Hi guys! Looking for experienced cleaners or type-setters to help with the Tashinami scanlations.

Please contribute: http://kenkyokenjitsu.wikia.com

Today I had two nuisances along on my trip to the Petit salon. This was supposed to be my sanctuary…

I ended up swinging the bags in both hands as I walked.

Seeing this, Enjou spoke up.

“That looks pretty heavy. I’ll help you carry it.”

Oh? Well in that case.

I handed him the largest one.

“Whoa. This is pretty heavy. What’s inside?”

“Some season-limited Christmas chocolates for the kids.”

Since I was told that Yukino-kun had gotten me a present, I thought about getting presents for him, Mao-chan and Yuuri-kun.

Then I thought about how bad I would feel for the other kids, so in the end I decided to prepare enough chocolate for all of them.

Food and consumables were great for casual presents.

“Huh. I didn’t realise that brand produced Christmas chocolat,” Kaburagi mused.

“It is an assorted set. Some of them are shaped like Christmas trees and the like,” I replied.

“You’re pretty knowledgeable about time-limited products, huh,” he said as he peered into Enjou’s bag from the side.

Also we weren’t close enough for him to know that about me. Oh, was it the peach marshmallow that I gave him to ward off evil?

When we arrived at the Petit salon we were immediately greeted by smiles.

“Reika-oneesan!”

“Gokigen’yoh, Yukino-kun. Gokigen’yoh to you as well, Mao-chan, Yuuri-kun.”

“Gokigen’yoh, Reika-oneesama!”

“Hello Reika… oneesan…”

Yuuri-kun was still as shy about calling me that as ever.

Mhm, mhm, he was a boy after all.

If it’s too hard for you, Yuuri-kun, you can just call me Reika-chan instead, you know?

Anyhow, nobody had any idea that Enjou and Kaburagi were coming. Given how standoffish they generally were, the kids were excited about the rare opportunity to meet them, and immediately crowded them.

Huh.

All this time I was the only visitor here. I’d been monopolising the popularity of being a visiting upperclassman and yet today all their hearts were taken away in an instant.

Even Mao-chan who was like a little sister to me was taking glances over at those two!

Arghhh! I really shouldn’t have brought them here!

“Reika-oneesan? What’s wrong. Come sit down?”

Aaah! Yukino-kun! You’re my only ally here!

I did as he suggested and took my seat on the sofa. Ah, Enjou-sama, please just give out the chocolates however you like.

“You know, there was actually something I wanted to give you, Reika-oneesan.”

Yukino-kun held out a red-ribboned box in his two small hands.

“Reika-oneesan, it’s a little early, but Merry Christmas!”

“Thank you, Yukino-kun!”

I opened the box.

Inside was a snow globe with a boy creating a snowman in front of a Christmas tree. So cute!

“Is this boy you, Yukino-kun?”

“Mhm!” he nodded with a smile.

Given how frail his body was, perhaps he’d never done this before in real life.

I think I remember being told that Enjou and Kaburagi would build snowmen in view of his window when he was sick.

I hoped that he could one day build one himself.

“Then it is my turn next. Merry Christmas, Yukino-kun.”

My present for him was a thick scarf to match his uniform. At the ends of it were little white snowflakes.

I wasn’t sure though, since he might not have much need for a muffler being driven to school and all.

He wrapped it around his neck.

“Wahh! It’s so warm~!” exclaimed Yukino-kun as he rubbed his face against the scarf fringe. “Is the snowflake because my name is Yukino(snowfield)?”

“It is. The snowflake is your symbol.”

“Thank you,” he beamed.

I specially ordered it, actually. I was glad that he liked it.

As for Mao-chan and Yuuri-kun, I got them matching lesson bags; tote bags large enough to carry things for both school and extracurricular lessons. Having matching things sure was nice for a couple~

I wanted to try something like that myself one day. Ah, not matching clothing though.

“Thank you, Reika-oneesama! I’ll take care of it. Also Yuuri-kun and I got you something too!”

The two of them had gotten me fluffy boots for indoor use. It was completely adorable with little ribboned bonbons attached!

“My! Thank you! I think I shall be using them quite a bit considering how bad I am with the cold.”

They were pink and would match my belly warmer perfectly. With this I was set for winter.

We relaxed for a while, before Enjou and Kaburagi came over having distributed the chocolates.

Mmn. Well done, you two.

You can keep the remaining chocolates as thanks for your hard work.

