I continued to eat out with Ichinokura-san and Mao-chan each week.

Ichinokura-san really did seem to love food. The other day when I told him I felt like xiaolongbao, he replied,

“I know the best place. I’ll take you.”

It seems that he meant it because that weekend we ended up in Taiwan.

After leaving the airport we headed directly to the restaurant where they brought out xiaolongbao in those stacked bamboo steamer things, so we ate and ate.

Xiaolongbao is a type of steamed bun, traditionally filled with pork. One popular and common variant is pork with minced crab meat and roe.

At first I had wondered if there was any need to go to Taiwan just to eat xiaolongbao but by the end of it I was convinced. This was definitely the best xiaolongbao I had ever had. When I heard about red bean xiaolongbao I thought it was some mistake, but when I tried them they were delicious too.

Besides the xiaolongbao we also had steamed jiaozi and siu maai and stuff. By the end of it I was so full I could burst.

After that we went and bought some tea as a souvenir. Some Jasmine tea, as well as this other tea whose name caught my attention. Dongfang Meiren(Oriental Beauty). It was advertised as being good for weight loss, so I ended up buying it too. If possible I would definitely be onboard with burning away all that I ate today. I was so full that it felt like my stomach would burst.

I also bought a tea set with a cute drawing of a pigtailed girl. Drinking from this would probably be fun. It gave the right atmosphere.

There was apparently something popular with women around so I had a look and found a flower blooming in boiled water. It was flowering tea. I bought it without a thought. I could gift this to Mao-chan.

We never went to a single sightseeing location during our blitz tour. All we did was eat xiaolongbao and then come back from Taiwan. It showed me just how seriously Ichinokura-san took food.

But it was fun, even if all we did was eat. I wanted to go there again with somebody else, this time for longer. The problem was that I didn’t have somebody to invite… I’d rather not go alone.

When I got home I excitedly tried some of the flowering tea. But when I poured the hot water in, it turned out kind of gross. Like a bundle of caterpillar fungus… Sorry, Mao-chan.

I hated how it rained every day.

Feeling a bit gloomy, I opened the door to the salon to Kaburagi playing Chopin’s Raindrop.

The people in the salon were enchanted. It wasn’t often that he’d play the piano here but sometimes he’d feel like it and show us just how skilled he was in music.

Before I realised it I was drawn in as well. Just standing there and listening. I even unknowingly swayed my body to it.

When he was done, everybody broke into applause. Myself included, of course. He was really good. My mood seemed to have lifted as well. Maybe had I come earlier I could have heard the start too. What a shame.

“That was a wonderful performance, Kaburagi-sama!”

“Hearing you play ‘Raindrop’ makes me think that the rainy season might be a good thing.”

“Kaburagi-sama, could you not play us another song?”

The girls were already surrounding him.

I was just watching them blankly when Enjou came along.

“Since you’re already listening, how about a request, Kisshouin-san?” he said as he pushed me into the ring.

“Masaya, play a song that Kisshouin-san likes.”

“Eh!?”

I was startled. What on earth was he saying! I looked at him with wide eyes but he whispered,

“As thanks for Yukino.”

Hah?

Everybody was looking at me now. Kaburagi was looking at us suspiciously.

“We’re always in your care, Kisshouin-san. So any song, just name it.”

“Oi, who’s supposed to be playing this exactly?”

“Hm? Well you, Masaya,” smiled Enjou.

Everybody was already well aware that Kaburagi only played the piano when Kaburagi felt like it. He wouldn’t play just because you requested something. Wouldn’t this be shaming me if he said no!? Gahhhh!

“…What song?”

“Eh!?”

Kaburagi stared at me. Don’t tell me he was really going to play?!

I could already hear the girls sighing dreamily.

“Ummm…”

Oh no, oh no. I hadn’t thought about what song to ask for so my eyes were swimming and I was completely panicked. Aah, stop looking at me!
Fine! Something upbeat then!

