Hi guys! Looking for experienced cleaners or type-setters to help with the Tashinami scanlations.

I owed Wakaba-chan a lot now. I wanted to thank her somehow but couldn’t think of any good gift ideas.

Normally I’d be gifting something from the stores that my family were in with. Fruits from an expensive fruit store, or cookies from an exclusive confectionary that you needed connections to buy from. But it would be a bit rude to give cakes and stuff to a family of bakers, huh~ And it felt a bit like flaunting my money. Hmmmm…

After a lot of deliberation I ended up gifting her family some black tea and coffee that would go well with cakes. As for Wakaba-chan herself, I gave her some stationery with Zui’ran’s crest on it. Notepads and other consumables. After all, gifts that you could use up felt a lot less serious than durable gifts, didn’t they!

Since we were keeping that day between us, we still never really talked at school. After a while I started to wonder if I really had gone to her house. It couldn’t have been a daydream or something? I really did go, right?

There was only a little time left until the Athletics Carnival so every class was practising harder than ever. Everybody in my class was aiming for high scores as well, but I wonder how we would really go~

Everybody seemed to laugh as they trained, so it felt like we weren’t being serious enough. The boys were training for the cavalry battle too, by the way. I wonder if it was because of experience that running away from the start was a valid strategy to them. But considering the competition this year, wouldn’t they have a fair chance of winning as long as they tried harder?

Emperor was still sticking to his retirement.

According to the girls in his class a lot of people had asked him to participate but the Emperor had silenced them all with a wave of his hand.

He had retired, and there was no two ways about that.

Some people insisted anyhow, so the Emperor said this:

‘I’m retired so I won’t participating. But I’ll be happy to train you.’

Mmn. Thank goodness I wasn’t in his class. And more importantly, thank goodness I wasn’t born as a guy. Watching those poor boys train under him was like watching drills performed by the Spartan army… And it was scary the way their eyes shone.

One day, the Pivoine’s President butted heads with Fellow Stalking Horse.

Apparently it had all started when some Pivoine members demanded a couple of students yield some seats with a good view to them. Worse yet, those Pivoine members were only first years whilst the students sitting there were in Third Year. Fellow Stalking Horse had been of the opinion that the Pivoine kids should have respected their upperclassmen.

The President and her Pivoine supremacists on the other hand had taken exception to that. They came in and demanded to know who dared to question the Pivoine.

Right now, the air in the cafeteria was like a powder keg.

“To begin with, demanding that somebody give up a seat when they got there first is nothing short of tyranny. As if that wasn’t enough, they were upperclassmen as well. That would offend anyone’s sensibilities.”

“Upperclassmen or not, they were Pivoine. This is Zui’ran; common sense dictates that being a Pivoine takes precedence above all else. It matters not who they are. And even by your own admission, upperclassmen should be respected. Are you not violating decorum right this moment by arguing with me?”

“I’m the Student Coucil President. Protecting the students is the duty of the Student Council. You’re mistaken if you think the Pivoine can do whatever they want. You already have seats reserved for yourselves. And there were plenty of empty seats. But instead they decided that they wanted that seat and forced the person sitting there to vacate it. Don’t you think that’s being a little too outrageous? The Student Council won’t overlook selfish behaviour like that.”

“Outrageous!? Who do you think you are! How dare you speak to us like that!”

Anger crossed her beautiful features. But Fellow Stalking Horse was unperturbed.

“A member of the Pivoine is a student like any other. If they have done something wrong then I believe it falls to the Student Council to warn them.”

“Enough, you hateful upstart!”

Upstart!?

“At the end of the day, is your “Student Council” anything more than a collection of upstarts? The only reason you’ve been able to throw around the words ‘Student Council’ to have your way around here is because we have kindly allowed you to. For you to misunderstand, and even defy the Pivoine… Know some shame! The Pivoine is the symbol of Zui’ran! Comparing our positions with a gathering of glorified commoners like your Student Council is like comparing heaven and earth!”

“…!”

The President’s excessive words caused anger to flash across his face.

That was when the teachers rushed in to stop them in a panic. Fellow Stalking Horse allowed himself to be led away, whilst the other Student Council members followed behind in worry. The President and her supporters watched their retreating figures with baleful gazes.

I was frightened so I had hid amongst Serika-chan and the others early on. All I had done was watch how things developed but my stomach was still hurting and I had lost all appetite.

“This has turned into a huge deal, hasn’t it…”

“Mizusaki-kun should have just picked his words a little better. I hope he’s okay…”

As I considered my position as a Pivoine member, my hands couldn’t help but shake in the face of the inevitable conflict to come.

Scary… I wish I had a tougher heart. I might have looked like a Rococo Queen on the outside, but inside I was just a petty bourgeois.

Where had Kaburagi and Enjou been for all this?

I looked around and realised that Kaburagi had been sitting at the reserved seats, right in the middle of the fiasco. He had a fed-up look on his face.
When he noticed Wakaba-chan following after Fellow Stalking Horse in worry, he stared at her until she was gone.