“Yukino, did Kisshouin-san give you that muffler? Thank you, Kisshouin-san.”

“My pleasure. I should be giving thanks instead for these cute presents I received. Thank you very much.”

That was when the other kids began to thank me for the chocolate, and I ended up surrounded by smiling children myself.

Nuhoho, the presents were super effective.

“I wish you could come to my Christmas party though, Reika-oneesama,” pouted Mao-chan.

“Mao. Reika… oneesan, also has her own plans, so you can’t be so selfish.”

“But…”

Uuu, I want to go too, Mao-chan!

Why did my pride have to get in the way back there! Reika, you idiot! What if I told her that I could come now…

“You’re coming too, right, Yukino? Thanks for looking after him,” Enjou smiled.

“Yes!” said Mao-chan as she blushed.

Mao-chan! Yuuri-kun is right next to you!

“By the way, Masaya’s mum said it was a shame you couldn’t come to her party, Kisshouin-san.”

“Yeah,” Kaburagi nodded without much care.

During my family’s party last month his mother had invited me, and then my parents told me a number of times to go, but I completely refused.

It was tiring having to keep up appearances. All those parties were like that.

My parents had stopped trying once the thing with my eyebrows happened though.

All it took was some fake tears and a “I cannot possibly show up like this!”

As a fellow woman, Okaasama could sympathise.

Life is all about turning misfortune into fortune.

“Will you be attending their party, Enjou-sama?”

“Nah, I’ve got some things to do that day.”

Oh? All right then.

Seeing Yukino-kun turn with a pout, Enjou smiled helplessly and patted him on the head.

“I’ll be right back,” he said.

So the little angel showed his brother these kinds of faces.

How cute~

“Will you be attending your family’s party then, Kaburagi-sama?”

“Pretty much. I didn’t last year, so this year my mother told me to at least make an appearance. I’m planning on heading right home though.”

“I see.”

Last year… Oh, you were on your journey, weren’t you.

Kaburagi seemed bored, because he got up and began gathering the children.

What was he planning.

“You said you were going to spend Christmas with your friends, Kisshouin-san?”

“Well, yes,” I told Enjou.

He was a sharp person. What if he realised I was spending time with my air friends…

What if he realised and then thought of me as some sad case…

I had to change the subject somehow…

“Yukino-kun, what are you hoping from Mr. Santa this year?”

“Eh?”

He looked startled. How come?

“As long as Mr. Santa chooses it, I’m okay with anything,” he replied with a smile.

What age did children stop believing in Santa Claus again?

*

Kaburagi made a coin disappear, and then made a tissue float, and then some other stuff to the applause of the children.

Party tricks?

*

And so Zui’ran entered its winter break.

I found the Tohsaka house.

    1. He’s been show to know when she lied or that he may know what she is thinking and just acting must of the time. It’s been a losing battle since they wore children…

        1. lol I kinda like “forever virgin village” better actually, has good alliteration. And also, from a purely defensive standpoint, nobody would ever think to attack it since it’s filled with wizards.

  1. Belly warmer? Isn’t that what old man use? Good for her to receive a gift to match her belly warmer. Lol.
Looks like our village head is going to keep with her lies. Don’t worry, if anything, onii-sama will bail her out. If its last resort, really really desperate, there’s always the tanuki/papa.

    1. Similarly, the pause between Reika and Oneechan aint just cause he’s a boy but a boy in love 😍 who wants to call the girl he has a crush on as oneechan?

    1. Replaces “Mr.Santa” with “Reika-san” and that last line will make a lot more sense ;) including why Yukino was surprised at the sudden question and his answer.

I’m expecting Enjo to NOT tell Reika he knows she’s free on Christmas, but instead ask that she become a ‘surprise Santa’ for Yukino.
It would let Reika save face (she’s too pure to realize the subtlety) and get Reika to show up for Yukino on Christmas.

    1. I can’t believe that he would spend so many skill points on party tricks. Wait, perhaps Bakaragi is related to Aqua? It would explain a few things, like that depression journey for one…….hmmm.

Well, and one potential little devil. Don’t think I didn’t notice your backtracking Yukino-kun.

    My favorite parts are:
    1. Reika treating the trouble duo like gophers.
    2. “Turning misfortune into fortune.”
    3. “Air friends.”

    1. Well, she has to keep up appearances, for the sake of her mother. She’s mentioned many times how the ojou-sama act she keeps is tiring, but she’ll do it for Okaa-sama!