“Then, Chopin’s Fantasie-Impromptu please.”

After saying it I realised it was a hard one so I was about to take it back, but Kaburagi looked up in thought for a moment and agreed.

“Got it.”

Eh!? Was he going to play without any rehearsal!? The Fantasie-Impromptu!?

Leaving me to my shock, Kaburagi stretched his fingers and then began to play with vigour.

Today I was having another outing with Mao-chan and Ichinokura-san. Although Yuuri-kun usually came, he wasn’t here today.

“Will Yuuri-kun not be joining us today?” I asked.

Mao-chan puffed her cheeks out.

“I had a fight with Yuuri.”

“A fight? But you seem to get along so well.”

“Yuuri said to me, ‘Did you get fatter recently?’ Fatter!? Don’t you think that was so mean? I don’t need Yuuri anymore!”

Oh my god. Yuuri-kun!?

“How could he say that to a girl. He’s the worst! Don’t you think so, Reika-oneesama?”

“I suppose.”

Mao-chan was in a really bad mood. After being told that, I could see why she was hurt and angry.

Ichinokura-san was listening as well, so he consoled her.

“You aren’t fat at all, Mao. You’re still growing so you shouldn’t worry about these things. Actually, it makes you even cuter.”

“…Reika-oneesama, did I get fat?”

“Of course not! You are adorable, Mao-chan.”

But now that I looked closer, she did seem a little rounder than usual…

“It’s not cute when girls are all skin and bones. You’re always cute, Mao, so you shouldn’t worry.”

It took some effort but we finally cheered her up and went for some delicious dessert.

Asking if somebody got fat recently… Nobody had actually said that to me yet, but was I still okay…?

But then Ichinokura-san said that plump girls were cuter than ones that were skin and bones… So I was still fine, right?

Mao-chan and I ate our desserts with smiles.

    Lol! Ichinokura definitely is slowly corrupting Reika and Mao and make them gain weight. And Kaburagi showing that he does take Reika’s opinion into consideration. Reika would freak out if she knew he respected her more than she expected. XD

        1. Yeah lol but not everyone can afford to go to Taiwan on a whim to eat xiaolongbao. Kinda suprised they went to Taiwan, xiaolongbao is a Shanghai dish.

          1. Din Tai Fung, is a world famous xiaolongbao place that has Michelin stars. It originated in Taiwan, and, having eaten at some of its branch locations and its Taiwan location, I can say that the Taiwan location is still superior.

  12. Ahhh… he really is a fat lover isnt he.. the enemy yet hero of all women! A man who doesnt mind if you get fat, sounds good till your 200kgs and need a scooter to get from A to B or have to break a wall to get you out of the room you havent left in months coz you cant fit thru the door or get off the bed.

    This is where Onii sama needs to come in and rescue Reika and Mao chan, otherwise they will both be called Pregnant women with triplets.

    Confirmed. Ichinokura’s goal is to fatten Reika-sama. Run Reika-sama, and exercise. Also, Ichinokura seems a serious food lover to go to Taiwan for xialobao.

  21. Just how absurdly rich do you have to be to fly to another country just to fill a hankering for dumplings? I’d pop an aneurysm if they did on a private jet too. So wasteful.

  23. Ichinokura being a fatty chaser is about a thousand times better than him being the secret manipulator the readers imagined him to be. It’s perfect for the life story of our favorite ditzy goofball of an ojousama.

  26. Uuiih. Taiwan. I can still clearly remember how on our way to South Korea, the plane had it an emergency landing in Taipei and how wecwere suck their for hours along with the gloomy weather😑

    And sheesh!! that guy! Ichinokura do you have any idea how much Reika-sana had suffered from being mistaken as pregnant!! At this rate she’ll be Tanuki the 2nd and she wouldn’t take it!! Tsk. Run away from him Reika-sama!! And lol. I bet another rumor will start with the whole “did you know Bakaburagi-sama played a song requested by Reika-sama” 😂

  29. Do you ever wonder if the writer is eating while writing these chapters? Because there is a concerning amount of food in a non-cooking series (like 1 new dish per chapter). Concerning, because all this food is making me hungry. ;p

    (shipping glasses-ON) I find it hilarious whenever Enjou uses Bakaburagi for his own purposes XDD

    Yuuri! WTF!? You NEVER say that to a girl! And Foodie-niisan needs to stop skinny-shaming!