*

*

The Principal personally cautioned Fellow Stalking Horse. Naturally he said nothing to the Pivoine.
I personally thought it was ridiculous too, but this was Zui’ran after all. Fellow Stalking Horse must have been incredibly frustrated, but there was nothing he could do about it.

Since the school administration had given the Student Council a warning over their attitude towards the Pivoine, the incident with the seats was tentatively settled. I could only pray that no further troubles arose though.

The day of the Athletics Carnival came.

Emperor and his Spartan Army were taking heads from the get-go. I could only imagine the hell they had gone through in training. Their enthusiasm was on another level. It didn’t even feel like an athletics carnival to them.

Well, the girls in their class were just cheering and squealing without a care in the world though.

Fellow Stalking Horse was doing just as well. Yep, yep. Exercise was the best for releasing your stress, wasn’t it. Do your best, Fellow Stalking Horse.

Before long it was time for my 100 metre sprint.

When I arrived at the gathering point, Wakaba-chan looked me in the eye and pumped her fist.

“I’m going to give it my all!”

Ahaha! Somebody was enthused. Wakaba-chan, we’re not even in the same group.

I smiled and was about to reply when some of my participating group members moved between us.

“Who are you acting so familiar with! Do you know who this person is!?”

They glared at her and pulled me away.

“Come, Reika-sama. That girl really needs to learn her place!”

And you even went out of your way to talk to me. I’m sorry, Wakaba-chan…

Still, I mean, it was a bit weird saying this about myself, but Wakaba-chan sure was fearless to talk that way to Kisshouin Reika of the Pivoine…

Considering they were basically there to give me a good experience, naturally I came first in my group.

“You were magnificent, Reika-sama!” clamoured my followers as they added to the experience with clapping.

Could it have gotten any more fixed. I wanted to bury myself in a hole…

Wakaba-chan only made 2nd place, unfortunately. She seemed to have fun though.

There was still a lot of the day to go.

  1. Honestly, does it annoy anyone else that Reika is such a pushover? I really annoys me. I wish she’d have kept her backbone she got from when she snapped at Kaburagi and Enjou in… Middle-School? around there.

    1. Nah, her cowardice is an established character trait. She’ll do things if pushed to it but would rather not. Personally, I find it both hilarious and endearing that she tries to avoid conflict but that conflict comes to her anyway.

      1. I also appreciate that she’s only ever pushed off the edge when someone completely wrongs her. Therefore, when we see the goddess Kali, it’s always going to be a smackdown! XDXDXD It makes those times more satisfying.

    2. I guess taht would be really hard because this is a social structure and her family is smacked right in the middle of it all. Also she still is in the mindset that her family is going to be ruined, so she can’t afford to go against the elites. We are talking about here about a society that values ‘giving face’ so she can’t. Besides its her personality. Her being a pushover is kind of the pt of the novel. Otherwise it won’t be this long lols

    3. To be fair back then she just snap at Kaburagi AND Enjou and then at the small clique of their fans. In case of Kaburagi and Enjou, to an extent Reika is sure as long as her case is solid she didn’t have to fear them retaliating and not to mention she does have Aika and Yurie on her back. And the other clique is a group of people she can suppress as long as she is willing to exercise the authority of her family.

In this case however, Pivoine as a whole *minus a few like Reika* is banding together to show off their superiority. Reika does have considerable clout in Pivoine, perhaps just next to Kaburagi & Enjou and the leader Youko, but! She can’t just make a stance to oppose the whole group like that without ruining her own social station in Pivoine, unless Kaburagi and Enjou make their stance on that side too.
In canon of Kimidoll universe, she had been in that spot. Which is why she has been very sneaky when helping Wakaba-chan.

Upholding justice like Stalking Horse did is good and all, but against a group with political clout like Pivoine what he did isn’t effective at all. He gotta have some backing. Pivoine had make their root in Suiran since forever after all.

ps: For some reason I keep mistyping Enjou as Enjoy… lately.
My head is getting weird when this blackhearted prince is concerned.

    4. Well reika is technically a timid(coward?) and gentle person that is good at acting like a queen or an empress when in need, and she is also a deteminator (albeit a light one) when it involves something that could put in danger her future and her family (ex. The kaburagi family and being mean to wakaba, being a b*&%h, etc.), like when she poisoned herself (with food) or when she brainwashed(traumatizated?) her father (for years) about dishonest things.

Outside of that she just enjoy her hobbys (things that involve food, plushies, knitting)

      1. I’d laugh and laugh if Kaburagi was secretly Ainz level of fakery.

“Awwww crap. They’ve nicknamed me Emperor. Why?! I didn’t do anything but get carried away with a game. Oh shit, here come some fangirls. I better act all aloof and cool and stare out a window.”

  2. I like it how her lackeys take care of her.It just shows that how much they love reika even though the process is wrong.
OH and THnx for the chapter

    1. Most don’t think it’s acceptable for Wakaba to do either. It’s just that Kaburagi is on friendly terms with Wakaba, and is probably not the type seen to be easily influenced by peers. He’s very willful, in other words. But Reika… Well she’s around her friends all the time, and is always polite at school. Plus! Reika wasn’t the one that approached (word-wise) Wakaba first. So her followers may have immediately assumed that she didn’t want to talk to Wakaba.