    1. It’s Tohsaka Manor for sure. I know my Fate/Stay

Did you know they used a real city (Kobe) to model Fuyuki City and this is one of the places that has a real life counterpart? It’s called the Weathercock House and was a famous tourist sight long before Fate. Google it for pics.

  6. Bakaburagi Pov

How curious, I never really paid attention to Kisshouin, it was only through Shuuske that she became a person of interest, Shuuskes eyes somehow or another would end up following Kisshouin, I had to admit that she had a tendency to gain attention in amusing and interesting ways. Deer girl, smirking inwardly suppressing a chuckle remembering that moment of surprise and panic on her face as hungry deer would nudge her small frame, those curls dancing around her face like those amusing bobble head dolls Yurie had shown me one day, Kisshouins friends were in such a frenzy, helplessly calling out to her with fear and worry, she was in no danger, but seeing her composure wrecked by those deer sure was funny!

What was she carrying? peering into her bags, what was that? exclusive chocolates? hmmm, immediately I wanted to try one, it was for those children? she might give me some later, I had to admit I was feeling peckish, what was most interesting about her however, was the reaction Shuuske had whenever she was around, he seemed more lively, focused, and interested, I had never seen him react this way before, usually he had a fake smile plastered on his face, but with Kisshouin it was genuine. How curious..

    Yukino Pov

I was so excited today, Reika Onee san was coming! I had been been so restless, wondering when she would arrive, I had pulled out her gift so often that small creases had formed on the corners, Ah! Im so clumsy!
Mao chan looked at Yukino shaking her head.
“You know if you keep touching that it might tear open Yukino kun, then that prettily wrapped gift will get messy!”
Sometimes she could be such a nag! Yuuri kun you have such a bossy woman! but she was right, oh but Im so excited!

Ever since meeting Reika Onee san life had been so awesome! remembering that day clearly I smiled happily, I seemed to do that a lot when Reika Onee san was with me. I had come to the Petit salon feeling a little down, making friends was difficult because I had been sick all the time, it was lonely, other children could play so vigorously, while all I could do was watch, I hated being sick, always feeling left out while everyone else had fun. I was always catching up on school work, every day spent away from school due to sickness was a never ending session of study my Onii san would spend so much time helping me that I would feel guilty. I would hear him on the phone explaining to various people why he couldnt go met up with them, I felt so mad at myself, wouldnt Onii san grow to hate me? for such a long time I felt like a burden, an unwanted, unneeded burden.

One day, a beautiful person came, radiating warmth and gentleness, she was so lovely that I would stare at her dumbstruck, a.. a Princess had come to the salon! a beautiful Princess! I could see her with Mao and Yuuri, I wondered what I could do to get closer to her, reaching for the tea set I nervously approached, where did this courage come from? normally I would be as unobtrusive as possible but she was like a magnet drawing me in, I couldnt help but want to serve her, she greeted me so warmly that I felt a pleasant sensation in my heart, all the nervousness I felt disappeared, and so did some of the loneliness, because of her I became good friends with Mao and Yuuri, I had a desire to be stronger to change and become someone she would acknowledge.

Suddenly another memory surfaced making me cringe and shudder, get back down in the dark pits of shame! never rise again!! clawing at my face grimacing in remembrance of a beautiful Princess carrying her knight, NO begone foul memory!!! Mao looked at Yukino with a confused worried expression…

  7. I know this have nothing to do with this chapter, but have any of you wondered how whould a tea party between Reika, Anri (Evil God Average), Bakarina (Otoge Death flag) and Eliza (Akuyaku Tensei) would go?

    Liked by 5 people

    1. Eliza is one of those nobles who actually have to work to survive and is a busy workaholic type. Politics is a huge factor in her life, so the few friends she has are more like trusted retainers or allies. She has very little in common with girls her age. She’s very unlike Reika in that she doesn’t mourn her “Forever Alone” and has largely resigned herself to her isolation from the common man because of her status and family reputation.

Reika is a scaredy cat and would normally try to keep up her guard around types like Anri and Eliza. At least at first. She’d hit it off with Bakarina right away.

Anri wears a mask because she has to. Otherwise the other three would shit themselves in terror at the sight of her. She also curses everything she touches and has to wear rather unusual-looking black clothes by the nature of her cursed powers. If she sits in the chair for any length of time it’ll turn into some gothy-looking magic item fit for a demon king. It eats souls or something. This probably wouldn’t help her huge intimidation factor she’d have on Reika. Which is a shame, since Anri does actually want friends her age.

