sometimes. Despite how he looks, he’s like a sensitive maiden.
“It was thanks to you risking life and limb that we somehow got Masaya to cheer up. Thanks again.”
“You are welcome…”
Reika responds hesistantly. Her eyes begin to turn resentful again.
“And it looks like my brother has been in your care too. The other day he brought home this toy that he said you taught him to make.”
Reika’s eyes light up, like the sun coming out from behind a cloud.
“Oh, the snow rabbit!”
“So it’s called needle felting. I had no idea you had that kind of hobby. My brother was quite happy about it.”
“I see. Then it makes me happy that he enjoyed it.”
A silly and contented expression fills Reika’s face. Mmm. I know how you feel. My baby brother is quite cute isn’t he? He wouldn’t stop talking about the graceful and perfect onee-sama. You would think he was talking about some other girl.
“It seems that the snow rabbit had special importance to him. He told me about how you and Kaburagi-sama built snowmen for him. You really spoil him, Enjou-sama.”
Well that really does bring me back.
“Well, we’ve got quite an age difference after all. And he hasn’t got the best constitution either. Doesn’t your own brother spoil you quite a bit too? Why according to the rumours, you’re practically a brocon, Kisshouin-san. Although lately it’s been leaning towards fathercon instead.”
Reika looks surprised for a moment but forces on a polite smile once more.
“It is certainly true that my brother and I have always been close, but I have not the faintest idea how the accusations of being a fathercon came about.”
“Ohh? I see.”
Well somebody as famous as Reika always had a few strange rumors floating about. And given her behavior, you could never be sure. If you watched her from a distance and she was just sitting around or talking to friends, then Reika looked like the perfectly composed ojousama. That impression didn’t last long under fire though.
We approached my classroom.
“Oh, by the way.”
Speaking of strange rumors.
“Is it because you love your much older brother so much that your taste is also for older men?”
“Eh?”
Reika’s eyes are wide with shock and confusion. I turn and enter the classroom.
Oh crap. I can’t stop grinning. Provoking her reactions is too much fun.

Y’know, it’s not all that unusual if Reika favors older men. I mean, as a reincarnater since birth, she’s mentally twice her physical age. Too bad she hadn’t matured at all.

At this point I’m not sure if Reika (a) doesn’t realize that everyone in the school knows her, (b) is pretending to them or (c) is pretending to HERSELF.
It’s always funny that the girls go “kya kya” whenever she seems to get along with Kaburagi and Enjou. On the other hand, one of them glances Wakaba’s way and everyone hates her.
Reika likes mature men that treat her like a delicate princess. She doesn’t like boys that make fun of her or are scared of her. In fact, considering how often she brings it up she must really hate boys being afraid of her.
So is Nonose or Miharu that thinks Class Rep should get with Reika? Probably Miharu since that is the cruelest option…

I’ve noticed something quite peculiar 🤔 How Reika-sama calls Enjou, “Enjou-‘sama’,” but he just use ‘-san’? Isn’t that disrespectful?
Anyways, why he so nosey? Reika has good taste in men, you simply don’t fit the bill. My condolences, but why you in her biz?

The honorific “-san” is perfectly polite though. If anything, “-sama” is a bit over the top (especially for environments that are not as prissy as Suiran) – that’s why Reika prefers her friends call her “-chan.” Kaburagi, on the other hand, doesn’t use honorifics at all (towards people of the same age)…then again, neither does Fellow Stalking Horse. I guess rather than rude, in context it’s just more ‘casual’? They are teenage boys, after all – got a ‘tough’ image to maintain.

I think it’s just mostly that Reika errs on the side of being overly formal and respectful because she doesn’t want to get close to the Kimidol male protags. Enjou treats her more informally because he thinks of her as more like a classmate or an equal, not somebody he has to drive wide around out of fear that she’ll smite him.

Yes, I agree that Reika is definitely just going along with the majority (maybe girls are more likely to use “-sama” in Suiran? I haven’t noticed any boy calling Kaburagi and Enjou with “-sama”) – after all she doesn’t even think of them with ANY honorifics, lol.
I wonder if they will ever be on first name basis?

actually in older times and society (maybe 30-100 years ago) 7 years isn’t considering too much an age gap. many of them have around 10’s or more years of age difference when they married. what I would consider surprising was if they have around 50’s years of gap. but what would you say about the power of love.. I myself have no comment☺

I think it’s more because everyone assumes she’s kaburagi’s and he has a vicious jealous streak when a male so much as talks to a person he’s interested in. You’d need to be able to fight back against one of the most powerful families in Japan to survive talking to her from that pov.

Okay, I don’t get it. I looked up needle-felting and somehow, it’s just this incredibly feminine hobby. I don’t get why this is so out-of-line with Reika being an ojousama. If anything, it just seems to add to her wubbly soft Reikaness.

I also looked it up. Maybe it’s because needle felting involves poking the needle around some surface? it’s not a graceful act when you trying to thrust a needle to some wools in a surface (they even called it agitating the wools) while being careful to not get hurt.. though I would admit imagining Reika doing it with various expression would be considered cute😄

Hi! Yeah, university is starting again. Originally I planned to hardcore over the weekend but I played my first game of Civilisation V ever and before I knew it I was 30+ hours into the round and it was 3AM on Monday morning.