      Liked by 3 people

      1. Plus, it’s Reika. The personification of the flower on top of a mountain. A figurative mountain guarded by a virtual army of devotees. Anyone who wishes to publicly speak with her would have to go through them for approval first. ;D

    2. I kind of feel that Wakaba will end up with Kaburagi and Stalking horse will see Reika for what she is, “Defender of the weak against bullies,” which is his own life blood, and then he will fall in love with Reika. It will be a love fight for Reika between Enjou and Mizusaki, who are her two favorite characters from Kimidol. Anyways, that’s what I believe and have been watching for….

  8. Prediction; The Pivoine Pres is gonna do something to Wakaba when Kaburagi’s not around, and Reika will go full-on Kali. True, complete social smackdown about how her attitude sullies her family name, shames the Pivoine as a whole, the whole nine yards. Kaburagi hears the aftermath and how Reika defended Wakaba and cuts down the pres and makes a real friendship move to Reika, which ensures that Reika becomes the next Pivoine pres.

  9. Side-story where Pivoine member who took the seat actually has a crush on the upperclassman, but ended up getting misunderstood by the surroundings.
Pivoine – “Do you mind if I sit here too?”
Senpai – “Sure, I don’t mind sharing the view.”
Normal student – “That Pivoine person must be trying to force them out of the seat, lemme find someone from the student council.”
Student council person – “Hey, stop that thing that you are doing there!”
    Pivoine – “Wai–”
    Senpai – “Wha–”
Pivoine supremacist – “No, do what you want, we own all of the chairses.”
Pivoine, now sitting alone – “Cries.”

I want Reika to give Baka a good tongue lashing, really give him some home truths regarding Wakaba, she is suffering because she is intelligent and because hes shown some interest in her, hes that stupid that he cant see that this adds fuel to the fire, and so blind that he doesnt realize the kind of bullying she is suffering is due to his fans.

  12. Why do I get this strange foreboding feeling that some sort of misunderstanding is gonna start? Hopefull, itnwont become like Bakaburagi misunderstanding Reika-sama’s followers harsh words to Wakaba as something that Reika-sama herself has said. 😌 And I hope that Reika-sama won because she tried her best and not some sort of back dealing that happened.

Thank you soooo much for the chapter😊

    Like

    1. Even if some misunderstanding happens, it won’t do much to Reika. Even Bakaburagi just by himself can’t do shit to Reika. Sure, he could use his family power but his parents adore Reika. Could use Enjou’s help but Enjou has more brains than that. Could expose the shady dealings of Reika’s father but there none of begin with. Lastly, if he tried something in school; even that won’t do much. The boys have no business in following his orders, especially agnaist Reika no less. And as for the girls, they can’t exactly do much agnaist our Reika. Plus, Reika and Enjou pairing faction will take this chance to make their ship happen. Hell, it will be fun fact it actually happened.

      1. It’s probably important to note that Kaburagi largely didn’t give a crap about Reika’s existence and probably now has a slightly positive opinion of her. Kaburagi largely ignores things that don’t interest or bother him. Heck, even if it bothers him, he’s likely to just ignore it for as long as he possibly can. (That’s basically all his fangirls ever do.)

I think we need to give Kaburagi some credit. He’s aloof. That’s a double-edged sword. While it makes him callous, it also means that he also dislikes conflict or the usual posturing and jockeying for position. His initial reaction to Reika smacking down Tsuruhana was to regard her behavior with disgust, because he had bought into her act of being an ojou snob at the time. And at the same time, it’s what let’s him interact unpretentious with Wakaba. When he does a nice thing for her, it’s sincere and not out any desire to preserve his status or honor in the public eye.

        Like

    2. Perhaps there would come a day Reika being scolded for not being proactive if that scene happen (wakaba bullied in front of her) or more misunderstanding.

Maybe by Kaburagi: “grow some backbone you coward!”
Or Fellow Stalking Horse: “i was wrong about you! You are just the same as the others pivoine snobs!”

Well. I hope enjou could help her when that time came, considering he seems to be among the most considerate of reika knowing her real self. I much prefer rococo Reika appearance though. Kick asses with fantastic fan!

  13. I was thinking this might be the case but yeah, people are more mad at Wakaba being friendly to Reika than when she is friendly to Kaburagi.

I mean, I know that it is mostly because they can’t interfer much with Wabaka and Kabuagi without seeming like jealous bitches but still.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Reika cares what people think of her and fears politics.
Kaburagi doesn’t care what people think of him and ignores politics.
      That’s the key difference here.

Kaburagi genuinely doesn’t care what people think of him. So if he wants to interact with a commoner, that’s what he does. Remember that Reika’s followers go to insane lengths to carry water for her with regard to her costume antics and her performance in athletics festivals.

Part of the difference in personalities is that Kaburagi is so privileged that he’s never had to think about the social consequences, yet ironically, his fecklessness makes him authentic to his character. Ironically, it’s his privilege that lets him interact with Wakaba without regard to the social consequences.