Bakarina doesn’t even try to hide the fact that gluttonous goofball who likes (literally) plowing fields and raising crops. Although she has a “villainous look” or a resting bitch face, this doesn’t actually seem to make people think she’s a villain, because she’s too dang goofy and freespirited to leave that impression. She’d hit it off with Reika right away over their love of food and because of their common desire to friend everybody in sight. Bakarina has no guard, so Reika would probably let hers down around her.

Unlike Reika, Bakarina is a harem master that transcends genders and never gains weight no matter how much she eats. Which would probably be a point of envy for Reika.

  8. You know, I forgot who Tohsaka was, so I started backtracking through the chapters to try and figure it out (since it’s not my first time forgetting a character orz)
Couldn’t find Tohsaka anywhere, so I opened FGO, scrolled through supports and saw Archer, and boom, revelation hit me harder than a tractor in a reincarnation story.

“Reika-chan”… wouldn’t that be harder for Yuuri? XDD

(shipping glasses-ON) Yukino’s and Reika’s Christmas exchange is super cute! XDXD But Reika’s lies might be seen through from older Enjou. Typical.

  13. Thank you for the chapter. Seems like you really have fun there. I feel a bit envious, you know..
Tohsaka? Do you mean that tsundere Tohsaka Rin?😂
also I want to know… if Reika is not going anywhere with anyone..then doesn’t it mean that she will spend her christmas alone? in that big house? in the cold winter night? 😓 Taketeru onii-sama please come to rescue!
anyway Yukino is really an angel to Reika.. and I think for him Reika is also an angel.. their relationship is really heartwarming😍🤗
Kaburagi though.. never guess this.. so he’s actually good with children? I think he will only shows warm attitude toward the person he’s familiar with.. like Yukino for example.. to think he’s actually show his recently earned magic trick to the kids..🤔

What age did children stop believing in Santa Claus again?

For me.. it’s actually in the christmas eve when I was just one year older than Yukino..
and it’s because I found nothing inside the socks I carefully prepared and hanged outside on my second floor veranda.. so this very thought of Reika has tugged on my heartstring when I remembered the futile efforts I did then😂😂😂😂😂
and if my memory was not wrong, my brother at that time actually said ” Heh.. you said there will be some new toys inside for us.. then how come it’s actually empty? Did Santa actually forget to visit our house in his night trip?”
    And I just
    “….”😂

      1. also.. just want to know.. is there any of you who ever believed in Santa back then? and to quote Reika again, at what time did you stopped believe in Santa? I mean Santa Claus off course..

  17. Was anyone else hoping that, ages ago, when Tomoe-sempai asked Reika if she would join the student council that she would say yes so that, if she were president of povoine and president of stuco, she could consolidate all power within the school under her own name?

    Liked by 1 person

    1. I’d like to see what a Machiavellian Reika would be like. Mostly because I have a perverse philosophical interest in that subject. Whether Reika or Kaburagi want the attention they get or not, they still are given power and then mostly choose to pretend that it’s not their problem.

The Pivoine makes all this noise about being “rulers” and the peony and stuff, but never actually have any responsibilities or administer anything. If they’re just going to do everything by dictatorial fiat, then the Pivoine and STUCO may as well be one-and-the-same. I suppose the fact that they’re so up their own asshole is the point of it all though.

      1. Like, who thought this system was a good idea? Yes, this special club of rich kids will have all the nominal authority, but we’ll still have the school rules enforced by a body of students that they won’t respect.

        Brilliant idea!

        Like

          1. I dunno what I was expecting. They’re supposed to be spoiled rich kids. It’s a minor miracle that Takateru, Enjou and Kaburagi turned out as well as they did. Since they’re sent to school with all these privileges but no actual responsibilities to counterbalance them AND are expected to inherit and run entire financial empires.

Probably what depresses me about the Kenkyo setting is that Reika 2 and these other well-adjusted rich kids are anomalies and not the norm. In Reika’s case especially. It’s not likely that Kaburagi’s fling with Wakaba nor Reika’s eccentricities will result in long term cultural changes or goods in their social circle. Happily ever after tends to ignore the “after” part, where some other monster gets made. We just get a deferment in Reika’s case.

“The arbitrary rule of a just and enlightened prince is always bad. His virtues are the most dangerous and the surest form of seduction: they lull a people imperceptibly into the habit of loving, respecting, and serving his successor, whoever that successor may be, no matter how wicked or stupid.” — Denis Diderot