  33. Enjou, what’s the meaning of getting your best friend to repay Reika with playing a song? In front of everyone? Where did you get an idea Reika would like listening Kaburagi playing piano, she had aversion for you two anyway… not a payback for sure. He is fanning the rumor… I HAVE NO FAITH in you, Enjou!

    I have a feeling in the future Yukino is going after Reika, and Enjou would get a cramp at the idea of Kaburagi&Yuri 2
    Because… he likes the girl, and Yukino isn’t anywhere as tough as Kaburagi. This is a recipe for disaster.

In my vivid imagination, Reika-sama turning around to look up at Enjou shock in her eyes the Enjou bowed down his head so that he can get to Reika-sama level to whisper to her… Kaburagi looking at them wondering if Enjou is into Reika-sama feeling troubled if he’ll be the only single one in the close future….. That’s what happens in my imagination…. I ship ReiNjo, I can right……… I wish Reika’s nii-sama will make appearance soon…. I miss Reika being a bro-con….. Love this novel lots….. Thanks translators…

    2. Enjou loves teasing Reika. It’s his thing. He’s pretty much always going to do it just to make Reika uncomfortable.

      If he is at all like me or the readers, he’ll probably enjoy the discrepancy between what it looks like and what it actually is. On the surface, it’s the princess being wooed by the princes. Below the surface, it’s Enjou just making Reika squirm because it’s funny for him.

      Well, it might also serve the functional purpose of making Kaburagi seem less scary to Reika. Because he tends to be the diplomatic sort that way. And if he’s also serious about wooing her personally, then that’s not a bad move since Kaburagi *is* his best friend and Reika will have to spend time around him without either of them snapping at each other sullenly.

      1. He’s also noticed that Reika seems extremely gun shy of Kaburagi. Also Kaburagi is a dick who doesn’t like talking to people. So having them interact in a safe and controlled environment is a good way of fixing the worst tendencies of both people. They can’t change their relationship if they get no experience of the other party and work on their natural inclinations as their go-to.

        1. I’m rereading Kenkyo Kenjitsu while I wait for updates. So looking back, this scene with Enjou/Kaburagi/Reika is actually super sweet. Enjou is confirmed to be watching Reika a lot (mostly for her endlessly amusing reactions, I believe). So when she was entranced by Kaburagi’s piano and clapped sincerely at the end, I think Enjou definitely saw that. So I think he sincerely suggested the song request as thanks for her care for his little brother because it was guaranteed to be something Reika would like. He may be a black-belly who enjoys teasing Reika for her amusing reactions, but he is generally kind and considerate of others. Also, (and this is the EnjouxReika shipper in me) I think Kaburagi either knows about and/or saw Enjou’s attraction to Reika and, as Enjou’s best friend, acquiesced to Reika’s song request. All-in-all, a very sweet scene. ^___^

  41. So first Reika sends Wakaba a letter telling the poor girl not to do any of the adorable, refreshing, bullying-inducing stuff that made her the original protagonist…then does them herself.

    Now Enjou has been wrangling her with his devious wingman skills and she wonders why. If you’re gonna steal flags, plot happens. Has she forgotten his purpose in the original story?

      1. Reika has no sense of restraint when it comes to food. Ichinokura didn’t really have to encourage her to eat more… she would have expanded anyway left to her own devices.

        Mao-chan? While she shouldn’t be encouraged to over consume (for there lies binge EDs), it doesn’t really seem like she is on her way to obesity either : /
